The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want
Sick of the telemarketing calls.
Anti-telemarketing tools:
* VoIP - block or auto-forward telejunkers - all toll-free numbers go to voicemail. Some get redirected back to their own toll-free numbers.
* Skype - anonymously call toll-free numbers (no need for Skype credit) for investigating caller ID.
* dig/host and whois *nix commands - find out about telejunkers who have a net presence.
* Asterisk - very powerful when configured correctly, can send tele-junkers into a never-ending IVR or pre-emptively block them from whocalled.us lookups. More information on Xentel DM, one of North America's biggest and dirtiest telejunkers-for-hire: thestar.com

Like most Windows & Doors companies, Ontario Choice is yet another telespammer. Been getting call attempts from them for months - their number is on permanent block. Obviously, double-glazing salesmen have a bad reputation for a clear reason.
Compare the WHOIS info for oldtimershockey.com and shrine-circus.com - identical information. No co-incidence that Xentel DM have been calling on behalf of the Shriners the same days they've been telespamming for the Old-timers' Hockey Challenge:

Ass-clowns-for-hire, Xentel DM, telespamming for their "Old-timers' Hockey Challenge". They've been doing this shit for about 11 years now.

biggest scumbags in winnipeg. push you to take little old ladies' money and try to make you feel good about it when you get the "sale." sends about .5% of the donation to the charity while the fat cats at corporate take the rest of the dough for themselves. no breaks during the day, unless you "earn" them.
what a fucking shithole.'
Another call from these turds @ Xentel, although this time they actually said they were calling from "Chase Xentel" instead of whatever quasi-charity du jour they normally claim to represent. Asked for a member of my family, claiming it to be a "personal call" - yeah right! Called this number back to confirm if it was indeed Xentel (that I didn't mis-hear the name) and got a one-second blast of elevator music followed by ~10 seconds of silence, followed by a fast-busy tone. That one-second music is a classic sign of Xentel and it ties in with the fact that Xentel have a boiler-room operation in Winnipeg MB:

These 'tards don't give up. Every day it's a different number, but the CLID name is the same as the CLID number (instead of "Unknown" or "Out of Area". Probably the same scammers calling from whocalled.us although this one isn't through Digitcom.
2 fax spammer calls in 1 day (whocalled.us) ! Just as well I registered all my numbers on the Canadian National DNC list today [/sarcasm]. Let's see how (in-)effective that'll be.
Why would eBay be calling me? Especially since no-one in our household has an eBay account? Called this number back, curious to see the answer and got a terse "The person you are calling is on the phone, goodbye". Smells phishy to me.
After almost 11 months, they're back calling again. Added them to my VoIP blocklist. Probably a fax spammer war-dialling for viable fax numbers - it rang off after 4 rings.
My guess is that Digitcom Services (digitcom.net) is another Lucre-type company: a company probably run by telespammers, for telespammers. Why else would a *company* (as opposed to an individual) obscure their WHOIS information? Skyping the toll-free number on their contact page (1-800 464-5446) gets me an automated message mentioning "Wildgate for Digitcom customer support". This corresponds to the WHOIS for position.net (the DNS server domain): Administrative Contact: Admin, DNS; webops@wildgate.com; Wildgate Wireless, Inc.; 5280 E. Beverly Blvd.; Suite C, PMB 274; Los Angeles, California 90022; Tel: 310-861-6100
More of the same from whocalled.us (exact same modus operandi).
See also whocalled.us - exact same M.O.: Californian area code, CLID name = CLID number, credit card scam ("this is your [second and] final notice to reduce your credit card interest".
See also whocalled.us for an example of CLID name = CLID number, calling from California, and scamming credit cards.
Another website has this number down as a credit card scammer ("This is your
last call with important information about your credit card"). Fits in with the same M.O. as whocalled.us where the CLID name is the same as the CLID number, so probably the same clowns.
Another spammy politician, soliciting votes through the phone.
Got a voicemail from a woman called Lesley Cody (or however it's spelt) calling about "our timeshare". No company name, no reference numbers, just a request to callback to 1-888-226-1055 x241. Skyped this number back and went straight through to an operator who announced the call as "Vacation Register". Judging by this page: complaintsboard.com I'm guessing they should be avoided at all costs.
Used their services about a year ago - now they're telespamming us, leaving pre-recorded generic messages saying they called but no reason as to why. No more business for Empire Today from us.
Probably the same clowns who called earlier the same day from whocalled.us:
(626) 273-8210 6262738210 2008-09-22 20:04:51
(517) 931-2033 Unavailable 2008-09-22 18:24:39
Both identified as being credit card vultures. Google for "MCS Wealth" telespammers (the "real" MCS Wealth claims that this is someone impersonating them in a "vishing" scam).
Persistent little buggers - didn't ring off after 4 rings like most telejunkers do.
Caller ID number was actually 1-416-661-9915 even though 416 is local to me.
Full number from CLID is 151005000000000 (9 zeroes at the end). Probably related to the junk calls we occasionally get from whocalled.us (112595140000002) and 112595146936415.
After months of silence, Xentel DM are now telespamming us again. 2 calls in the same day from the same telejunker, representing 2 different "charities":
(800) 889-4625 Unavailable 2008-08-27 1100h ET (Ontario Blind Sports Association)
(800) 835-3193 Unavailable 2008-08-27 1515h ET (Mississauga Firefighters Association)

All tied to various automotive, card and vacation scams. Area code 506 is NB, Canada, but given that the last digit of the 3-digit exchange code changes and almost all are 11 digits, these calls probably do not originate from Canada. Likely an offshore scamster out of Costa Rica (+506).
whocalled.us, /lookup/50622238716, /lookup/50622169284, /lookup/5062265471, /lookup/50622654712, /lookup/50622943422, /lookup/50622175141, /lookup/50622238716
Adding 50622* to my blocklist right now :)

Probably relates to all the scam calls from 50622* today. See whocalled.us for examples. The leading "5" was probably trimmed from one of these fake 11-digit numbers.
See also whocalled.us
See also whocalled.us
No surprise that the tuckfards who are faking their caller ID with this number are telespamming/telescamming drugs. Of course, since it's true that there's a sucker born every minute, they will continue to call and harrass the rest of us.
Probably the same perps who call from "647" (just the 3-digit CID).
I get lots of calls from the CID name of "W & D" from various 416 numbers. Most of these calls come in on Saturday morning or late evening. Usually, when I call this number back to find out who the fsck these people are, the phone rings and rings with no pick-up. On 2008-07-17 @ 21:06, these clowns called. No reply on the callback. Tried this number again the next morning and the phone line picked up without even ringing, then I heard a fast dial out of someone's number. Sounds like these idiots are using multiple outgoing lines with a predictive or auto-dialer (hence the various numbers they call from). So, I said "hello?" and got connected to a telespammer asking for someone by name. He said he was calling from "Canadian Choice Windows & Doors".
From ago.mo.gov :
"February 4, 2008
Nixon obtains order requiring Florida telemarketer to pay $80,000 for violating state No Call law
St. Louis, Mo. — A Florida-based telemarketer that continued to make fund-raising calls to Missourians who asked not to be called will pay $80,000 to the state under a consent judgment obtained today by Attorney General Jay Nixon in St. Louis City Circuit Court. Nixon said Xentel Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., made the calls despite being cited for earlier violations in a 2004 court order. In addition to the $80,000 payment, Xentel also must abide by a list of policies and procedures to avoid continued violation of the law.
Nixon says that, despite the 2004 judgment, Xentel continued to engage in a campaign of soliciting for charitable donations from Missouri consumers who previously requested that the company place their residential telephone numbers on an internal do-not-call list. Such activity by Xentel not only violated Missouri consumer protection laws, but also the terms of the 2004 consent judgment against the company, Nixon says."
... and yet "Tim Petrillo" claims that Xentel honours DNC requests - yeah riiiiiight!
Called this number to check out the modus operandi. The auto-attendant on 816-913-0904 refers callers to 1-800-396-9470. I Skype'd the toll-free number: it answers with the same male voice as per the 816 number, then the usual dorky Xentel guy follows on. This is definitely another tentacle of Xentel DM.
See ago.mo.gov and ago.mo.gov to see how Xentel DM, aka "Xentel Inc", one of North America's worst telejunkers-for-hire, has been spanked by MO State Atty - not once, but *twice*.
Called this number back to see which member of the inbred GTA windows & doors telespamming clan this is, but the phone just rings and rings. They called just after 2100h ET.
These idiots tried to get through at 0750h ET on Friday morning. Luckily all toll-free numbers go straight to voicemail, so no-one was awoken by this call. They did not leave a voicemail, unlike on the other numbers they call from: whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us
This is in my blocklist as Royal Deluxe Windows & Doors - a member of the inbred clan of windows & doors telespammers in the GTA.
This number should be in service - Googling this number, I get links to The Canadian Marketing Association http://www.the-cma.org/?WCE=C=47|K=223470 :

See also whocalled.us and whocalled.us for more details of the telepests from ICT Group.
See also whocalled.us and whocalled.us - this time @ 2050h ET 2008-06-02, ringing off after 2-3 rings.
Junk voicemail left, telespamming "Twelve Angry Men" - I guess I'll be boycotting Mirvish Productions from now on.
These tele-fsckers left a junk voicemail, offering "free cruise tickets" if we take out a subscription to the Globe & Mail. Yeah right.
One thing is for certain: 000-000-0000 is not one unique telespammer. It's probably the default config for the same predictive dialer hardware/software combo used by all the telejunkers listed here.
Today, I get 4 calls in-a-row with the same M.O. as StarTec Comms, who fake their caller ID number as "90754" (whocalled.us) and most probably also fake CID with whocalled.us: 2008-05-29 18:09:27, 2008-05-29 18:09:36, 2008-05-29 18:09:43 and 2008-05-29 18:09:51 ET.
What's unusual is that this number doesn't ring off after 4 rings like most telejunkers.
It's a legitimate call - they were returning our call.
Skyped this number, got an Audix voicemail prompt telling me the mailbox was full.
Skyped this number - it immediately hung-up before ringing. Sounds like the same type of domain-slamming scammers at whocalled.us and whocalled.us
Skyped this number - it is for some debt collector: GE MoneyBank.
Probably relates to whocalled.us
See also whocalled.us where incoming CID is 000-000-0000 but callback number is for somewhere else.
Skype'd this number - it is for "The Christian Children's Fund".
Same as whocalled.us and whocalled.us
Rang off after 4 rings - usual sign of a telespammer. Called the number back and got an identical announcer to whocalled.us for Geo Holiday Services, except this number didn't leave a blank voicemail over a minute long like the previous number did.
Probably relates to the same bunch of mouth-breathers at whocalled.us and whocalled.us - same exchange, same line of business, nearly the same address:

When I check a cached version of their contact page, I get an email address: info@nationalwindowsdoors.com with identical WHOIS info, although the page title is for "First Choice Windows and Doors" which is most likely whocalled.us
2 days in a row. Another anti-telemarketing website has these perps down as "Action Windows & Doors". Another name to add to the boycott list.
Probably the same scam-tards (most likely vacation scammer spammers) who called me from whocalled.us on 2008-04-24. According to fonefinder.net the owner of 410-774-8xxx is "TX Telecommunications Services Ltd" - I smell another version of Lucre: a LD telecomms company run by telespammers for telespammers.
Probably relates to the other clan of mouth-breathers at whocalled.us - same exchange, same line of business, nearly the same address.
Also calls from whocalled.us ... another call came in earlier same day (2008-05-12) from whocalled.us - same exchange, same type of windows & doors telespammer - too much of a co-incidence; they're probably pimping lists of phone numbers amongst themselves.

