Oh, also, this same scam is coming to me in the mail from HSBC (the company with the "fat money piggy bank"), but the phone number on the letter is a 1-866 number. Same thing, different number.

Their offer was to lower my car payment by $50 a month while also "lowering" my interest rate. Pretty funny as the new interest rate was double the interest rate I'm paying now.

For those not in the know, if you're tired of getting free credit offers and such, you can put a block on your credit report that keeps Capital One, etc, from checking your credit without your written permission. We did this and within 2 weeks our junk mail dropped by half.

Good luck.

I don't know which place is calling you, but I've been getting calls from 506-222-72255. I notice that like your caller, the number comes up with too many digits. When I answered, I got a computer telling me that "they" have found out I'm paying too much interest on my credit cards and "they" can lower it significantly, saving me 100s of dollars, etc. Press 1 if you are interested. Three times I have pressed one simply to get a human online and told them to stop calling me. My number is a cell and is on the Do Not Call List. I don't think they are even targeted calls, because I only have one credit card, it's rate is 7.5% (beat that!), and my credit report is locked against unsolicited offers, so there's no way they could even get that information. I would bet good money your caller is the same. Yesterday they called me for the 3rd time. This time when I said I was on the Do Not Call list, the guy hung on upon. Since the phone number has too many numbers, you can't call back - I've tried several combinations and have tried to locate who has the number. I did a quick search for yours as well and came up empty. My only advice to you, especially if you phone is a cell (because this crap cost me daytime minutes!) is to call your phone company and ask them to block the number. It won't stop the unknowns and unavailables, but it will stop that number when it is identified. You can also let your phone company know they are "spamming" you and it's possible that your phone company already has them on file. Best of luck - I can't stand this kind of crap.

Automated message that I'd heard before claims to be your "credit card customer service" and that there is no problem with your account, but your eligibility for a low-rate program of some type will soon be expiring. 2 times I've pressed the 1 or # button to be connected to their operators. First time, as soon as I mentioned being on the Do Not Call registry, they dumped the call. 2nd time, when I hesitated about giving my personal information, they also dumped the call.

I got a weird message on my phone weeks ago about lowering my interest? Then I got a call last night 4/22 at 8:50 from a girl whose name sounded like Ashton/Ashtin. She said I was approved for a lower interest rate b/c I had been paying pymts on time for my Visa and MasterCard. Odd considering I have NEVER had a credit card! When I told her this I got hung up on. I think its a scam to get your info to allow then to take your identity & credit history. I have also recieved a call from Verizon, phone co. Ive never used stating my bill needed to be paid. Verizon apparently issued my Cingular cell# to a business located two hours from my residence. I am weiry about the phone companies due to the fact that my father had his identity stollen from a women whose husband was in prison and able to access our phone records from prison allowing his wife my fathers identity, messing up his credit, almost costed him his securities license affecting his job, cost our family over $100,000 and a lot of grief. This was done from a prison in the US for six years and the police had not been able to trace it back to the source until our families case. These phone calls from the so called "phone companies" or "creditcard companies" are bogus, do not give them any info. If someone knows how they are getting peoples #s id love to know!

They called, I didn't answer and the machine picked it up, but of course they didn't leave a message.

My situation is entirely different from those below. Received the following text message on my cell phone on 5/22/08 at 9:48p:
From 717-418-0511
50622210470. Hi, I recd call from this # but can't pull the msg can u try. On my cell and if not call it and see who it is pls.
CB: 717-418-0511.

The 717 number is a Harrisburg, PA, Verizon exchange number. I obviously didn't call the number and there was no reply from the caller when I asked who they were (big surprise there ...). I indicated I knew it was a Verizon number and I would report them to Verizon for abuse. I'll also file an FTC report as this number is also on the DNC listing. Thanks for the add'l info on PHL International. I will include that info as well. Am concerned I will get add'l calls from these morons now.

Call received on cell phone about lower interest rates and to press one to speak to an associate. Pressed one and when male came on, asked if I called about lowering interest rates. I told him to remove my number and he immediately hung up without letting me finish the sentence.

called my cell phone said it was concerning my credit card, I then hung up.

This number actually began as 1-062-221-0470. Obviously that does not have a valid area code. Some searching provided the information that the caller was 506-222-1047. And so we are back to the company who calls me wanting to reduce my credit card rates, a company that calls from So. California and various parts of Florida. Person who has called me from Ca. and Fla. is named Heather. Funny thing is that credit card rates don't apply to us as we NEVER run a balance. BTW, they don't remove your name. We have a phone number (for 5 years) that was previously a number of someone whose credit must be pretty bad as the collectors are constantly calling. You'd think that they would want their money badly enough to be calling the correct person. When I suggest that they back-search the number they are calling they get abusive. I finally was able to get an address through research and wrote the company. Their response was hopeful. We'll see.

"TM2" left a message to contact a certain website re: scam cell phone calls. DO NOT CLICK the website address. You'll get more pop-ups than you'll know what to do with.

If you want to learn about the company behind this scam go to the web site where they are in the process of being exposed (company names, owners names, etc.). THIS is the information you need for reporting to the FCC, DNC your state's Attorneys General offices AND the Florida BBB and Florida Attorney's General office, because the company and its owner reside there. Reporting them using one of their fake business names (Account Services, Card Services, Consumer Services, etc.) or the spoofed numbers that show up on your Caller ID (they use different ones sometimes daily) will not result in action being taken, but if everyone reported the real company name (it's PHL International owned by American Debt Negotiators, both owned by a Ran David Barnea), then authorities have something real to act on.

Just go to the aforementioned website and you'll have what you need to know to help put a stop to these criminals.

This evening (May 20, 2008) I received an automated call which showed up on the screen as 506-222-10470, stating that my vehicle warranty was about to expire. After pressing one to speak to an operator, someone introduced himself as Jaime (male voice) from the Auto Protection Center and verified my Verizon cell number. He immediately asked for my VIN number and Insurance information. I asked him which one of my vehicles the call was about, as I have several vehicles (non with a warranty however). He said they did not have access to that information (no kidding). I told him this sounded to me like a solicitation call, and to remove my number from their call list. He simply said, "Have a nice day" and hung up. Scammers...
