I've been receiving what seems like a daily call from variety of phone numbers. I've told them to mail me at my PO Box, but I've never received any billing information to substanatiate their claim of who they represent. The following is a partial list of caller IDs when they've called:

This caller calls Sundays through Saturday morning, Noon and Night and never leaves a messsage on the answering machine. The times I picked up the phone there were long pauses and clicks. This was so annoying I hung up. I have no idea why they're calling or what they want.

Left message, after a full minute of blank tape, said to call 1-800-860-0644 for a debt collection, but did not say who this was for??? Then stated their main office was in Virginia.

They also called from three other NEW Numbers, this month, but did not leave a message. I just keep blocking their numbers. They never say who these calls are for, and they seldom leave a message. Most times, they get my Voice Mail, use up 1-2 minutes of blank tape, then hang-up.

Rich, unless your name is on that account and you are willing to divulge your SSN and/or other identifiers, PRA will never bow to your verbal demands. You should by law see a dunning letter any day now if you're the right target. If you are totally certain not to be in debt, a written cease-comm is best. The FTC and other consumer groups explain how to prep and send one.

They call every day, sometimes multiple times. Never leave a message.
I'm thinking might answer the next call and force them to give me ALL the information on the alleged debt (name, bank, account number, etc.) and tell them I will deal directly with the bank and if they have a problem, they had better run for cover!

They call everyday, more than once a day. Don't leave message and I don't answer. These are bottom feedere. I am not behind on any debts. Start calling early morning to late at night.

Yes, yes, you've offered this "solution" before regarding PRA 620-662-8870) and my answer is the same. The FTC needs to know that the calls are harming _citizens_ to take action. Don't you think they already get junk calls like the rest of us? Moreover, while regulators hand down million dollar fines periodically, they do not exist to solve one particular person's problem. That's partly why the FDCPA and FCRA have private right of action built in, so you can confront and defeat bad behavior alone, and often without legal aid. Collectors dread being open to a lawsuit a LOT more than they care about stupid pranks.

The solution to getting these harassing jerks to stop is to forward their phone calls to the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357. Let them bother someone who can do something about it.

Once the FTC starts getting hammered with their calls, they'll do something about it.

This company, Portfolio Recovery Associates, calls from many different phone numbers. Today was from 407-347-4014. Sometimes they will leave a voice message, but for someone else, not me. They will not stop calling. Others have stated that when they answer the call and say that they have the wrong number that the Portfolio employee becomes nasty. I do not need to have some total stranger try to ruin my day because they have the wrong number. Every time they call, I file a complaint with the FTC. It seems to make the calls go away for about a month, then they start again from a new number. File your complaint here:

Trying to collect a debt from Orchard Bank Credit Card. She was nice and polite. Said she was in Tennessee, not Florida. First call from them, usually from someone that can't speak American. Most of the time India or Chicago.

Portfolio Recovery Associates is among the worst collectors for lawbreaking. If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

these people call over and over and over-never a message, just call, call, call. they are a recovery co. Probably bought a debt that was wrote off, bought it for $1, and then they try to get the original amount from the debtor. the problem is: the original debt was wrote off and the company is not persueing the debt. SCAMMERS they want something for nothing.