Not a million miles away from 1111 Finch Avenue West, where the other inbred family of telespammers, Riviera Windows and Loyal Seal reside.
Probably another off-shore warranty scamster with a VoIP account that terminates in London, UK (hence the +44-207-xxx-yyyy number).
Probably "SLG Sales" AKA "Value Benefits of America" or one of the other scam-tards operating out of the 480-543-xxxx range (whocalled.us).
Same as whocalled.us and whocalled.us - much more info on these pages. Can't believe these scam-tards are still in business - I guess they found enough gullible fools to keep going.
I'll never stay at a Ramada resort or hotel since they are long-time spammers (at the very least, if you get into bed with dirty affiliates, you're still spamming-by-proxy):
groups.google.com
theharperteam.com
Skyped this number back. Got an Audix voicemail system prompt and the "name" of the mailbox is "thank you for calling - all agents are busy assisting others at this time - please try your call later". Exactly the same announcer as whocalled.us
Called twice 2008-05-09 @ 1535h and 1905h ET. The calls went straight to VM but no message left. When I Skyped the number back the next day, all I got was a busy tone.
Sears left a voicemail regarding a scheduled delivery. Despite the fact that Sears are normally spamtards, this call was actually legitimate.
Telling a scamster that you're busy in the hopes that they won't call back, doesn't work. The fact that they want credit card information for a "free" trip should be a red flag. Google is your friend: google.com - rip-off reports a-plenty: ripoffreport.com
Probably the same scam-tards from whocalled.us and whocalled.us - the sooner Lucre goes out of business, the better.
Called this number: it rang for about 10 times, then went to an Audix voicemail system, but their mailbox is full - a convenient way to avoid getting DNC request messages.
Skyped this number and got an announcer: "Welcome to the new AT&T... residential sales". Seems like "the new AT&T" is just like the old one: still a bunch of telespamming scumbags.
3 times already today (calls are routed straight to VM, but they never leave a message): 2008-05-01 ~15:45h, ~17:20h and ~19:15h ET. Calls at least once every day for the past 2 weeks.
Rang off after 3-4 rings. Called the number back and got a couple of rings, followed by a short fax tone burst, then silence. Tried it again and got a woman's voice "the person you are trying to reach is unavailable - please try your call again later".
Funny how the spammers infest this page out of all the available others. Makes one wonder if someone is deliberately making a lot of "noise" from behind anonymous proxies to try to drown out the fact that Tim either works for, or has close ties to, Xentel DM/Xentel Inc:

Periodic personalised reminder from The Canadian Blood Services (the mnemonic is 1-888-2-DONATE) asking for blood. We're registered with them, so the call is entirely legitimate.
Google search on this number reveals that this is a fax number for Globex Windows (hotfrog.ca). Given the propensity of Windows& Doors companies to telespam, what's the bet this is an attempt to fax-spam the GTA? Called this number back: it rang 6 or so times and then someone or something picked up the line and I heard fast, consistent speed tone-dialling - probably the fax machine trying to connect out again.
Don't know for sure if it is Multiphone calling, but the CID number returns a Google search result for multiphone.net - some Venezuelan long distance telco in Miami, Spam'ida. Skyped their toll-free (1-866-870-0014) and got an announcer all in Spanish. Since LD telcos have a proclivity for telespamming their own services, I'm betting this is yet another junk call.
If you're being harassed by Xentel DM, complain directly to these folks - Tel: (250) 383-5545, Fax: (250) 383-6112, 941 Pandora Ave., Victoria, BC, V8V 3P4, vwsac@vwsac.com / vwsac@islandnet.com
Inbound number for Xentel DM - telespamming on behalf Victoria Women's Sexual Assault Centre (whocalled.us)
Another one of Xentel DM's numbers, this time telespamming on behalf of "Victoria Women's Sexual Assault Centre". The toll-free inbound for this one is 1-800-470-0994 (whocalled.us).
They're still trying to get through, the persistent little buggers - never leaves a voicemail though (and that's all they'll get to speak to, unless I get bored and setup an auto-fwd to another telespammer's number). Today, 2 calls in one day, morning and night: 2008-04-24 @ 11:15h and 20:25h ET.
Yep, they're still calling (and still telespamming themselves in the process). Every 2-3 days, 1-2 times per day, all hours of the day (tonight's call came in at 2008-04-24 ~2015h ET).
"United Collection Bureau" AKA "APS Medical Billing" - questions@ucbinc.com, sales@ucbinc.com, jaseman@apsmedbill.com, jjbine@apsmedbill.com - another debt collector with a rip-off report: ripoffreport.com

Well at least these spamtards didn't leave a blank voicemail message this time - 2008-04-22 @ ~1835h ET.
Perhaps a blocklist starting with all numbers in the 416-661-xxxx range, such as:
whocalled.us - Loyal Seal
whocalled.us - Loyal Seal
whocalled.us - Fax spammer?
Of course, Alma Windows shares the same address as the tards from Loyal Seal and Riviera Windows:
1111 Finch Ave West Unit 210, Toronto, Ontario M3J 2E5, Tel: 416-661-9915, FAX: 416-661-9296, email: sales@almawindows.com

Telespammer's name is "Alma Windows". I think it's time to start a blacklist of all windows/doors companies in the GTA that invade our privacy.
These inbreds also called on 2008-04-22 - see whocalled.us for more info.
These inbreds also called on 2008-03-26 - see whocalled.us for more info.
I have all 410-774-xxxx numbers blocked in my VoIP (actually, calls from this block of numbers get auto-fwd'ed to another telespammer) so this one got trapped today - yay!
Didn't ring off after 4 rings, which is unusual for a telejunker, but I didn't answer the phone anyway - no voicemail left. Called the number back and got a scratchy answer-phone message (sounded like one of those old tape-driven ones) inviting me to punch in my number to be removed from their calling list. No company name. I never punch in my number, because it just confirms your number is live (not that this scratchy old machine would recognise it anyway). If I do get an apparent real touch-tone recogniser, I usually punch in the number I'm calling.
Just the one time on this occasion: 2008-04-23 16:00h ET.
We get occasional sample newspaper drops in our area for The Toronto Star, so I've been expecting them to start calling and they did. 1-2 times a day, at various times, every day this week so far. I am auto-fwd'ing this number to 1-800-428-3003 as of today (with 1 successful redirect) so we'll see how long they want to play this game.
Yep, a 999 area code really makes me want to pick up the phone! Also had calls from "The Vacation Store" from whocalled.us - maybe just the same name for your generic vacation scammer spammer.
See also whocalled.us
See also whocalled.us
From whocalled.us - see blog.wired.com for more info.
Looks like someone else noticed and commented on this sleazy "CLEC": whocalled.us - phone-sex lines and politicians: how apt!
Telephone 949-265-5139 (ANI data from DEP's post 2008-01-12) has also been blogged about by IT news website wired.com - see blog.wired.com for more info.

What's funny is that when I Skyped 1-888-GO-LUCRE, I get an announcer telling me to call 1-800-373-TALK (1-800-373-8255) which is an automated ad for a phone-sex line. Now we know what kind of business Lucre is in!
Of course, 616-980-2xxx is owned by Lucre, Inc (same as 269-768-2xxx). I suspect that Lucre is a shell company run by telespammers for telespammers.
Woman's voice on the whocalled.us number has changed, but now we're getting calls from the same telespammer on whocalled.us (exact same female voice on the "automated number removal system"). Obviously so ashamed of the tele-junk they purvey, they don't even say the name of the company or mention a live contact number.
Another telejunker that rings off after 4 rings. Called this number back and got an announcer advised that I had reached an automatic number removal system - identical woman's voice to whocalled.us - probably the same vacation scammer spammer.
Still calling - once or twice a day, every day. Time to start redirecting this number back to themselves - so many to choose from, but unfortunately none of them gets me straight through to a live operator.
Still calling - once every other day now.
Still calling periodically - whenever they call, they get auto-forwarded to an out-of-service number.
Since I started auto-fwd'ing this number to Direct Energy's 1-866-907-7260 number (which goes straight through to a live operator) they have started calling twice a day, almost every day.
Called this number back to see who it was (they rang off after 4 rings, definite telespam sign). Phone rings half a ring, followed by continuous elevator music. Very strange.

"Environics Research Group" tele-spamming surveys at 2140h ET (they also called at 1940h). Obviously, these people have no shame about calling so late, regardless of the fact they are not "selling" anything. Tele-pest refused my request to be put on their DNC list, telling me to call 416-488-5900 x271 and speak with a shift supervisor. That is illegal, per CRTC crtc.gc.ca : "DO NOT CALL lists are to be maintained by the calling party and remain active for three years. If, during the call, the called party asks to be put on a do not call list, the do not call request must be processed without requiring the called party to do anything further. If the call is made by an agent calling on behalf of a client, the agent must ask the called party if it wishes to have its name on the agent’s do not call list, the client’s do not call list or both do not call lists. As of October 1st, 2004, the caller must give a unique registration number to each called party who request to be added to the do not call list."
Called this number back - it is the membership and fund-raising dept of the Liberal Party of Canada. No option to leave a message or request removal.
Called 2025h ET 2008-04-14. Called this number back, but didn't get the full name of the company. Is there a windows & doors company within the GTA that *doesn't* telespam??
More evidence that Xentel does not honour DNC requests, unless threatened with a lawsuit: dmnews.com
[quote]When Xentel called me, I made it perfectly clear I wanted my phone number added to both Xentel's as well as the client's suppression list. I didn't learn until later that it's Xentel's policy to disregard the first part of that request, even when it's clear the consumer doesn't want Xentel to call back for any client.
It was only after I wrote and threatened a lawsuit did Xentel agree to add my phone number to a company-wide suppression list.[/quote]
Looks like the tele-spamming sock-puppets and shills from 75.185.177.232 have infested this website. Whassamatter, too many people chew you out on the phone for interrupting their dinner time and now you have to come here and vent to justify your "job" (using the term loosely)?
Yep, these "fundraising professionals" as their webshite puts it (a euphemism for "telejunkers-for-hire" by the way) are so professional, they have an @aol.com contact email address in their WHOIS info:

Inbound number for IBX Services - tele-spammers hawking duct cleaning and carpet cleaning. From whocalled.us and whocalled.us . Also looks like they've been polluting the GTA with street-spam: tinyurl.com

