March 20: Just got a 5 pm call from "AT&T" (8oo 288 2020) in NC. Could hear the boiler room operation in the background. Did not get far with them before they clicked me. Called the real AT&T (our phone service provider) and reported the call. They didn't sound very interested, but took the info regarding my 800-288 2020 scam call. The AT&T woman who took my call seemed happy that my call was not a direct complaint about AT&T. You would think that AT&T could track down where the scam number came from and block it.
In my Florida working days, AT&T set-up a boiler room for about 100 phone callers - right next to where I worked. I would walk by at lunch time and see the young men and women in their large bull-pen area (filled with desks and people) all on phones - making scam calls. A few months later, at 8 am one Monday morning, all the workers were milling around in front of the calling center. The doors were locked and all the phones were gone. The scammers had skipped out on paying their monthly rent. The monthly paid workers were also out of luck. The scam folks also took all the telephones out and skipped town! That's what happens when you work for or sell to crooks! Too bad AT&T doesn't check out who they sell their services to. Actually, I don't think they want to know or care! This number, which says ATT on the caller ID, has been calling here for months, sometimes multiple times per day, they hang up on the answering machine. The one time I answered several weeks ago some woman with a foreign accent wanted to sell us DirectTV or U-Verse for $800 or something. I said we weren't interested but this number keeps calling. Like the constant ads they put in our monthly bills and separate flyers weren't enough advertising already.
I got multiple calls from the guy with the thick Indian accent (like I could tell Indian from Pakistani) who said he was from AT&T DirecTV. Caller ID said ATT. He wanted to know many TVs I had. I told him that if were from DirecTV he would know how many TVs I had. The guy is remarkably persistent. I think this is the same fellow that called from 800-531-5000
also. It's not the real AT&T because they check the Do Not Call registry.

AT&T has been my horible provider for 10 yrs. ANY time AT&T and I have made contact it's ALWAYS been 611 and never a text,call survey email or any 800 # nor any other # I don't get it this is blantin scams so horrible how these days the fun has been stolen/stopped from the benifits of having Internet now theirs only fear and paranoia when anything about the Internet is mentioned FUCK YOU AT&T you would think for being a leading provider your services would provide loyal customers with sum god damn protection from this shit theirs sum jobs to make right their MAKE A FILTER TO HELP WITH THE SPOOFING AND FRAUDULENT cruel attempts to benifit off the honest ,stupid,ignorent and unsuspecting! Someone is spoofing this number (which ID shows is AT&T) to commit fraud. They asked me to answer a short survey about customer satisfaction in return for a $20 credit to my wireless ATT account. I fell for it. I gave them my passcode and last four of SS#. Fortunately, as soon as I hung up, I felt something wasn't right. I immediately called AT&T Global Fraud department and reported it. The scammers had already added a new sign-in and authorized user to my ATT account. They had also gone to Best Buy and attempted to purchase equipment. So glad I caught this quickly and At&T shut them out of my account.
ATT&T keeps calling my non AT&T cell phone about once a month advising about phone bill payment ... someone must have entered my ph# as an alternate contact to their billing.
Robocall started off rattling off a phone number then stated that they could pay their bill online and set things up. Figure someone gave ATT the wrong contact number.
This is NOT AT&T! Anyone posting otherwise is either extremely gullible or part of the scheme and trying to deceive. It is a phishing expedition to confim your identity and verify your phone number. These are the tactics of skip tracers working for debt collectors. This particular scammer also spoofs CIDs to include the name ATT (not AT&T). They even spoof AT&Ts actual number 800-288-2020
) along with the CID name ATT, but they'll always leave out the '&' symbol which is how you know. They also use ATT 850-547-6128
. If you have recently received the notorious 'Unavailable 1' calls this is more evidence it's a debt collector. I believe these spoofed numbers and the related ATT scam is associated with Portfolio Recovery debt collectors. If you're receiving these calls and your vm includes your name you should change it to avoid confirming any personal information. Don't ever answer and block the calls.

Caller ID says AT&T, and since I changed service recently, it probably is. Automated callers (good ones) don't alert the operator until the line is answered and won't play a recording until a human voice speaks - so don't think it isn't legit just because nobody talks riight away, or it hangs up when your machine answers. Telemarketers can scam the id's though. It really is an AT&T number, but that doesn't mean it's them calling.

i recieve these calls all the time even after i change my phone number so i got a answering machine and where i record my message i just gave dead slience but my friends know that they can still leave a message and i will get it, these dum-ducks will just hang on machine till cut off or hang-up not knowing what to do...it has cut calls from what was 6-8 a day to 2-3 a day i also have a i.d. i can get them on...............................

name shows up on caller ID. I had called customer service with a billing question. When I was told a call would be made for a follow-up survey, I told them I was not interested. Supposedly, the survey assists them in employee training.

