There is much confusion throughout this thread which I hope the following will dispel.
Debt collection is not a "scam" in the typical sense of a pest you can safely ignore. Unlike other nuisance callers, collection agencies can enforce their bad will through the courts. There is no "list" in a sales sense to be removed from and you are not going to hurt them by adding a few nickels to their phone bill.
The FCC lacks jurisdiction, and the DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales, meaning all debt collectors are exempt. This fact was not kept secret from you when you registered your numbers. Attorneys general and the FTC are valid complaint venues which help the publc good. But understand that you must confront collection agencies directly if you dislike their treatment of your privacy and consumer rights.
If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and the means to sue at low cost. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.
The misdirected calls are part of a skip tracing process, permitted but tightly controlled by law. If you're not the intended victim, send the collection agency a cease-comm notice. If there is any chance your name is on a valid claim, make the agency validate. Send these letters via USPS Certified with return card to make them stick. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft them.

Mar 23rd, 2011They are a collections department. In this case when I answered they were trying to collect an old t-mobile bill (I've never had that service in my life) and didn't know the name of the person they were trying to contact
i just discovered fraudulant activity on my credit card. as soon as i cancelled my credit card, i started getting calls from this number. i don't know if the two situations are connected or just coincidence, but suspicious nonetheless. i'm blocking the number from my phone.
another scammer number=same as the rest
Keep getting calls from this number. I do not answer if I don't know who is calling. Caller ID says 'Out of Area' and nothing else. They never leave a message either. I'm tired of getting these calls at all hours, days. I have never had service with AT&T or Alltel or Verizon. And my number is on the 'do not call' list as well. Hopefully, they'll get tired of calling my landline and never getting an answer.

Sep 26th, 2010These people called me and asked to speak with my EX-wife. She has never lived here, she does not know where I live and lives in another city 220 miles away. We got divorced 14 years ago and, I have not spoken to her since. We do not have any kids together. Obviously this place is running a scam.

