Continuation of my previous message:

Forgot to mention ---- Sometimes it will be a deaf person calling you in response to an ad. Deaf people have money too want to buy things too, you know. Keep that in mind.

Just be wary of callers that mention western union or overpayment or that live outside of your city -- those are the scammers. If it's not going to be a normal/simple sale, be cautious.

IP-relay call. This service is supposed to be used by people that are deaf. However, a lot of overseas scammers use it. They get your number from ads (newspapers, craigslist, dating service, etc) and then try to scam by saying they are trapped in another country or by trying to buy something from you and then they scam you by getting you to send them money or they use stolen credit cards.

** OR ** it will be someone you know that is just trying to prank call you. Your "friends" or friends of your children or sometimes your own children will normally try to scare/threaten you or use vulgar and obscene language. You can get even by contacting cust. service and asking for information on filing a police report, etc.

UNLESS you know someone that is deaf/hard of hearing, it is a PRANK CALL/SCAM. IP operators can't answer questions or talk to you other than relaying what the other person is typing, against FCC rules. But you can ask for cust. service number (that is all they can do) and they can answer any questions. If you don't want to take the call or don't want to continue talking simply HANG UP, you don't even have to say anything, instead of waiting for the caller to hang up or say "bye". IP-relay has several servers/numbers throughout the U.S.

This is a LEGITIMATE service for the deaf that is abused by prank callers and scammers.

This is one of the phone numbers to a server used by Verizon IP Relay. Relay is a federally mandated system intended to facilitate communication between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who are hearing. The system is exploited by teenagers and other immature people to anonymously prank call their friends, enemies, et. It is also exploited by scammers mostly in W. Africa to contact small business and people who are selling things thru want ads, etc. The scammers try to pass fake checks, money orders, or Western Union payments and get "overpayments". Relay operators work under strict confidentiality. They HONESTLY have no information about the content of the call or who is calling. Please do not get hostile towards the relay operator. You may want to ask for the IP Relay Customer Service number and see what they can do to help you block IP Relay calls. If you do not want a relay call, simply hang up and continue hanging up when you receive them!

This number is associated with a scam. Caller uses a "Relay" service to contact people trying to sell things. The scam is that they get an email from you through the relay service. The relay service translates computer messages from caller. These originate overseas (outside U.S) and are like the Nigerian Bank Scheme that people get via the email. The scam here is that they will "buy" whatever you are selling so long as they can send you a check. Catch is the check is for way more than the purchase price, so they say that you should just send the excess back to them through Western Union. Don't fall for it.

Not even a valid phone nubmer showed up, 222-222-245 ?? Wanted to know if I had puppies for sale, No, I have a bird cage for sale. Scam is that he will send me a cashiers check that I cash and take what $$ I want then pay his "shipping company" the difference. Then the cashier check comes back fraudulent and you are out the $$ you paid to the shipping agent. These people also use tty relay operators for the hearing impaired for this scam, that nubmer is 612-547-0006.

In response to an ad for a bird cage I was selling, I received a call from a tty relay operator for the hearing impaired. After checking the phone #(612)547-0006 at www.whocalled.us there are over 100 other people that have received the same call requesting the same info and stated exactly the same questions worded the same, all have different names but ALL have yahoo email accounts. I received a suspiscious email from meyerd11@yahoo.com . This is nothing but a scam that is phishing for personal info to get people to cash a fraudulent cashiers check and wire $$ to a Western Union account for the "Shipping Agent". I will also be reporting this to local authorities.

asking for details regarding a home for sale (I am a Realtor)I emailed her the listing with info.Got an email back, calling me David, telling me she wants to buy the house for her son, then asking me for more info so she can send me a certified check. This morning I get an email from a Sarah Pierre of Deutch Bank, another scam deal. Possibly not related. I think these folks are getting our phone numbers off a free "For Sale" local website. I plan to alert my industry as well as the website management. A time waster!!

Had an ad for a puppy to sell in Amarillo and this person (Helen, Ron, Richard) are all aliases for the same person. The person used a relay or voice disguiser and we never really talked to a real person. They also used another telephone number: 612-524-0455. The culprit sent us two money orders for $850 for one puppy ($1700 total) and asked us to wire the money for shipping the puppy to California to their shipping agent. Local banks told us that the money orders were fraudulent. Big time scam and did call the FBI!!! Do not give this person or these people anything at all!!!