Skype'd 1-800-882-4184 and gave the operator a piece of my mind. I plan to send them a C&D letter by registered mail shortly.
The modus operandi belongs to StarTec Communications AKA Teligent, an ethically-challenged long-distance telco (in one of the service sectors with a propensity to tele-spam and to tele-junk-by-proxy). After months of calling with junk CID numbers ("90560", "90754" and "1800949993") they finally called without a faked/blocked caller ID today - see whocalled.us for more information.
Well, well, well... another Saturday and another 4 calls in-a-row with 8 seconds in between, with the first 3 coming from "90754". Unlike the last time (on 2008-03-15) the 4th CID number was not blocked - it came from 1-800-882-4184 (StarTec Communications - whocalled.us) just 8 seconds after the 3rd call, just like last time: 2008-04-12 10:24:02, 2008-04-12 10:24:10, 2008-04-12 10:24:18 and 2008-04-12 10:24:26 (toll-free number was auto-fwd'ed to voicemail, but no message left, just like all the other calls from StarTec). This time claiming to be calling from Direct Energy. Wanted to speak with another member of the family and would not deal with me.
Looks like they are also on the hunt for more telespammers (or "telesales professionals" as these wankers call themselves): canadajobs.allstarjobs.ca careers.toronto@startec.com dereje.demissie@startec.com
Just logging frequency of calls here. They also tried calling from whocalled.us on 2008-04-02.
See whocalled.us for more info.
GeoHoliday AKA "Geo Holiday Services" (without the medial caps). Left a 71-second blank voicemail. Called this number back and got an announcer telling me the name of the company (also mentions "Fairfield Affiliates") with options to hear directions to their preview centres in the GTA. Also quotes "Haliburton Heights" with a toll-free number of 1-800-509-3873. Don't know if they are trying to telespam or if they dialled the wrong number, but leaving a blank voicemail of over a minute, tells me that they are up to no good. Also Googled their name and noticed a few scam alerts for this company (specifically mentions "Fairfield" here too): aboutmytalk.com
Looking at redflagdeals.com it looks like Direct Buy is a big scam. Time to complain to alisaogger@sympatico.ca / fax (905) 608-9255 (only alternate contact info I can find for these clowns).

These telepests call periodically and always ring off after 4 rings. They also called from 905-608-9252 - whocalled.us for more info.

Called this number back. Got an announcer that said "Thank you for calling the general information line" but it did not state the company name. Classic sign of a telescammer-for-hire (or "professional fund-raiser" as these scum like to call themselves).
More Lucre-based telescammers using junk CID names - see whocalled.us for more info and examples.
Not surprising they are telescammers - calling from the world spam capital, Boca Raton, in the Spamshine State. Probably relates to the car warranty scams operated by Ralph Mancuso (whocalled.us) also out of Florida.
Inbound number for Xentel DM, telescamming on behalf of "The Illinois Police Association" - see whocalled.us for more information.
Definitely Xentel DM. Called this number and got the usual Xentel spiel of "calling you is the most cost-effective way to reach our goal". The toll-free inbound number for these mouth-breathers is 1-800-317-0667 (with the usual Xentel nerdy guy's voice on this number's announcer).
If you're being harassed by the minimum-wage reprobates at Xentel DM, be sure to complain to these folks directly:

Inbound number for "The Veterans' Assistance Foundation" (not "Association", even if it mattered) operated by scamsters-for-hire, Xentel DM (not "Zentel"). See whocalled.us for more information.
This is another one of Xentel's (not "Zentel") campaigns for yet another quasi-charitable organisation. The giveaway that this is Xentel DM, is the one-second blast of elevator music at the beginning and/or end of the announcer when Skyping this number. The voice isn't the usual dorky guy, but it uses the same combination of phrases that Xentel also uses. The announcer refers callers to 1-800-670-4919. Skyping that number gets you another announcer, this time with the familiar nerdy voice (compare to whocalled.us). Xentel are not debt collectors, although if are scammed into pledging a donation, they will probably hound you like a debt collector!
Inbound number for Xentel DM, telespammers-for-hire, calling OBO "The Ontario Blind Sports Association" (whocalled.us)

10AM on a Saturday morning - mouth-breathers.
Skyped this number back from my call log. Another outbound number for StarTec Communications (see whocalled.us for more info).
Looks like another telejunker/robocaller-for-hire. This one has an amateurish webshite @ mestoronto.com (with a mestoronto@yahoo.ca email address - yeah, really professional).
Wow... these fsckers, Xentel DM calling on behalf of the "Ontario Blind Sports Association", haven't called from this number in a long time. Of course, being toll-free, it went straight to voicemail without ringing my phone. Just as well, given that these fumbducks called at 17:00 *and* 21:05h ET 2008-04-03.
"SNTMN MIC" is another garbage CID name, much like the tele-spammers operating out of Lucre's 269-768-2xxx numbers (see a whole list of them @ whocalled.us).
Evidently another telejunker-for-hire that specialises in scamming money on behalf of various obscure "non-profit associations" affiliated with law enforcement (like Xentel does, although I'm not sure it is Xentel DM in this instance). If you get telespammed on behalf of the "Texas Department of Public Saftey Officers Association", be sure to complain directly to them on their dime: Domain Name: DPSOA.COM; Administrative Contact: King, James james@dpsoa.com / thethompsons@gmail.com; Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Associa; 5821 Airport Blvd.; Austin; Texas; 78752; United States; Tel: 512-451-0571; Tel: 1-800-933-7762; Fax: 512-451-0709

This is Xentel DM telespamming on behalf of The MS Society of Portland. The inbound number for that campaign is 1-800-379-2058. Same Xentel guy's voice as whocalled.us
Doesn't surprise me that they are resorting to telejunking - the University of Phoenix has been responsible for tons of diploma spam emails for years. More info @ uopsucks.com

Canadian Bonded Credits and Allied Interstate are all part of IMRC (IntelliRisk Management Corporation). Skyped this number and got a fake-sounding "call could not be completed" message (only 2 of 3 SIT tones).
If you Skype this number, you'll get straight through to an operator, who announces the call as "RX Global Online". If these people are calling and hanging up, I suggest returning the favour. They will eventually get the message.
Called this number back. "Thank you for calling MBNA - all our Customer Satisfaction Specialists are assisting other customers". Funny what names they give to customer service reps these days. My satisfaction would be not being telespammed at 8:40PM!
These idiots also called on 2008-03-14 at the same time (~2030h ET) but I was on another call - they didn't leave a VM message.
Looked like one of those VoIP termination numbers - so as I was expecting an overseas call, I answered and got a one-time automated message (male voice) that said words to the effect of "The call you just received was from Club Intrawest 1-800-649-9243. The call was for telemarketing purposes". Actually sounded like "Interwest". Skyped the toll-free number and got a female bi-lingual message that if I had any questions, to email tours@clubintrawest.com or enter my 10 digit phone number. I punched in *their* number, pressed "1" to confirm and "0" to get an operator. A "Mohammed" confirmed their business name as Club Intrawest:

Skyped this number - it is for UPS (the mnemonic is 1-800-PICK-UPS like you see on their brown trucks). Possible that scammers could fake their CID to make it look like UPS is calling.
Look at the garbage "name" field in CID. It's akin to email spammers putting in garbage subject lines in an attempt to beat spam filters (aka "hash buster"). In this case it's probably an attempt to transmit *something* in the CID name to prevent the call being blocked by privacy-guard type systems (that block calls where the number *or* name is "unknown").
More Lucre-based telespamming junk CID names: whocalled.us ("RBT NNS"); whocalled.us ("EDDCO SPKL"); whocalled.us ("BRIDG SSD"); whocalled.us ("STNS HOLLY")
Sounds like the same bunch of scammers calling themselves "Apex Services", who claim to be working out of Las Vegas (see tinyurl.com ). Even funnier that these idiots should be trying to scam someone in The Pentagon - they should have sent the black helicopters!
Don't know who keeps posting/reporting this number as "unknown" - it is confirmed as being "CBCL/Canadian Bonded Credit".
Anyway, since Skyping this number gets straight through to an operative, I've started redirecting this number back to themselves (to stop the junk voicemails that they sometimes leave). Just today (2008-03-15) I've had 4 attempts from them: 1155h, 1440h, 1610h and 1700h ET. I think they'll get the message to stop calling soon.
They're still calling - just once only today.
See also whocalled.us re Outreach Associates.
See also whocalled.us re Outreach Associates.
Back to repeatedly calling at 8 and 9 second intervals: 2008-03-15 11:10:21, 2008-03-15 11:10:30, 2008-03-15 11:10:38, 2008-03-15 11:10:46 ET. What's very interesting is that the first 3 attempts were from "90754" and the 4th (last) attempt was from a blocked number (just 8 seconds after the third attempt - it has to be them). My VoIP blocks calls from unknown/blocked numbers. Sounds like a telejunker is desperately trying to get through. No matter, my VoIP will keep auto-forwarding these spamtards to an out-of-service number.
Another call, another blank 1-sec VM. The longer this goes on, the more I think that MCS Wealth's claims of being targeted by a "vishing" (hate that word) scam are false.
See also whocalled.us for VA State FOP.
See also whocalled.us for VA State FOP.
Pity... the numbers are not Skype'able from here - get an immediate disconnect/Skype number-not-available tone.
Skyped this number - the announcer stated that it is the donor services line for "Outreach Associates" (or possibly spelled as "Out Reach" or "Out-reach"). If you press "#" you get a fax tone, so if they are telespamming you, feel free to send them a *very* long fax (at super-fine resolution to drag out the call).
Skyped this number - it is Millenium Teleservices calling on behalf of "Columbia House DVD Club". I see from columbiahouse.com that Columbia House also does an affiliate program, so Millenium TS is probably one of their telespamming affiliates.
Skyped this number and got SIT-tones followed by "The service you requested is unavailable from your calling area SPN98".
Caller hung up when they got through to my voicemail (most telepests ring off within 4 rings before my VM picks up) but no message left. Called this number back and got an immediate announcer telling me to punch in my 10-digit phone number if I wanted to be removed from their calling list - no company identification or anything. A sure sign of a telejunker. I do not "opt-out" of these systems by punching in my number, because like spam email, it only confirms to a telejunker that your number is live. Also, it tells them that you either listen to voicemail (if they leave one) or that you're available to be harassed around the time you punch in your number.
Tried calling this number, but it won't connect - fast busy.
One of the many telescammers operating out of the 410-774-xxxx range (example: whocalled.us).
Inbound number, operated by dirty telescammers-for-hire Xentel DM, on behalf of the "Surrey Women's Centre Society" in Surrey, BC:
Other names: Pro Bono Family Law Clinic; 10075 136A Street, Surrey, BC, V3T 4G1; Support Line: 604-583-1295; Business: 604-589-1868; Fax: 604-589-2812; E-mail: info@surreywomencentre.ca; Web: surreywomencentre.ca
Admin-Name: Sonya Boyce
Admin-Title: Acting Executive Director
Admin-Phone: 604-589-1868 223
Admin-Mailbox: sboyce@telus.net
Complaining to the telescammer is pointless - Xentel does not honour DNC requests because most of their $9/hr reprobate operatives don't give a flying fsck about your privacy. Complain directly to the "charity".
This is yet another one of Xentel DM's numbers - calling on behalf of the "Surrey Women's Centre Society" (Surrey BC). The inbound number is 1-800-204-1341 (whocalled.us).

