Multiple calls from this number this week. We don't answer calls when we don't recognize the caller ID.
(Other posts indicate this might be a debt collector, but since we don't a dime to anybody other than our mortgage, which is always current, I'm betting it is something else.)

Wow! a new low in deceptive caller id. (What we do without Who Called US? Love this service)
Didn't answer. How could an air quality alert from Washinton DC be relevant for Southern California?
Lung Assoc gets an F for letting this solicitation group handle things. Boo.

Could be MRS merely changed call centers or dumped old numbers associated with bad publicity. If MRS was using this number any time last year there would likely be complaints from 2010 as well. Not that such spoofing is impossible, but it's much harder since the December passage of the Truth in Caller ID Act.

Call came from Washington D.C. to Kansas at 09:27 hours CST on 2-2-2011. Call not answered, and no message left. Caller ID reflected Amer Lung Assoc.

It was interesting to read that other posters report collection activity by MRS Associates. Hmm, ducking collection laws claiming they are a non-profit? Inquiring minds want to know.

Early intel suggests these are charity calls for American Lung Assn. For years until last Spring Am-Lung had hired Akron call center InfoCision. Now they have appeared to switch to rival MDS Communications. Not sure if the deal is exclusive. The current crop of calls is about as bad as InfoCision's, with a similar style of calling repeatedly from a rotating set of numbers and often lacking any useful CID.

We've had calls for the past ten days from the following numbers which are likely on behalf of this charity: 202-367-9124, 202-367-9133, 877-288-3089, 877-815-4868, 877-815-4876

The calls from commercial fundraisers are exempt from Federal DNC under the charity status, even though such call centers are very much for-profit and pocket far too much of what these periodic campaigns collect. At times the "charity" group is itself a profit enterprise, compounding the deception. However, as a commercial entity, each commercial fundraiser is expected to honor its own no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and "the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."

Forum complaints through the end of 2009 flag this as a number for rogue debt collector MRS Associates. A call received here a week prior from cousin number 202-367-9133 carried "Amer Lung Assoc" in its CID. This would mean commercial fundraiser InfoCision has started another campaign for American Lung Assn. MRS does not have a history of spoofing that I know of, possibly the number was reassigned. More evidence is needed to be certain.

They also call from 202-367-9124 and 757-209-2045 and 410-968-7980 and 202-607-2543 and 434-533-9007. That is 5 different numbers but all coming across as MRS. They are a horrible company and should be shut down. They can harrass innocent people for months on end all day long. They don't care that they have a wrong number. They don't believe you're not who they're looking for...Wish they could be stopped.
