I got a collect call from a inmate name Carlos from this number. I hung up the phone because I do not know anyone who may be in jail or prison with the name Carlos. I tried calling the number back and it just continued to ring. I looked the number up on USPhonebook.com and the found the following info
"Myduyen Tran (713) 981-0098
Phone type, Carrier, Relatives, Associates, Full address
Relatives: Loi Cam, Bao Loi, Bruce Tran, Buu Tran, Christina Tran, Cuong Loi, Em Nguyen, Giang Tran, Jenny Tran"
Hope this helps. I will be blocking this number. I think it is someone playing on the phone.
I called the number back two times and it was busy then I called a third time and it rang. Which I find weird. If it’s an inmates collect call it should not ring or sound busy..even though I’ve had an inmate call me from this number many times before. Just plain weird.
Number is from a Sherif Holding Center/Jail in Castaic Lake, Ca.
It will be an inmate calling collect

My son is in mens central jail in Los Angeles but his calls are routed through this number in Texas. Not a scam.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS. I have gotten more than 15 calls from this number in the past two days. I know nobody in the Houston, Texas area and when the the automated voice message switched to who was calling, it was my ex-boyfriends voice and name. It gives you options to stop the calls & to pay for the call. They need your credit card information before the call proceeds, $.21 a minute which is not the normal price for collect calls from jail. It must be a scam, don't let it play into your emotions.

Who is this and where is it coming from I barely could hear but I heard press this # for this amount look who ever you are don't freaking play on my phone like that it worried me I thought someone I love and are care about is really in trouble.... I'm calling this in to the BBB....
We have received collect calls from this number 713-981-0098, From a Texas Prison facility, We know no one in or from Texas, I'll do some research and try my best to stop these annoying calls, Last one was early today (1:34 am) Long story short, Just ignore, don't input any numbers , don't give out any information details nor accept any collect charges, I have a strong suspicion that this company "Tel-Link" could be involved on this scam, after all that company is the one benefiting the most from this scam, Be alert and you will survive!

Got a call saying it was from an inmate, then the person said a name but you could not hear it clearly due to other people talking.. then it gave options to press 1 to view payment options or press 9 to stop receiving calls
I just answered the phone call, and sure enough, it was someone I know calling collect from jail. No scam.
I just received a call from this number with the voicemail of my son's telling me that his inmate? But he is in California

If anyone gets a call from this number it means someone is trying to reach you from inside a correctional facility. This number belongs to global tell link which is a third party billing agency thru the prisons in how each inmate calls out. All you have to do is call 800-483-8314
press 0 to have it removed or are funds . Whatever the case is.

I've gotten 4 calls from this number in the last 2 days. I've blocked the number on my cell, so the call can't go through, but I can see that this person keeps calling. It's an inmate in a men's prison in Texas. Yikes!!!

People in jail can buy a phone card so they can call out. It is the service for that. My son calls me from it.
In a course of 5 minutes I got 10 phone calls saying an inmate in North County Jail wanted me to accept a collect call. As other people have said on here voice muffled. I could here Professor..lol. It's annoying as hell. This is not the first time this has happened but this guy would not give up. I hit redial on my phone and it was busy. Someone here posted a number for Global Tel Link. I tried that; found it amusing that the bot spoke with a British accent. And the only options you are given are to talk to someone about billing. I think they were 4 options all having to do with money. I tried hitting 00000; and it said it was not valid option and call back again. I put myself on the do not call list years ago; I actually think it made it worse. I get more calls now then when I did not have my number on this list. 713 is in Houston. Someone here said that all calls from jail come from same number that just is not true.
1:47 pm 11/18/14, 11/17/14 unknown time, and another call a couple of days before . I don't answer the call, I do wish they would stop calling. Why is this # not blocked or taken out of service???

I received repeated collect phone calls from an inmate at the Theo Lacy Jail in Orange County, California through this phone number. But my cell phone company does not allow collect phone calls. Plus, the inmate muffled his recorded name - seemed suspicious to me. So, I googled the number 713-981-0098 and I found that this company handles inmate calls for many county jails.
But, I found that many inmates get bored and radomly call numbers hoping to either just beg you to add some money to their jail accounts, or help them by making a 3 way call (all on YOUR dime) or they pull several other scams involving telling you it's a family emergency and you have to call a specific sergeant or sheriff at a number beginning with *73 which forwards YOUR phone number to where ever they want.
Just use your common sense & be carefull!
This number has called me 11 times within th epast hour. If not illegal it should be
Its a call from someone in jail. Doesnt necessarily mean they are in texas its just the number for every inmate. My bf is in cali and when he calls this is the number that comes up

