Just for fun, if you are working or living in an environment that you could do this in, answer the phone whenever a suspected telemarketer is on the line. If you hear a real human voice and they start their shpeel, hold a gas charged air-horn to the phone & blast them for a second or two! You can get them from amazon.com for as little as $7.00 for the 1.4oz can or under $30.00 for the 8oz which will last a very long time if used in short bursts. Refill 8oz cans are about $16.00. Free Shipping often available on orders over $25.00!

Even if it's a recording, wait and see if a human takes over the call or if there is an option for them to start recording you, then blast them!

Don't get mad, GET REVENGE!

Voicemail was 1 sec. Called back. Automated reception told me to press 1 to be opted out of future calls. Not knowing who called, I waited. After 30 seconds another message played: if you wish to speak to a live operator, please dial 616-555-1234. Obviously a fake number. Hung up.

you dummies. i work there. it's not a scam, you guys just don't do the entire process. I've even read ppl talking about the wrong website! also you guys should inform yourself. I don't think the "national dnc list" matters with surveys, and opinion polls. back in the day that's how they predicted the presidents, through polls by phone. and the ppl paranoid as hell omg your information is even in a phone book for the whole nation to see!! and that phone book even gives an address!! by the way all you guys saying "oh im gona get a lawyer blah blah" some of u don't even stay on the phone to be transferred to the do not call list, so really its not our fault. that shows that u guys really just don't want to be on it. another thing, we haven't been shut down!

I had two "no message" calls on my answering machine today from 231-224-2050. Disconnected showed up on the caller ID. I called the number and received an option to have my number removed which I chose. However, the company name was number identified. I just got a message saying I've reached the cumstomer service section. I'm also on the Do Not Call list and have been for a while. Even if this company is legit, they should still be honoring that list.

They called my cell number. Idiots. Caller ID showed +012312242050. Something along the lines of a "lower my interest rate on my credit card to XXX%. Consider this your last notice. Press 1 to talk to an operator blah blah blah" Then it just disconnected as I sat there. Idiots and scam marketers. Now that I know who they are, I will be filing a report with the FTC, etc. Thanks for the cash, idiots.

You people who supposedly worked for "DISCONNECTED" or CTC marketing...you need to get a life where you help people rather than bother them. IT IS A SCAM!!!! If you don't list your company name and people get abused when they want to have their number removed...that's a bad sign. If it bothers you to be cursed at...do something else! I don't curse at regular sales folks when they call. I do get upset when I politely ask to have my name removed and I get a smart ass response.

I work for answer solutions as well. It is mosst deff not a scam. We work very hard at what we do and it is a lot of repetitive work. All you immature people saying fuck you and my name is hairy balls, its not cute, or funny. You just make yourselves look dumb. We are giving you an opportunity to get you away and get you on vacation which is a wonderful opportunity since no one can afford to. If you want to be put onto our do not call list, you have to actually sit on the line and be transferred to the do not call list and then type in the number you do not want called. We can not do it for you. Stop complaining and do it yourselves if you do not want to be contacted!

I work FOR answer solutions... for the record we have absolutely no control over who gets called. On our end the phone actually rings and we answer the line... we are technically considered an 'inbound' call center. Anyways, hearing on the daily to "go die" to "F*** off" etc. is very rude and inappropriate, especially from those of you that are supposed to be considered and treated as grown men and women. The economy is going down the toilet and the people that work here are just trying to get by like everyone else. We are by no means a SCAM. I have actually been on the cruise myself to check it out and its very nice... Next time you get a call and don't want to receive the free passes and never want to be called again, instead of cursing raising your voice or making up a false name like "Ben Dover" "Mike Hunt" or "Barack Obama" maybe you should be an adult and let us know you would like to be removed from the list. We then can transfer you to be removed, it's a quick, painless process... I promise you that just cursing and then hanging up on us will only cause more phone calls your way because you wont be taken off any lists until you have been transfered. You act like were the heartless because we wake you up at one in the afternoon or god forbid interrupt your meal, etc... were doing OUR JOB... by you acting the way you do, I have no hope left for America. United we stand divided we fall I suppose... Have a good night everyone.