Interesting.... Skyped this number and got straight through to a live operator who said that it's the customer number for "YP.com". So, let's see who they really are:
$ host yp.com
yp.com has address 128.242.112.70
$ host 128.242.112.70
70.112.242.128.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer livedeal.com.
Which corresponds to the Google-esque "LiveDeal" logo on their page. The WHOIS for livedeal.com is for a company in Santa Clara, CA. What's interesting is that this company also has the domain livedeal.ca, which is run by the Toronto Star in Ontario, Canada (livedeal.ca looks almost identical to the livedeal.com one). Funny co-incidence that they should call back from the infamous 480-543-xxxx range (per "Sue" 2007-12-07). My bet is that this relates to scamsters "SLG Sales". Perhaps they're faking their CID to be YP's toll-free number and acting as affiliates/middle-men for Yellow Pages.
The registration page asks you specifically for your cell phone number and cell provider. I see it as a harvesting attempt so that they can send you SMS spam (using email-to-SMS gateways such as 10digitphonenumber@myvzw.com). The *only* contact information their webshites will give you is info@careernetworksite.net - no phone numbers, no physical addresses or contact names. Look at all those Fortune 500 companies (jobappnow.com) they so-say recruit for! Sounds very suspicious to me.

Their amateurish, god-awful webshite at nationalbrands.com makes it look like some shell company - probably a company run by telespammers for telespammers, given the different numbers SLG Sales call from within 480-543-xxxx. But anyway, perhaps anyone who's been abused by SLG Sales or any other telejunker using Sharenet's numbers, should complain to: Gary Joseph (602) 516-1207 garyj@nationalbrands.com
Per fonefinder.net (thanks for the tip, junkfax.org !) the telephone company who owns the numbers in both the 480-543-xxxx and 623-238-xxxx ranges is "National Brands Inc" doing business as "Sharenet Comms". Complaining directly to the telespammer is as effective as trying to complain directly to an email spammer - pointless. You need to chase the telco who is providing connectivity and facilitating this abuse.
Jim: it's unlikely that Walmart even have a hand in this. The scammers are baiting potential victims with gift cards and mention Walmart. The next call, they could be "giving away" Sears or some other big store gift card. It's just a ruse to get your credit card number.
This is related to the same bunch of turds calling from whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us (410-774-8662 is doing the rounds today - see whocalled.us). Per "Kahuna", the vacation scammers are also calling from this number, so it's not limited to car warranty scams.
Also, the last 4 digits in both 410-774-xxxx and 269-768-xxxx will be different, but it's likely to be a pool of numbers assigned to one VoIP wholesaler (just like how 480-543-xxxx and 623-238-xxxx is the same spammer calling from 2 different area codes). I don't think that the idiots calling from 410-774 and 269-768 are directly related to "SLG Sales", but I do believe that both of these boiler-room operations are operating various scams-du-jour concurrently.
Oh and since I pressed "1", I'm sure their retarded predictive dialer is going to call me back, so I've set up a rule in my VoIP to auto-forward any 410-774-xxxx numbers to another telejunker's toll-free number (one that goes straight through to one of their operatives). Just looking at my call log, 410-774-8662 called twice today: 2008-03-13 1712h and 1834h ET.
Another vacation spammer/scammer - robo-message for a vacation package somewhere in the Spamshine State, Florida. Seems to me that the vast majority of spammers originate in Florida (and almost every vacation tele-spam is for resorts in Florida). Anyway, I don't normally answer unknown numbers, but I'm expecting an overseas call today, so I picked up. Got the robo-spam message and I pressed "1" to see who these scammers are. Line goes quiet and disconnects after about 10 seconds. Looks like these morons can't even staff the calls their predictive dialers make. What a fscking waste of time. Upon looking back in my posting history, I notice that they are the same turds who are calling from whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us (identical woman's voice when calling back all these numbers, but different woman's voice in the robo-spam message). I suspect that 410-774-xxxx is another one of those wholesale VoIP provider number pools (just like the various telespammers who call from the 480-543-xxxx range).
Identical announcer message as that on 1-800-254-4310, referring callers to 1-800-254-4326 (whocalled.us).
From announcer message at whocalled.us this is yet another one of Xentel's inbound numbers.
Xentel DM on behalf of "Crime Watch Canada" (badly-designed webshite shows it as "CrimeWatch Canada"). The inbound number for this campaign is 1-800-379-8820 (whocalled.us).
Xentel DM's campaign inbound number from whocalled.us. Logging these numbers, in case they are ever mentioned in voicemail announcers (to make it easier to track down this massive telespam operation).
Telespammers Xentel DM calling on behalf of "The Calgary Firefighters' Burns Fund". Their inbound number for that campaign is 1-800-710-7098 (whocalled.us).
From announcer message at whocalled.us
Xentel DM on behalf of "The Canadian Cultural Society For The Deaf". Their inbound number for that campaign is 1-800-525-9472 (whocalled.us).
From announcer message on whocalled.us
Another cog in Xentel's spam-mill. Announcer has usual dorky guy's voice, referring callers to 1-800-254-4326 (whocalled.us).

Skyped this number - it is for Verizon Wireless.
Inbound number for Xentel DM on behalf of AMVETS - see whocalled.us for more info.
This is another tentacle of Xentel Inc. Identical guy's voice on the announcer to numerous other Xentel toll-free numbers (examples: whocalled.us and whocalled.us). Announcer transcript: "Thank you for calling. You have reached the automated information system for AMVETS, The American Veterans. You are probably calling one of our toll-free numbers that have appeared on your display phone. Sorry if this has caused you any inconvenience. The reason we called, was to ask for your support for our current community programs. Should you wish further information, please contact our support centre at 1-800-327-4302. Those phones are staffed 9 till 9 Eastern Time. Thanks for calling and goodbye for now [short blast of music]".

Skyped this number - got an announcer with some woman with a Northern British sounding accent. The number is for "ETour and Travel" (etourandtravel.com) which gives an alternate contact number of 1-800-339-5114. Their website also has inbound toll-free numbers: Orlando, FL 866-912-9286; Hollywood, FL 866-836-3855; Kissimmee, FL 866-311-2562; Largo, FL 866-639-7720; Non-toll-free: 407-658-1768 and 407-515-2400.

From whocalled.us - this is the inbound number for the "Old Timers Hockey Challenge" - one of the "charity" events run by master telejunkers, Xentel DM. Announcer has the same dorky guy's voice as all the other numerous inbound numbers owned by Xentel (compare his voice to whocalled.us).

Called this number - no answer.
So they called again 2008-02-27 15:25 and 18:35 ET. Looks like our family doctor sold our number to this HealthScreen company (they mentioned the Dr's name). They were calling to try and get us to sign up for a reminder call service. So much for patient-doctor confidentiality.
Called this number. Got a scratchy voicemail announcer with an option to leave a message. If these clowns aren't legit, why aren't they being closed down?
Skyped this number - announcer said "Thank you for calling Verizon's inbound sales support line". If this is an inbound number, why is it being used on outgoing CID?
Skyped this number and got an immediate disconnect - didn't even ring.
See notes on whocalled.us - this is a telejunker's inbound number that reports as being no longer in service.
Skyped this number. Announcer answers with "Credit problems? [...] Call 1-800-511-0527 for instant debt relief". Skyped 1-800-511-0527 and got a message "The number you have reached is no longer in service. No further information is available". I guess this telejunker can't afford to pay for the upkeep on their toll-free numbers - hopefully they will go completely out-of-business soon.
More desperados: 2008-02-20 17:11:59, 17:12:27 and 17:12:55 ET. Attempts to call right back after being auto-shunted to an OOS number (exactly 28secs in between each attempt).
My guess is that it's all different telejunkers using the same telespamming software/hardware that has the default configuration as 000-000-0000 as the outbound number for the PRI.
Seems to be related to this: news.therecord.com (healthscreen.com)
This number rang off after 4 rings (usual sign of a telejunker). When I called it back, I got an automated message "Hi. You have reached HealthScreen Preventive Care office. If you received a call from this number, we were following up on preventive care services, such as flu shots, on behalf of the doctor. The call was not urgent and we will attempt to call you back shortly - thank you" with an option to leave a message.
Even more Xentel sock-puppetry @ whocalled.us - more posts from 139.142.139.89 in the name of "Smith" - same as Petrillo's IP address. Who do these clowns think they're fooling?
Called this one back. Announcer advises me to call 1-800-396-1757 for more information, which *is* the inbound number owned by Xentel DM/Xentel Inc.

National Association of Police Athletics Leagues - NAPAL/NAPAAL - see whocalled.us for more info. Haven't called this number to verify if it's Xentel who are telespamming from it specifically, although it is Xentel on the 410-968-7987 number (and the inbound number whocalled.us also belongs to them).
Called this number back and got a fast-busy.
Same bank of numbers as the perps at whocalled.us, whocalled.us and whocalled.us (which in turn is probably the same band of degenerates in the 480-543-xxxx range - see my notes at whocalled.us).
This is an inbound number for Xentel DM (telespamming on behalf of NAPAL). See notes on whocalled.us
Called this number. Got a 1-sec blast of elevator music, followed by an announcer that told me to call 1-800-396-1757. That 1-second bit of music is a sign of Xentel DM. Skyped 1-800-396-1757 and got same announcer for "National Association of Police Athletic Leagues" (same guy's voice). Then the familiar dorky Xentel guy's voice comes on with the same old "In order for us to serve you to the best of our abilities, please listen to this message in its entirety before making your selection..." with IVR menu options (compare this to whocalled.us). Xentel hires just about anyone who couldn't cut it in a real job, so you'll find most of their operatives to be rude, pushy and non-compliant to DNCL requests. This is why they will call you back ad nauseum.
This number calls infrequently: 2-3 times a day, then nothing for a month or more. Sometimes the caller ID number shows as (180) 094-9993 and sometimes as (800) 949-9935 (whocalled.us) which when Skype'd, comes back as "Startec Global Communications". It's just another common-or-garden Long Distance tele-spammer, who ignores OOS messages: 2008-02-06 14:35:55 and 2008-02-06 14:36:22.
Called 2008-02-05 ~1630h ET. We didn't pick up. When calling the number back, it rings 2-3 times, answers with dead air for ~15 secs, then there's a fast-busy.
Canadian survey tele-spammer, "Elemental Data Collection" (Skyped this number after they called, two times in two days so far). Like Ipsos-Reid, these twerps are also based out of the 613 area, from elementaldci.com:
130 Slater Street, Suite 1010, Ottawa ON K1P 6E2; (T) 613-667-9352; (F) 613-667-9470; TOLL FREE: 1-866-667-9352; EMAIL US: info@elementaldci.com; Colin Kiviaho | Partner ckiviaho@elementaldci.com; Darcy Zwetko | Partner

Yep, these inbreds called today and the phone only rang 2-3 times before they rang off. Most telejunkers disconnect 4-5 rings. Probably another "probe" to see if anyone's around so that they can call back another time of day.
See whocalled.us - located in Boca Raton, deep within the Spamshine State (where most of the worst email spammers also reside).
They're still trying to get through - 2nd or 3rd time this week. Next time they call, they'll get auto-fwd'ed to their own toll-free number: 1-800-563-6655.

