Ah, I hadn't thought of names on application data. Still, those third parties should only be contacted if the alleged debtor is truly out of reach. Doing otherwise is a known harassment technique.
It's also possible for a lender to underwrite some other brand or business which may have taken an application but could not itself service the account. Then when the lender or its collector calls, the consumer has forgotten or totally missed that relationship.

Sometimes non-account holders are people who were used as a reference when the account was opened. I know. I've received those calls.

In May 2009 "AnotherOne" asked in this thread, "I wonder what ever happened [to] the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act". A good question with the sad answer that nothing happened. FDCPA, a set of Federal rules for the debt industry, does not apply to original creditors. You would have to turn to your state laws or any similar protections. California, Texas, and Wisconsin have standout Fair Debt type laws.
Curious thing, in April 2010 "Cathy" reported calls from this number as coming from debt collector General Collection Services, or "GC Services" for short. GCS has a sweet deal with AmEx and maybe other name brand lenders, and is known for hostile and illegal practices, much like those reported here. As a third party, GCS must answer to the FDCPA, which changes the game considerably. You can challenge an agency's claims, restrict how it contacts you, and sue for abuses and violations at often low or no cost.
What I would suggest is that everyone coming here with a WF complaint should scrutinize related collections letters and calls, do some sleuthing for any hints of pointing back to GCS or any other third party. Other high volume collection agencies are known to spoof numbers and send documents which resemble those of original creditors, a devious and itself lawbreaking practice.
I notice a few comments here say non-account holders have been called, suggesting skip tracing, a practice more typical of an outside collector than in-house. Makes me go "hmmmm ....."

So, I thought all this time it was just me dealing with these people!!!! UGH!! I have done everything in my power to meet their demands and as ALWAYS.... they tell you that you are still behind!!! What gets me is last week this guy told me "My payment wasn't going to be excepted"!!! Hahaha!! I told him to mail it back to me and hung up on him!! It's amazing because even when you pay more...they still slapp you with a late charge. Unfortunately I have been dealing with this for the past 2yrs now and no matter how much more I pay EXTRA... they still do NOTHING to HELP!! This is such a relief knowing other people are dealing with the same CRAZY people at WELLS FARGO!!
Wells Fargo is calling my phone constantly too. If you have a cell phone you can save the number in your contacts. Name is whatever you want and set it up for No Ring. Works like a charm. All you'll hear is the alert that a call was missed.
Do not have a car fianced at all, so why call me? These poeple do not what they are dooing! They call and do not even leave a message!!!!
Wells Fargo is the worst finance company that I have ever dealt with! They call non stop every single day all hours of the day. We only owe them $700 to have our car paid off. Knowing that my husband was getting laid off we paid an extra payment for 3 months because we knew that we would not be able to pay it during those 3 months. All of this was suppose to have been noted on the account but of course they do not check that or care about anyone's situation what so ever. We continued to get late fees and the pay off amount was mysteriously shooting up every single month even more than what the late fee was. After my husband started working again we immediately paid 2 payments. There was still one behind and they have called non stop even knowing that it is getting paid off in October. I will never ever ever use this company again and will tell everyone that I know to think twice before using this company as they are money hungry thieves. Get a life Wells Fargo and hire some people that passed first grade!!!
I am so glad that I am not the only one this is happening to. My husband and I too have fallen behind on our car payments due to the economy and Wells Fargo has done nothing to help only harass. I hate having to push ignore on my phone 20 flippin times a day. I have called from my mothers phone, my work number and now they call and harass them. I am pretty sure that within the next month they are going to take my car away as they keep threatening to do so. I wish there was something that we could do to make them stop. They call me from like 30 different numbers a day and leave a message almost every time. I have never dealt with such rude people and I would never recommend wells fargo to anyone for any kind of a loan. I am at the point right now that I want them to take the dang car away so that I will be able to stop dealing with them. I have to file bankruptcy at this point anyways so go ahead wells fargo take it away. AHHHHHHHH.....

I have had calls from 8005650094 they are wells fargo auto through GC Services a collection company. My husband was laid off also I spoke with a very rude lady and I told her she was rude and she told me I should look in the mirror, she then hung up on me and I called back to get a manager and they directed me to her and she promptly hung up on me again.It is easy for someone to say just pay your bill and they wont keep calling obviously that person has not experience a financial nightmare of being laid off and choosing to feed your family and keep a roof over your head our being somewhat late on your payment.

Apparently this is Wells Fargo Auto Finance and I have no dealings with them at all. Have no idea how they got my number. I will try to block them along with an increasing number of such calls from other sources.

