voip caller from 415-500-6970 calling numerous times starting oct 2015--- hangs up on ans machine
They're hired to call to renew subscriptions to trade magazines. We subscribe to about 13 different trade publications, and they call when it's time to renew. They never "scam" us, just verify the name and mailing info and that's it. Some of the mags are expensive, so sometimes they want more in-depth info to make sure you or your company qualify to get the mags for free. If you don't subscribe to any trade pubs, then it's probably one of two or three things: 1) Someone who used to have your number before you did subscribe, 2) Someone entered a random fake number when subscribing so they wouldn't get these calls and it happened to be your number, or 3) Someone used your number on purpose instead of their own, most likely because they think it's funny or they just don't like you.

Claims to be calling on behalf of a professional journal in the petroleum industry to confirm subscription, but
requires personal (where born, etc.) and security questions usually required for electronic transfers via bank. The man appears high tech professional.
Called them back and their recorded message says they are a survey company who surveys customers for other companies.