May 31st, 2010I keep getting calls from this # on my business line with hang ups
They called several times without leaving a message. Today I answered and they were looking for a Michael Brown - which is not me. There were kids playing in the background and the person answering was acting like I had called him. We'll see if they stop calling.
calls my cell at all times of the day. Each call ends up as missed call, even if i answer it.
ID only shows ph number. I'm being called on my cell with no message. If i answer no-one's there.
I am receiving calls from this number, also. I have never been late on a payment in my life and I'm on the Do Not Call list. My daughter has had a couple of debt problems, so I think they are possibly calling about her. I do not answer the calls. Go to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website and fill out the online complaint form. Quick and painless. Also, contact your phone company about call blocking on a per call basis or as a regular monthly service.
A business called RPM making claims that I have a debt with Gold's Gym. I explained to them that I paid off the debt 9 years ago... They told me they would contact the client and take me off their list. The calls have not ceased. They are now calling my cell phone number (on the Do Not Call list) a few times per day. I've changed my phone number and am now reporting them.
please stop these calls..everyday..even on sundays
It's annonying!!! I am sick of this spam call. Actually, I don't know why he called me, but I'm sure that it's spam.
I contacted the Better Business Bureau to report this phone number but they say they can't do anything without the address, it's in Haymarket, VA but I need the address in order to report this. They call me at least twice a day and it's really getting on my nerves. I already had to change my number once because some guy was stalking me with prank calls and I do not want to do it again. So if anyone can get the address for me please help me out. Thanks
I need to know what the fax number is to ask them to stop calling me.
For last two days, received phone call from Receivablesperf, asking to speak to our daughter who has been married and lived away from home for over 10 years, asking for her by her maiden name. This is definitely a scam. She has no outstanding debts.
Called and no answer. Shows up as unknown.
240-210-7114 is also connected with RECEIVABLESPERF.
I have had this number a short time and the collection agencies for the previous owner of the phone say they can call anytime and as often as they want to.
Please know the Town of Haymarket, Virginia, which is where this 571 number is originating from, has nothing to do with this company. We do not know who they are, or where they are calling from.
Also, watch out for this number,
301-830-8833. It's the same tactics.
Automated call left the tail end of a message to call
888-357-2131. Know no more than that. Don't have any debts.
I googled Receivables Performance Management and called their direct number
866-212-7408 in reqards to phone calls to a friend of mine. It seems that they were calling on a granddaughters debt. I informed them that she did not live at this address and they were going to take this number off the call list.
Called and asked for my husband like he was a long lost friend. It's after 8pm here and I have children in bed. I told the girl this and hung up. I never told her if she had the right number or not.
I too have my number listed under DO NOT CALL and it means squat with something like this. I wish there were some way to stop this because I have an elderly mother who lives with me and she is not always careful about what she says to someone on the phone. I have received numerous calls from this number over the past year, always with messages to "call them back" and since I did not recognize the number I did not return the call. Tonight, however, the call came in and when I answered a man asked for me by name and said I owed money to Alltel back from 2002 and had to pay it or else. I told him he had the wrong person and he was nasty, argumentative, and accusatory. I hung up and called Alltel/Verizon who assured me my account was in good standing and in fact has never had any problems. The customer service person suggested I contact the Better Business Bureau and report the calls.
I recieve 5-6 calles a day and asking for Sersalem and i don't know who that is so i aways hang up but they also asked for my credit card numders.
I have received several calls from this number and did answer. After seeing this posting I decided to call and Kelly from RPM answered. She was very naice and stated they were looking for some guy and that they would take my number off the list.
I am getting calls too - same crap
payment-inquiry@receivablesperformance.com Receivable Performance Management...you can find them online.
I too have been getting calls and then hang ups from this number. I sent an email to the above address....who knows if it will do any good at stopping the calls. I owe no one. My number once belonged to someone who didnt pay their bills so I am constantly getting calls....very frustrating!
This number has been calling me at all times of the day and even at work. They say that they are a collectors agency and want my credit card number, but they won't do any business through the mail, they only want my credit over the phone.
This number is a collection agency that called me after 8 pm which is illegal and they should be reported to the better business beau. They call and hang up or harase you.
This number has started calling. I do not pick up and they leave no message.
this number called me and a man named "oscar" was very creepy.he said he thought he had the wrong number. he was asking me for my name and what my phone number was nad then proceeded to ask me personal questions like was i getting ready for school or work and asking about my husband. then after i said " you have the wrong number, bye".. he called back 2 hours later and asked for me by name, so obviously he knew he didnt have the wrong number. if he calls again, im notifying the police.
Kept getting calls from the above number even on cell, the best way to stop this kind of practice is to trace the number and check if there's a corp or company
Came from RPM, send them a fax letter to stop calling you either at home, work and or cell, you have rights
RPM is a company located in Portland OR. and Lynnwood WA, this will work, if harassment continue call of fax Federal Authority, search engines have the info
I do not have verizon and my sprint is paid in full each month. the only outstanding bills I have are from Hospital visits over the past year So I assume they would be collecting for them. I do not answer calls when I don't know who is calling. And they do not leave a message. When I called them back they answered RPM and wouldn't say anything else about who they were calling for so I hung up. This is the second or third call from them in a week.
I have been getting calls from receivablesperf 571-261-0020 &
503-292-2077 for about 3wks. I never answered. Then one day I figured let me call back and see who keeps calling me. A lady answered the phone, "RPM; may I help you". I ask what kind of company was this. Without answering my question she abruptly said, "We called you looking for John Smith. Do you know him?" I said no and that was the end of that. Can't say whether or not the calls will stop. That was just a few moments ago. I let u know. I am on the do not call list as well.
Called twice. When answered with Hello, there was just silence. When answered and said nothing, what sounded like a recorded message asked to call a 1-888 number.
Just another scam, trying to phish for information. If you get a real person on the line asked them to send any documentation they have to the address that they have for the account. Most will not have any proof that they are representing any company that may or may not be owed. Most likely they will just hang up on you (or start swearing at you) if you ask for documentation. Please, DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE BACK. It only helps them to sell your telephone number to another list, plus they can now say they have done business with you in the past (just because you called them back).
Especially don't call them back if they don't leave a name. They have to identify themselves if they don't that's just another indication that they are out phishing. You have no guarantee that when you call a toll-free number that they will not re-route your call in some way that will cause a charge to show up on your phone bill. If you didn't initiate the original call, don't call them back.

