I received what I felt to be an unprofessional phone call from a debt collector where I was asked to provide my social security # over the phone. The call was based on an unpaid credit card balence from 2007 which was opened by an individual who apparently tried to steal my identity. After the debt collector was convinced that is was a mistake, I requested the debt collector put in writing that their inquiry was erroraneous and was told they would not send me the letter. This is very concerning to me given that I gave them personal infomation about myself. Has my privacy been violated? Should I seek my own legal advice?
