I am about 99% certain they are using a system that takes what you say and uses voice recognition to play messages that sound very much like you are talking to a real person. But if you think about it, you can tell it's not. Try giving responses that are unusual and see what they say then. Even with normal responses you can tell if you pay close attention. It's like you are talking to a clever robot. :-)

Since this telemarketer / lead generator is using a recording, you can report them to the FTC at 1-888-382-1222 even if you are NOT on the federal do-not-call list. Report them. The more complaints the more likely they will be shut down and fined into the stone age. :-)

Received a call stating they were from some automotive group and they were questioning about how many miles are on my almost TEN YEAR OLD VEHICLE, and the warranty could be expired. I told him that info is for me to know and you to find out, and as I went to comment about being on the National Do Not Call List they hung up....

I no longer answer calls where the Caller ID shows Unknown Name and no telephone number. I use the telephone company *69 to find out the telephone number. I also use the internet to identify, if possible, the source and the scam being played. There was no message left on the answering machine.+

Caller asked for hubby by full name, regarding our car (had make, model, and year). When I said hubby doesn't like to talk to people when he gets home from work and asked what it was regarding, caller hung up. After researching, it looks like this is a telemarketing "extended warranty" call. Called the number back, chose option 2 to be placed on their Do Not Call list and option 3 to confirm. We'll see if that actually works.
