Caller hung up and left no message. Please remove my number from your calling group. we are on the DO NOT CALL LIST
No message was left. We are on the do not call list and have no business relationships with any newspaper.
If you call the # back, it gives you the options to have your phone # removed. It's option 3,1,1 and it says your # will be removed in 48 hours. Guess we'll see...
I am on the Do Not Call list but they call anyway, 9:29 A.M. Dec. 21 2012

I am on the DNC list but seem to be getting lots of calls from NEWS. Please stop.
I have received calls from this number a hundred times.. always hangs up when I answer. I am at a Parkinsons patients home and this is very upsetting to her. PLEASE STOP.
Dave, please .... it's not reasonable to place an automatic gag order on every business after each inquiry or transaction. We have to allow for honest businesses to use EBR responsibly or else no one can ever use the phone for a commercial purpose ever again. The idea of preventing competitive disadvantage is part of every law which seeks to give us control of an industry's consent to call us.
If you think your sales call traffic is unaffected by DNC registration, try dropping it for a few months and watch the calls spike. You can't look at DNC as a cure-all but part of a strategy which includes a concept of defensive disclosure of your private data. If you are consistently stingy with those data there are fewer chances for list compilers and data harvesters to pass them around in the first place.

You know, I don't really give a shit if these calls are permitted because I made the mistake of having an "established business relationship" with some sleazy-ass company that has so little respect for its customers that it is willing to have some robot harass them daily on a telephone that those customers buy for their own personal use. The fact that they can't be sent to prison for it does not make it an ethical or responsible business practice. And the reason the government permits this calls to people on the DNC list has nothing to do with what's right or what benefits the public. It has only to do with the fact that the telemarketing and telecom lobbies lined the pockets of enough government officials to get it written that way. I get as many calls now as I used to before the DNC list was created. This just another way government helps businesses nail you to the floor so they can force feed you a sales pitch whether you want it or not. When this happens in other countries, it's called corruption. Here it's called serving your constituents.
Linda, you have an ''established business relationship'' (EBR) with that newspaper publisher, and therefore also with any affiliates it uses to recapture lapsed subscribers. That overrides your DNC registration, as the FTC tried to tell you when you listed.
Q&A: The National Do Not Call Registry
Also, your name is not registered or even collected by the DNC site. Just phone numbers and email addresses.
What many don't realize is that EBR can be overcome. Under the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) you can revoke call permission anytime, whether you're still a paying customer or not.
Absent any instruction or transaction from you, call permission expires eighteen months after your final payment if you discontinue doing business. The TSR helps you here as well with sales calls begging you to return.
In the case of service provider upsells, the calls could be from a disguised third party as easily as the provider. Both are commercial entities and neither are exempt from maintaining an internal no-call list. For stubborn types I would recommend making your protest via USPS Certified with return card.
Very stupid companies failing to honor such a proven request can be sued by the FTC and state officials. We citizens share that right of action, but for a private suit it's limited to a minimum of ''$50,000 or more in actual damages''. That's a lot of ''pain and suffering'' to have to prove in court.

In April, 2012, I subscribed to my local newspaper and did not renew when my subscription ended on July 31. Since then, I have been receiving numerous phone calls from "NEWS". When I subscribed to my local paper, I entered my home phone number on the subscription form, so I believe this is how my number entered the "NEWS" data base. As soon as my subscription ended, "NEWS" began calling. My name is on the NDNC list and I will file a complaint.
I get a call once sometimes twice Per Day.... Never a message
Called twice did not leave a message. Caller ID said "NEWS". Want them to stop. Going to try looking up Pisa Group and requesting they take my name off their list.
News paper marketing company
17 Jan 2012 -- 3:52 pm -- Caller ID said "NEWS". No message was left. Multiple calls from this number, sometimes several a day. We never answer.
Called me once a day..annoying
Who is The Pisa group and why do they keep calling my cell phone? I do not want these calls.