I have received about 10 calls from this "company" on our home phone, plus on my husband's and my cell phones (I never give my cell # out so I don't know how they got the number). I'm on the Canada do not call list and have filed a complaint thru them, but just got another call. I have never answered the questions and know it's a scam, but how do I get them to stop calling????? - it's driving me crazy!, You can never get through to s live operator unless you answer the Q's.

just recieved another call 000-000-0000 lovely how simplistic those numbers r LOL same garbage u have won 2 passes/cruise to bahamas, actually talked to a real person, asked for address n company name just in case had to talk to someone at later time, they said SouthEast U.S. said company name was Answering Solutions. They wouldn't give street address and then hung up LOL. Called Answering Solutions which is legit, but they do no such thing. Scammers b aware not everyone is as stupid to not check their accreditations. These scammers have just used a reputable companies name. I hope between CRTC and the U.S. equivalent they can nail these scammers to the wall for good.

These bastards are targeting Canada now, too, and using various different phone numbers, all of which originate from mobile phones, in various states, including Hawaii 808-372-6602), Georgia 404-798-9983), and Michigan (231-224-2050).

I have just filed a complaint with the FTC (file #20768839).

Someone uncovered the company's REAL details, and thoughtfully posted them on his blog. I am posting them here, so that others can file FTC complaints about the company and bring it to justice.

COMMENT PART 3 (END): Some folks also said they are seeing this number as a OUTGOING number on their phones and others replied that the weird "press button X" sequence might somehow open their phone up to some kind of long distance call forwarding or such (I have no idea if this is possible, some say yes, some say no). Any way you look at it my decision will be to just report it to the FTC/DNClist folks and NOT answer any questions from this (or any 231 area) number. You make your own decision.
Just A Guy
 May 11th, 2008
COMMENT PART 2: Based on various comments here and elsewhere this appears to possibly be some kind of scam -- best guess might be phone number harvesting for selling to other telemarketers (not asking anything to use for ID theft as far as I can tell, but could be that too maybe). Because there are several different names associated with the callerid (CTC Marketting, Madriz, Merle Norman, United Public Opinion Group, etc) it leaves me to suspect this is possibly a "spoofed" (faked) callerid. Also, this number-block was (is?) owned by Guardian Communications which was blasted by the FTC a couple years ago for serious telemarketing rules violations.

COMMENT PART 1: Got a call from these folks (CID="Out Of Area"), left no msg. According to a simple Google search this is one of the weirdest phonelines I have ever read about. Seems (if reports are accurate) they represent dozens of different purposes including travel, credit card offers, burglar alarms, gambling, political calls, Jewish holidays and marketing surveys. One person even reported getting some questions that sounded like a prelude to some kind of kinky phone sex (something like "Are your toenails painted right now?").

Got a call from this number that said "unknown name" on my caller id. I normally don't pick up those types of calls, but this had a area code from within my state, so I picked it up. I said "hello" twice and the line went dead. Reading the rest of these comments, I'm glad it did.

I've received several calls from these people in the last few months. Each time, I have informed them that I am on the national do not call list (renewed), and to please take me off of their list. I've even asked to be transferred to a supervisor, only to be disconnected after holding for several minutes (once while the phone was live and I could hear operators laughing about it in the background). This company needs to be shut down, PERIOD.