Voicemail message: "To block inmate calls..."
On Saturday, 4-20-13 at 5:54 PM (CT) I got a call from 713-981-0098 on my cell phone. The caller ID only said, "Houston, TX". I had my boyfriend answer the phone b/c I hate answering calls from numbers unknown to me. He immediately had a puzzled look on his face and explained that I had a call from an inmate at a female correctional institution. He said it was very difficult to understand the recorded message, but believes the inmate's last name was "Washington". I don't live in Texas and I know no one in that state. So I knew this was a mistake or a scam, and told him to hang up which he did. The next day, Sunday, 4-21-13 at 9:25 AM (CT), I got a phone call from "Unavailable". I answered it despite my better judgement. It was a recorded voice which stated, "You have a call from inmate, 'Global Tel Link', located at correctional institution, 'Global Tel Link'". That made no sense to me what so ever, but I continued to listen. The menu options included pressing "1" to stop calls from "this inmate", so I pressed "1". I wish I had done some research on this phone number and company first though. Some people on other sites have said that by pressing any number in their menu, they have continued to get phone calls from this company or correctional institution. It's nearly 1:00 PM, and I haven't gotten any other phone calls related to them. Hopefully I won't get anymore.

Need information on this person a.s.a.p
oh also...they can redial last number dialed. so if someone you know really is in jail you believe they're calling you back :/
It is from JAIL. My fiance is currently contacted.
Sometimes inmates get bored and don't have money on there phones so they randomly dial numbers scaring people into adding money to find out who they know is locked up...After the person adds the money the inmate is able to forward the calls to the phone of there choice using.
You can decipher whether or not its a loved one by the following
-MOST REAL CALLS THE JAIL NUMBER WILL SHOW UP. WHEN ITS A SCAM IT WILL COME UP UNKNOWN, WITHHELD, BLOCKED (again MOST of the time)
-IF iTS REAL YOU WILL HEAR THERE NAME CLEARLY...NOT MUFFLED, otherwise they must rerecord it. and also you will hear the jail name, not just you are receiving a call from such and such jail do you accept...THAT IS A SCAM
It keeps caling talking about Harris countryjail
call global tel link and have your number blocked 1-877-650-4249
23 August 2012 -- 1:19 and 1:20 AM -- Received two calls from this number. (Both went to voicemail). Caller ID said "global tel link". It was a collect call asking us to accept the charges. One of the call requests said it was from the "men's central jail".
I believe it's a call from my long lost niece whom I've been told was arrested on drug charges. She's 35 years old and should know better than to keep getting into trouble like this and she should definitely know that I'm not the one to be calling for her insane misfortunes.

Over 30 anonymous collect calls to my house every minute for hours starting at 2AM. There is a part of the recorded message where a prisoner is told to say their name. This is inserted into the outgoing message. Instead of saying their name, the caller said "family emergency". This is the first sign that the call is a scam.
These calls were an attempt at a scam I read about in a newspaper. I suggest you block all calls from this phone number.
CALL IS A SCAM Nov 12th, 2011
I missed the call and it left an automated voice message about accepting or denying a prisoner's call. I was not able to take my name off the caller list beacuse I missed the call. I want my number off the list.
Wright and Ruth: The call source does not maintain this site or this web page. ''Satisfied'' did a lot of footwork on the nature of these calls for everyone's benefit over a year ago. Of course, you're in too much of a hurry to comprehend what a mystery call site is for or to actually read prior entries which may help you. If you're smart, you'll study the problem and take action, not sit there and wait for someone else to ''please stop this'', which no one reading this page can do for you.

