To add to my previous message, you may want to ask for the IP Relay Customer Service number and see what they can do to help you block IP Relay calls. If you do not want a relay call, simply hang up and continue hanging up when you receive them!

This is one of the phone numbers to a server used by Verizon IP Relay. Anyone who has your phone number COULD call you using the relay system. Relay is a federally mandated system intended to facilitate communication between deaf and hearing people on the phone. Years ago deaf people accessed the relay using a TTY but nowadays relay companies have created IP Relay websites and even AIM buddies for the public to use on the internet. The system is exploited by teenagers and other immature people to anonymously prank call their friends, enemies, etc.
It is also exploited by scammers mostly in W. Africa to contact small businesses and people who are selling things thru want-ads, Craigslist, etc. The scammers try to pass fake checks, money orders, or Western Union payments and get "overpayments" sent back to them. They'll ask for your email address and then try to engage you in the scam. Be very skeptical and if the email seems at all weird DO NOT COMPLY! Businesses are supposed to take relay calls because it would be discrimination to not do so, however, they do not have to comply with scammers' requests!
As a heads up relay operators are required by the FCC to relay the call verbatim. They can't censor or prevent the call from happening or they would be fired. They HONESTLY have no information about the content of the call or who is calling. Please do not get hostile towards the relay operator. If you do not want the relay call, simply hang up and continue hanging up when you receive them!
