It would be nice if the world worked that way, Ellen, but the problem is that informing them they are calling the wrong number does not stop the calls. They simply keep calling, no matter what. It is harassment.
I used to work for a collection agency. If you don't answer then the computer calls back at 2 hour intervals until you do. If you owe someone money then pay it. That is the best way to stop the calls and if it is a wrong number...how do they know unless you tell them. Remember, you didn't always "own" your phone number...it could've been someone elses. Nobody can hurt you over the phone...pick it up.
called at 9:03
said "hold on for an important message, this is not a solicitation."
then they hung up.
havent the foggiest.
An automatic dialer keeps calling me. When I answer, there is never anyone there. I called back and eventually got a human being who rudely demanded to know why I was calling them. I believe whoever owns this number is committing a crime. If anyone knows anything about these people, please let me know (email@example.com) so I can formally file charges against them. Since they are calling from another state, my lawyer tells me that they are committing a federal offense, but I must still be able to identify them.
I know the individuals who work there are not personally responsible, and I feel sorry for them since they are unable to even get a job flipping burgers at McDonalds, but still, couldn't they beg on the streets instead of accepting a job with these assholes?
Receiving numerous calls from this number. They only give first names.

I usually do not answer calls I dont know the number to. And we have a special way of getting calls to go right to a recording that states they have to leave their name or company name, which then will ring to us and give us their info, and we can either accept the call or deny the call. Well somehow it passed by that recording, and the woman who was forign asked for a Jeffery someone..I let her know she had the wrong number, and then asked, "You dont know him mam", Uhh, I just said you have the wrong number, I do not know a Jeffery..And she said OK thank you and hung up.
i have confirmed that this is the D.O.E. collecting on unpaid student loans

these people are rude ignorant people, they will call and call and will continue to hang up on you if they don't get the right person as in my house. I am going to visit them and harass them at their door on cherokee ave, in Alexandria, VA and see how they like that! They are a collection agency and can't get their info right because no account I have is even near a collection status.
called but didn't leave a msg.
This number keeps calling me. My cell phone is 'as you go'. How can I stop them??? Please let me know !!!
Random calls with this is not a telemarketing call message
Calling me daily now. Started 2 months ago. I called them back last month, they were looking for someone, not me. I told them not to call me anymore as it wasnt me. They said no prob. Now a month later the calls are starting again. I pick up and no answer? Guess its time to get the tape recorder out...lawsuit time. Easy $1k.
E: If this is still going on, then I would do a search for your own phone number. It sounds as if your number is attached to another person and everytime they update thier system it picks up your number.
I am getting really sick of this. I have called back and informed them they have the wrong number. I was promised it will stop but its still going for the past three months. Most of the time its just dead silence.
Mike: This is not an Insurance Co. If you read the other Comments.
Bill: Collection agencies are exempt from the "Do Not Call" Registry. So Reporting them does nothing.
The only way to get rid of these calls is call back and ask to speak to a Manager.
Rec'd a call this a.m. Didn't identify themselves. I just reported them to Do Not Call Registery. I don't owe anyone anything.
This one calls me almost every day, which makes me really mad. It's from some insurance company I think. How can I stop this?
NCC is a valid collection agency and complies with all the laws. Collection agencies do not show thier name on caller ID to protect you. If you are having a problem, return the call, explain the situation. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help.
Someone calling herself "Cindy Taylor" called from this number, looking for someone who does not live here, claiming it was "very important" that that person call her back -- but she didn't identify what company she's with, she used a telephone system that subverts Caller ID by blocking their name yet doesn't trigger my own "Anonymous Call Reject" filter, and failed to provide any actual specific information to either verify that she has an existing business connection with the person she's trying to reach, or that the matter is important. This cannot be a legitimate business, regardless of whether or not they're technically in compliance with current law.
A collection Rep who goes by that name Keisha Johnson called and she sound like she carry guns or something. I personally would never give her any of my personal information that she does not have on her computer moniter. As far as banking info etc. I mean she actually sound like a girl from the streets that was calling me to confront me about sleeping with her man or something. Regardless of how many unpaid bills that come through their office, professionlism is key. Noone wants to conduct business with a non-professional. I know that I owe on a hospital bill but I won't be paying with nationawide on the fact that I really don't trust the people that work for them. It should be called GhettoWide.
They are a collection agency. They were looking for someone else who used to have my number. I talked extensively to a manager who says unfortunately that person keeps giving out the number and they can't help that someone gives false info. I agree. They were very nice, I just called them back and told them wrong number and the calls stopped. It's that easy and it's not their fault.
"Private caller" who is actually Nationwide Credit Corp. http://www.nccva.com
They've been calling me for 4 months, asking for 4 different people, none of whom is me.
Here are their email addresses:
Called on my 11 y.o. daughter's cell phone, which she's only had for about a month. Pretty sure she hasn't racked up any unpaid bills.

These people call work and cell every other hour, all hours of the day. Credit collection company for a Virginia state tax bill from 12 years ago that I am fighting. Name of person calling is Mayor Delaney (at least that is what it sounds like).
