It was a nice young lady in the public information office of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation. She had called to let me know that 22nd Street NW between C Street and Constitution Avenue NW would be closed during the day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and that I should plan my travels accordingly. I thanked her for letting me know. I also told her that I had not been in Washington DC since 1964 when my dear aunt (now deceased) invited me for a week's visit to her home in Frederick, MD and we took a day trip to see the sites of the capital, and that I had no plans to visit anytime in the near future. I do remember in particular that section of 22nd Street NW because there were many lovely flowering trees planted in the verges. I did, indeed, write a letter soon thereafter to the then Board of Commissioners of the District of Columbia commenting on the beauty of those trees and how much I enjoyed seeing them. The nice young lady who called me and I decided my letter must have been filed, then at some point entered into a data base of persons interested in 22nd Street NW between C Street and Constitution Avenue NW.
