They called my cell phone on 11/19/2008. I programed the number as AutoWar111908. I told them not to call my cell phone and to take me off their list.

They or someone else also called my cell phone on 03/06/2008 with the number 562-228-7160. And then on 07/25/2008 from 785-890-8855. Then on 11/14/2008 another call from 605-462-6063.

I haven't received any calls on my cell phone since.

I've recieved many calls on my home number though. I usually tell them I have a car that doesn't exist like a Chevy Mustang. The sad thing is I talked to a guy for over 10 minutes and he didn't even realize I was making up a car that didn't exist. When I sprung it on him that I pulled the wool over his eyes and waisted his time like he waisted mine, he hung up. I suggest that you make up something and waist their time. You'll get a laugh which is good for your health and they can't call 20 people while they are talking to you!

Kept the person on the line until they were flustered and gave me to their supervisor. After some pressing, an officious young man came on the line and when asked about the company name, he said it was "Extended Auto Warranty" (obviously, a genius at work here based on the name) and when confronted about a number, he gave me 1-800-905-1012. I called them after about 30 minutes and got someone who answered as 'Corporate Office' - when I asked their location, he said 'Plantation Florida' - when I asked if it was on the peninsula, he said "No, it's in the south". (IGNORAMUS FLAG!) After more pressing, he gave me the web site of http://theautowarranty.com - on that site, the address is listed as 1868 North University Dr. Suite 304, Plantation, FL 33322 - BUT their address for feedback is 3430 Sunset Avenue, Ocean, NJ 07712.

Their domain is hosted by GoDaddy and was created on May 8, 2007 with an expiration of May 8, 2009 - Have you ever heard of a company that only buys domains for 2 years?

Checking the whois database, we get the registrant:

plantation, Florida 33322

So.... there's the data from a little digging on the internet. Mr Shapiro, if you see this, realize that everyone your company calls knows who you are, where you are, and they have your phone number :)

Several numbers have been listed on this site regarding phone calls stating,
"This is the second notice that the warranty on your vehicle may be expiring."
Doesn't it resemble what a spammer is to email? Is there a name for this type of trickery?
The calls come from Florida, California, Nevada to name a few. The caller ID will reflect many different names and numbers.
Here is a list of a few.

Thank God for caller ID.

And how about those rude employee's.
Do you think they are as rude to those who get sucked into their scam?
What I don't like, is the fact that they are blatantly getting away with breaking the law. (www.donotcall.gov)

Why are they calling my cell phone?
Trish

I've been getting these calls on all my phones for months, they won't take me off their lists and call my cell during the day costing me minutes! They are abusive, they try to scam people out of their money, and THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED.
I like this idea of flooding them with a bunch of toll-free calls at their expense, lets do this!!!
1. Their number is 888-898-8778, which they will change once this campaign starts taking effect... SO lets post any new numbers they might have, also if they call again....see if you can get their toll-free number and post it
2. 'Skype OUT' lets you call toll-free number all day long for no charge. So call them, mute them (or f**k with them), wait till they hang up, and repeat. Its fun.
3. I like scripting, here is an applescript that calls them, waits till they hang up, then calls them again. Put it on a bunch of macs, let it run, its fun:

repeat
tell application "Skype"
send command "CALL 888-898-8778" script name "My Other Script"
end tell
end repeat

does anyone know an easy way to script skype on a PC?

Got an automated call to my CELL! When they cvonnected me to a human they asked for info about my car right away. I told them since they seem to know that my warranty is expiring (odd, last I checked I have 4 years left) they should be able to tell me this info. The woman immediatly hung up on me. Last I checked they needed to stay on the line long enough to let me ask for my name and number to be removed (gee, in'nt there even a LAW for that?!?!?)

As part of my zero-tolerance policy for unsolicited telemarketer phone calls, I have reported these losers to the FCC and the Better Business Bureau. Please do this as well - this will at best stop this practice and at worst create major hassle for them! To report to the FCC, send an email to fccinfo@fcc.gov; to report them to the BBB, use this link (it is a direct link to a form for this particular company... the fact that it already exists should tell you something...) http://www.bbbsoutheastflorida.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Utils/ComplaintDetail.aspx?CompanyID=23003530 PLEASE HELP BY REPORTING THEM!

"Hi, this is Glenn and I'm giving you a courtesy notice concerning your automobile. Uh, We recently mailed you out a postcard (No, you didn't) to activate your extended warranty coverage on your auto but we have not been able to contact you. So, this is your final notice (Yes, at last!) that your vehicle will be reclassified and removed from our system (Yes, at last again!) which means the opportunity to activate your extended warranty coverage will be lost (YAY!), uh, however if you call me back today you can still activate this coverage at a discounted rate. It's really fast and easy so please call me back today before 10pm regarding your option before the deadline. My number is 877-233-4610"

Yesterday Robert had the same incredible offer, but I thought HIS was the final offer? If I play it right, I might get their final offers done to "free". LOL. LOSERS
