I would suggest that you remove my Business phone number from your data base, I am tired of the hang up phone calls.
I have a business to run and do not have time for your organization to keep tying up my phone lines.
#1, I'm NOT going to give, buy or help someone asking for money over the phone.
#2, When I buy something from the Industries of the Blind, I'm going to buy it local, not from another state.

I am on the do-not-call list. I had a call from Mobile Blind - 1-251-470-8645
Called at 04:35 PM left no message.
Who is Mobile Blind? I did not take the call and they left no message.
Message that was on my phone when I got home sounded like a heavy breather. Nothing ever said. Finally hung up.
Called at 10:39 AM left no message.
So much for the apology from the last poster. I just got a hang-up phone call from this operation. It's Good Friday, so please give this harassment a rest!!
I'm the Executive Director and I want to apologize to anyone who felt harassed by one or more phone calls from Mobile Association for the Blind. We have an automated calling system which sometimes does not work quite correctly; it hangs up when you answer or it coincidentally hangs up when you answer. It’s certainly not good for business when that happens! We are a nonprofit agency; we’ve been around since 1926 – incorporated in 1932. We are affiliated with United Way of Southwest Alabama. We gladly accept donations and also offer a line of products made or packaged in our sheltered workshop. For more than 80 years, we have trained and employed folks with vocational disabilities. We also currently employ call agents with vocational disabilities; newly trained agents who may be blind may make mistakes with their equipment and hang up on potential donors and/or customers. We do our best to train our agents to avoid technical problems, but, we know it happens sometimes. And, please know, we always want the folks we call to be happy with us. We will not tolerate any of our agents being rude. If one of our agents has been rude to you, please call us! It goes against all we are trying to accomplish in our training and in our business. If you request to be removed from our call list, you will be removed right away. If you have a problem, call us at 1-877-292-5463
or email one of our supervisors, Mr. Roberts – email@example.com. or, If he does not offer immediate satisfaction, speak with Mr. Smith or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org – We hope you will forgive our mistakes! Thank you for your patience and patronage.

Here's how Lena stops this telemarketing annoyance completely. My phone provider is a VoIP company that allows me to create filters such that only those on my "White List" can call through. All others go to voicemail. You can create a similar list through Google Voice. So all telemarketers will go to voicemail where 99% of them will not leave a message. What about important calls from numbers not on your White List, you ask. When a voicemail message is left, in addition to my phone blinking and a pulsating dial tone, I get an immediate text message on my cellphone with the number of who called. I do get all the numbers of those who try to call me on my provider's call log and that's why I come here; to check out the number to see if it is a telemarketer. But they don't ring my phone and rarely bother me with a message.
Be cautious, and do your homework. Here are some suggestions.
Reportedly this is the Mobile (Alabama) Association for the Blind. However, never trust caller ID information. I can call you and have the caller ID display on your phone say that the call came from you. In other words, CID info is meaningless when deciding who to trust. So, if you want to respond to their calls, tell them you will call them back so that you can be sure of who you are talking to. If they try to talk you out of doing that, assume the worst, and hang up.
Make sure that they are a legitimate charity, and insist on knowing how they will use your money, and what percentage of your money actually makes it to the people you are trying to help. Unfortunately, this group is not listed with Charity Navigator's web site. You might check with the AL. Sec. of State's office.
I am a little worried by the following things: A search for this group reveals a .ORG site, but the site is "under construction". I found an (apparently) unrelated web site with information about them, but it lists a .COM site for them. That site does not exist.
The number they are calling from is not particularly close to the number I found on the Internet for them, although that doesn't prove much. I also don't care for a supposedly local charity that is making cold calls all over the country. But to be fair, they may be a very legitimate operation. Just be careful, and DO NOT ever give your money, credit card #, checking account #, etc., to anyone who has called you. Nor should you let them give you the number to call back on. Hang up, call information, and get the number from them. Don't assume that web sites are legitimate either. Be careful out there boys and girls, the days of trusting strangers are just a distant memory from another era.
Note to "NC person" - My goal is not to bash you, but your post makes no sense, and shows a complete lack of understanding of our legal system (among other things). Please calm down a little, and read some of the many excellent web sites on consumer law. That way, you can shed light on things, instead of spewing forth smoke and sparks. Remember, deep breath in, purse your lips, and exhale through your mouth slowly. Repeat until urge to post incoherent rants subsides. Once calm, educate and arm yourself to help battle the bad guys. And in this case, I am not sure that these are bad guys (although I certainly don't rule that out, either).

This is criminal. These people need to stop calling everyone around the United States. The telephone company for this phone number needs to file a class action suit for harassment! Please contact the U.S. Attorney's office for the state with this phone number or I will.
The male on the line identified that he was calling on behalf of the Association for the Blind. When my husband told him that his wife was on the line and would talk with him, the man hung up on us. Very rude. It appears that if the Assoc for the Blind was trying to solicit sales or donations, they would hire a more reputable firm to do their calling. I am on the National Do Not Call list and yet they still call.
Thank You for your posts. This site is awesome. I have been up 2 nights in a row with very sick kids & when they are sleeping I try to nap & starting at 8am Central every 45min they call & I get to the phone & no one! I let the machine pick it up & No one - how irritating. By the way aren't we all hurting in this economy?! The name Don Gillepsi has been a name on those bogus emails too. The ones where you are supposed to send money to claim money SCAM. By the way THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR POSTINGS. Its great to have a site to find out, report & stick together.

Called at 9:30 am they didn't leave a message.
Had our number removed ... I feel for the person having to pick up every time!!!
They call ... we answer ... they don't talk ... we hang up.
It's a game we play every day!
Why not save the cash and after 3 tries, stop calling!
Very happy to call 1-877-29BLIND (thanks to Amy's post!) and told Vee to take my number off their list. Hopefully this will get them off my back!
When I politely refused to receive any items from this organization, they proceeded to harrass me with fax calls to my home. That annoying screeching that calls back every couple of minutes.. unbelievable!!
Got a call from this number and answered, the guy on the phone said that they blind people working for them to make money. It sounded fishy though because he kept trying to make it sound like such a sob story. Telling me it was so sad they had to layoff 75 blind people last month because they don't have enough work for the poor blind people. And that they make trash bags and mops and will I let them send me some trash bags a couple mops to help keep the poor blind people working. Now I am all about charity an dhelping others - but he was just laying the guilt on thick so I didnt believe him and just felt like something was fishy because of the way he spoke - he sounded like a very slick salesperson who knew what he was doing, and I didnt feel like he was honestly concerned about helping the blind but was more interested in making the sale.
Call 1-877-29BLIND and the calls should stop. The lady I spoke with was "Kim".
I was very nice in my previous post about calling this person a "gentleman" and listened to their request. They have called EIGHT times this morning, left a brief message and repeat. It's not even 1:00 in the afternoon.
Rude, deceptive man claimed his name was "Don Gillespie." Said he wasn't selling anything, but he was selling a bunch of overpriced crap. He claimed they were exempt from the Do-Not-Call list.
Reported the call to FTC, even though that doesn't help.
They are calling several times a week. They are either trying to sell something or wanting a donation.
They call every day and hang up on me when I answer.
Calls come EVERY day begining at 9:00 AM and adding 1 hour later interval each day. Hangs up on 3rd ring.
Don't know who they are I just hang up on them...
