This was a hangup call. Autodailers hang up after about two rings because they connect to the first person of about 20 dialed at once. Those who pick up the phone and don't connect are recorded as being home at the time of the call, so expect another call from the same organization about the same time of day within the next day or two. From the CID of this call it was obviously a charity solicitation and very possibly a scam.
When you get calls asking for charity donations you are entitled to ask the following questions -- It will be obvious by the way they answer (or don't answer) these questions whether or not they are reputable. :
1. What is your full name please? 2. What is the name of the charitable organization?. 3. Are you a representative of a commercial fundraiser? 4.If so, what is the name of the commercial fundraiser? 5. What is the principal place of business of the charitable organization? 6.(In Washington State) Can you give me the number of the Office of the Secretary of State Charities Program so I can validate your organization? (they are required by law to know and supply this number when asked - 1-800-332-4483
). 7. Where would I mail a check if I decide to make a contribution?
Legitimate organizations will take the time to answer all your questions. You are entitled to take charge of such phone calls and ask whatever you think is appropriate. Don't let telephone solicitors control you! You can control them!!!
