Sorry to tell you all this but had a word with bt and there is nothing they can do - cannot even bar the number because it is from abroad - advise was to not answer the phone if the number comes up - and should go away eventually. WISH I COULD BLOODY WELL GET HOLD OF THE ~####~
TPS registered - similarly to you, I wanted to know how to get my revenge on this type of automated call. Came across excellent advice from this website:
Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the end of the line? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.
What you can do after answering, if you notice that no one is there on the other end, is to immediately start hitting your # button, six or seven times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of its system. (Confusion is a good thing).
BT is my main phone provider. This was obviously an automated call and when I picked up, the recording was already running. Briefly heard the words "pre-national awareness call, please listen carefully". I immediately cut off the call. Suspected I might be getting charged high rates for just listening.
still called even wih Call Prefence Service. Automated message, something about compensation so put the phone down.
Missed call from Yank land, some scam no doubt. Sub human scum.
Similar to others' experience - when answered a recorded message said: "This is a Pre-National Awareness Call, please listen carefully... are you having trouble paying your debts? ...all you need to do is press 5 now..."
I am ex-directory and TPS Registered.
Didn't answer, but checked the number afterwards: seems it's a US number spamming UK phones .. am also ex-directory & TPS
Called here in UK - automated call with an English accent but from a US number. How did they get my number? I'm TPS. I just put the phone down.
When answered a recorded message said: "This is a Pre-National Awareness Call, please listen carefully. Are you having trouble paying your debts?" At that point I put the phone down.
Can anything be done to stop irritating, annoying and totally unwanted advertsing calls even when your are ex-directory and TPS Regitered?

Didn't even get to the press 5, I am ex-directory and on the tps service. Annoying to think I am still getting these calls, but as it is a US number I doubt that there is much can be done about it. Data Protection doesn't apply there.
when answred the call was sales regarding compensation, encouraging the caller to press 5 to make a claim. Didn;t press 5. This call came through despite call preference service.