Doreen Varner Aug 25th, 2011
They never leave a message, but call every day in the evening (usually around 7:30)
i just moved here and got this number and I am getting phone calls from this number constantly!! every day several times a day. It hangs up when my answering maching message comes on.
2 Feb 2011 -- 11:29 am -- no message was left.
24 Jan 2011 -- 12:24 pm -- No message left. Frequent calls from this number.
newspaper calls, this number is now blocked.
I need u to remove me from ur list!!!!
sandra mendoza Jan 09th, 2011
I looked them up on their website and called them at 314-845-2825
. The guy said he would take my number off their list. Was very nice about it.
I've continued to get calls from this number. Fortunately, with the information provided by many of you, it's been verified that the number belongs to The Pisa Group. This is a legitimate call center, concentrating on selling newspaper subscriptions. I went to their website and drilled down to contact us. Emailed their corporate office respectfully requesting them to remove my number. I think that should work.
So I saw a post with someone's suggestion to call 314-845-2825
. The guy asked me if I'd ever called THEM to tell THEM to put me on THEIR DNC list. I informed him I didn't have to because they are obligated by law NOT to call anyone on the NDNC list and I've been documenting their calls and reporting them. I also explained I am a consumer reporter (which I am) and that I find myself living in the news story. What could he do to ensure their company would not break the law again?
I WOULD NOT WASTE MY TIME CALLING LONG DISTANCE. FILE A NDNC COMPLAINT. I called fishing for a story to help everyone. My long dx can be written off. Go to:
https://www.donotcall.gov and file your complaints. The more they get the more PISA will be fined for not purchasing and following the list. THAT is how you stop them
TVReporter Nov 12th, 2010
28 Oct 2010 -- 7:59 pm -- frequent calls from this number. never any message.
I have worked for the Pisa Group. It is the worse job anyone can have, constant harrassement by the managers. If you do not pitch the people at least 3 times, you will be wrote up. You must continue to call the numbers that are provided. Trust me when i say, we do not want to harrass you but if we dont, we will be terminated. It is a job, the lowest paid job I have ever had and the most stressing job as well. We are told to push the newspaper subscriptions across the United States until we take more than 3 no's from the customer, if they do decide to buy the paper, we then push to get their credit card number. When they pay in advance, the newspaper will continue their subscription after the time at a much higher rate. All of it is very very shady.
21 Oct 2010 -- 8:57 am -- no message left. several calls from this number. never any message.
They call my cell phone (I don't know how they got it), let it ring once or twice, then hang up. When I call back, I got a recorded message saying they represent an offer for my local newspaper (314 is a St. Louis area code; I live in Memphis), and they are sorry they can't take my call, but please leave a message. When I am forwarded to the voice mail, it is always full.
Deborah Freeman Oct 04th, 2010
I have been getting this call once a day for the last 2weeks. I answered it 2times and just ignore it now. The number they are calling is my cell phone, wish I am able to tell them to stop and I am not interested.
I called the number that Tony gave and they agreed that it would be removed within 24 hours. If not, I WILL take it further. This is so bothersome!
Found out what I needed to know from the comments below. Thank You.
NOTE to Everyone:
All you have to do is call:
and tell them to stop calling you and they will remove your number from their list.
Report them here: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
Same complaints as below, it's Saturday morning, no one is on the line, I'm on the DNC registry. Thanks for the information folks have provided below.
Called and leave no message. When I called back no one answered. Please take me off your call list.
My caller id says 'Missouri' when it calls which is about twice a day everyday including nights and weekends. So, I called it back..it says 'you have reached 314-963-8895 and we represent your local newspaper with some great offers'. So, I reported it.
JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE I KEEP GETTING THESE PHONE CALLS FROM SOMETHING THAT COMES UP ON THE CALLER ID AS "NEWS". WHEN I CALLED THE NUMBER BACK IT STATES IT IS LOCAL NEW PAPER. IT ALSO STATES TO LEAVE A MESSAGE BUT THE BOX IS FULL. THANKS TO A LADY BY THE NAME OF CAROL ON THIS WEBSITE SHE FOUND ANOTHER NUMBER TO REACH THEM AT. THE PHONE NUMBER IS 314-845-2825
. YOU ACTUALLY GET A PERSON. I REQUESTED THEY TAKE MY NUMBER OFF THE LIST FOR CALLING. SHE STATED IT TAKES 24 HOURS. ACTUALLY IT DOES NOT. CONSIDERING MY PHONE NUMBER IS LISTED ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST FOR THE PAST YEAR, I COULD FILE ON THEM THE NEXT TIME THE PHONE RINGS WITH THEIR NUMBER. ONCE I TOLD HER THAT SHE AGREED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DONE AT THAT MOMENT. PUSH FOR WHAT YOU NEED. THEY ARE IN THE WRONG AND THEY KNOW IT. THANKS AGAIN CAROL'S POSTIN ON 12/17/09. IT WORKED WONDERFULLY.JUST TO UPDATE THE INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE THE NUMBER TO CALL AND GET A PERSON IS 314-845-2825
Literally hundreds of calls to my cell phone, usually 6 per day. Finally registered my cell number on the do not call gov list, waited 1 week and finally answered their call. Yes, they're pitching newspapers based on where they think you live. Told them to check the do not call list. One more call and I report them.
These calls are very annoying they call up to four times a day early morning and late evening...my mom is in the other room in hospice care dying of cancer and things are busy with nurses..chaplains..i am a single mom and also social workers family friends and support groups..in between distribution of meds and caregiving i have to find time for sleep and these people continue to call and call and call and on a daily basis!
Called the 1-314-845-2825
number as suggested by Carol since i didn't know how old the posting is i thought that they might be tipped off to the whole Brian Johnson thing so I simply asked the person who answered the phone to remove my number from their list. she was polite and told me that it could take up to 72 hours so if i received any calls within that time to please disregard.
I answered the call immediately, but no response. When I called back, got a recording that they were representing my newspaper with a special offer. It said I could leave a message, but the voice mailbox was full. No surprise- we are all sick of telemarketers not following the law. I filed an online FCC complaint immediately. I followed Carol's advice/phone number she gave. You reach a noisy call center. When I asked for Brian Johnston, the girl said he was on a call & offered to help. I told her they are violating the Federal No Call List & I don't want them to ever call me again. She gave me an Acct Manager, Randy. (Probably just the telemarketing rep sitting next to her!) He apologized & said he'd get me removed from the list immediately. As far as call centers go, both reps were polite, well-spoken & professional.
Note- I DID have a newspaper sub several years ago, so this is possibly a legit outsourced attempt to re-sub me, but I'm not interested.
Karen in TX Dec 01st, 2009
Carol's advice 6 messages down appears to work!
Missed a call from 314-963-8895, and looked it up. It is a land line registered to:
Matthew J Mcclure
8777 Brentwood Pl
Saint Louis, MO 63144
Mr. McClure is/was a part owner (?) of Midwest Mortgage Consultants. This firm experienced some notoriety in the case of a local (St. Louis) sports figure's bankruptcy proceedings:
If you wish to contact him by mail personally, his residence is actually here:
Matthew & Angela McClure
1158 Lockett Road
Saint Louis, MO 63131
Quite a nice piece of property he owns (in trust) actually.
keeps calling constantly finally answers to get them off my back and they say my last name and tell me they are sending me a pkg to me asap, What does that mean I dont know but I will not accept anything from some stranger or pay for anything I didnt order. So quit calling me 3 4 times a day. You are harrassing me.I will get a lawyer if I have too.
We were getting phone calls every day from PAPER. We had just cancelled our local newspaper. After researching on line, we called our local newspaper and asked them for help in getting our name off this list. Hopefully this will work.
I live in AZ. and don't know why they are calling me from FL. to subscribe to a newspaper. Very weird! It comes up Paper and I just let the machine take it. I feel, eventually they will get tired of calling.
These calls are from The Florida Today newspaper. I cancelled my subscription and they call on the average of two times a day. I have asked them repeatedly to stop calling and they continue. They always call at dinner time or when I am settling down for the night. Very annoying and persistent calls!