I also get calls from Wells Fargo and yes it is because I am behind which is my fault. I overpaid on a car when I baught it because I was nieve. I recently asked to refinance the loan so that I could lower my monthly payments. They informed me that because my car was $3,000.00 less than it was worth, it was not in their best interest to refinance for me. This all took place the day after on the front page of the US Today back in March I believe it was that not only did they accept a part of teh bailout money from us taxpayers but also declaired RECORD PROFITS for the first quarter of 2009. So let me get this straight, a bank, who just took bailout funds, announces it has made record profits and yet wont work with me to refinance $12,000 because it is $3,000 more than my car is worth. Wells Fargo can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. This is my third auto loan through them, the other two were paid off early, this is the first one that I have had troubles with and they still won't work with me.

Not surprised this is Wells Fargo Auto. I have not see a bunch of liars in my life. Had one person Bernice call and yell at me while they processed my payment. Had Bernice call and berate and yell at my wife about how we did not want to pay because they did not receive their payment while the payment was clearing my bank. My payments were never late and I had paid ahead until I had lost my job in December. But I now appear to be a deadbeat because I lost my job due to the banking industry. I had talked to someone from a friends phone and the would call that number 4-8 times a day besides my home number. I had used a family members phone and they keep calling it as well. After my father hung up on them because of them calling and not removing his number they sent me to a collection company so I had Wells Fargo calling up to 10 times a day and then a collection agency representing Wells Fargo which called 2-6 times a day. There number came up unavailable and left the number 866-477-8608
. I wonder what ever happened the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Banks apparently do not have to follow it. Everyone who had a problem with them should band together and sue under the Debt collection act. I have left a couple of complaints with the FTC but doubt that it has helped so far. Recommend others go to https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and file a complaint.

got tired of calls that werent for us. call phone company and got selective call rejection. solved that problem. they can call all they want. it wont ring on my phone. i told them they had wrong number but they kept calling so i solved the problem
Hi All. I really feel like after reading these posts that we need to do something about the way that Wells Fargo handles business (at least in the auto finance department - I have great customer service with their mortgage department & personal banking) Anyway. In the last year, my fiance and I hit a very rough patch with the purchase of a new home & then not too shortly after, we both were laid off. Unfortunately, our car payments got a little behind. We immediately called to let them know what happened and they said that they would be willing to work with us to make sure we stayed a float. I've never felt so insulted by a company in my life. They did NOTHING to help us except tell us that signing up for their insurance would lower our car payment - their car insurance is $150 MORE than we pay now. So we said no. Ever since then, we've been trying to make the payments as best as we can. In the last 6 months now, we've received over 364 calls from them. With every call, the person gets a little more rude. We set ourselves up on payment plans and was told the calls would stop...they didn't. Yesterday (4/12) was Easter Sunday - guess who called my home 9 times?! They started to call my fiances new place of employment so many times that they threatened to fire him. We told Wells Fargo to stop and the calls did not stop. They ended up having to change his phone # at work. I asked to speak with a manager after we made 3 months worth of payments in one month and the calls STILL continued... I was told the manager would do nothing to help me because we were "irresponsible and immature." From Day 1 - The first day I had lost my job - we made sure to call them to let them know our income was going to change. We tried our best to stay on top of our bills even with both of us laid off for a short time and stay in communication with WF Auto Finance and they still continue to use threats and call us liars. We were told we were 3 months behind, so we paid the 3 months as soon as we both got paid from our new jobs in one lump sum PLUS the payment for that month that was due... According to the calculations we've been keeping, we've paid MORE than we were supposed to...yet the calls still continue...every hour, every day...with threats & demands for money.
They keep NO RECORD of any past conversations - just a heads up. You could call 3 times in one day to this department and they would have no record. Make sure you keep track of every conversation you have with this company AND every payment you make. They are a horrible, horrible department.
These people are INSANE and do nothing but harrass!! They call before a payment is even due. They call and say payment has not been made even after a payment has been cashed by them. The calls come from over 50 different numbers that I have noticed. I do not answer any calls from them anymore. It doesn't matter what I say or prove anyways they think they are always right. Their left hand does NOT know what their right hands are doing. I am paying off this loan ASAP and I guarantee they will still call me after loan is paid in full just like they do when I am current with my loan and payment has been made. If they need to say something to me they can leave a darn message!! WELLS FARGO AUTO FINANCE CAN KISS MY BUTT!!!!

They called me at work this morning. I did not recognize the number so I let it go to VM. The message said "This is Judy, please call me at 800-565-0094. This is about a personal matter." I called the number and the recording indicated it was from Wells Fargo Auto Finance.
Yep they called and mention a name from a different company but it is indeed wells fargo. They called me at work.
