I'm glad you saw through the bluffing threats, Rose. The collector is seriously violating your Federal rights. ARS is another trashy agency from California. The fright tactics you describe are like those of the fake payday loan thugs.

If you are receiving misdirected or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov.

I've received calls before from this number, always claiming that they have a civil or legal claim against my name, located at my address. They say that the sheriff has contacted them- such BS, but they make it sound official and threatening and say that have a lawyer appointed for me. I can just imagine what sort of questions that 'lawyer' would ask, probably want to start with some billing and personal information.

I called the number back and just asked them who they were. They told me ARS Services. After looking that up on the internet, it says they are a collection agency.

I have no idea who this is. They didn't leave a message and I won't call long distance numbers back.

I received a call from this phone number 201-297-4205 but the voice message was cut-off. I was able to make out the last part which said to call back to further discuss the matter. I think that I have received calls from this number in the past but they ask for someone else and I have told them that they have the wrong number.
