This is a fund raising wing of the Police Benevolent Association
 Nov 21st, 2007
i get calls from them all the time. i even called them back and silence. I am going to block the number. I am on the Do NOT call list too!
 Oct 17th, 2007
Call at least once per week. Not interested in solicitation from anyone, not even police.
 Oct 16th, 2007

here's where you can get off their list, supposedly.
 Oct 01st, 2007
All I could hear on the line was clicking. Finally, a woman said my husband's full name to which I replied that I wasn't him. She immediately hung up. "Southern States" showed up on Caller ID and since I own horses and that's the name of a feed company, I thought the call might be relevant. I'll know better next time.
 Sep 20th, 2007
They call everyday. It's always just a message, but can you say annoying. Called at 8:30 on a Saturday. It is such a pain. STOP CALLING ME!!!
 Sep 12th, 2007
I've gotten this call several times during the year. I gave a donation the FIRST time they called, but when they called back asking for more, I was very unhappy. I try to donate to good causes as often as my budget will allow, but I thought it was very rude for them to call again and want another donation! I probably will not donate to them ever again...I can go to MY TOWN'S police department and make a donation to the police if I choose next time!
 Aug 30th, 2007
These guys have got a pre-recorded message now. It's probably automated also. They've harassed the hell out of me. Sad thing is I turned them in to the FCC and got the "Oh Well" treatment. They call themselves the Southern Sheriffs Organization now.
 Aug 27th, 2007
The reason so little % of the money donated goes directly to officers is because the organization mainly provides services to its members, not money. The members pay money for the services. The PBA isn't a charity, just a non-profit that provides services and legal representation for officers.

Their fund raising department may be annoying, but they are definitely legit.
 Aug 22nd, 2007
called at 9:35am
no message
they have called before

 Jul 29th, 2007
I had a call from this number and I was a bit concerned after answering the phone. A male came on the line and stated that his company needed my help to help the state troopers office with children who are victims to violance in the community. I told them I don't do anything over the phone and if they would send me something in the mail. I did recieve a STATE TROOPERS DECAL and also an envelope to send in a donation. Now when I asked him to send me something he said he was going to put me through with another representative just to confirm I wanted him to send me something in the mail.. This is no lie..It was the same man trying to disquise his voice. This was actually last week and now I'm getting the calls again. How can we get them to stop?
 Jul 12th, 2007
My Fax cut them off.
Edward Dyer
 Jul 05th, 2007
Always hang-up when I answer. Gave up counting the calls.

 Jun 29th, 2007
do not call list does not apply to can be on that list and still be bothered your congressman tell him to work on better do not call list..its his damn job lol..

should'nt caller id say pbs and not southern states? yes it beats toll free unknown or unavailable but still deceiving.

if they are going to call me it should be with a human being that i could ask not to call anymore instead of making people angry so they have to hunt these companies down to get contact info.

i actually pay for this phone for friends and relatives to call me at.but it seems i get only 10-25 % of calls from those people and 75-90 % from telemarketers and charities and so forth

i should get a discount for low phone usage
 Jun 26th, 2007
I called them and dialed the president, and they took my name off the list. He was very kind on the phone.
 Jun 19th, 2007
I'm being bugged by this group, too. I also looked up the number..belongs to Southern States Pba in Stockbridge, GA. Strange thing is, when I answer they hang up. Tried to call them and get busy signal. So much for the "Do Not Call Registry". Going to see if I can contact the FCC.
 Jun 14th, 2007
Garo, you have the right idea. If Clark Howard can't handle this, nobody can!
Mike A
 Jun 12th, 2007
We need to get Clark Howard on this Org. and have them/their phone lines shut down.
 Jun 08th, 2007
Called; no message. Not the first time.
 Jun 05th, 2007

Dego Chaney
 May 30th, 2007
Called. Rang once or twice & when I answered they hung up. I called back and the call connected immediately but no sound on the other end at all.
 May 30th, 2007
Woke me up. No one on line when I answered just before the 3rd ring.
Thanks to all who supplied phone numbers and extentions. If I recieve any more calls, I'll be very happy to place some annoying calls in return. I'll also begin calling phone company every time I have nothing to do to ask them to include these so called non -profit's to the DO NOT CALL LIST.
 May 27th, 2007
Get calls from these guys at all hours. Doesn't do any good to tell them to stop calling. Found President's contact info:

Roberts, Jack
1900 Brannan Rd
McDonough, GA 30253-4310

A call to him, say around 7:30a.m. or at dinner time to ask why he takes 90% of funds and the police families only get 10%, might be appropriate.

 May 21st, 2007
Got a call this morning from 770-302-0137 Southern States. Thanks to this website, I knew not to answer it.
 May 21st, 2007
It is a for profit fund raiser for the police benevolence association. The Police get less than 10 cents for each dollar raised it is a rip off...

I always ask a charity when it calls what % of their fund raising actually goes to the charity or the end beneficiary.. you will get allot of hangups when you ask this question.