Skyped 1-888-520-4890 and got no answer.
Called this number - as I suspected, it is the identical message and woman's voice to whocalled.us (and whocalled.us)
Calling this number back, I get identical woman's voice message to whocalled.us
Called this number - got a "your call cannot be completed as dialed" message.
Called this number back, to see if it's related to whocalled.us and whocalled.us - it isn't. Announcer advises that if I want to contact a live representative, to hang up and dial 616-555-1234 (which is Directory Assistance). So now we have telespammers telling victims to call Directory Assistance? How weird.
Called this number - got a message "You have reached our number removal system...". If a so-called business answers with that sort of message, you know it has to be a scam, as they obviously don't want (a) identify themselves or (b) hear back from all the people they harass.
We get numerous calls that open with an automated, pre-recorded message of "You've won a vacation", so I looked through my logs and found another number, whocalled.us - when calling this number back, the woman's voice is identical in the "You have reached our number removal system..." message.
Called twice today. 2nd time they called, I picked up and as soon as I said "Hello" the line makes a ringing sound. Woman comes on the line, claiming to be from TD (as per their announcer when calling that number back). I asked her how I could be sure it's TD calling and she gives me a callback number of 1-877-301-9198. Skyped this number and got a voicemail service, telling me to leave a message.
Male voice left a pre-recorded VM message: "[20 seconds of silence] Hello, this is Canadian Bonded Credit Limited calling regarding a very important business matter. Please call us Monday to Friday 7AM to 12AM Eastern Standard Time and Saturdays 9AM to 9PM at 1-866-294-1752 - thank you". Unusual that a debt collector should identify themselves, much less leave a voicemail.
6 months on, these wuckfits are still periodically trying to get through - they are on perma-ban in my VoIP block list (auto-fwd'ed to an OOS number). Does not call as frequent as whocalled.us but I suspect it's the same perps, as they try 2-3 times in the space of a minute (just like the inbreds at 90560): 2008-01-22 11:01:34 and 2008-01-22 11:02:03 ET.
Relates to whocalled.us
Skyped this number - got an announcer "Thank you for calling Sprint...", so if Sprint says it's not them, it's probably one of their telespamming affiliates.
Skyped 866-800-8692 - it came up as "Enterprise Rent-a-Car". The other number, 866-880-8692, just rings and rings.
Skyped this number - it is "Westgate Cruise Centre/Center".
Skyped this number and got a fast busy.
Skyped this number - it just rings and rings.
Skyped this number and got a menu with the option to dial 0 for the operator. Held on the line for 20+ mins of sad music. I guess they'll get a nice fat charge on their toll-free bill.

Looks like "shelley" (whocalled.us) is the sock for "Stop whining" (whocalled.us) or vice-versa. Both posted through 207.200.116.204 (an AOL web proxy in California) on 2007-05-25.
I would suggest that for every call that you get, call 1-800-622-5725 to complain on their dime (and tell them you're using their toll-free, so it's in their best interest to add your number to their DNC list).
Skyped this number. There is a voicemail option to leave your number to be removed - seems to allow me to stay on the line without saying anything for at least 5mins!
Actually, VSNL is one of India's biggest telecoms (ISP and LD) providers. According to Wikipedia, Tata Communications owns a controlling stake in VSNL (the Indian Govt has a minority stake). It's probably a boiler-room operation somewhere in India using VSNL's VoIP or LD service, hence the caller ID names VSNL and TATA COMM.
See also whocalled.us for examples of sock-puppetry from Xentel on posts made to this and other anti-telemarketer boards.
Documenting more evidence against Xentel, for Google archiving purposes...
More Xentel sock-puppetry @ whocalled.us (note the IP address):
"2007-04-10 Juile 139.142.139.89
I received a call from the California Police activities league as I am an active giver. Cal Pal saved my Childs life" (ignoring the fact that 139.142.139.89 is owned by Xentel for a second, why is a Californian posting via a Canadian IP address?)
"2007-05-05 John 139.142.139.89
Actually guys, most Charities/Telemarketing splits result in the Telemarketing people keeping 85% and the charity getting 15% So if what your saying is true and 35% is going that means they did 3 times better then your average cause…" (someone can't multiply!)
Both of these sock-puppets also posted identical messages on another anti-telemarketing board for 1-559-272-6406. I suspect that "shelley" and "megan" at that board are either Tim's "socks", or other Xentel stooges (employees told to post to support "the cause").
Skyped this number - got a vague, contradictory message saying "we're sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service at this time, or cannot be reached from your calling area". Either the number is in service, or it isn't - being outside of the calling area is a separate issue.
Skyped the number - got a "call could not be completed as dialled".
Sounds like a bunch of con artists have calling cards or a long distance access account and are using it to hide their true phone numbers. This recurring $1.95 shipping & handling scam (just another version of the advance-fee fraud en.wikipedia.org) is too much of a co-incidence. See whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us / whocalled.us for examples.
Related to the same JAYSHREE/Apex scamsters as whocalled.us
Called this number back. Phone rings 3-4 times, then I get SIT tones with the message, "the number you have called is not in service... this is a recording". It's a recording alright, and it sounds fake. The sort of thing you'd expect from sneaky telepests that don't want to be contacted (after all, when they hang up on you, you can't even request to be added to their DNC list, even if they honoured those requests).
Skyped this number - answers with a fax machine.
Wow, these scamsters also appear to be related to the massive "JAYSHREE" telespam (example whocalled.us) out of NJ. The same $1.95 S&H scam, which amounts to nothing more than a simple Advance Fee Fraud. No different to the 419 email scams, just a different premise to get your banking details.
Relates to whocalled.us - exact same scam ("free digital camera and vacation" for $1.95 S&H).
The scammer on 1-800-888-7890 is "Apex Services" (apexservicesonline.com) which has a link to "Advantage Communications" (advantagecommunicationsonline.com) with a telephone number of 1-866-904-7796. Do a WHOIS on both apexservicesonline.com and advantagecommunicationsonline.com, you'll see both of these domains were only created on October 2nd 2007, same registrar also as slimbodyfuel.com (another link off of Apex website).
Looks like whocalled.us also relates to these jokers as well (including onlineadvantageinc.com and callusaonline.com). All fits in with so-say being in Las Vegas, but it's probably just another offshore boiler-room faking caller ID, or using an American long-distance/VoIP provider.
Had to laugh at the banner ad on that Apex website: "Unlimited Long Distance, Simple & Reliable Internet! Only $29.99 per month. Free Monthly Vacation & Access To Guaranteed Weight Loss". Like, WTF does internet access have to do with vacations and weight loss? It *reeks* of scamminess.
Skyped this number and got SIT tones, followed by "We're sorry, your number cannot be completed as dialed".

Apex Services = Advantage Communications, with a bizarre link to weight loss too.
According to advantagecommunicationsonline.com, 1-866-988-1671 is their support number. "Apex Services" and "Advantage Communications" are one and the same outfit, trying to scam people into giving their credit card number for $1.95 S&H for a free vacation and digital camera. See whocalled.us and whocalled.us for more information and links on these con artists.
Probably the same bunch of desperados as whocalled.us, which is in turn related to whocalled.us (and all the other turds in the 480-543-xxxx telespam sewer).
Probably the same as whocalled.us - another car warranty scammer in the 480-543-xxxx range, along with all the other various scams-du-jour. Hard to tell if this is one big boiler-room operation, or several small ones using a common carrier (like a VoIP provider).
May be related to: whocalled.us (CALPAL/Xentel) which is, in turn, related to whocalled.us
My theory: both WSLive and Xentel are totally different entities, but they both use the same carrier (probably a VoIP provider) with outbound numbers in the 510-373-xxxx range.
Yes, Henrik, anyone can cut'n'paste text from CALPAL's website - regurgitating this information doesn't make it anymore credible - it does not get around the point that money raised does not equal money given to charity. Whilst I'm sure no-one would argue with the concept of what CALPAL tries to do, I don't think anyone would give $25 if they knew that only 17 bucks (going by Tim Petrillo's figures) went to helping the kids.
In reality, Xentel rarely gives more than 15% of funds raised to these charities, so the actual figure is going to be closer to a measly $3.75 out of $25. Given that Petrillo expressly stated that CALPAL has no connection to Xentel and yet he is posting from Xentel IP address space (whocalled.us) I doubt even his unimpressive 68.4% claim is true either.
This is another Dish Network number, or one of their numerous telespamming affiliates. See also whocalled.us re caller ID name as "Important" (seems to be a trick of the trade for email spammers to use deceptive subject lines - this looks like the telejunking equivalent).
More information at casualobservation.com about this specific number.
Interesting. 0207 is the area code for central London, UK. Also, all UK cellphones begin with 07.
Skyped this number. Got an announcer about a "Public Safety Association in your state" with an option to leave a call-back number so that they can callback to give more information. So I gave them 877-749-7846 as the callback number.
Skyped this number - a fax machine or server is still attached to this toll-free. If I get any junk-fax calls, I think I'll auto-forward them to this number!

Seems to be another part of the varied telespam-mill originating out of the 480-543-xxxx range.
Just like with the email spammers, the big telco's will NOT disconnect abusive customers, no matter how egregious, so long as their customers pay top bucks for the privilege. Most likely the reason why these turds are so rude, is that no-one appears to be falling for the various types of scams this company is operating out of the 480-543-xxxx range - they are now becoming desperate to recoup the money they've shelled out to whichever carrier they are with.
Yes Scott, it sucks having to make ends meet by knowingly harassing people every working hour. You can almost smell the desperation coming down the phone line from these hickdeads: 01/14/08 11:35, 12:10, 14:00; 01/15/08 12:20, 14:50, 17:15; 01/16/08 14:45, 17:15, 19:35; 01/17/08 12:55, 13:20, 13:40, 14:25, 15:30; 01/18/08 16:10, 16:30, 16:50, 17:30 ET.
Yep, these bar-stewards have been calling 4-5 times a day for the past week. I have a better solution to calling this number back and hoping that they will stop calling. My solution is to program my VoIP to auto-forward this number to 1-800-201-1085. Let them call and get double-charged for the privilege.

