I am a current employee at pionneer. And looking thru the first page of the comments I see a lot of people angery about no messages being left. That is because we are legaly allowed to call one number 4 times a day. If we do call you and you are not the person that we are looking for please kindly say that we have the wrong number and that you don't know who that person it. A good 95 percent of the time we will not call you back unless we have reason to belive thaat the info you have given us is wrong. If we say you were used as a reference in our office that means our brws used you in the event that we lost contact with them and we will ask for information. I.e. demographic info and how to get a message to whom ever. I also seen a lot of peple complaning that we call people at work. I personally hae calling people at work but if we havve not references and you don't pick up your home phone well ill call the work phone. If you do not wish to recive phone calls anylonger and you are not the person we are asking to speak with yo do just need to tell us not to call any more, same with a place of employement per FDCPA we need to abide by that. You also DO need to send a written dnc letter or with in 5 business days we call again. And as for the comments about us calling 15 times a dy one one number our dialer system showes how many times a phone number has been called and we could get fired for doing so. So if you are the person we are tryinh to reach, don't dodge us that makes EVERYONES life harder, yours, mine, references, reletives, neighbores ect. Even if you have no income there are programs out there for everyone. We are here to help you get out of defult so no involentary actioons take place. Expecally when it comes to tax time because hey, everyone loves to see a good hunk of change. Thank you.

I think that they are legit but there practices are UNPROFESSIONAL. I work at the switchboard of a company and one guy from PCR calls at least 10-15 times a day for one of your employees. I connect him to the person he is looking for but when she doesnt answer he calls back to the switchboard and gets an attitude with me. He has asked to speak with her supervisor which is unprofessional especially when you are getting the direct DIAL NUMBER to the persons phone. There is no need to attempt to contact ANYONE else in the company. Noone has denied them access or the number to the debtor. So why are you being a BITCH to the switchboard operator. After him being an azz to me I went on the internet to see the company he was calling from. Getting an attitude with someone else who has been professional to you will not get you that person any faster but you slapped with a harrassment lawsuit from the company you MORON!!!!

"Imply that failure to pay the debt could result in arrest, imprisonment, or garnishment of wages"
per FDCPA

obviously the first part is right, but i owed this company money, for my student loans.
i refused to pay as i am a single mother and can not afford their "minimum" payments
then a month later they garnished my paycheck, now i have to pay out of my check and pay ontop of the garnishment for 9 months to get my garnishment to stop

from what i understand, this company runs your social security number and find out where you are working, after that point, they can garnish your wages. personally around 15% of mine
truthfully i should have just paid in the first place, then i wouldnt have to deal with this
shouldve paid

BTW Miss Thang, if you can't give out any info about someone to the wrong person, how can you read off a list of people with the same last name in my state that owe you money? By giving me that information aren't you in violation of that policy?

I've been getting hang up calls from here for months, I owe no taxes and have no student loans, same goes for my wife. When I reached a human here they asked me about multiple names with the same last name as mine, none of them related. I was transferred to 4 different departments and each one could find no reason they would be calling me. 1 person did state that they do call people with the same last names in the state's phonebooks. I am on the do not call registry and mentioned that, they said that they don't have to abide by that since they are not soliciting. I didn't believe that was correct as they are calling random people trying to locate someone. anyone know if its legal for them to keep bothering me looking for a Juan, or Timothy or Katy that lives in my state and shares a last name with me? If it is I pity those with a last name like Smith or Jones! I spent about 30 minutes on the line with these guys, 3 guys and a girl, 2 of the guys were very rude and one started to hang up on me for wanting some idea of what the calls were about. If this is how a professional is supposed to work I would hate to see what the bad ones are like!

Hello, i am a collector who works for PCR, if my abreviations are a little off through out this blog forgive me, when i type at work we use lots of abrev. ok, this is what i need to vent, we as collectors do not always like our jobs, especially being screamed at cussed at and hung up on, but we do have a job to do and we do get paid to do it. when calling you and asking to verify the last 4 of ur ssn, all you have to do is say yes or no, we by law cannot release any of our clients info to a wrong party and that is how we verify we are talking to the right person, as far as calling wrong numbers, we do apologize, at one point the number you owned was somehow connected to the person whom owes us money. we are collecting for california student aid and we take our job seriously, we know the law, what we can ask what we cant, we are monitored everyday by people that know the law and whether what we are asking is legal or not. i have wittnessed people get fired for using the wrong methods and going beyond what we are trained to do. all i ask is if its a wrong number, let us know nicely, ask us to take your number out and to not call it again, we will. also if you do owe the money get into our rehabilitaion program, google it, its a great program which restores ur credit, and also, when it comes tax season and your taxes are taken dont call me crying, i dont feel bad for those who know that had a debt and refused to take care of it, the irs has no remorse either. pick up, listen to what we have to say. thank you

have a good new year!

