Called at 4:33 PM 12/11/08. Left no msg. Caller ID'd as "Florida."
Googled it and found this and many other reports/complaints about the "automobile warranty about to expire" scam attempts.
I've gotten at least 25 calls from at least 13 different numbers, almost all of which caller ID as "Florida" since December of 2007.
Here are the numbers (in order of use):
1 407 251-6572
A new number shows up about each month. They're "spoofing" caller ID, and and the phone numbers. They're also obviously changing to "new" numbers to avoid detection & countermeasures. Such as "Blocked Caller" lists.
I'm sharing this info with my Maryland Attorney General's Office and a major local TV outlet (WBAL-TV 11, Baltimore). As a result of a WBAL-TV investigative report on these "Florida" phone scammers, the OAG has promised an aggressive investigation to find and prosecute them ... and - to coordinate efforts with other states's AG's.
So - FILE FORMAL COMPLAINTS WITH YOUR RESPECTIVE STATES'S ATTORNEYS GENERAL OFFICES and share this information with them.

I've received multiple recorded message from her - a true nuisance.
Call came up out of area and recording went on and on about satellite tv and if you don't know what a dvr is to push number 1 on the phone and if they reached you by mistake then push 9 - we are on the DO NOT CALL list and use Direct TV, so don't know how they got our number!
386-738-4001 called 9/16/08 - after short pause there was pre-recorded message from "Mary Roberts" with "Sattelite TV" with some promotional offer for Satellite TV. Press 1 for a live agent. 9 to be removed from the list. We have been on DO NOT CALL for several years (whenever it started really) and have in the past few weeks seen a surge in commercial unsollicited calls.
definitely a scam because people posting about this number (on this site and other sites) all have different stories about the nature of this call -- timeshare, credit card rate, dish network, satellite tv, generic special offers -- I just pick up and hang up these days.....like I did w/ this one
Wanting to sell me DirecTV when we already have that installed. LOL Just blocked the number.
Got the call today, didn't answer but the fax did, no fax.
This number calls, gets the machine, and hangs up.
Call at noon:45 PDT. Automated call, offered an option to push 1, so I did. Person on the other end said they were a call center (actual words), and they were selling Dish Network. I tried to play it cool, asked for a website I could check out their offer. She said, "Uh, I don't know. Um, I guess Dish Network dot com? I really don't know. Maybe do a Google search or something?" When I asked if I could check out her website so I could compare offers, she immediately hung up.
This is the exact same tactic I've been getting a lot more of recently. Automated call with an option to push 1 to talk to someone, then as soon as I ask for any contact info, they hang up.
I will do some more research to see if I can find their info. If I do, I'll post it here so you can send a "Cease & Desist" letter. (I have a letter I typed up years ago after a spate of these calls. It's sounds just like an attorney wrote it, and threatens lawsuit with any further contact. Every single company I've sent it to has stopped contacting me within days of my sending it. So this tactic REALLY WORKS!)
An automated message about DVR's and cable boxes. I tried to hang up the call and it continued to play even after I hung up and picked the phone up several times.
Pressed 1 to talk to a rep. Asked for the company name ("Dish Network"), and then I asked for a contact number and she hung up. Scam. Free Cable, yada yada. Why doesn't the FCC close these guys down.
I stayed on the line and it was some dish satellite service who offered low rates and free remotes. I am already on the do not call list and requested they remove me from their list.
Recorded promo from Satellite TV trying to sell me. Never chose to speak w/live person.
Received call 5:15 pm. Party said nothing. Called back - NUMBER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED and NOT IN SERVICE. Careful, this might be a scam. BLOCKED them for future calls to us.
E-mail FeedBack@customermail.dishnetwork.com and you should get this response.

caller ID says Deland,FL
no message left
I think this is a company that has called before and has now changed names and number. Same old line as before wanting to lower my cc rates.
hoped it was a chick calling me
Got this call, too. I reported them to the FCC and FTC. Do the same if they call you too. It's a scam!!
I got a call from this #, the person didn't speak although I could hear them moving about, then they hung up. Moments later I got a call from 386-738-4001
Deland, Fl, telling me I was behind on some CC, stay on the line, the operator who I finally got asked for my name and address. When I said first I wanted to know what CC company she was representing she hung up on me. I believe the two #'s are connected....one phishing to see who's home and the second trying to get people's information. BEWARE!!
I looked on my area code list. It said area code 386 is in Florida. I don't know anyone in that state.