Been 3 months since they last tried - didn't answer the phone this time.
This number called twice 2008-01-18 ~1730h and ~2005h ET. I rarely answer these types of calls, but being curious, I answered. Script-monkey girl on the other end wants to know if I'll participate in a quick survey on travel. Didn't say who for, so I asked and she said "The Vacation Store". Told her I don't travel much and hung up. Probably a "survey" that is actually a prelude to high-pressure sales calls (scouting for easy/vulnerable marks) given this post: groupsrv.com
Avoid Xentel like the plague. Give one penny to this huge telejunking operation for any of the so-called charities they represent: expect more calls from other organisations who hire them.
Next time you get a call at dinner time from a $9/hr college drop-out claiming to be raising money for your friendly neighbourhood FOP or State Trooper Lodge, politely but firmly ask them "do you work for Xentel?" and see how fast they hang up on you. No slick rebuttals or anything!
"2008-01-12 Tim Petrillo 139.142.139.89

Oh, and just in case you try to claim that anyone can set up an ARPA zone to frame you, consider this:
$ host xentel.com
xentel.com has address 139.142.139.93
So you claim to work for CALPAL not Xentel, you have a CALPAL email address, yet you post from deep inside Xentel IP address space. I think the word is "busted". Curious to know... is that dorky voice on all those Xentel "customer care" lines yours (whocalled.us)? Oh, and even if that 68.4% figure is true, 31.6% is still an atrocious percentage to spend on hiring telejunkers.

Skyped this number back - it is for "The American Education Foundation"
"Special Olympics of Ohio"?
Skyped this number. Same standard Xentel announcer on their "Customer Care" lines. Same dorky guy's voice says: "In order for us to serve you to the best of our abilities, please listen to this message in its entirety before making your selection..." (as per whocalled.us)
See whocalled.us
Skyped this number back. Got an Audix voicemail system prompt and the "name" of the mailbox is "thank you for calling - all agents are busy assisting others at this time - please try your call later". Yeah, that sounds really professional.
Inbound number for Xentel DM, telespamming on behalf of The Rameses Shriners (whocalled.us) (rameses-shriners.ca)
Inbound number for this one is 1-800-470-5349 ("Rameses Shriners"). If you're being telespammed by Xentel, I would suggest directly complaining to this person every time you get a call:

No, this is Xentel DM, attempting to fleece more gullible people of their money, on behalf of "Shriners". Same cookie-cutter announcer as all the others.
Skyped this number back - it is for Gemma Communications, one of Canada's worst telejunkers-for-hire.
This is another Xentel number, this time for The New England Narcotics Enforcement Officers' Association (newenglandneoa.org). How do I know it's Xentel? It's their cookie-cutter announcer, as per whocalled.us - just substitute the name of the "charity" and the inbound number.
Skyped this number. No answer. Another "don't call us, we'll call you" telejunker.

Skyped this number back. Voicemail announcer said "Thank you for calling The Share Group..." with an option to leave a message for number removal or to log a complaint. It's another telejunker-for-hire who collects on behalf non-profits.
Skype reports "the number you dialed is either invalid or does not exist". Very suspicious.
Okay people. With 828 reports and 418 comments to date, it's obvious that Ipsos Reid, whilst exempt from the DNC legislation (by virtue of being Market Research and also by calling from outside of the US) is bugging the hell out of a lot of people. From their own website (ipsos.ca) there is a very useful telephone number - 1-888-210-7425 - which you can call (use Skype or a payphone) and get further toll-free numbers to vent your frustration at. These Market Research companies are being paid by *someone* to waste *your* time and invade *your* privacy, so it doesn't really matter that they aren't trying to directly sell you something. Like "cm" said, it's no different to telemarketing. So, for each and every call you get, make them pay by Skyping back their toll-free numbers or complain from a freemail account to pat.daniel@ipsos-na.com and ken.rudnick@ipsos-na.com.
Skyped this number. Call answered with about 5 seconds of elevator music, then some guy answers with "Hello?"
Skyped this number back - got straight through to a live person answering the phone as "The American Heart Association".
The Children's Cancer Research Coalition is a program operated by these folks: medical-support.org
I suggest that if you want the calls to stop, don't waste your time asking Xentel to put you on their DNC list, as it rarely works. The best way to stop the calls is to contact the hiring organisation each and every time you are harrassed by the telespammers they hire. From the WHOIS on medical-support.org:

Inbound number for the Children's Cancer Research Coalition (from whocalled.us). This is actually operated by Xentel DM, a "professional fundraiser" that keeps a large percentage of any donations. Posting this number in case it is quoted in any voicemail message as a callback number.
Skyped 1-800-379-8943 and got brief announcer from same female voice. Then the same dorky Xentel guy (on whocalled.us) says "In order for us to serve you to the best of our abilities, please listen to this message in its entirety before making your selection..."
This is yet another part of the Xentel tele-spam mill. Compare the words in the announcer message on this number (female voice): "[1 sec blast of music] Thank you for calling the Information Line for the Children's Cancer Research Coalition. Your call is being processed by our automated system. You are probably calling this number as it appeared on your display phone. We were calling to give you information and ask for your support for the upcoming programs we are involved in this year. Calling you is the most cost-effective way for us to reach our goal(s). We are sorry we missed you at that time. Should you wish further information, feel free to contact our Customer Care Centre at 1-800-379-8943. Those phones are staffed 9AM to 7PM Eastern Time. Thanks for calling and goodbye for now. [1 sec blast of music]" to the announcer on whocalled.us

Looks like each number calling from the 480-543-xxxx pool is specialising in each of the scams-du-jour. Vacation scams, energy slamming and telephone slamming. This one appears to be the discount medication scam department.
Called 2008-01-10 ~1900h and ~2000h ET. Did not answer the phone. A Google search came up with protocolmarketing.com - looks like another telejunker-for-hire.
Called this number back. VM announcer said "Thank you for calling TD Canada Trust. One of our representatives recently tried to contact you. The call was not of an urgent nature. We will attempt to contact you again. If you would like to leave a message for one of our representatives, please press 1".
Probably relates to whocalled.us - only last 2 digits difference. If so, this is CALPAL, a tentacle of Xentel DM.
Wow... look at all the Californian charities that benefited from Xentel's fundraising efforts - the best of the best got a whopping 15% of monies raised in 2005: ag.ca.gov/charities/publications/2005cfr/Table_1.pdf and ag.ca.gov/charities/publications/2005cfr/Table_4.pdf

Well, well, well... Tim's a Xentel stooge! These are the fumbducks who call on behalf of the numerous FOP lodges, state trooper assoc's, firefighters, etc. Well, Tim, none of Xentel's employees are actually police officers, are they? Or firefighters, or state troopers? You guys just like to give that impression when you call.
If there's any reason to boycott an organization *regardless of its apparent charitable status* it's those charities that treat donors (and prospective donors) with contempt, by hiring telejunkers. And not just any telejunker. To really make an impression, these "charities" recruit nefarious telespammers who get spanked by state AG's (see ago.state.co.us and ago.mo.gov for two out of many examples where Xentel does NOT stop calling people). See, Tim, if you try hiding behind "gatekeeper refusals" as license to keep pestering people, you will get smacked in court.
Called this number back. Female voice says "you have reached our number removal system"... a sure sign of telejunker.
This number has called 5 times already today: 2008-01-07 1143h, 1252h, 1405h, 1445h and 1626h ET. All toll-free numbers go straight to voicemail without ringing my phone, but they didn't leave any messages. Why bother calling so many times in one day and not even try to leave a message? Can't be that important. I suspect these jokers are probably working on behalf of one of the companies I do business with.
See also whocalled.us for details on how to get even with ICT.
Relates to whocalled.us (ICT Group). Want to get even with ICT and make them double-pay for their annoying silent calls/hang-ups? 1-800-201-1085 is the inbound number from their website (ictgroup.com). Skype this number after 5:30PM Eastern Time - their Sales and Marketing voicemail will answer - press 0 and you'll get someone else's voicemail. Press 0 again for the operator and it will just ring and ring. Stay on the line and rack up their toll-free.
More desperation: 2008-01-03 09:25:58 and 2008-01-03 09:26:26. I guess the OOS message doesn't throw them off.
Inbound number for Canadian Bonded Credit - see also whocalled.us whocalled.us whocalled.us
See also whocalled.us - may not actually be out-of-service, but a faked message.
This is CBCL aka Canadian Bonded Credit Limited, a debt-collector, calling for someone else, so I took a message and got a callback number of 1-866-526-7793. Skyped this number and a guy answers the phone with "CBCL" after half-a-ring. Calling back 416-753-2095, I get 2-3 rings followed by SIT tones and an out-of-service message. Sounds fake to me (in that the number really is in service - see whocalled.us for another example of faked OOS messages from this debt-collector).
I called this number back 2 days ago and kept getting busy tones. Tried again today and call rings and rings for 2 minutes, then gives me a fast busy. Sounds like a 2-bit telejunker with not enough lines to spare.
See also whocalled.us - apparently, it's a phishing scam: "It has come to our attention that an unscrupulous telemarketer is using our name in a vishing scam. Because they use caller ID spoofing, it appears that the call is originating from our office. They pitch a wide variety of financial products and ask for personal information, such as credit card data, bank account numbers and social security numbers. Do not give them any information! They are attempting to capitalize on our name. MCS Financial Advisors does NOT make telephone solicitations nor is it involved in the activities described by these telemarketers. Report them to the authorities!"
It's not "NCS", it's "MCS". Skyped this number back and got an announcer, saying "Thank you for calling 1-866-MCS-WEALTH". Skyped the mnemonic (1-866-627-9325) and got the same announcer. It's a credit-card debt reduction company. They left a blank VM this morning. Anyway, according to MCS' website (mcsfa.com) this number is being spoofed in a "vishing scam" (I think they mean "phishing"): "It has come to our attention that an unscrupulous telemarketer is using our name in a vishing scam.

This number calls periodically. Out of curiosity and with time to spare, I picked this call up, but there was no answer after 3 "hellos".
@Tim: it doesn't matter what your charitable status is - you've been asked not to call. It should not take an email to get added to your DNC list. Further, why would I trust a telespammer with my email address? Are you these people too: whocalled.us and whocalled.us ?
Another "you've won..." vacation scammer spammer.
Called 2007-12-12 ~1935h ET. Indian woman said that they had randomly selected couples for a special deal for a "resort in Collingwood". She then asked if they could call back tomorrow at 7PM with more details. I asked where Collingwood is (playing dumb to probe for more information - I know it's in Ontario) but each question was answered with "I am not authorised to give further details". Sounds like they are trying to get your permission to call, in case people on national DNC list try to sue them, even though they are already breaking the law with this first call. I'd like to know which resort it is, but I'm not going to give them permission to call, as they probably keep a recording to prove you gave them permission.
Someone punked these VA State Trooper telejunkers - youtube.com
CustomerLinx is the name of this telejunker, according to the announcer when I Skyped this number. Funny thing is that this company has tons of hits on Google, but not a single website presence. Probably a shell company of one of the ILECs.
Skyped this number - it is for "Family Reader Service". Sounds an awful lot like these people: ripoffreport.com - as others have stated, the CID sometimes appears as "CMTY READERS CL" which is an AKA for Family Readers Service, Family Reader's Services and probably short for "Community Reading Club Of The Firelands". The last name is apt - I hope they burn in hell.
Skyped this number back. Got straight through to a live operator @ ~1855h ET.
Called this number back - just rings and rings, no answer.
Yep, they're still trying to get through!
Yep, these inbreds ignore out-of-service messages too... called 2007-12-05 ~1745h and ~1830h ET.