Just got a call about 20 minutes ago. Man's recorded voice stated he was "my captain" and I could win 2 free tickets to a cruise in the Bahamas if I answered 10 question survey. I was curious so I answered the questions. Questions such as..what type of tv do you own? does your vehicle have an extended warranty? do I have dsl, cable, or dial-up? Do i prefer to pay by check, debit, or credit? what age group am I? Do I have diabetes?...etc. Then it said to stay on the line for approx 10 seconds (it was more like 4). An operator took "the name I would like on the boarding passes" (1 name for 2 passes??? hm..), my home phone, and my zip code. (I live in Kentucky) She then said within 72 hours I would be contacted with more information regarding "my cruise". Really don't expect a call back. Hope I didn't give them too much information. Off to call the authorities right now...

i just received this call about 20mins ago it started with a ships horn blowing followed by a voice saying that i could get 2 free tickets for a cruise in the bahamas just by answering a few questions and it would only take 1 min to do, so i did it just pressing any key in the hopes i would get a live person to speak to, which after several questions i did in fact get a real person. she proceeded in a very hastilly manner to ask for the name that i wanted to appear on my boarding passes, i just said to her "before i do can you please tell me what this is all about because i dont understand what this is for ???? " and she hung up, now please excuse my french but "HOW F@#$%&G RUDE" i was furious thats how i found this wonderful site so glad i decided to act on this one, i looked up where the number comes from it said that it was a wireless caller from ATLANTA GA or possibly carolina ??? the number that appeared on my phone was = 1-404-849-2958 and i live in ny state. A BIG THANK YOU TO WHO EVER IS RESPONSABLE FOR THIS SITE :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have called on both of my phone lines, telling me my car warranty is expired. we "talk" to someone, but they hang up when it gets heated. when you register on a Do Not Call list, it takes 31 days to be "official". Unfortunately you'll get the calls once a day (at least) for the next 30 1/2 days.... you'll never be able to stop them, unfortunately... 2 cheers for technological advancement!!!

Without my reading glasses on, I picked up the phone, thinking it was displaying the name of a friend. What I got was a fairly lengthy happy Rosh Hoshanna message from messianic Bible society, or something like that. Then the recorded message auto hung up.

Is this some kind of new scam whereby any crowd can funnel their pitch through a single tele number?

 Sep 13th, 2007
Sounds like they expanded their offerings from giving away cruises to worrying about the warranty running out on my vehicle. I was going to play with them a little to waste their phone time and money but by the time I got a piece of paper and a writing stick the call disconnected. Darn!

Thanks to information from one of the other people in this list it looks like this may have been a company by the name of United Public Opinion Group located in Maryland. I am in the process of sending an email to the Michigan Attorney Generals office to give them a heads-up on the phone call. Unfortunately I have another 3 days to wait before I can report them to the FTC for violation of the do-not-call list.

Hey folks, if you want the low-down on this scam, see the post from the Real Deal dated 4/18/07. This is nothing more than a phone-phishing/timeshare scam. If you do actually call to take advantage of the cruise, expect to be told that all the lower-rate rooms are booked and that you need to upgrade to a nicer room. These folks need to read Rev. 21:8 to see what God's Word has to say about liars.

Call from TMIC (231-224-2050). Message on answering machine began "we are trying to reach you" with no reference to our name. Claimed that warranty on our "automobile" (no reference to make) was expiring, and that we should have gotten a postcard alerting us to the situation. We have received no such mailing, and we have no warranty on our automobile. We apparently lost the chance to renew our "warranty" because we didn't call back by 7 p.m. Haha. At the end of the message, the guy says that if we recently got a new vehicle or no longer own the one in question, we should disregard the call. Total scam.

11 yo son answered andhung up after a few seconds, said it was a recording. The people that used to have this number apparently had horrible credit and we still get occasional collection calls for them after 3 years. I have a feeling they still use this number on their applications. I don't doubt this is either related to bill collections-to see who actually lives here since you won't lie about who you are to get free stuff, or some other scam.

i got the call and was bored at work so i went through with it. no credit card info or anything other than phone and address. i don't mind junk mail, as long as it's recyclable! lol. they only have one complaint on the better business bureau in the last 36 months. the operator was rude, but most telemarketers are. wouldn't you be cranky sitting in a cublicle calling people who hang up on you all day? so from what i am gathering, absolutely nothing has happened to anyone who got the call, good or bad. i am an optomist, so if i end up on my cruise in the bahamas i will let you all know how it went. if i don't, well maybe i'll complain to someone.

