The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number,
All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want

Hi Guys-

I work in telephony software, so I have some pretty good experience with this stuff. 000-000-0000 is likely a number of different people calling. If you are getting that on your caller ID every day then it probably the same company's autodialer. If you are getting the call more sporadically and meet someone else who sees the same caller ID there's a good chance its actually two unrelated companies.

There are many things that go into the caller ID being correctly passed, and if there's a failure between the company and your phone you very well may get the 000 000 0000 as the caller ID.

Something else to note:

-It is illegal to misrepresent yourself w/the caller ID.
-Legit companies doing surveys/marketing/customer care never block their caller IDs. It makes privacy managers more accurate and doesn't make sense from a customer relations perspective.
-Collections & Healthcare can (and in the case of healthcare MUST by law) block their caller IDs.
-If a collections company uses dialing software to pulse 000 000 0000 on purpose, that's against the law because its misleading. If they simply use the block caller ID feature you have yourself, that's NOT against the law.
-Caller IDs are sold and purchased by data warehouses and local telcos. If you live in a remote area or have a second tier phone company, they may not purchase the caller ID info for some other regions. That means you are much more likely to get 000 000 0000. Its not the callers fault, its your cheap-butt teleco.
