The Microsoft Windows 'your computer is infected with viruses' scam. I've received eight calls from these people, probably in India. They're using a block of numbers from Pacific Telecom, which is a known scammer outfit, but they aren't very smart. All of the calls have different area codes and the last four numbers vary. But the prefix does not, and it's invalid: 555. The calls I received were 'from' 309.555-0119, 352.555-0122, 360.555-0123, 626.555-0147, 660.555-0150, 731.555-0157, 727.555-0157 and 832.555-0166. In addition, I got the same call from 810.673-8652. I wish I had a program that could trace the call back to the IP address where it originated.

The Microsoft Windows - your computer is infected - scam. The caller changes the area code and the last four digits, but not the prefix. I received eight calls within six hours with this prefix, which is bogus: 727.555-0157, 360.555-0123, 660.555-0150, 731.555-0157, 352.555-0122, 832.555-0166, and 626.555-0147. I wish there were a program you could run on your computer that would trace backwards through the phone line and determine the calling UID while you kept the 'computer expert from Windows' on the line long enough! We could make some progress against them.
