The Breast Cancer Prevention Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They are soliciting donations.

May be a good cause thought I have not vetted them as of yet. However, they are calling numbers logged with the “DO NOT CALL” registry in violation of the “Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007”, which became law in February 2008. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm; https://www.donotcall.gov/

Well, they actually seemed straight forward and the secretary of Washington says they spend 93% on services. http://www.sos.wa.gov/charities/search_detail.aspx?charity_id=22013

Of course, one could ask, if you can't afford a mammography, then what do you do if it shows positive? Hopefully there's some sort of follow up so that it's not just a death sentence. As a charity, 93% would be awesome.

I visited "BCPF" website (www.breastcancerpreventionfund.org), their financial statement shows that they collected 3.6 million dollars for 2009. They barely show documents that account for $650,000 of that money being spent on charity memogram services (don't take my word, in fact investigate yourself through their own website!) I don't see what happened to the rest 3 million dollars. I also noticed that many documents are on their own letterhead rather than receiving entity stationary (which always happens to be the same entity in Los Angeles, questionable?) I also noticed that they don't post their REAL street address in Washington, I don't trust entities that hide their whereabouts. (In fact even their only IRS document from 2004 also shows just a PO box).

Got a call today (11/20/2010) from caller ID "BCPF" (619-374-7701) @ 4pm California time. No voice from other end even after waiting for 10~15 seconds.

I think they will call even if your phone is on Do-Not-Call registry (mine is), apparently some non-profit org are exempt from that requirement. Annoying fools wasting people's time.

I wasnt home when the called for what seemed to be the 9th time in 5 days, so I got a beer sat down dialed....and to my surprise "BCPF" that appeared as their caller id name apparently stands for "Breast Cancer Prevention Fund"..
hmmm...sounds to good of an org. to be calling all day everyday...maybe "BCPF" really is short for "BE CAREFUL PEOPLE...FRAUD!!!"

Very rarely do you find a job that you have an employee whom is 100% satisfied with their position. It's even rarer to have someone who was "fired" leave on great terms or have anything positive to say about their ex-employer. It doesn't mean the cause isn't a great one and it doesn't mean anyone is performing "fraud" or "scamming" people. Slander can also lead to a lawsuit, it doesn't help your case that it is in writing.

This is a wonderful cause that helps save lives. The person that posted this comment on here was released from the position because she wasn’t successful in getting donations. It is understandable that she was upset about being let go but to slander a company that raises funds to pay for mammograms for uninsured women is very tacky.

The men and women that work in this call center do not make minimum wage. The company does not fire employees for no reason (it is typically due to attendance issues or not being successful in getting donations). The staffing service does not charge $18/hour for each employee. And finally the fundraisers do not lie and/or harass people. They work hard everyday to help save lives while trying to support themselves and their family.

Breast Cancer Prevention Fund is a non-profit in Everett, WA whose Executive Director is Jim Paton. BC Prevention Fund raised $3.8 Million in 2008 and made grants in 2008 to 5 nonprofits totaling $550,000. In 2008 BC Prevention Fund also paid $2.3 Million to Legacy Marketing for "outreach services". Where are the books and records of BC Prevention Fund? At 2401 Hewitt Ave in Everett, WA. What is the address of Legacy Telemarketing? 2401 Hewitt Ave, Everett WA. Oh, and who is "partial owner" of Legacy Telemarketing? Why, surprise, it's Jim Paton the Executive Director of Breast Cancer Prevention Fund! Don't believe me? The women who make the calls from this call center known as Legacy Telemarketing are almost all middle-aged and just barely making ends meet with this minimum wage job. This is by far one of the worst companies to work for because, as one other person has said, the supervisors are constantly breathing down these people's necks when their numbers are low and fire people for absolutely no reason almost every day, so the tension in this little building could be cut with a knife. If you don't make at least $60/hr you will get fired. Because Legacy works with a staffing agency called Smart Talent, they pay this company $18/hr for each employee. That means that every single person in the room is costing $18 an hour, with about 40 employees, making just the calling staff alone a loss of almost $7,000 a day, about $2 million a year. When you ask them on the phone how much goes to the cause, they will tell you it's 93%, but that is a lie. If you do some research online, their records for the past few years have not been released (www.bbb.org). I do believe that some of this money does go towards mobile mammograms and organizations of the like, because they have been around for 6 years and somewhere within that, money must be sent somewhere for them to avoid any major scandals. This does not excuse the fact that they lie to every single person that they call and wrench money out of innocent people's hands, calling you at all hours of the day and night, endlessly harassing you at your home. This is my own opinion, but telemarketing is not the way to go about collecting funds. I fully support the Breast Cancer 3-Day as millions of us do, but to be completely honest, a decent percentage of the people BCPF calls says, "sorry, but I already donate to the American Cancer Society" or "Susan G. Komen."
I have some news for you....
Those two companies are rumored within the company to be where almost all of our leads come from. All I know for sure is that we do BUY our calling lists from other companies, but I have never found solid evidence as to where those lists are from. I have solid reason to believe, especially because of how many people do say they already donate to these companies, that they are the ones selling out your information.
Regardless, if you receive a call from this number, your information has been bought. They have full access to your home phone number, first and last name, and mailing address. And regardless of what you say to them, they are going to resell your information to another company. So when they call, I strongly encourage you to answer and politely tell them, "please put me on your do not call list."