Oct 05th, 2009They never leave a message and I'm on the do not call list!If I don't recognise the number I figure it isn't someone I need to talk to.

Sep 30th, 2009I just googled this phone number and this page popped up. I just received a call from this number and they left a message saying that they have an important message for me. An automated female voice said for me to "call them back at work" and they left an 800 number.
Then I read all of your comments below........and it appears that it is the Receivable Performance company. I have been getting calls from them too......it shows up on my Caller ID as Receivables Performance. But today's call came from another phone # with no caller ID available. I have been averaging around 4-5 calls a day from them for about 6 months. Sometimes they call as late as 9:30 PM !!
When I try answering the phone (to see who it is and to tell them to put me on their "do not call list".....they just hang up. What is this all about??? I have my phone registered to the "Do Not Call List".....yet I still get these calls.I don't owe anyone any money!!
What can we do about this? Who do you report this to?? It is annoying and borderlines harassment, if my opinion.
Everyday I am getting calls from this number! This has been for over 3 weeks.

Sep 27th, 2009I believe these people are collecting for AT&T also. I have disputed charges with them I could never resolve (including a $40 credit they never supplied) and after fooling around with them for a year I cancelled my service. Now these people are calling me. I have not spoken to them in person, but they do not leave a name, just a number saying to call me at work or something like that. They leave a tollfree number.
Constantly getting calls from them phone always rings twice and then whoever it is hangs up. Very annoying when I am on the phone with clients and I am being called at the most inconvenient time by some ass-hat.
This company, Receivables Performance Management, has found that it is cheaper to annoy hundreds of innocent people via their autodialed spam calls than it is to do the research to figure out where their debtors really live. It's time to turn the telephone economics against them. Their web site lists these toll-free numbers:
866-212-7408,
888-452-9175,
800-618-6420, and
800-618-8586. A call to a toll-free number from a pay phone results in a charge, usually 30 to 60 cents, to the owner of the toll-free line. Need I say more?
All of a sudden in the past week I've started receiving numerous calls from this number and
888-357-2131,
877-866-8300, and
240-210-7114. Most were hang-up calls, but a few left some undecipherable message asking for some Arab guy to call them back. Probably all related, and probably all part of a phishing scam as others have suggested on here.
Called me, but I don't owe any money. I pay all my bills every month with no carry over. I talked to them thinking that somehow something was misfiled against me. Finally I figured out that they was "fishing" for information on an old friend of mine from back in the early 1980s. They had moved to another state and we lost touch. They was trying to get information out of me to track down someone else. How they even connected me with him I don't know. They still continue to call but I now don't answer.
The guy who called did not state the name of the company he was calling from but stated that if he did not set up a payment plan with me today that they would be calling AT LEAST 3X A DAY UNTIL THEY COLLECT! If I take the message for the person they are calling for why do they feel the need to continue calling a few more times that same day? This guy named Nick was very rude and I look forward to receiving another call from this company to let them know I will be reporting them to the BBB.
I recieved 5 calls yesterday, all of them 2 rings and a hang up, from this number. When I called, I found out they are Recievabls Performance Management RPM. I went to their website http://www.receivablesperformance.com/ and they are a collection agency for whoever their clients are. I have a policy of not answering the phone if I don't know the caller and they haven't left a message so I don't know what they want. I'm going to be making a phone call to the Better Business Bureau today and report them and I would encourage everyone that reads these complaint to do the same. You may owe money but they are stepping over the bounds of what is legal with their tactics. If I were a hacker, I would do my best to destroy their servers to stop them.