Looked up number this morning, read all post and find it odd that one post list a JamesLarson@yahoo.com possible related to this number, since on 1/1/08 at 11:31 pm I rec'd a call from 401-946-4545 with the caller id LARSON JAS, did not answer this either. A message from Relay, saying they sent me an email in reference to a Bulldog I wanted and to email me back. I had a posting on Craigslist looking for a dog and I am sure that is were they got my information from. But they claimed to have the dogs in Texas and would ship them to me after I Western Union $600 for the dog. I know it was a scam! I would never send money for a dog sight unseen!

Didn't give them a chance to say anything. We received a call a few nights ago from a 1-408-822-1645. It turned out to be a scam. This was the same thing. It started off the exact same way. It was a Relay Service that was attempting to relay a message from a deaf person, in response to an ad we placed, "Puppy For Sale". The best thing to do is just hang up and report the number. Visit the FBI's website and report it there.

This is one of the phone numbers to a server used by Verizon IP Relay. As other people have explained, Relay is a federally mandated, government regulated system intended to facilitate communication between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who are hearing. Relay operators work under strict confidentiality and are to NEVER EVER reveal critical information on calls. Years ago deaf people accessed the relay using a TTY, but nowadays relay companies have created IP Relay websites and even AIM buddies for the public to use on the internet. The system is exploited by teenagers and other immature people to anonymously prank call their friends. It is also exploited by scammers mostly in W. Africa to contact small business and people who are selling things thru want ads, etc. The scammers try to pass fake checks, money orders, or Western Union payments and get "overpayments." As I mentioned, relay operators work under strict confidentiality. They HONESTLY have no information about the content of the call or who is calling. Please do not get hostile towards the relay oprerator. If you do not want a relay call, simply hang up and continue hanging up when you receive them!

They called me twice in a row (I never pick up if I don't know who it is). The IP Relay operator left a message saying someone was interested in a puppy I was selling (I have an ad in the paper). But I'm skeptical as to how serious this person is if there's all this nonsense going on.

Yep.... a person sends me a bid request from my company web site. I gave him a price for a work bench. Without any questions about is size, capacity or color... I receive an e-mailed order for 15 each. I look at the order and it was filled with lots of incomplete information and a non-working phone number... but insists I ship the merchandise Immediately. I decide not to respond to the e-mail anymore. Then the next day, I get a phone call from 612-547-0006 with a relay person and asks why I didnt ship the order... How does he know I didnt ship the order? I relayed to hom I am investigating him and this person responded that no detective or FBI can find him

Got a call from a guy wanting to order $1400 worth of picture frames and have them shipped to Ghana. Gave a VALID credit card number and wanted us to wire transfer money to a shipping company they said could ship to Ghana cheaper. After a call to Mastercard, we learned the name on the card did not match the name of the supposed caller. Yahoo and FasterMail e-mail addresses were involved. Total scam.

I found out that someone using this number was able to change my wireless phone account passcode and make a bunch of third-party calls If someone of the opposite gender calls, the phone company won't allow changes. But if someone uses one of these relay services, and who knows is it's a man or woman, the phone company will allow it!!!!!

Got a call for my pups I put in the paper. Knowing that lot of people wrote about calls for their pets I was very carefull, mine however turned out to be good. We emailed and I found out she was from my hometown and seen them in the paper but was deaf. Wanting to be careful I said I only take cash...we actually met along with her husband and she bought the dog. we have a great relationship and I go to see her every once in awhile. Sometimes these calls are from real deaf people, and sometimes they're a scam, but for the poor deaf persons sake take the call and see whats up...be very careful about giving out personal info though, just in case. I have a seperate email addy for scammers or suspicous things that I use for sighning up for things and such, it works great. Those who call and ask you crazy questions are probably people you know trying to play a joke or some crazy person playing around. DONT TALK TO PEOPLE WHO MAKE SEXUAL COMMENTS, THEY DONT DESERVES TO USE THESE THINGS!!

I breed dogs and everytime I advertise in the paper I get a call from this number. Its always a different name, but the same scam. The guy wants me to cash his money order and give cash to his "shipping handler" who will pick up the dog and the shipping money on a specified date. The scam is that a few days afterward the money order will come back bad and I'll left hanging. This guy called my dad when he had puppies for sale too. Don't fall for it - its a scam. I'm sure that a lot of calls are legitimate - the hearing impaired need this to communicate; however, some people are obviously using the system in order to remain anonymous. Don't fall for the scam!