Looks like each number calling from the 480-543-xxxx pool is specialising in each of the scams-du-jour. Vacation scams, energy slamming and telephone slamming.
These futnucks have called twice in 3 days - 2007-12-01 1420h and 2007-12-03 1720h ET.
Most of these telejunkers' CID name is usually "Unavailable" but this one came up blank. Definitely not going to pick up the phone to find out who this is.
These inbreds called again this morning. Should've blocked them the first time!
This number called twice on 2007-11-28 (~1000h and ~1100h ET) and left blank voicemail messages. Called this number back and lady answered on first ring with her first and last name, no company name. I asked which company this was and she said "Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association". I asked her if she actually worked for this association and she said that she worked for a fund-raising company on behalf of this association. I asked her which company (fund-raiser) that would be and she said "Siris Solutions". This is another telejunker that has been lobbying the CRTC: crtc.gc.ca.
Called this number back. Female voice on announcer says "Thank you for calling the fund-raising information line...". Not the standard MO for Xentel, so it sounds like this FOP lodge has contracted a different telejunker to most of the rest.
Also, Jack, if messages are too long for here, you can split the messages into chunks.

Second only to the "charities" that pester us, the biggest in-bred family of telejunkers are the local Windows/Doors/Conservatories/Duct Cleaners. Canadian Choice Windows, AKA Toronto Windows & Doors, are another bunch of telespammers. No answer when calling back 416-848-9478 - according to windowscanada.com, their inbound numbers are 416-848-6930 and 1-866-807-8064. 1750 Steeles Ave West #15-16, Concord, Ontario, Canada L4K 2L7; Fax: 416-848-6929; E-mail: sales@windowscanada.com
Skyped this number back, it is for "24/7", "twentyfour seven" or some other spelling variant. Announcer says "Thank you for calling 24/7 - we are a service bureau serving the private sector. If you would like your number removed, please leave a detailed message with your name and number, including area code, and your number will be removed within 48 hours".
Called this number back - it is for "Deluxe Windows of Canada".
Another bunch of ass-hat telejunkers who ignore out-of-service messages. What we really need is for the FTC and CRTC to provide a toll-free number to auto-redirect telejunkers to, in much the same way as auto-fwd'ing email spam to the FTC at spam@uce.gov for investigation.

Looking at the long sequence of numbers in the CID, perhaps they are the same perps of whocalled.us and whocalled.us
Looking at the long sequence of numbers in the CID on whocalled.us it seems my VoIP could be truncating the "V" prefix. Perhaps they are the same perps of whocalled.us and whocalled.us
FOPTL41 another Xentel tentacle, inbound number from whocalled.us.
This is Xentel Inc (aka Xentel DM) telespamming on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police, Troopers' Lodge Number 41. See whocalled.us and whocalled.us for more information.
Crazy-ass telejunkers - 5 calls in less than 1 minute, all from "90560": 2007-11-20 11:25:39, 11:25:47, 11:25:54, 11:26:02 and 11:26:10. All 5 calls auto-fwd'ed to an OOS number. They must be desperate.
Called this number back - it is definitely for some outfit calling themselves "The Home Based Business Centre", as confirmed by Denise on 2007-03-21. Just wanted to double-check, as these types of "businesses" tend to be fly-by-night and change names often.
Funny that the automated messages tells callers that they recently signed up online, yet even a cursory Google search on the name or number yields only the same sort of reporting pages as this site, plus blog-city.com
sickkidslottery.com 416-514-2103 is another number.
Called this number. It is for the Sick Kids Lottery - got through to a live person at 2235h ET!

Skyped this number and got "[SIT tones] we're sorry, your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and try again". Why call from an unreachable number (ie faked CID) if there's nothing to hide?
Probably these perps: tninetwork.com
Calling back, get a message: "Hello and thank you for calling the general information line. Sorry we missed your call. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave your name with area code and phone number after the tone....". A posting on another website claims that this is someone canvassing for donations from MADD. According to The Toronto Star - thestar.com - MADD uses "paid telemarketers" (AKA professional fundraisers as the telejunkers-for-hire like to call themselves). Update on MADD cleaning up their act is at 416-777-7777.com but it still looks like they use telejunkers.

Another "Congratulations, you've won a free vacation..." robo-telespam (tele-scam, actually). Probably the same clowns as whocalled.us
Called twice today: 2007-11-17 ~1055h and ~1310h. Another telejunker who ignores out-of-service messages. Almost tempted to unblock them to see who the hell is presenting such an egregiously fake CID and expose the perps.
Update: this is actually an inbound number for Xentel's events (ticket sales, etc). Still, these numbers need to be documented so that even if it does not appear on CID, if you hear an automated message quoting this number, you'll know who called you.
Tied to the Mississauga Fire Fighters' Association: iaff1212.org
Xentel DM called again on the following dates and times (all EST):
2007-11-15 ~2120h
2007-11-16 ~1840h
2007-11-17 ~1205h
It appears that the Mississauga Firefighters' Association is using these criminals to solicit funds. I wonder how much of the money the MFA gets and Xentel keeps?
Called again 2007-11-15 ~1800h ET. Another telespammer who ignores "out-of-service" messages.
Calling this number, get an out-of-service message. This number called 2007-11-13 ~1925h ET and got auto-forwarded to an OOS number.
Called on 2007-11-12 ~1830h ET and go auto-forwarded to an OOS number. They called again on 2007-11-13 ~2000h ET. Seems that this telejunker also ignores telco out-of-service messages. This probably explains why people with brand new cell-phone and home phone numbers get tele-spam within the first few days of getting the new number.
3rd time within a month (2007-10-20, 2007-10-27, 2007-11-10). Whoever it is, they are ignoring "out-of-service" messages that my VoIP forwards them to; just like an email spammer who ignores 5.x.x SMTP messages.
Called this number back. Got an announcer, stating that I had reached an automated number removal system. Classic telejunker sign.
Amusing... when I call this number with blocked CID, I get "We're sorry... blocked calls to this number cannot be accepted" after 3-4 rings. Looks like even tele-spammers don't like to receive anonymous calls! ;)
Funny... if I Skype this number, I get an immediate message saying that this number is not available from my calling area (that would be 202 for Skype). If I call with my VoIP account, I get 3-4 rings, followed by SIT tones and a "this number is not in use" message. Sounds like a fake message, as usually SIT tones happen straight away. Unlike most FOP telejunk calls, this doesn't fit Xentel's MO, as their toll-free numbers are callable from anywhere, Canada or US.
Inbound number for yet another Xentel DM/Xentel Inc "FOP" tentacle, from whocalled.us
Yet another tentacle of Xentel Inc/Xentel DM. Calling 561-666-8534, I get the same Xentel-esque announcer (1 second blast of elevator music, followed by the familiar diatribe of "fund-raising efforts are now well under way and we will be calling you back [...] Calling you is the most cost-effective way to reach our goal". Announcer advises to call 1-800-326-1949. Skyped this number - same dorky Xentel guy as per whocalled.us
Gotta be the same perps as whocalled.us and whocalled.us !
Yep, they are calling every day for the past 4-5 days and never leave a message (my phone doesn't ring for toll-free calls - my VoIP shunts them all straight to voicemail).
If you're a TD customer, they will contact you from time to time under the "existing business relationship" rules. I called them tonight to update my privacy options with them which should stop them calling.
My VoIP shunted this number to an out-of-service number. Time will tell if this telejunker ignores out-of-service messages.
My VoIP shunted this number to an out-of-service number. Time will tell if this telejunker ignores out-of-service messages.
This number is sometimes displayed when relatives from overseas call through a long-distance plan.
Inbound number for Xentel DM/Xentel Inc, soliciting on behalf the numerous "FOP" organisations. From whocalled.us
Only 1-up from whocalled.us - gotta be the same perps! Suspect this is the Spanish-speaking junk call and whocalled.us is the English one.
Only 1-down from whocalled.us - gotta be the same perps! Suspect this is the English-speaking junk call and whocalled.us is the Spanish one.
I doubt you're being tele-spammed by Google. Most likely a search engine placement telejunker.
Actual CID is 1-866-709-1329. They've called 2 days in a row, once a day. When Skyping this number back, I get an automated message announcing the "IVM Automated Customer Service Line" with an option to enter my number to remove. If I stay on the line, the announcer goes on to say that the fax number I entered is invalid (didn't enter anything). Sounds like a fax spammer scanning for active fax machines.
Not with Bell... haven't been with them for over 2 years, so they have no business calling. Called them back and requested to be added to DNC list - they were calling to try and bring us back over to them. Got the standard 30-day DNC turnaround nonsense response. Told them if they call, they will get auto-redirected back to their toll-free number.

Calling this number back, get a busy tone. This "W & D" name appears in our call logs 1-2 times every other month.
Robo-spam message begins with "Congratulations, you've won...".

Hmmm, see whocalled.us - bet it's the same perps.
Probably the same perps as whocalled.us
Inbound number for Canadian Bonded Credit - see whocalled.us
Fake caller ID used by Canadian Bonded Credit (number is not in service). They call our workplace ~1-2 times a week. We got a toll-free callback number out of them: 1-866-637-7780
Inbound number for Xentel DM, from whocalled.us
This is yet another tentacle of Xentel DM: pownetwork.org
Inbound number for Xentel DM, from whocalled.us
Asked for "the lady of the house" - classic Dove Foundation MO. Called this number back - got a scratchy "out of service" recording that did not sound genuine.
Called this number back - it's "not in use" (not in service).
Not going to pick up the phone with a CID number like that!
Not going to pick up the phone with a CID like that!
Calls 1-2 times per month. Calling back number, message is "not in service".
See whocalled.us for an example.
@Shawn & logan: unless you are certain that every penny goes to these "charities", I would suggest not giving your credit card information over the phone. Fund-raising for a number of these so-called Police "Fraternal Orders" and "Activities Leagues" are done by Xentel, telejunkers-for-hire, who will raise the $100,000 for the "charity" and keep the rest. Once you do donate, expect to be bombarded with other Xentel campaigns from numerous different "charities" with different CID names and numbers.
This is definitely another tentacle of Xentel. The voice on (773) 920-1784 is different to the usual dorky Xentel guy, but the words are almost exactly the same as Xentel's standard announcer (see whocalled.us for a transcript). This number advises callers to phone (800) 584-5341 for more information. The announcer on (800) 584-5341 is the same Xentel guy. It seems that all the FOP lodges are associated with Xentel.
Weird... thought I logged this one before. Telejunker trying to hawk VoxCom Security System.
Called this number back - rings for about a dozen times, then answers with fax/modem. Probably a fax spammer hunting for fax numbers.

