Nearly incomprehensible caller, heavy accent, on my cell phone no less asking about "my computer." It's undoubtedly a scam for bogus services to "fix" your computer.

When I answer they say nothing. Then a few seconds later a recording says goodbye!! Someone is trying to drive me crazy as they call almost every day for the last two weeks. Three times today already. When I learn not to be as stupid as them and answer?!!!!!!!!!

Same as everyone else...caller had an Indian accent, etc. I am on the do not call list & it infuriates me that these people continue to call! (as I'm sure it does most of you) I filed a complaint a few weeks ago... and will file another one. Not sure it does any good, but maybe if enough of us file a complaint... they will stop.
 Jan 16th, 2014
Caller had an Indian accent, stated my computer was going to crash and that my computer sent messages to them. They called three times. I hung up after the first time, but they called again two more right after that. I did not answer the other two times. Thankful for caller ID! Number came up as 212-777-3456 with unknown name.

A man sounding like he was from India and speaking very poor pidgin English stated Microsoft had received malware reports from our computer and he wanted to remote-access it. We told him to email us with details and gave him our name. He never asked for an email address. Very obvious phishing attempt!

They called my son's cell phone and said they were from Microsoft, the callers name was "Michael", didn't want to give me a number to call him, but finally did. He said that I had malware on my computer and that my computer called the customer service. He got very upset with me when I wouldn't go to the computer right away, but I informed him it was Thanksgiving and I was in the middle of cooking.
 Nov 28th, 2013
Heavily accented (Indian-sounding) idiot tried telling me that I have a serious problem in my computer and I need to give him access right away. I asked him how he knew and he claimed he was a tech with Microsoft. I laughed at him and told him that was really funny because I have an Apple computer! *click*
 Nov 28th, 2013
He spoke with an Indian accent and said his name was John, which seems unlikely. He insisted that my computer had malware, but when I asked him how HE knew what was on MY computer, he glossed over it. He wanted to know if I was sitting in front of my computer, so he could show me where the malware was located. He said he represented Microsoft. He seemed panicked, I suppose to try to make me that way too and get me too do something imprudent, without thinking it through. I wonder if Microsoft knows about these guys(I assume there are multiple perps involved in this attempted fraud).
 Nov 28th, 2013
They have called SEVEN TIMES today alone--when my mom first answered they said they were calling from Microsoft about some malware on my computer. When I answered a few hours later they said nothing then called right back and said nothing again! I know it's a scam and will be blocking this number.

This was a super weird guy, heavy accent. Said he was "Tech Department" and I asked how I could help him he made frog noises in a deep voice and hung up. Very strange. I googled the number and found that these calls are sourced from Moviefone which I believe to be an AOL service to a scammer trying to sell an anti-virus software to some offshore dude wanting access to personal information. This has SCAM written all over it, hang up on the guy!!
 Nov 06th, 2013
Caller claimed to be from the Technical Department and was asking about my Windows PC, I asked where he is from and he claimed to be from the SIerra Vista Technical department. THe Area Code for Sierra Vista is 520, 212 shows to be New York City (Primarily Manhatten)

Don't know why they wont start going after people that refuse to honor the DNC list. :( What good did it do to come up with the list but they wont enforce it- so we get harressed daily by this scammers and there seems to be nothing we can do to stop them.

I received first and one call today. They identified themselves as GBM Technet and an affiliate to microsoft. They claimed my computer was downloading viruses and needed me to log onto their server / website. I wouldn't do that because if it was a valid call, it would have come from my ISP or internet provider. If one were to do as they say, they could gain access to information on your computer... i.e. identification theft!! It's a scam!
 Dec 17th, 2012

Good news- I was able to waste at least an hour of their time acting like the idiot they think I am and repeatedly asking stupid questions and finally got to talk to Mark, the manager (sounded exactly like the bozo who called.)
Please- waste their time. They even hung on while I went in the bathroom for a very loud and rude session before asking them if they sold anything for gas.

This number calls my phone about 3 times a week stating that it is the DEA from Penn. and that they are gonna send agents out to my house to arrest me for buying illegal drugs over the phone. Big deal, I didn't buy any drugs over the phone! No agents ever show up either. I've called the police on this, and they said it was all a BIG careful of calls coming in from area code 212!

Q: How do I get the Moviefone phone service to stop calling my phone number?
A: First, we want you to know that this is not the actual Moviefone phone service calling your house or mobile phone. Unfortunately, this is an instance of phone spamming: someone else illegally using our phone service to spam your line with calls. The spammer calls from his or her phone line, but enters our number (777-3456) into your caller ID so it appears that the call is coming from us. In fact, the Moviefone phone service cannot even make outbound calls. Moviefone is unable to stop this from happening, and we are extremely frustrated about the situation. To track down the person or persons initiating the calls, you must report the issue to your phone company. Your phone company will trace the call back to the phone company of the person who is originating these calls. From there, the spammer’s phone company can trace the individual phone number that is making the calls and, hopefully, trace that to an actual person.
 Feb 11th, 2011
They called me and just sighed a heavy sigh on my answering machine and there was a whole lot of back ground noise; you could tell he was calling from a public place. It is a New York number and I am from PA. I called the number back and it was a number to MovieFone. This certainly sounds like a spammer! If it was a reputable business of sorts they would leave a professional message I would think.