 May 19th, 2007
phone rings, I answer, their side goes dead.I called back, rings less than a half time and goes dead.Rediculous
 May 17th, 2007
If they won't talk and just keep calling they must be just trying to make everyone mad. Well, it worked. I will now do what I can to hassle them as they have done to me. I have recieved a huge amount of 'hang-up' calls from them. They certainly do not put forth a very good image.
 May 12th, 2007
I have told them repeatedly to take my name off their list, I am on the do not call list.
 May 10th, 2007
Called my house despite my number being on the "do not call list."
 May 10th, 2007

 May 01st, 2007
they have called a couple of times, just not sure who they are.
 Apr 20th, 2007
How do we stop them? They do not answer when I try to call - the number is busy or will not ring. I am called every day,
 Apr 17th, 2007
To have your name removed from their list you must do so from SSPBA's site.

SSPBA is exempt from the national "do not call list" because it is a registered non-profit organization and is not involved in the selling of any goods or services. SSPBA respects the privacy of all individuals and does not sell, rent or exchange its contributors list.

To have your name deleted from our call list.

The male caller was representing the police benevolent association and wanted money to help families who lost a family member as a police. I asked what percentage of money collected went to the cause and he did not know. I told him he should not have called and then I hung up. The last time they called me from the same association, a female on the other end of call told me that ten percent went to the cause. I told her what a rip off. Hung up.

They called around noon Monday. They asked for me and told my friend it was a courtesy call from the police dept. And they didn't want to leave a message and would call back. Well my car was stolen about a 1 1/2 years ago and I just thought they found it. Not like I need it now. But yeah, i'll get right on giving them some money. LOL
 Feb 26th, 2007
It irritates me that charities can get around the Do Not Call List
 Feb 20th, 2007
the calls are computer generated.
 Feb 16th, 2007
These people called today and once I answered they hung up! I called to request my number be removed but I was sent to a voice message box!
 Feb 15th, 2007

 Feb 15th, 2007
Southern States PBA is a sham. No money goes to actual law enforcement depts. Call these pests and tell them to taker your phone number of their harassment list.
 Feb 13th, 2007
UPDATE - Mr. Tim Reichert,Director of Communications and Public Affairs 1-800-233-3506 ext. 734 was most accommodating.

This is a legit non-profit. (Note: Per, the govt. list only applies to for profit commercial calls.)

Per Mr. Reichert, SSPBA does not contract out fund-raising campaigns; all calls are made in-house with local lists (he thinks they are updated approx. quarterly). He will advise the Fundraising staff of concerns such as "they fill up my answering maching, never leave a message, never respond when i pick up" and "...have asked them not to call, but they continue anyway."

To be put on their "No Call" List, call 1-800-233-3506. During Office Hours you SHOULD be able to follow the prompts to talk with someone. Even when the office is closed, you may enter ext. 526 for the Call Center Administrator, Dana Groover, and leave a message with the number you do not want called.

Future Problems: Please report date and time of call so they can resolve issues. If you DO talk with someone, record their name as well.

This organization DOES do a lot for familes of injured and deceased officers. I am convinced that Mr. Reichert will work hard to improve SSPBA's public image.

Our commitment to providing our members with updates and information on legislative issues and affording them a vehicle to voice their concerns both through us and to us displayed a need for increased communication resources. We have employed new technical software and services like the Capwiz Political System and the Convio viral marketing system to help us keep up with the needs of this association. Over the years we have endorsed a number of elected officials while making our political influence known. We have witnessed the growth and the birth of new leadership in established chapters throughout the Southern States.

The new Police Benevolent Foundation was established in late 2005 to aide in our efforts and to provide for the law enforcement community throughout the Southeast. Please take some time to surf through this site as well as all the other PBA division sites and get a feel for who we are and what we do.

We are here for you. We are “The Voice of Law Enforcement”

Jack L. Roberts

President - The Southern States Police Benevolent Association
 Feb 02nd, 2007
The Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Inc. is composed of more than 20,000 law enforcement officers employed by federal, state, county and municipal governments.
This professional association, funded by membership dues and citizen contributions, provides legal, disciplinary and other representation to officers who are members. PBA represents sworn law enforcement officers and support personnel by providing legal services and advocating changes to improve the quality of work life for people employed in all aspects of criminal justice.

The association prohibits its members from engaging in or condoning any strike by law enforcement officers. We do, however, represent our members through aggressive political action.

Over the years, The Southern States PBA and its divisions have undergone a number of changes. Like any successful organization, we continuously strive to increase our services to our membership. We want you to know that you are our priority. The issues that affect you affect us. And we are committed to making the law enforcement profession the best it can be. We are committed to making it a profession that is fair and amicable to all members.

They call periodically. Sometimes during the day, but lately before 8AM and after 5:30PM. Always stay on line long enough for the answering machine to pick up, but never leave message!

They called my house at 7:30AM and 8:40AM today(a Saturday). You've got to be kidding me.
 Jan 06th, 2007
I think they are considered a "non-profit" organization and are not covered under the "do not call list". I am registered on the list, and I still get this kind of call. All types of solitication calls should be covered but are not.