This is a "Free Call Line" operated by the Toronto Sun. It masks the true number of the person calling through it.
This is yet another number associated with Xentel DM - an unrepentant telejunker-for-hire, specialising in "fund-raising". Skyped this number - same dorky-voiced announcement as per whocalled.us
Skyped this number: it is for The Fund For Public Interest Research: ffpir.org
Another inbound number for Xentel, collecting "on behalf of" another quasi-charitable organisation (State Troopers). See whocalled.us

Can't wait for Bill S.704 to be passed: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:SN00704:@@@L&summ2=m&
Probably the same perps who occasionally call from 90560 and 90754. Just auto-fwd them to an out-of-service number.
So, folks, that's calls from 514-315-5006, 514-315-5004, 514-315-5002, 514-315-5003, 514-315-0513, 514-315-0512 and 514-315-0514. May as well just block 514-315-50* and 514-315-05* - set and forget.
Not telejunk (at least not AFAIAC).
"Hi, this is your local radio station. If you'd like to have your number removed...."
Called this back. Got a long pre-recorded diatribe from Dan Anderson @ "Forever Green International", about how this company is exploding in growth - 700% over the last quarter, blah blah. Googling around, looks like another MLM scam.
Called - announcement stated that the company is Portfolio Recovery Associates, a debt collector.

Josie: *67 will not hide your caller ID to a toll-free number - they can see your ANI information. Best way to investigate these perps, is to use Skype or a payphone.
Called the number - it is definitely for "Education Advance".
Called 877-372-3495 and number answered right away with faint music and the sound of a headset being placed down. Sounds like your average telemarketer - kicking their feet up in a dead-end call centre job during the night-shift. So, I put through a loud, echoey "hello" sound sample, which caused the phone to ring onto a Card Processing Rep. Still don't know who this is.
Held on for about 5 minutes to see if anyone would answer with a company name (and not some vague name like "Fah/Fraud/Frahd Detection Center". Eventually, the hold message said that they were experiencing longer-than-usual call queues and that I should call 1-877-372-3495 to speak with a Customer Service Rep.
Calling back, says company is called "First Horizon".
This is a debt collector that does not identify their company name.
Calling back, get [SIT tones] followed by "You have just dialled a number that is not in use."
Called this number back - it is for Liberty University's Distance Learning and Graduation Program.
Called this number back - definitely GE MoneyBank.
Calling back, says that their "offices are now closed" (but not who they are) and that they are open Mon-Fri 7.30AM-8PM CST. Funny, at the time of calling, it was 6:25PM CDT. I guess telejunkers think we're as stupid as they are.
Definitely for Rogers Communications Inc. They use a predictive dialer for these types of calls, which is only half as annoying as their voice-activated IVR system. Probably relates to 416-446-4105.
Calling back, I get SIT tones, followed by "We're sorry, you have reached a number that is disconnected or is no longer in service."
Callback to this number gives a half-ring, followed by busy tone.
Not a telejunk call (as we sometimes donate old unwanted items to the CDA). Just logging this number for the collective intelligence.
Added these clowns to my call blocker the last time they called. My VoIP account shuffled them to an out-of-service number, so perhaps they'll get the message this time.
Called this number back. Unusual ring - stops and stops will long pauses in between. Answers with "You have reached the telephone number removal system" but doesn't say who for.
Called this number back - it is for HOOPP (hospitalsofontariopensionplan.com)
Gevalia aren't limited to telespam - they've also been dabbling in email spam (in 2005). One more reason why I don't buy Kraft products.
prnewswire.com
Calling back, get stright through to someone, who announces the call as "Discover Card".
Confirmed - callback states it is Crescent Recovery, "trying to collect a debt", apparently.
Inbound number for Xentel DM, collecting "on behalf of" The Arizona Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). Maricopa Lodge Five See comments on whocalled.us
This is Xentel DM. Called this number back via Skype. It is for the Fraternal Order of Police - Maricopa Lodge #5 (azfop5.com).
The automated message advises to call 1-800-710-8749. When I called 800-710-8749, I got a one-second blast of music before the same deep-voiced guy from the (800) 710-8741 number made a similar announcement. Then the familiar dorky voice of the guy from Xentel DM takes over with menu options. Compare the second voice to that on 1-800-308-0094.
Calling this number back gives 3 rings, followed by fast-busy tone.
I'm a Rogers customer. 1-888-764-3771 translates to 1-888-ROGERS1. Leaves 2-second blank voicemail messages - very annoying, probably using a predictive dialer, even for customer service calls (if that's what it is).
I'm a Rogers customer, but I don't know why they would call and not leave a message. Probably using a predictive dialer.
See 877-406-4895.
Calling this number back, gives 866-757-4771 as an alternate contact number.

Calling back, says: Emerald City Lending Group. eclg.net
Calling back gives message: "Welcome to AT&T Customer Service". AT&T are long-time telespammers.
Calling back gives fast-busy. No reputable company calls from a number that can't be reached.
Calling back, gives message in French (only).
Calling back, message says: "Welcome to Resource One, a support line for Securian Financial Group Representatives".
Calling back, hangs up after half a ring.
Calling back, says "This mailbox is full - no new messages can be accepted - thanks for calling."
Fast-busy on callback.
Looks like a UK cell number.
This is Xentel DM, an incessant telejunker that collects on behalf of a number of [quasi-]charitable organisations. They agree to raise a certain amount for the "charity" and keep the rest, just like the telejunkers who call from 713-862-1260 (although probably not the same perps).
Calling number gives: "[1 sec burst of music] You have reached our automated information system. You're probably calling one of our toll-free numbers that appeared on your display phone. Fund-raising efforts are now well under way and we will be calling you back to explain the programs we have for this year. Calling you is the most cost-effective way to reach our goal. If you prefer, contact our Customer Information Centre at 1-800-254-3163. They will be glad to provide you with any further information. Those phones are staffed 9AM to 9PM Eastern Time. Goodbye for now."
This is Xentel DM. Compare the same dorky voice and message content by calling back this 800-307-3697 number and 800-308-0094.

This is the CID/ANI for calls originating from Skype. I found this out by calling Enbarq [1-888-723-8010] via Skype and their system tells you which ANI you're calling from.
Calling this number via Skype, gives me customer options for Enbarq.
Calling back this number via Skype, says: "Thank you for calling Chase" in English, then Spanish.
Called these idiots back on their toll-free via Skype. Left a nice long voicemail message on their system (3 mins of music) before their voicemail system told me the message was too long (but it saved it anyway, apparently).
Yeah, like I'm really going to pick up the phone with such an obviously faked CID number. Here's a transcript of the voicemail these clowns left: "[4 secs silence] Hi, this is Gordon with the Travel Center. You've been selected to receive 5 days and 4 nights in Orlando, Florida, near Walt Disney World. Plus 3 days and 2 nights in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and an all-inclusive Bahamas cruise with cabins, meals and entertainment for only 3 hundred 99 dollars Canadian per person. Congratulations - this trip has a retail value of over 29 hundred dollars. The confirmation for your invitation is offer 7-6-7 and you need to call the Travel Center in the next 24 hours, toll-free, at 1-800-832-4670. That's 1-800-832-4670. Call as soon as possible, so you can enjoy your Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Bahamas dream vacation. Thank you."
Rang off after 4 rings, a telejunker sign (we don't pick up unrecognised numbers and phone has to ring more than 4 times in order to go to VM). No answer when I call the number back.
+44 [UK]
(0)20 [London Area]
8886-1375 [Subscrbr Num]
Specifically, (0)208 is Greater (not Central) London.
Another clue is that both 480 and 623 is Arizona. Also, after call-bloacking (480) 543-1023, that number doesn't call anymore and this number (623) 238-6131 started calling today. Too much of a coincidence. We'll see what happens after I call-block (623) 238-6131.
Silent call. Looking at comments, I'm betting that it's the same perps as (480) 543-1023. Same "Energy Group" type calls; probably running the same scam.

DALLAS - An NBC 5 investigation reveals most of the donations to the nonprofit Texas State Troopers Association end up in the pockets of telemarketers, not state troopers.
Video
NBC 5 obtained documents filed with the IRS that paint a disturbing picture. Of the $3.6 million the Texas State Troopers Association raises annually, 75 percent goes toward fundraising expenses, and according to IRS documents, nearly $2.8 million goes back to the telemarketers, not the state troopers."

Another number that leaves blank VM messages. Calling number back gets automated message "Please enter your party's 4-digit extension number".
Leaves 50-second blank VM messages.

Yep, a 5-digit CID *REALLY* makes me want to pick up the phone. These idiots blatantly fake their CID and call 1-2 times each month. Also get calls from "90560", which are probably the same perps.

Calls several times a week and leaves blank messages on my VM. Now my VoIP call fwd's them to their own toll-free number.

Looks like another Xentel: telejunkers-for-hire who collect on behalf of non-profits (even though the telejunkers themselves *ARE* for profit). They basically agree to raise a certain amount for the non-profit - anything else over and above that amount, they keep.
Looks like a telejunker-for-hire, but not sure as I did not pick up.
Called but rang off after 4 rings - classic telejunker sign. Called number back - automated message states that they do market research and customer satisfaction surveys. The message also said that we did business with one of their clients recently and this was a follow-up call to check our satisfaction. I don't need these types of calls - if I'm not satisfied, *I* will call.
Actual CID numbers are:
112595140000002 and 112595146936415. Calls from one of these two numbers 1-2 times per month. Not picking up to find out - both numbers are on my VoIP blocklist.

Just another local telejunker trying to sell windows or doors. CID was a clear enough sign not to pick up the phone. Just noting all these telejunkers from my CallBlock list in case I have to add them back in at a later date. Most of these local telejunkers (especially the Windows & Doors ones) only call once.
Just another local telejunker trying to sell windows or doors. CID was a clear enough sign not to pick up the phone. What is it about these Windows & Doors companies that gives them to propensity to telespam?
Called only once. Not going to pick up to find out who it is - number is permanently on CallBlock in VoIP account. Probably the same perps who call as "416" (just 3-digit CID).

Just another local telejunker trying to sell windows or doors. CID was a clear enough sign not to pick up the phone.
Calls 1-2 times a month. CID is sometimes (180) 094-9993 and sometimes (800) 949-9935. Called this number back, pressed 2 and asked operator for their website URL: startec.com (verified that "tec" was spelled without an "h"). Have them on Selective Call Fwd back to their toll-free number.
Calls 1-2 times a week. They never leave a VM. Found company name when Googling on the number.
Calls between 1 and 2PM every day Mon-Fri. Have them on CallBlock list, since looking up the number on whocalled.us :)
Did not pick up, due to suspicious-looking CID. Hung up without leaving VM.
Called 2007-10-01 ~17:50ET - no-one there. Googled on their full name and got this page: ripoffreport.com which lists 905-608-9244 as an alternate number.