11 Jun 2010801-828-2353, got a phone call from them, the person on the end of the phone was Indian and reading from a script, identified himself as "Shawn", and continued to try and say I filled out an online form for a government grant, with this being the follow up call. I have repeatedly received phone calls from this organization, always Indian callers, always the same script. The previous phone number that I was receiving calls from was 212-777-3456, which when I called it back, discovered it was the MovieFone hotline. The '801' number if you call, rings once, then you get a busy signal. This organization does not identify who they are, and when you start to question them, they hang up immediately, then will usually call back within an hour, with the same script as before, with no idea they called you prior. I had the same operator call me twice within 2 hours. I asked for a phone number, they refused. Initially the call came up as international, they lied and said it was from Utah. This is a scam from all accounts, where I read they try and get you to pay a fee to receive the said grant. I have tried repeatedly to report these people.Caller: unknown Government Grant company
Call Type: Telemarketer

10 Jul 2010Received a messgae from these people also from this number because they said that they saw that I was searching for a government grant. You can only get a government grant from the governement thru
.gov websites, just make sure they are legite.
This persons name was Roger Williams and he wanted my debit card number so I could pay $1.87 for the postage so they could send me the packet to apply for a grant. I would not give it to them. When I tried to call back all I got was a constance ring and no voicemail. If you ever call any Governement, State, Federal or City office they always have a answering machine telling you they are closed and call back RIGHT? That should help the light bulb come on upstairs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The number was 1-801-828-2353 Ext 316 which just rang and rang when I tried to call back. If you ever get ahold of anyone ask them if they have a Federal ID # and ask for their SS# also. If they dance around that you know then they are scamming.
I work for the State of Texas and we always have voicemail on your personal businees phones letting people know who we are!! It gives you something to think about doesn't it?????????????
I hope this helped alot of you from being ripped off.!!!!!!!!!Caller: Roger WilliamsReply ! jenny replies to G Ross

18 Aug 2010This happened to me, I was interrested in the info they claim they can provide, I ignorantly paid the $1.87 and never got the info, and then 2wks later they charged $49.95 to my credit card. I disputed it, but the customer service # they gave me was bogus and so was the website they gave me.. I eventually got ahold of them, and they were rude about giving me my money back, I threatened to report them to bbb and they eventually gave it back... beware!!!!!Reply !

I am starting to get a daily calls from this same number. I have had about 10 calls. My caller ID shows it as the number and from NY. It is my business number. So every time I answer the call with my business greeting, the caller immediately hangs up. Very annoying. I will take "C''s advise and call my phone company and try to stop this. All my numbers are on the Do Not Call list...unfortunately, it can't stop these type of annoying calls.

The person was had a Spanish accent and was claiming to be representing several auto insurance companies and was looking for information to try to lower my auto insurance payment. I have gotten this call...caller ID came up as 212-777-3456, called back and it was MovieFone. The people calling claim to be from United Financial Resources, out of Salt Lake City, UTAH. The call center seems to be an Indian call center, judging by the accents I heard on the phone. They use anglicized names when you ask them their name (Andy, Andrew, etc). It is a SCAM based on them telling you that you filled an online application out for a government grant, or visited some government grant site. From what I have read, they want CC or bank info or other personal info, to take care of some 'fee' to free up the grant for you. Obviously don't give this info out. Lately they have called from an incomplete number, 1 300 367 890, and I have reported that number as well. I have taken to playing along lately to try and fish info on them from the operators, which when they figure this out, they are either belligerent to you or they hang up, only to call back later. They are not listed as a legit business, and don't adhere to the DNC laws, so you will get calls well after 9pm. If you block their number, they come back with a new number. I think the way to beat them is to find out what we know about this scam and outfit, post what we can on forums like this, and report what we can to the FTC and FCC.

I have received repeated calls from someone with a very heavy middle eastern accent (I believe he says his name is Brian Parker - sounds very American - undoubtedly ficticious). He is also associated with phone numbers 212-777-3456, 425-606-3786, and 866-582-5208 x 30451. He has threatened me telling me that he has a criminal case against me on his desk and that if I do not return his call within 5 minutes, he will have me arrested at my work within the hour (Hint: I am not currently working). He is very rude, nasty, and threatening. I want to know who and how to file a complaint legally against this person.

They call me on a monthly basis. They will call 6 or 7 times a day for a few days in a row then stop. Then pick it back up in about a week. I don't want anything from them and I have NOTHING to offer them. They need to stop. ATT only allows 5 numbers on your do not call list (it's really for your kids) and mine is full, plus they just change a digit or two and get through again. I believe ALL cell phone companies should offer unlimited do not call list, just like you can block as many email addresses as you want, why not the same for you cell phone, especially when the cell companies charge by the minute.I think everyone who gets these calls should write, don't call, their cell phone companies and ask that we be allowed to block unlimited numbers. Sure they will charge a few for it, but to me it would be worth it. Well as long as it wasn't 50 bucks.
