The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want

Click and silence, presumably a stupid autodialer.
They've called me 6 or 8 times. Every time I asked them to remove me from the list—they humour me for a second but quickly hang up on me. Once called back and went through the automated removal. Don't bother.
Called again, that's 4 times in 3 days. I was told again that I'd be placed on the DNC list.
Calling the number back allows you to place yourself on the DNC list.
Selling car warranties. Already told me they're removing me from their list twice. Idiots are calling Canada where they can't even sell.
Automated dialer speaking to me in a European language: mentioned "Makedoniya" so I assume it's Macedonian. Dialing the number returns a fast busy signal.
Calling back gets to a mailbox that hasn't been set up yet.
Robot saying "congratulations, you have won a cruise!" They said they removed me from their list twice, weeks ago.
Energy Research Group, calling to ask some questions about radio stations. When I asked to be removed from the list, the caller hung up on me.
Two calls from this number this morning: a hang-up, and a sales rep who called after I had added my number to the do-not-call list.
The rep said she removed me from the local list (I don't know why that had to be done twice), and explained that it would take 30 days before I was off the list at all Rogers' call centres.
In the meantime, I will fantasize about a wonderful future in which the phone company uses a technology designed not to phone random people and hang up on them.
Rude supervisor said they are calling from Tacomah, then hung up on me.
Rude operator refused to remove me from the call list and hung up on me. I am waiting for a call back from a supervisor.

J.C. Christensen's telemarketing department, with their broken dialler, is conducting a campaign for Autodesk software. Their calls go out displaying the phone number for J.C. Christensen's collections agency, who didn't know what was going on.
If you are a current or former Autodesk customer and you are getting calls from this number, you can let Autodesk know what you think of their telemarketing contractor, and ask them to add you to their main do-not-call list. Autodesk contact info: usa.autodesk.com.
This caller sounds like a fax machine trying to connect.
Calling back yields a fundraising message from the Canadian Police Association! You would think these people would choose not to break the law, i.e., the CRTC's rules on telemarketing.
Calling the number back gives a recorded message, including another number, 800-716-0809, which lets you get on their do-not-call list.
They also have a toll-free number, 877-272-7729.
I spent a bit of time getting forwarded and holding, was told I am not in their system, even though they called just 30 mins earlier, and got hung-up on once by a rude phone guy.
Finally, a helpful supervisor offered to try to track down why their system was calling me and clear it up or call back.
Autodialler trying to get you to transfer your credit card debt. Repeat caller. Misleading message makes it sound like you have an account with them. Stupid machine dialled with no one available to talk to me, so I left a message asking to be removed from their list.
