My Caller ID keeps showing a call from A I C R (Association for International Cancer Research)
No message is left, but when I call the # back 202-461-3474, I get a recorded message, which says
the Association for International Cancer Research, called me & they will try again later.
I have a "BLOCKED" phone #, so can anyone tell me how some organizations are able to call me?

Get calls every day several times a day from 202 area code so I finally answered and they asked for Jerry Wells. I said wrong number and immediately hung up before they could ask for anything else or any other info. I have blocked these 202 numbers over and over but they continue to change a few digits to get through. How can they have so many dang numbers? So annoying!

They have been calling me every day at any hour of the day and night for the past TWO MONTHS, but no one is ever on the phone. It is AICR and they use dozens of different phone numbers, and the caller ID is always AICR. They are a fraud organization out to take your money, which will never go to cancer research. It is all over the Internet about them.

Today someone from AICR was on the phonE asking for money. This is the first time anyone has ever answered the phone after they have called me. I yelled at the woman to stop calling me. She denies that AICR ever called me which is a bunch of bullshit. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and put in jail.

Caller ID for this number is AICR - a charity with a poor rating from Charity Navigator website. They keep calling and their phone in DC does not answer.

AICR is the American Institute of Cancer Research with an aggressive fund raising program. As a charity they get a one star out of a possible four star rating with the President and VP commanding salaries of over $275,000 each. For a direct link to the Charity Navigator report see http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3264

It is a legit company that makes requests for volunteers and/or donations for non profit organizations. DNC does not apply to non-profits. Stop being so paranoid, not everyone is a fraud, scam artist, or terrorist. Some people are calling and really do need to raise money or awareness for diseases, especially the incurable ones. I understand that the calls can get annoying, but answering the phone and saying "take me off the list" will stop them from calling you. Either that or help out. If you have the time to "investigate" companies like this, then you have the time to volunteer. All telemarketers or collectors are allowed to call between the hours of 8am-9pm by the way

I also gave to a much of charities and now I get all kinds of calls what a mistake you wou think that they would not sell your name because a lot of people can only give so much and that would take away at one point any chance of them getting any donations. I am also getting calls from 435-750-4933 ( information all ) 800-898-1863 ( assoc comm svc ) 202-870-5979 ( washington DC ) 248-996-1997 ( MICHIGAN )866-740-1783 ( 800 SERVICE ) AND THE LIST GOES ON

This morning was perhaps the fourth time they've called. They typically call between 8:30 and 9:30 AM and they never leave a message. None of it will get them anywhere with me, since I've never heard of them, and the word "cancer" is not the automatic ticket to legitimacy. For all we know, they're not even a bona fide charitable organization and have nothing to do with the American Cancer Society, which we at least know is legit.

The phone rang at 6:51 pm PST and I answered, nobody ever came on the other end. (Probably from a call center.) I did a reverse phone search and it came up as being from the CARRIER: Cellco Partnership DBA Verizon. I called Verizon as the owner of this number was not listed using the reverse phone search. Verizon said that the number is not one of their own numbers, nor did it appear to be one of their customers numbers. I had them put me on their (Verizon) Do Not Call list anyway, as it appeared that they weren't really sure about whether or not it was a person from Verizon possibly calling, or one of their customers. I may try calling the number directly, to see if they answer with any of the names given by others reporting on this number above. Hopefully, they will not call attempt to call back again, but I plan on adding their name to numbers that my phone service will reject for me.

At 6:31pm on Friday, July 3, 2009, our landline rang 3 times at.
When my spouse picked up and said hello, the AICR had already disconnected, so we don't know what the call was really about.
I did a Google search of "AICR" and found that it is supposedly the American Institute for Cancer Reasearch.
There main contact information from the AICR website appears below, but 202-870-5979 is NOT listed there.
A "reverse lookup" only indicates the telephone number is from Washington D.C.

AICR Main Contact Information from their website:

American Institute for Cancer Research
1759 R Street NW
Washington DC 20009
Telephone: 1-800-843-8114 202-328-7744 in D.C.)

called the number back it was for cancer research. The do not call list doesn't apply to charities if you want your name off the list you have to ask. This would be a lot easier if you could ever talk to a person!

Most annoying to have them keep calling us and not replying to our answering of the phone, especially when we have a disabled person needing rest here. Maybe they will 'donate' something to this Vietnam Vet who is in need...

This is the American Cancer Society calling to ask you to solicit donations from your neighbors via mail. The government's Do Not Call list does not apply to charities so you must tell the telemarketer to remove your phone number.