I have not answered any of these calls, but he is getting very annoying. He has called at least 6 times since this past Saturday. We just got this new phone number from Time Warner back on june 12th. We have never subscribed to any newspaper ever in our lives. How do they get our new number? Most of our family doesn't have this new number yet!!!!
Catherine S Jun 23rd, 2009
, and say the following:
"This is (Your Name) calling for Mr. Brian Johnston."
When the person asks you what the call is about, tell them you are calling about your newspaper subscription.
I got put through right away to Mr. Johnston.
I then proceeded to inform him that I had no interest in starting or renewing (whichever the case may be) any newspaper, including the one I used to subscribe to.
I then TOLD him, very firmly, but nicely, to remove my phone number from their list.
He promised to do so right away, but for me to allow 24 hours for the information to take effect.
If I get called again, I will let you know right away, AND I will contact the FCC.
It probably is the subscription people. I canceled my subscription to the paper here in New Orleans about 3 months ago, after having it for over 25 years. Just started getting these calls in the last two weeks. Guess I'll have to answer. I just dont read a paper anymore.
Never anyone on the other end of call. What's going on? I get a call once a day.
They are calling my cell phone. They call and hang up. I have never spoken with anyone, although they call me relentlessly.
This is a company who markets for newspapers. I just canceled my subscription and they have called my house everyday for past two weeks.
People, remember that local newspapers and companies with whom you do business or have done business are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry calling restrictions.
This is Austin American Statesman news paper subscription department.
If you had a news paper from them at any time in the past and did not renew they will call you also they will cold call telephone numbers.
At all times, 3 or 4 times a day. how to stop this abuse?
www.anywho.com Used the reverse lookup - found out the following.
Matthew J Mcclure
8777 Brentwood Pl

Maybe complaints should be sent to his house, since 314-963-8895 is registered to his address.
AnnoyedCellUser Feb 18th, 2009
314-963-8895 calls my house from 8am to as late as 10pm, no one is on the other end when answered. I asked to removed as I am on teh DNC list and they dont listen. I dont get the newspaper and I am in florida.
these guys call every day, sometimes more than once a day but never leave a message. I don't take the calls because I don't take any calls that say "private name" or "unknown caller". I also am on the do not call list
This is a Newspaper subscription service. They want to get you signed up to receive the newspaper. I suspect they deal with several newspaper agencies throughout the country. We finally answered their call the other night and told them to take our name off their calling list. They had called us at least 20 to 30 times over the last two weeks. The representative got mad and told us not to be so defensive, but told us he would remove our number, which they apparently have because we have not received a call since. We are in the Phoenix Az. area.
I dunno, they just called..
Caller ID states: PAPER
Whoever they are they did not leave a message
Annoying as they call all hours of the day and into the evening. They never leave a message on the answering machine and since I don't know who they are or what they want I won't answer the calls. I wish they would TAKE ME OFF THEIR CALLING LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This number is 314-963-8895 calling at least twice a day on my home office business line - it is getting really annoying - I have registered with the national do not call list, so hopefully this will go away when that kicks in. PLEAS DO NOT CALL!
The caller id name shows "Paper" - is this from St. Louis? when it calls there is no one at the other end. When I returned the call a recording says it is in regard to a newspaper but does not say which one and the the v-mail box is full. Sounds like a really productive operation.
Same story different person; called again and again and at a BRAND new number >:(
I have received multiple calls from this number over the past few weeks. I recieved 3 on 5/17 alone. I finally answered the call 5/19: the caller said he represented my local newspaper (AZ Republic). I told him I did not want the paper & why. They called again today, 5/20, & did not leave a message. When I called their number, I got a recording that says they represent "your local newspaper". I wanted to leave them a message to stop calling but their vm was full.
Pisa Group does marketing for local newspapers, trying to get people to renew subscriptions. If you have a relationship with your local paper (previously subscribed/advertised with them), then it does not violate DNC list. Just answer the call (or call them), ask to be removed.