AT&T automated call notifying me about new online Account Manager account registered to the phone line.
This number called me and left a message, it was AT&T saying they would be doing an upgrade to my U-verse tonight between 10pm and 5am to improve my U-verse service. They even told me what to do if I had any problems. The number is really AT&T.

It is really simple, if you do not recognize the number, DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. If the caller has a legitimate reason for calling they will leave a message.
If I am at home and someone calls me that I do not know I will push the button to answer and then put the phone down and walk away. I just love wasting telemarketer’s time.

It's called phone spoofing. This is mostly done by collection agencies. They pretend to be someone else and getting enough info from you to create an account. Next thing you will get is a paper threat to pay something in full or go to court. Some of us have been dealing with these bottom feeders for months and years. We have programs that track and trace these numbers and then match them to the time and dates with the phone company. None have matched the actual caller. They also spoof themselves as your neighbors. Advice: take your bill or some proof to the phone provider and have them trace. If you owe money or have ever in the past, you can bet places like these will be faking themselves as someone else to get the data they need. ATT&T, minutes ago I made changes to my account, cancelled paper billing. They sent me 2 emails followed by this call. No answer.
Recorded message from AT&T to advise they made recent upgrades in my area and to thank me for being a customer.
This was AT&T calling to confirm the installairon of the U-Verse cable service.

I did and was put on hold forever then hung up and called the customer service number on my AT&T bill and talked to rep there and he said nothing had been changed it was probably a hoax.

I came here and saw the number was AT&T. Since I just had Privacy Manager enacted, I thought it would be a confirmation of this. But NO, the voice mail message left to me said that I requested my email account to be deleted and to call if I have not requested this. Sheesh. A change was made to our account (went from paper bill to email bill) and the call was to notify me of the change.
This is ATT calling back to verify an order placed -- it is a recording. They are asking for nothing but to verify that an order or action implemented by called telephone number was an authorized action. Not a bad call.
Work for ATT and its amazing the number of unauthorized actions are taken on a customer phone accounts. Usually no action is required by the person who is called unless the action was unauthorized.

It's just a confirmation call that AT&T sends to all of your numbers if you make a change on your account.
This is AT&T. You can call them and request Operator 3x to get to a customer service rep. Then ask them to place an order requesting they remove you from their solication list, but keep you on the list to notify you of account and security changes. I hope they stop. Takes 30-45 days for the order to activate.
I just received a call from this number and I think I've figured out that it was AT&T calling to get my business back. They pissed me off one too many times with their bills being inconsistant, so I switched to a cable phone. Hahahaha, they best stop calling, I'm on the "do not call list" and I'm not switching back.

I got the same call from AtandT trying to sell me something. I purchased a call blocking device for my phone that now blocks any 800,866,877 number. Phone quit ringing. Best 95 dollars I ever spent now I can block any number I don't want calling back.

This is a legitamate #. I just signed up for AT&T U-Verse services, & this is the ph# they gave me for Customer Service. They call me frequently.
AT&T. As others have said, it is generally an automated message. There seems to be a trigger that places a call anytime you make a change to your account. I have changed my account online a couple times and each time get a call for 'confirmation' afterwards.
CALLED THREE OE FOUR TIMES A DAY, DIDNOT ANSWER, IF THEY DONOT WANT ME TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE THEY SHOULDNOT CALL, THERE SHOULD BE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY TIMES THEY CALL AND HVE TO NOT CALL ANY MORE.
This is AT&T calling there customers,. to tell them that they have upgrade-it there DSL service for faster speed? HUM? $5 more is it worth it. There ok just check your phone bill? there invoice is like a 3D movie hehe!

I had to request a password change on my AT&T account today, so I'm assuming this was a follow up on that.
While I'm at it complaining... is anyone else frustrated at being forced to change phone service from AT&T to the "NEW" AT&T?? Doesn't make sense... new account number and everything which leave me with a credit on the old bill that no one seems to know how to transfer to the new one.
When I called the above ph#, I received an outgoing message that indicated they were "AT&T Customer Service". I have seen this ph# on my Caller ID many times.
Under the guidelines for the "Do Not Call" list that I am on, if you do business with a company, then the company is allowed to make calls to you to offer you new services.
They keep trying to get me to switch my IP to AT&T.

I believe this is an AT&T test call. I have had an ongoing problem with one of my phone lines and usually get a call from this number some time after I report it. There is never anyone there so it sounds like an automated call to test the line. When I call it back I get a recorded AT&T message.

I get these calls on my home phone which forwards to my cell phone. Very disturbing. As soon as I pick up, they hang up. I got 2 such calls today already.

I have been on the Do NOT Call List for some time, yet AT&T thinks they can ignore it. The keep calling from 800-288-2020 advertising their new residential telephone packages. I have told them to STOP calling me, but they ignore that also. I am chronically sick & disabled, and do NOT need all this extra stress!!!
Just dead air. Did make account changes with AT&T today, as has others. Perhaps AT&T should read this website to find out what is happening (or not happening) with thier so-called automated calling system.