I want to add that I was called twice. The first time was around 3 p.m. yesterday and a guy had my name and asked me to verify that it was me. I asked who it was and he said something about relay and was updating a list that I had joined. I am familiar with the type of relay companies that are for TTD and people who are deaf or hard of hearing. When I asked who the company was, he said thank you and hung up. The phone number did appear on my display, but I shrugged it off and deleted it, and moved on with my day. The second call came at 3 in the morning, maybe 3:30 a.m. This is the one that spooked me. I was in the bathroom half asleep when the phone vibrated. This startled me. The display said "restricted" number, but it was the same background noise. It was a woman this time. I don't remember exactly what I asked her, but she said she was going to read me something like a telegram. See my earlier post about this call (I meant to say a computer, not my computer.) On an emergency and crime basis, my wireless phone company gave me the number of the earlier call. I plan to make a report to my local police today.

I received a call saying IP Relay service was trying to reach me. I think this is a service for people with hearing disabilities. I recently gave a talk at a conference about this subject, so I accepted the call. I think the woman was reading what someone else was writing on my computer. She read something like, "You better watch your back." The woman doing the reading laughed like she thought this was funny. I called an operator to see where the call was originating and was told Minnesota. I looked up the number on www.whocalled.us and saw more than 100 complaints from people about this being a free service people misuse to cheat other people or threaten them.

It was an operator with a company called IP relay. I guess people can use it when they cannot get to you online. The operator types a message and relays the message, then you tell them your message and they will type it back to the person who sent it to you. When I asked the operator to ask the party to identify themselves, they responded with "you're beautiful and I want you and your daughter" and then hung up, now that totally creeped me out.

Jerks woke me up. At first the male voice kept rambling on about "do you know this? that?" so i told him not to tell me what to do and hung up. He calls back and in so many words tells me a deaf person is calling me using the IP relay service. I dont know any deaf people. I asked repeatedly "WHO" was calling me, and he repeated in a monotone voice, "Do you know how to use IP Relay." So I yelled at him and told him who the F is calling me. He said I would have to ask the perosn calling. So I told him to ask them. GO AHEAD... Ok, whos calling me? The perosn said I was calling me. Thats right, (JoeBloe) dont hang up, Its (JoeBloe) calling you. So I said, F you to operator and hung up. I reported this number to the FTC at www.ftc.gov

Received call at 1:17 a.m. Unknown woman on the phone calling about something called "IP Relay." I asked who she was she wouldnt respond to the answer. I asked why I am receiving the call, she said she is just responding to who ever is calling me. I asked who was trying to call me, she said a that is what she is trying to find out. She told me to say the words "Go Ahead" when asked "Are you ready." I did, then after a few more minutes i was frustrated more and asked if she was still on the line. I did that and she said she will respond back to me whatever the person calling was typing. They did not respond. She said someone was trying to call me from a computer was told me to hold on to find out more. She said to say "Go Ahead" if i wanted to respond to find out more. i did and waited and got frastred. after being on the phone for 20 minutes total, I hung up not trusting the person who wouldnt give me more info about why she is calling and only asking that we are to stay on hold. whenever i try calling, i get a busy signal or it says "all circuts are busy. please try your call again later. announcement 8 switch 2 1 dash 8"

This is a number called IP relay, someone uses it when they cannot get to you online. They type a message and the operator relays the message, then you tell her/him your messages and she will type it back to the person who sent it to you. My boyfriend works out of town and uses it when he needs to get me to the computer. Once I am at the computer we end the conversation on the phone and start communicating online. I hope this helps those that are not familiar with it.

I got a call from this number. The operator said a person typing on a computer was on the other end of the phone. She would read what he typed and then I could respond and she would type what I said. He wanted to know about some puppies I have for sale, and preferred to communicate through email. I emailed him, and he said he lived in Florida and wanted to buy the puppy for his son's birthday. I live on the other side of the country and asked how he found out about the puppies. He said, "the Newspaper." He said he would send me a cashier's check and then have his service pick up the dog so I didn't need to worry about shipping, plus he would pay me extra for keeping the dog for him. I have a really big feeling this is a scam. He grammar and spelling were awful, which, after reading others' responses, makes me think he may not be American.

Got two calls today. The first one with a male operator, I refused to say "go ahead" and hung up. They called right back with a woman lab reader 6681 and she explained what IP Relay is. I took the call and she said "John Wilson" was wanting to know if I carried a particular item in stock. When I acknowledged that I did, the lab reader typed them the message, then said they had hung up. I think this is a scam.