I keep getting the same annoying calls. They leave no message and when I return the call no answer. I too am on the Do-Not-Call-List. Thanks to this blog I was able to contact Pisa and spoke to Manager: Mr. Brian Johnston Phone: 314-845-2825
requested that they stop calling and take my number off there list.
This is a news paper company. I asked them to stop calling and I am still on their list.
All it says on caller id is news and the number 314-963-8895.Who are they?
Receiving several calls from this number. TAKE ME OFF YOUR LIST!!!!! Not interested....
If you have not registered on the National Do Not Call Registry, do it. Then, when people like this call you can report them. I've done this with other numbers and they stop calling within 24 hours. If enough of us do this, it might get the message out.
These people have been calling my cell phone at all hours from as early as 7am to as late as midnight. This has gone on for several weeks multiple times a day. I never answer. It's beginning to feel like harassment.
Wanta stop Telemarketers....this might help - keep reading? These People are driving me nuts. It's only noon and "so far" I've received 4 calls in the last 2 days
If your telephone # is not on the Federal Trade Commission's Telemarketer registry, adding it should help stop some (possibly all) of these type calls. It's called the DO NOT CALL Registry. Register by web at: www.donotcall.gov
or by telephone at 1-888-382-1222
. It might take a few weeks for it to go into effect but once it does if Telemarketers keep calling you, you can file a complaint (Form 1088) on the Federal Communications website https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/1088bform.do. If Telemarketers call a person who's number is on the DO NOT CALL Registry, they can be fined a hefty fee. But you have to get your # added to the list and It's a FREE service. It doesn't stop collectors from calling but it should stop calls like this one because this company is calling to sell Texas Newspapers and then when you turn them down , they start trying to sell you your local newspaper.
said it was victoria advocate then hung up
I told them I'm not interested.. they keep callin'..
Birmingham Apr 16th, 2008
Called cell phone one today (4/10/08) and twice yesterday (4/9/08).
If these calls keep coming in, I'm going to take further action in some way - I get 2-3 calls a day, it just goes to fast busy after 5 seconds or so.
Trying to fish for social security numbers saying that they were reprsenting CitiBank.
I rec'd my first call from this number today. No message was left. Caller ID just says "news". I am on the "do not call" list.
4 times called, no messages left.
Gary Thompson Mar 28th, 2008
are you guys college students who filled something out a long time ago for a newspaper?
it must be a group that gets college students info if they offered to give you free newspapers for a limited time. that's the only thing i can think of at the moment. any ideas?
Idiot telemarketers!!! NWSPR from Webster Groves,Mo! Never leaves a message!
Use a whistle and blow out their eardrums. Maybe they will stop!
They keep calling 2-3 times a week, sometimes twice a day.
I have bee receiving call from 314-963-8895 since March 1, 2008 - they don't leave a message ever. But they do call more than once a day. Instead of We The People having to put our private home numbers into a No Call List (which I did and doesn't seem to work) it should be the other way around!
The Republicans have sold our Right To Privacy to BIG BIZ, along with many other rights....
Another call from this Pisa Group of Webster Grove,Mo. I just let my answering handle it! They always hang up!
This number calls several times a day but no messages

Who are these people? What do they want and why do they call at all hours?
These fools call me everyday, several times a day....never leave a message, never answer their phone, their voice mailbox is full. Thank you Houston Chronicle for selling our numbers to other companies. I'm just so pissed off right now.
This damn number always calls late at night. gonna find numbers for them and call them all the time
their answering machine says they represent the local newspaper?
ANYBODY ELSE WANT TO BACK ME ON THIS BS. LETS GET EVEN. DID I SEE UR # ON MY PHONE LAST NIGHT. CALLING 5 TO 6 TIMES IN A ROW. NEED SOMETHING OR JUST WANTED TO TALK, BUDDY...........F U......THESE NUTZ.

These people are Pisa Group (www.thepisagroup.com) who are trying to get you to subscribe to a newspaper. When they next call, ask them which paper, then call the subscription department of the newspaper and complain. Worked for me.
