In a course of 5 minutes I got 10 phone calls saying an inmate in North County Jail wanted me to accept a collect call. As other people have said on here voice muffled. I could here Professor..lol. It's annoying as hell. This is not the first time this has happened but this guy would not give up. I hit redial on my phone and it was busy. Someone here posted a number for Global Tel Link. I tried that; found it amusing that the bot spoke with a British accent. And the only options you are given are to talk to someone about billing. I think they were 4 options all having to do with money. I tried hitting 00000; and it said it was not valid option and call back again. I put myself on the do not call list years ago; I actually think it made it worse. I get more calls now then when I did not have my number on this list. 713 is in Houston. Someone here said that all calls from jail come from same number that just is not true.

Call this number, 716-853-8400, it is Buffalo District of NY State Atty Generals Office. Be very nice, they are very nice. They will mail you, or email you, an investigation complaint form. It is ILLEGAL to say you will come to a persons place of work. It is ILLEGAL to say you are going to be served a summons. DO NOT CALL THE SCAMMERS BACK. They just call names of people they find in phone book after buying up old debts. And Olivia Weston who calls, is just a drone who preys on people. Olivia Weston gets paid a percentage for each collection. Too bad if the lawyers who use her as a front let her hang out to dry and say "we NEVER knew she was using such language!" when the State Police come knocking, as they will..

If I was Olivia Weston, I would save something like a script provided by her boss, or emails that said "good job" for when she has to go to court. Then she could at least plead stupid.

Call THIS number, get the complaint form, and make the complaint. The woman on the phone told me they AGGRESSIVELY pursue this type of thing. Also, do not answer the call from the 00000 number, just let it roll to voice mail, and save the voice mail. I have several saved. Here is number for State atty General office New York in Buffalo... 716-853-8400

i first got a call like this last week.. it started off as a missed call and the number that displayed on my phone screen was +00000. Then there was another call after a few seconds and the number was +000. I got to answer it but the caller hung-up. After a minute or so another number came up which was +600013. I immediately answered the call but nobody on the other line responded. Weird thing is, these same numbers kept calling me for a good number of days. Still, i couldn't hear anyone from the other line.

You guys have any idea what this could be? It's distressing me. :(

Perhaps this is how the SCAM works: Take II
1) Some phone service carriers allow the customer to program their Caller ID to say WHATEVER THEY WANT!
2) When you get a call from said names/#'s and DO get through to either their automated system or a live "George-[from-India]", (loan #, SS# etc...) all they really want is your social and anything else they can get.
3) "I'm sorry, you have the wrong number, person doesn't have this Number anymore, etc." Often want your info so they "can take you off their list, verify that it is the wrong number, etc."
4) All they want is your SS# & ANYTHING else thay can dupe you out of - the more they get the easier it is for them to to commit their fraud. Although it's nice, they really don't give a rat's a$$ about your loan number which is why you can enter any bogus number and still get 'authenticated' by the system. Like one commenter said, he just entered 00000 for his zip code.
5) If you ask for a callback #, the give you the the 1-800-669-0102 number which as far as I can tell IS the LEGITIMATE number for CW / BOA (remember, there was an Obama-over of CW By BOA). They don't want YOU to call them back, 'cause then the jig's up! BOA has a really cool system that adds credibility to the scam. Also, they know BOA won't shut down their LEGIT automated system because of a few fraudsters, so you're out of their hair until their next call.
6) You call the # and because BOA is SO SLAMMED with with Mods, refie's, etc., they use a LEGITIMATE automated system to collect your data. IF in fact you do have some kind of loan with them, they use it for legitimate purposes so THEY can call you back and/or update their records.
7) Remember, they can program their caller ID to say ANYTHING!! ****THE 1-800-669-0102 PROBABLY IS A LEGIT CW/BOA NUMBER >>>BUT

Also, they know BOA isn't going to shut down their LEGIT automated system because of a few fraudsters. Your out of their hair for the moment / until their next call.

Got call, recorded tones and then message stating Bank of America and they are calling to let me know my account status has changed, please put zip code in. I put 00000 and was transfered to someone who said she couldn't give me any information on my account status until she verifies it's me by... My giving her my social security number. RED FLAG MOMENT!!! So I remind her that she's the one who called me, and that I am going to call Bank of America and verify this number. Called Bank of America, they said it's a FISHING CALL and NOT BofA. She took the number and forwarded to the appropriate fraud unit at BofA. This number is just someone looking to steal your identity and anything else they can by getting your personal info.

I too receive regular calls with a recorded message from 'Mimi' wanting me to lower my credit card interest rate. The caller ID shows "00000" as the number. I have attempted to be taken off their caller list but no luck. Now I simply hang up every time I hear the message.

Call them back, enter 0000-0000-0000-0000-0000 for the account #, 000-00-0000 for the SSN and 00000 for the Zip code. Might have to do it multiple times until you get a representative.
Once you talk to the representative just tell her/him that you don't own any GAP/OLDNAVY/BANANAREPUBLIC cards but you keep getting these phone calls daily.
Then suggest she/he lookup the phone number they called you on (safe to give as they know it anyways).
Once I gave her my phone number she told me they are looking for "THIS/THAT PERSON", when I told her I don't know anyone under that name and that it is probably the prior owner of this phone # she THANKED me and told me she will ask to remove the phone # from their collection file.
All is needed is to be polite and only provide the minimal information possible.
No more calls.
Good luck.

Just like you, I was getting these daily voicemails instructing me to call back 1-888-248-3182.
I did the research and read that it is related to GAP/OLDNAVY/BANANAREPUBLIC's Collection Agency.
Since I don't (and never did) own a GAP/ON/BR card I knew they must be calling a prior owner of my phone #.
The "trick" is, be polite, firm but polite.
I called them back, entered 0000-0000-0000-0000-0000 for the account #, 000-00-0000 for the SSN and 00000 for the Zip code. I had to enter 000-00-0000 and 00000 a few times until I got a representative.

I've seen this number before #000-000-0000 and never desired to answer the call but seeing that it was Sunday afternoon I thought maybe it was someone special from far far away 00000 land...anyways all joking aside it was actually the L.A. Times newspaper collection dept. I over looked making my payment of $13.89 and if I didn't pay by midnight it would be turned over to a third party collection agency. I question the Man on the phone who was always polite and answered all my qustions. He didn't make the policy he is just the messenger/collector. I just can't get over how fast they stop your delivery and demand payment OR ELSE! I then asked the Man on the phone if I could cancel my newspaper and of course that was a different dept. who don't work Sundays and are harder to get a hold of if for some reason you didn't receive your paper or it was stuck in the mud. What happened to the paperboys on bicycles? Those were the good ole' days!!