IT'S NOT US WHO AREN'T PAYING OUR BILLS ON TIME, IT'S OTHER PEOPLE AND NOW YOU'RE HARASSING OTHERS WHO ARE COMPLETELY INNOCENT! THANKS FOR WAISTING NOT ONLY YOUR TIME BUT OURS TOO! They called the number looking for an employee. Justin (the name i was told) asked for an employees mother and fathers phone number and for his cell phone and any known addresses. he was rude and said that people in my profession must not return their calls. I told him that I was not this employees mother or father and that being this a PERSONAL matter he should never call a workplace again. He also made assumptions as to this employees wealth and property holdings of the employee trying to use that to get answers.

you are totally right AF. why should we give a shit about you paying your bills or not? its obvious that the many of you who spend money to go to college really should give it to retarded kids since thats what all your education goes for...so my company is breaking laws?? do you know FDCPA laws? no do you know the law of what to do when you have to take further action? NO and you know why cuz you arent smart enough to work for a company like this. you have to be EDUCATED to work there and its obvious by all of the comments i have seen on here all of you have NO LIFE!

the fact that there was a WEBSITE created for a phone number that keeps repeatedly calling and the fact that you all post on here about how poor little you get a call from the collection agency is a fucking joke!

you are pathetic the lot of you! next time we call and you refuse to pay your bills, then we will explain to you to get lawyers ready cuz you will be sued! WHICH WE CAN DO!!! and we will be smiling the whole time you cry and tell us not to..its pretty hilarious, you guys give us great entertainment i must say! the conversations we all have about the PATHETIC excuses you give us as to why you cant pay your bills! HYSTERICAL!! thank you!

Hey Sallie Mae!
FACT! Your company breaks the law in attempting to collect debts. This problem is rampant in your industry. Maybe instead of correcting people’s grammar you might actually take a look at why these people don’t want to pay for their student loans. The bad spelling and grammar should be your first clue, you suit loser! A lot of us feel cheated by the education system in this country and have no recourse except for NOT PAYING!

per FDCPA laws if we dont think the phone num we call isnt the persons num we dont leave messages and sometimes we cant call businesses due to privacy concerns and things that dont make any sense to any of you...

dont forget, we are just doing our jobs, we arent trying to harass you, we are trying to help you pay your bill so it doesnt land on your credit report for 7 years and prevent you from getting loans and mortgages etc. but it doesnt help when you see the caller id come up for PCR and hang up b4 answering the phone. that means that the next day we will call you back because we are trying to figure out if you are the person we are looking for or you know who we are looking for..

many times phone nums go to addresses that dont match the person we are trying to locate but instead of helping us out by explaining that to us a lot of you call us names and hang up and yell into the phone, you all say we are annoying and harrassing you, it goes both ways.

ps for all of you who dont believe we are a legitimate company go on the internet and look up fortune 500 companies pioneer credit and sallie mae are right up top.

you give us respect we will too

You make a great point, "no no." Would you mind leaving your business and home phone numbers so I could call and discuss it at my convenience?
In the meantime, you may want to reread the comments. The majority of them seem to be from people getting calls by mistake or trying to find out who keeps calling without leaving a messaage. My student loan's long paid off and I'm not behind in payments to anyone, yet your company calls my business line at odd hours and never leaves a message. If you'd like people to think of you as a legitimate business, leave a message. That's what legitimate businesses do.

They are from a debt collection agency, named Pioneer credit recovery.. they called me today at 8:10am and did not leave a message.

They said in a letter I owe them almost $1300 because I was discharged from the army without finishing my 6 year contract. I was medically discharged but they don't care they want all the education money that I got back.

Now i'm disabled and they wanted proof from my doctor saying I am 100% disabled.
The US governent aka Department of Finance contracted them and uses them as a collection agency for ANY debt.

i personally know that this company is not a scam. you can look it up and it is affiliated with sallie mae. you owe the federal government money. if you want the calls to stop then answer the phone, if its the wrong number then tell them, and dont be rude. i know i dont like when people are rude to me. and if they call you and say u were used as a reference then help them out, this is serious business student loans, i had my taxes taken last year, and now im in a program with this company, and they're getting it off my credit. also i gave them my checking account info and they are currently withdrawing from my account monthly and i have had no problems with this. just pick up, find out who they're looking for and if its you.... pay your bills!