If you'd like to have an angry word with the company, please call 425-252-3001. You can ask them for yourselves where they claim this money goes to and see what answers they come up with. Either way I can tell you I have seen them opening envelopes in Everett, WA, that are addressed to Florida, Texas, and California. How did they get those envelopes back, and why aren't they in those states? You'll have to do some more research on that for yourself.
The address for Legacy Telemarketing is 2401 Hewitt Ave, Everett, Wa 98201. Regardless of what state you live in, they will tell you that's where the money goes to. That's a lie. It gets forwarded to that exact address, or their PO Box.

Hope this lengthy bit of information has helped you decide not to donate to the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund. They are clearly trying to hide something.

making calls is not the ideal way of raising money to save lives and if more people cared about others maybe this would not even need to be done. when you make a call and give the referral number for a free mammogram to a woman who has found a lump in her breast and is barely able to put food on the table let alone pay for a mammogram. hearing the graditude in her voice and the relief that there is help is enough to make getting yelled at by uncaring citizens worth. so sorry if saving a life is a bother to you're at HOME routine, but when its someone you know who needs help i WILL be there to help!!!!!!!

Called the number back and left a message for them not to call my number two weeks ago. They called again this evening and I waited for a minute or so for someone to come on the line and no one ever came on the line. I tried calling the number back again and tried to leave another message and the mailbox was full. I understand that non profits don't have to adhear to the DNC rules, but this is really getting on my nerves.

BBB says they did not respond to requests for information. This usually means it's a scam. Just having non-profit tax status doesn't make it a worthwhile charity.

we are also required to hang up on answering machines. Also, sometimes, when you get a call and nobody is there, it's because the computer is either delayed and we will answer in just a second, or there was a system failure.

I work for a call center and we are currently making calls for the BCPF. If you want the call center to stop calling you, DO NOT HANG UP....that only puts you on a list to get a call the next day. Just be nice and ask the person to put you on their "Do Not Call" list, or, if you don't want to be on the DNC list, and you just don't want a call for a while, let the rep know that you won't be able to donate, or you aren't interested...this will put you on a list to be called in the future, but not for a while. Also, being a call center rep, I get alot of calls that have frustrated and irritated people on the other end, and I just want everyone to know that I personally have absolutely NO WAY of knowing whether or not you are on the National Do Not Call list. I have no way of knowing that you just lost a family member, or that you've been out of work for months on end. If I did, TRUST ME, you wouldn't get a call. I also have no control on who is called, we are on a random computer dialing system. Also, The National Do Not Call registry doesn't keep non profit orgs from calling you. Just remember that when you get a call from the BCPF, I or whoever else called, is NOT TRYING TO BOTHER YOU...we are just trying to make minimum wage so we can feed our kids, keep our family in a home, and survive. We are good people with bosses that RIDE OUR ASS when our numbers are low, and it wouldn't hurt to just remember that we're probably just as broke and bummed out as you are, we just are doing the only thing we know how to get by, which is play the hand you were dealt the best you can. And if you want to know anything more about the BCPF just go to www.breastcancerpreventionfund.org

I just got a call from this number and it's an advertising agency trying to sell this phone number to businesses so they can bug the crap out of people. "Your call will be heard by 10,000 people each and every day," they say.

This is not any non-profit, it's a for profit encouraging even more home harrassment of people who want to be left the @##@#$ alone.

I didn't know where to enter this. The caller id showed "unknown name" and "unknown number". They've been calling for a couple of months. I finally picked up and they said they were from the "breast cancer research fund" or "breast cancer ? fund". For several months I've been getting these junk calls and couldn't figure out why. I have been on the no call list since it first started. In November 2007, I checked to see if I was on it and I was. However, 2 weeks ago (March 1, 2008) I checked it and guess what? I'm not on the list! I don't know how that happened. I put myself back on the list and hopefully it will stop by April.

They are a non-profit and thus not obligated to observe the DNC list. All you can really do is pick up the phone and ask them not to call again. Or ignore them.

"Immediate Press Release

The Breast Cancer Prevention Fund is currently conducting large-scale outreach programs in California,
Texas, and Washington. You may receive a telephone call from the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund requesting support to help pay for mammograms for uninsured women. Everyone who makes a contribution to the Breast Cancer Prevention Fund will receive a letter in the mail, along with a return envelope."
