A few years' worth of comments from former employees, some of them far too desperate to defend their dirty jobs, can be seen in this other WCU thread:

Note that ''Settlement Dept'' and ''Specialty Dept'' were Caller ID CNAM tags LBA favored at one time. ''Consumer Settle'' would certainly fit that pattern.

Got three calls from this company today, at 1:00pm, 1:03pm and 1:04pm. Yep, 3 calls in 4 minutes. On the last call, someone named "Dwayne" said they needed a call back immediately. They marked the message as "urgent" on my voice-mail. I have also gotten calls from one of their other phone #'s, 323-429-7520 - it's the same company - called ID says "Consumer Settle". Deceptive. In any event, this company is scamming people - I urge you to read about it here:

I received a call from these folks from 323-429-7520 re an account with Magazine Services of America that I paid in full August 2007. They asked me to send proof of payment, but after speaking with my brother in law, I called back to get documentation of the debt before sending something with my bank account number. I left a message with "Danielle". The next day I got five calls from the number, all of which were hangups. Today, they called from 800-258-6587 and told me they can't send documentation unless I intend to make a settlement agreement. I said I'm not settling anything because it is paid in full. So they will send it to MSA as a refusal to pay. I'm fine with that because I paid it. They then accused me of "taking this in a negative direction" and losing my chance at a settlement and that I should address my attitude elsewhere. Well, what kind of attitude am I supposed to have?!?