One of the popular misconceptions I see people have is that bill collectors apply to the national Do Not Call list. This is not true. Putting your phone number on the DNC list will not stop them from calling.
Also, reporting them to the FTC won't help unless you have an actual valid case. If they keep calling for someone, and you are not the person, then tell the collector nicely and politely that it's the wrong number and you do not know them. Plain and simple. If you are rude to the person, which I'm going to assume happens quite often, then they will think that you are screening calls for the person they need to contact. they are protected through the FDCPA to conduct a reasonable follow-up call. If they believe that you are giving them false information, they are allowed to call you back.
Thirdly, unless they call nonstop (every 15 minutes) or swear at you, or use any derrogatory or demeaning language to you, or threaten violence against you, it is not harassment. If they get snippy with you, then it's probably because you were snippy with them.

Contrary to what I said, if you own your business, the collector has the right to call your business phone number.

 Aug 08th, 2007
From looking at this and knowing my situation, this is a collection attempt.

Consider two things. You can tell a collector that this number called is you business phone number and your employer does not allow personal calls. Legally they can't call you on that number although by just telling them, you have no proof that you told them.

If the caller is a collection agency (not the original person you owed money to), you can send them a certified letter telling them not to call you unless it is to notify you that specific action is being taken. Then they can not call you simply to 'ask' for a payment.

If you are not the person they are calling about, do your friend a favor and don't tell the company anything. You may not know why your friend has financial problems and if they're a friend, don't make things worst.

"Christina" from 585-492-8199 called my company asking me if I have the contact info of a person in my "online networking" community ( as I have networked with many Real Estate Professionals on a certain web site comunity)

I politly asked if I could call her back since my phone needed to be charged. She said to call her back at: 1.800.243.0162. So, when I called.. I asked for "Christina".. and the lady asked which christina? I replied "I'm not sure as she called me" .. the lady said "oh..well whats your social?" ... I paused... and said... "you must be mistaken... Christina called me looking for someone else"... she said.."Oh, I'm sorry... let me connect you".....long story short... I told Christina I had no helpfull info... She said "well thanks anyway... by the way this call was recorded for quality-assurance"....
....When I got off the phone.. I though.......WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? So, I googled the number.. and found this blog site. After reading some comments, I called this company right back..asking some of my own questions.. I got no where with that question..but I was sent to the manager .. and guess who it waqs!!?.. "Christina" again... So I told her to never call my company again, what so ever. ______________

These idiots are constantly call and ask if I know the whereabouts of someone I've never heard of. I've told them I don't know the person they are referring to and have asked them repeatedly to stop calling. At one point the calls stopped but they've begun again.
Next time they call I'll have a air-horn next to the phone. I have no debts with these people, I worked full-time while in college and paid my way through. Therefore, I should not be harassed due to someone else defaulting on a loan.

These people keep harassing me!! They keep calling for my boyfriend that lived in the house for a minute. How they got my number is beyond me. The phone number is in my name, not his. The first time I spoke to the woman (Deb I think) she let me know she was from PCR, and he would know what the call was in reference to and would not give me any more information than that. I did pass him the message he let me know that it was a scam, and has not answered their call. The lady keeps calling though, she is so completely persistent, she tells me that our call is being recorded, like I give a #@$% and that she must speak to K. Though I have told her that this is not his number, and I am on the do not call registry she continues to be relentless. I do not know what to do. Last night when I spoke to her at about 730 pm she said that I would have to mail her a letter at:
PO BOX 187
ARCADIA NV 14009

All of this sounds completely crazy. If I mail her a letter she would then have my name and address associated with my phone number.

I hope someone knows exactly how to correct this situation, I am close to changing my phone number.

"Patty" called last night looking for my wife (left a message) and said something about a reference call. My wife called back and it turned out that they were looking for a friend of hers, but under the friend's maiden name. "Patty" wanted her to verify certain "demographic information" regarding her friend. My wife refused to do so and said that she had not seen that person for some time (literally true, her friend's last name is not the same anymore) but said she would pass along the contact information to her if she ran into her. When asked what this was in regard to, "Patty" said, "Oh, she'll know."

My wife immediately called her friend, who was as mystified as we were. Since her friend is a lawyer, PRC probably should watch what they try to pull with her...

Received a call just a few minutes ago from the same number...just a hangup this time. Will report them to the FTC and the State of Indiana AG if they continue to call as we are on the do not call lists.

This company is Pioneer Credit Recovery. They are a legitimate collection agency. I have worked with them in the past and they seem quite rude at first but this is just a collection tactic. If you set up a payment plan with them the calls will end. The reason they do not leave a message or state directly who they are, is that they are only allowed by law to disclose their identity to the person that they are looking for.

