Jul 25th, 2014This caller extort $3,000 from my elderly father yesterday morning by representing himself as grandson. Elaborate story of DUI/3rd party vehicle damage, in court in Los Vegas with public defender, not charged with DUI but needing money immediately to pay 3rd party for car damage. Second perp representing himself as the "Attorney" parroted same story, and requested my father purchase green dot MoneyPak cards which my father did and gave to them. They called back today saying that the car was impounded and he needed another $1800 to get the car and his stuff out. I will be reporting this to the FBI internet Fraud division.
This caller attempted to extort $4,000 from my elderly father in law this morning by representing himself as grandson. Elaborate story of DUI/3rd party vehicle damage, in court in Los Angeles with public defender, not charged with DUI but needing money immediately to pay 3rd party for car damage. Second perp representing himself as the "Attorney" parroted same story, and requested a credit card number or wire transfer. My FIL stated he would contact his grandson's parents to check out story, call abruptly ended. This number cannot be reached by cell or landline, leading me to believe it is tied to an IP number somehow. Clear attempt at "Grandparent Fraud", and fortunately my FIL was too sharp to fall for it. Reported it to FBI internet fraud division and I suggest you do too.