I received a phone call from this number on September 4th at 11:40 pm, and the person on the other end knew enough information about me to make me think they were a friend from high school pulling a prank. I was a little disconcerted when none of my friends confessed, but didn't think much of it until I got an instant message last night. Just like in the phone call, the person kept calling me "sexy" and "babe" and asked me my exact height, weight, and bra size. I refused to answer, at which point they signed off.

I'm very creeped out by this. WHO THE HELL IS BEHIND THIS?

I received a call from an add that I answered in the local newspaper. They wanted me to okay for an email message. I was a bit confused and said okay.

Then this person said that I could make money at home printing off checks. But I had to buy the printable checks and a checking program at Office Max.

I think it sounds pretty fishy and if a company wants you to work at home and print off checks etc., they should supply you with the items. Not have you spent up to $100 to buy it.

Identity Theft is the #1 crime of the 21st century. This SCAM seeks to collect personal information from those advertising items for sale, etc. that have their contact info. published on the internet. The person(s) on the other end of the call using IP relay is attempting to PHISH your personal info. for one of any number of illegitimate reasons, which may include, but not be limited to, the following:

> Perpetrate fraud using your identity.

> Selling your personal info. to other scumbags for profit.

> To generate revenue for terrorist related activities.

etc., etc., etc.

BEWARE...YOU WILL BE VICTIMIZED!!

This is a relay for deaf persons to contact cell numbers. I received a call from this number and the name and message were valid. I don't think they are pranks, however, could be wrong numbers for those who think it may be.

I received a call at 5:45 in the morning. I answered and a guy said "This call is on Automatic Relay". He said that he wouldn't tell me who was calling until I accepted the call. I told him that someone had better be on fire if they were calling me that early in the morning and I wouldn't take it. I could hear other call center workers in the background. I immediately hung up.

This person called for puppies I had for sale. It was relay for the deaf and she asked that I email pics of the pups. She used the name Carolyn Grey and the email carogrey55@yahoo.com. She said she lived in New York and had a personal shipper that would take care of it. I would receive a money order and give the extra to the personal shipper. I knew it was a scam as soon as I heard that. Who buys a puppy from Texas when they live in NY? Ridiculous.

I emailed back and forth with a man named James Smith a.k.a James Walker, William Richardson, Stephen Kiner. He sent me fake money orders ups express mail. Luckly, I was suspcious of him. I had the bank check them out and sure enough they we fake. I then received a call at 12:20 am and today he called my husband 2 times. Asking if I had puppies for sale. Beware of this scam. Never accept money orders. He wanted to send me money to pay for the Agent to fly and pick the puppy up. I was suppose to wire the money to Stephen Kiner. Then he would pick the puppy up.
The puppy is still in good hands and not going anywhere. Be careful people. I am a trusting person and always look for good in people. Well that is the kind of people the get scammed.

This is a service for the blind or antisocial to receive instant messages by telephone. Someone AIMs "IPRelay" and an operator calls the number and reads the message for you. It's just an innocent service.

This service is obviously being abused, and Verizon should definitely have some regulations to prevent this from happening. I received a call at 11pm last night from someone who knew my name and where I live making all kinds of sexual comments. It was not funny, it made me extremely uncomfortable and scared. I will not accept calls from this service ever again, so I'm sorry to all the deaf people out there who are really using this service to communicate. These issues of abuse must be resolved with Verizon to prevent a good service from getting an irreparable reputation.

I found this call extremely wierd. It was a guy claiming to be a verizon operator with a relay call. I was sleeping when he called at midnight. He asked if I knew how to deal with relay calls and I said no. He then gave me directions and I hung up. Very suspicious.

This person called me last night at a concert to tell me they liked me so I'm pretty sure the number is as the caller ID tells a Verizon IP relay. What I want to know is how you do it and if you can track down the number or address that sent the call.

I listed some dogs in the newspaper in Arizona. Received about 3 different calls saying they were an IP operator, then I received 3 different emails from 3 different accounts. All claiming to be different people and claiming all had sent a shipping agent plus some money to hold the merchandise. Placed another ad with a different telephone number:6125470006. Probably same person. Be careful do not give personal information, its a scam. The emails they were using are :kimoore01@yahoo.com, susanability@yahoo.com, do not accept calls from this number. The area codes indicated the call was placed from a telephone bought in Minnesota, one the e-mailers claimed to be from New Jersey.