Hahaha, ur in jail and you have nothing better to do then scam ppl that are free!!! See you when you get out.. oh, thats never! :)
This is a true story that happened to me so hopefully this information can help prevent someone from being scammed!
If someone ended up in jail or prison they may be able to contact their friends and family through the Global Tel Link system or other similar relay service. When a phone outside the jail or prison is answered their is a recorded message which asks you to accept a collect call from whoever initiated the it is that is calling. For this purpose it is legitimate but as I explain below you will see how this system has been utilized for a scam.
The Scam is real and was attempted today on my business telephone line. I got a total of nine calls from the same number, 713-981-0098 from someone I do not know in a span of 10 minutes. No matter how much I would hang up they would just call back again. If you look up this number through Google you will see that many other people have been bothered by this same number. The number is part of a correctional institution telecommunication system. It is called "Global Tel Link" and their recorded information during the incoming call says you can block the call by pressing "7" and then dialing 877-650-4249
. I pressed "7" and then called the number after hanging up but unfortunately they were not able to take my call directly. I instead was forced to use their call back system. The recording said it can take up to two hours for them to have a representative return the call. Meanwhile the phone kept ringing from the same 713 number. At one point I answered and the recorded message said to press "0" to hear the fee schedule in place if I was to accept the collect charges. The recording said the cost is $3 for the first minute and .13 cents for additional minutes. I decided while I was waiting for a call back from "Global Tel Link" to accept the call to see what was so urgent. I figured for $3 it might be worth it if I could get them to stop calling.
I was told by the apparent unknown prison inmate that I needed to call Officer Miller regarding one of my family members who was in trouble. The inmate did not even know my name or the name of any family member who was in trouble. It was very hard to make out what he was saying as the telephone connection was not good and there was a lot of background noise. It was obvious that this was some sort of scam but I was not sure how it worked until I researched it a bit later. The inmate asked me to call *72 1-323-921-1506
to reach Officer Miller and to do it right away as he was waiting for my call. After hanging up I knew better than to do what he told me but instead called the number without the *72. Some lady answered who promptly hung up when she figured out that it wasn't the call she was expecting. Meanwhile my phone starting ringing again from the same 713 number so I would just hang up.
On the Global Tel Link web site http://www.gtl.net/ they have a warning:
GENERAL CONSUMER PROTECTION INFORMATION
Be wary of inmate calls that request you to dial *72 followed by a new ten-digit number. Completing this request will result in the forwarding of your telephone number to a number of the inmate´s choosing, and all calls to your true telephone number will be automatically forwarded to the new number without your knowledge. The only way to reverse the forwarding of calls to a new number is to dial *73.
See the below link which explains how the scam works including the money side of it which unfortunately Global Tel Link does not make any mention of: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/forward.asp
Here is the summary:
The scammer may instruct the victim to "Dial *72 and then 890-6789," a sequence which activates the call-forwarding feature for the victim's phone number and tells the phone company to forward all calls placed to 345-1234 to 890-6789 instead. The scammer can then instruct acquaintances all over the world to call him collect at 345-1234 (or to place third-party calls to anywhere in the world and bill them to 345-1234) Â the scammer can approve all these charges (because all calls placed to 345-1234 are being forwarded to his phone), but the owner of 345-1234 is the one on the hook for paying for them (because they were forwarded through his number). The forwarding will continue until the victim issues instructions to cancel it; if the victim doesn't receive many incoming calls, he may not even notice something is amiss until he receives his next phone bill and spots the unauthorized charges for hundreds (or thousands) of dollars.
(Of course, this scheme only works if the victim had previously signed up for the call-forwarding option with his phone service provider. And although *72 is the sequence most commonly used for call forwarding, some phone service providers may use different sequences.)
The best way to avoid falling victim to this scam is the obvious one: never activate your call forwarding feature at the request of someone you don't know. Only forward your calls when you want them to go somewhere else.
"Global Tel Link" did call me back and they did add my number to their block list. I did have to give them my name and verify my address which according to the operator they already had up on the screen. The only other thing they asked me for was a four digit password which would be required should I ever need to remove the block (Yeah Right!). I believe they are legitimate and did indeed block my number because all of the other calls stopped completely afterwards.
My recommendation to be sure your number is blocked from the "Global Tel Link" system which will avoid ever getting calls from prisoners is to call them and add your number to their block call list. They can be reached at 877-650-4249
This is a scam with inmates taking turns calling numbers collect. The money is placed into an account which they can access. Do not accept this number, block it. Receiving 2X calls a day for weeks.
im trying to get a hold of this prison so i can talk to the person thats callin me which is raymond i wanna get a adress so i can write him
Called me after 9 p.m. and I'm on the Do Not Call list as well. Was an automated message saying "This is a call from Global Tel Link - this call may be monitored or recorded", then they hung up.
It's a collect call from jail, they (David) give you a story about "your" family member beat up by the C.O. and want you to call to speak with someone who can help.... Scam ,David actually turns out to be Randell who wants to talk/argue with his Baby Mama ....eventually tells me it's a scam called "Flocking" to get you to foward their calls directly to who they want to speak too.
its from a jail
its a call forwarding service
like a payphone but it shows up as this number when they call you
I receive a call every sunday around 9:00, i dont answer but usually they call 2 times back to back.
Just for fun, if you are working or living in an environment that you could do this in, answer the phone whenever a suspected telemarketer is on the line. If you hear a real human voice and they start their shpeel, hold a gas charged air-horn to the phone & blast them for a second or two! You can get them from amazon.com for as little as $7.00 for the 1.4oz can or under $30.00 for the 8oz which will last a very long time if used in short bursts. Refill 8oz cans are about $16.00. Free Shipping often available on orders over $25.00!
Even if it's a recording, wait and see if a human takes over the call or if there is an option for them to start recording you, then blast them!

This is the number that shows up if someone is trying to call you from jail. It won't connect if you haven't pre-approved receiving the calls and pre-paid for them.
is not a freaking scam.. So whoever said that is the dumbest person on earth.
I got a phone call today from that umber from twin towers detention center in ali and after that message was given they said from 'name' the person says his name... N it was really him I know him for 5 years and recognize his voice anymore... That means someone you know is trying to get a hold of you
The "operator" said it was a collect call from some jail. It was 12:30 in the morning and we know no one in jail. Caution: Never accept this type of call and never dial (enter) any number either. I have heard of scams where people call "collect" and if you accept the call or enter a code, (to accept or deny the call), the caller can take control of your phone line and call anywhere for as long as wanted.