This company called me trying to collect on a debt that they have no legal authority to collect on. I know this because I have a pre-law degree and the debt was charged off and the legal time limit for collections has expired. The old account was sold to them by the original credit card company and this company uses the information bought ib "list" formation on old, expired, charged off debts and then fools people into believing they will be sued. You will not be sued, if the collections were serious, the original debtor would have taken care of it. You don't have to run from these calls, simply answer and tell them they have no authority to collect the debt, you are not cooperating and if they continue to harass you, you will call the government on them. I am not saying debts should not be paid, but the truth is, if you agree to pay these people, your credit report will not benifit and the original credit agency will not see a penny of it.

Woman called me today and asked for me by name(although she couldn't pronounce it). I asked why she wanted to know, she just asked if I had a daughter or a school loan and was my birthday Nov. 18th, I said no, and tried to ask her why she wanted my info. She got ticked and said I should stop cutting her off and answer her ?'S, and she would tell me. I said she'd not get my personal info with out telling me why, first. She kept cutting me off and so I hung up. If they call back, it'll be WWIV.

Someone called looking for someone I know, but has never had anything to do with my phone number that i have had for about 7 years. Although her aunt used to live in the house that i now own. I went off on the guy until he tried to tell me that his name was JORDAN and he was friends with the person he was looking for and that he was looking to get a hold of her. Call was placed on 2/1/07

They started calling me we ran behing on our sears card and they turned us in to collections which is Pioneer credit. These people are so RUDE... They most the time just call and not leave a message. We have talked to them about 10 times and have told them we can fix our issue now and they keep saying the same thing and harrassing us. So for all of you who have a sear credit card don't fall in to collections or you will get a phone call from them.

These guys called me this morning at 5:30 AM and woke me up. They are not abiding to Fair Credit Collections policies and are flat out disturbing this sleeping bear's slumber. If they call again at that time, I can only say that this situation could come to a head.

They called looking for my first ex-wife. I guess she'd listed me as a contact. I told them I didn't know how they could get in touch with her. I asked who it was. Lady was very polite, and said she was from New York, and it regarded a business matter.
Funny thing is she called on my home phone, which I don't think the ex-wife had, and I have a very common name.

I got a call asking for someone named Debra who is listed at this number (we aren't listed) but Debra had my roommate's last name. I said no that she must have moved. She then proceeded to interrogate me as to how I could have known that if I didn't know her. I explained the obvious - that if she no longer had our number, that the likely conclusion is that she had moved. I finally hung up when I got tired of being interrogated like a criminal.

Woman asked for a name I didn't recognize. When I told her no such person lived here she asked if my address was XX, which was a few houses up my street, and did I have a phone number for that residence. Even if I did there's no way I'm giving it out to someone who came off as a telemarketer.

They call my home and cell phone at least three times a day. They also call my workplace repeatedly, even after I've told them several times to not contact me at work.

This is a collection agency. They actually collect for many different clients. If they are calling you because of your neighbor(trying to get ahold of them) you only have to tell them that you have no information. They can not legally contact you again to get ahold of your neighbor or if they have the wrong number and you have told them so, mention the FDCPA regulations. You shouldn't have any problems after that.

Day 2 (Friday): Different lady left a message on my office voicemail this morning at 9:58 a.m., announcing, "This is Stacey, and this is an important call, if you could give me a quick call back." She again gave 800-609-0274 as the number to call (ext 22127). Her tactic was evidently to sound friendly and casual, rather than threatening. There was no "case number" to mention, but that's often what the "extension" really refers to. I'll keep an ear out to see if I get the same "extension number" but with a different call center name next time.

About a month ago, I saw I had a missed call from this number and on the voice mail message, they just hung up. I called it back, and after being redirected 5 different times, I found out it was in regards to a Sallie Mae Student Loan. I was a little worried because I don't have any student loans, but then they finally told me they made a mistake. Then today, they call me again and asked for Marty. I didn't even notice that it was the same number that called me a month ago. Very strange.

Lady left a message on my office voicemail, casually asking for "either Mr. Louis or [my name]," and then asking me to call her at 800-609-0274 (with an extension). Called three times in all, plus probably two more times routed through our call center, all between 10:05 a.m. and 10:46 a.m., although only one message was actually left. Obviously a clever tactic to make me think it's something benign and call back. "Mr. Louis" clearly does not exist, and the caller knows that. Thank you for this website! I will be sure to click on all of your ads.