May 08th, 2009called me @ 8:30 pm. i didn't answer.
Called, rang twice before I could answer, hung up. Better either call and talk, leave a message or stop calling. NO ROBOTS!!!
This might be collections from T-Mobile too
I called this number and was put on hold for 7 minutes of "your call is important to us---your call will be answered in the order.....then I was told to leave my name and number and they would return my call. They hung up. RIGHT. I hung up. So annoying and we are on the do not call list. Also I don't have Sprint and don't owe any money.

Apr 05th, 2009RPM is Receiveable Performance Management, a bill collector for various companies based in Haymarket, VA.
I have been receiving endless, unrelenting telephone calls from RPM Receivables in or near Haymarket, Va for about six months now. They call on the average of 8 times a day, sometimes as many as 11, and frequently after 8:30pm in the evening. Usually they ring 3 times and hang up. If I try to answer they hang up. When I have been able to get a voice on the other end I tell them I know who and where they are and ask what do they want with me. The answering party refuses to give me any information for the reason of the harrassment. I have reported them and their telephone number to FTC yet the calls go on unabated. They are not connected to any debt of mine that I know of. These people are outside the law and I intend to do everything I can to prefer charges against them for violation of the Federal Consumer debt collections act - sections 805 and 806. All of the complaints I see on this web page are covered in that portion of the Consumer debt collections act which can be found by browsing Google for it. Raymond Woolfe / Troy, VA 22974

Mar 27th, 2009I got a call from this number. The guy on the other end was pretending to be a bill collector for Nicor Gas company. From what I have read I am sure this is a scam, but thought that since they're pretending to collect for another company people would like to know that they've changed their tune.
Got a call from this number. The man on the line ("Chris") was extremely obnoxious. When I asked what company he was with, he demanded to know who I was. Finally (after asking several times) he said his company was RPM but refused to say what those letters stand for. The guy was extremely rude and I still don't know why they'd be calling - I assumed he was a telemarketer until I found this site.
Well, here's the facts, RPM is a collection agency for Sprint/Nextel. I was past due on my cell phone account with Sprint. I went to a local Sprint store, paid my account in full, zero balance. I was informed my account showed a credit of $42.56, so I asked for a refund. Sprint said I would receive a check within 10 business days. The next morning, I received another call from Receivablesperf. I called the number 571-261-0020. I asked if RPM was a collection agency for Sprint. The woman said yes. I explained to her that my Sprint account balance was zero. She said I would not get anymore phone calls and I haven't. My contract with Sprint expired Dec. 14th, 2008. I did not renew my contract with Sprint. I bought a track phone, now I'm in control.
I have received so many calls from this number...I called it back as says soemone will be with me in 2min, then 1min and finally someone picks up the phone and asks how may they help me. I tell them i get calls from this number day in and day out and the gentleman says it eblongs to a kwame edwards?!?!?...I don't know a guy by that name, but this is just bizarre.

Dec 30th, 2008They call me 5-6 times a day everyday. I called my phone carrier and had the number blocked it's *60 on my phone, I have comcast digital voice. It was either that or changing my number. I look at my call records and they are ridiculous every number is receivablesperf.Missed Unknown (571) 261-0020 11/16/2008 10:50 PM
Missed Unknown (571) 261-0020 11/16/2008 10:45 PM
Missed Unknown (571) 261-0020 11/16/2008 10:39 PM
I have call that date from August to now, thank god for that block, but just seeing all these calls from them annoy me and it is untraceable someone had told me it was sprint, then verizon. Who knows.
They call at least 4 times a day and never leave a message!!!
In the past week I have received three calls from receivablesperf. When I answer no one responds. This number is found in Hay Market, VA and is a Verison customer. Have read blogs that someone is pretending to be a bill collector and collect money. BIG FARCE. How do we stop this crap?