Am in Nova Scotia, Canada. Received much the same call as have all of you. Answered ten general questions for a live female and was told the person arranging the cruise would contact me within the next 72 hrs. Was told to go to Surveycruise.com to register for the two day two nite cruise to Nassau. Cruise ship would depart from Fort Laurderdale. Did as requested and received a confirmation number. Went to site and received a virtual tour of the ship- all very impressive. Next day a message was left on my machine to say they had not received my information and would I get right to it as I only had 72 hrs to respond. Went through the whole process again and got the same story. I can't figure out this scam- return airfare from Halifax/Florida only to spend 2 days on a cruise is not something I would undertake. Am still waiting to hear if there is anything more to this present version of the "shell game." I know the sucker born every minute premise and can only hope that I am not this minute's sucker. Thank you for allowing me to voice my puzzled opinion.

Sending a complaint about this phone number to the FCC's website won't do much good. I filled out a complaint form and got a form letter back stating in part "...After reviewing your complaint, we have determined that we cannot take enforcement action in this case because, based on complaint, the caller is exempt from the Do-Not-Call rules." That, my friends and neighbors is our distinguished Government and our tax dollars at work.

Just got this call same thing as you all have reported, I followed through with the 10 questions then spoke to a real person they took my name, told me to check out www.surveycruise.com to find out more AM NOT going to the site. They also said that even if you do not have internet access they would be in touch with me within 48-72 hours to confirm name for boarding pass. ALSO , they have yet ANOTHER phone number out of Delaware it rang into my house as 302-290-5165, just a warning to you all. Also if you try to call back it says "Im sorry but the person youve called has a voice mailbox that has not been set up yet, good bye. "

I believe this is on the level. I did the 10 questions and went to the site and got my confirmation code. they were supposed to call within 72 hrs, but i didnt wait that long. I called Imperial Majesty cruise lines and they said they DID have an affiliation with this group. They gave me a direct number, I called it and got transferred 3 times but finally talked to a guy who knew what he was doing. I asked about fees, yada yada. He said there is a $59 fee per person required to the port authority to enter and leave the country which is paid up front over the phone, and a 19.95 fee per person for gratuity paid at the end of the cruise. He then told me that all of the crappy, lower level, bunk bed promotional cabins were booked about 20 minutes before my call, and said he could update me to a state room with 2 queen beds and a window for 99$, which is normally a 250$ upgrade. I told him I don't get paid until friday and he is going to call me back then. I thought the cabins being sold out 20 minutes sooner was just a trick to get me to upgrade, but overall i think it is legit, mainly because i called the cruise line (at a number directly from their site, NOT the survey site) and confirmed their legitimacy)I will let you know what happens.

Same thing here. Call came at work. I answered the Q's. Operator #2914. I called 231.224.2054 and was told that the number would only work from a cell or personal number(I am at work). I would also like to know if anywon has actually attending the cruise and what is the catch. Another state heard from...I am in Missouri.

I jsut got off the phone with them. Horn sound and all, jsut like everyone else here said, but something in my gut told me to go ahead with it for some weird reason. Answered ten questions, and they took my name and number and a message said to go to a website and log in to verify my information. If it's a scam and they try to charge me with something, I'm basically broke, and I'm on disability, so they won't get anything. I'll wait and see and try to remember to update here with what happens.

I just got off the phone, same "horn blowing.."this is your captain speaking.. from phone number: 702-465-2953 at 7:20 p.m. I answered the questions because I know my mom had signed me up for a call from someone about a free cruise.. (resort thing)thought it was them..doubt it. At the end of the questions..like "Are you a smoker?" ect. Live person came on to verify my name and zip code..I'm in Oregon state .. and I'll be "contacted in 48-72 hrs. And recieve my passes.Yeah, okay. I went to the www.surveycruise.com site the "captain" told me to and found all of these other people's comments about these calls! Thanks everyone for taking the time to post I think in the long run it will TRULY HELP!! I'm thinking of contacting the local news station..give them something to investigate..heh heh..
