i worked at this place....
it is a real place in uk.
data protection act is stupid, it should rather ask to confirm the last 4 digits of the mobile number.
i hated asking for first line of address and post code.

it is not a scam, there really is such a place and you can even go into the office and see the place for yourselves.
it is merely a stupid security question that puts people in a tough spot.

oh and also the reason people ask for your details is for the data protection act and if they dont ask for this, they personally are liable for a massive fine, i mean come on, they ask for address, they could get that out of the phone book if they really need it.

This is an o2 number, i 100% guarentee you, they phone you either at the beginning of your contract to Welcome you to the network, make sure everything is ok, yes some of the call includes selling products but they are only products that may benefit you, during your contract, again as a courtesy call to make sure things are running smoothly and to see if there is a better deal available for you with your tariff, Or at the end of your contract in regards to giving you a handset upgrade to renew your contract,

Some of the things im reading on here make me laugh, "its a scam" bla bla, most people probably didnt even listen to the caller to see what it was about as 90% of people hang up these calls within the first 20 seconds, everybody has a job to do, cant you just respect that this is theirs.

I've called O2 and they have said it is actually thier number from the sales team. I'm sick of thier calls this is highly unprofessional, and that message you get when you try and call back is pathetic!

I am with many of the others on this page get called by this number a few times a day and have done for a while, called it back from another line only to have recorded message saying sorry we missed you.

I don't answer unknown numbers as I figure if it was important a message would be left.

My contract is not new, and the number i am using is 4 years old, so why are these wankers trying to call me?

Keep getting calls from this number - figured it was a scam because I don't know anyone who would call from an 0845 number.

I got a call saying it was a sales representative from O2, however when she asked for my details, I asked her why she needed them and she promptly ended the conversation and hung up.

Apparently, 02 and all the other mobile companies publish the first 5 digits of numbers that they release in certain months eg. 07921 & 07922 were released in Jan 2006. What these marketing companies then do is randomly generate the last 6 numbers on an auto dialler and then try and sell you an upgrade when you answer. They do not hold any details about you but they will try and make out that they are calling from one of the main providers, when infact they are a backstreet 3rd party. Do not waste your time with them.

Spoken to O2 customer services, they deny this number's got anything to do with them. Sounds to me like you're in on the scam "Tom".......if indeed that's your real name. ps, paranoid? us?

Look I work at o2

This number is our welcome team line where we check that your latest order has arrived, eveything is ok and to ensure you do not want to port in your number or add insurance as you have a limmeted time to make these changes

the reason we ask to do a security check is because do you really want us to have gotten the number wrong, speak to some randomer who wants to add everything changed on your account to services you dont need,

I think not

Stop being paranoid
