These people are using Obama (Stimulus) money to make phone calls. They probably get paid for every phone call they make.
This is the same scam used by card holder services.
Doesn't it make you feel warm and fuzzy to know your tax dollars are paying them to do this!

This "NRA" is the National Recovery Agency. They are a debt recovery quasi-legal scam outfit and have tons of consumer complaints against them.(See: West Virginia AG Settles with National Recovery Services). In my case, they ask for an unknown party and despite telling them that person is unknown to me, they have continued to call several times per day for several months, now. I have filed complaints everywhere and am on the DNC, but nothing seems to work. Very frustrating.

They didn't identify themselves and I thought it was this collector company that keeps calling here looking for someone with a similar not not same last name so I didn't press 9. I called the number back and a machine identifies the number as that of the NRA and says "sorry we missed you we had some updates" which usually means they are in need of or want donations to fight the war that has been declared on our first and second amendment rights under the Bill of Rights. I already belong to the NRA and I donated $500 as I value my rights and I can't stand liberal weenies trying to take them away.

Since they bothered me with a phone call at 9:13 AM, and since the caller ID says 'unavailable', the Salvation Army can go pound salt. These jerks who solicit donation by phone just don't get it, same way with these politicians. I'll be on the phone again with my Congressman tomorrow bothering him because they are the ones who make the rules allowing this BS. The Do Not Call registry is a complete joke, it has not worked since day one. I keep a log of all my phone calls and not one number I have ever reported has been discontinued, beside the telemarketers purchase hundreds of numbers and simply use one for 2 weeks and then go on to the next number. The SOBs at the phone company refuse to block any numbers unless you purchase another option but like I said, the telemarketers just move on to another number.
Obama's going to fix things though. He's allowing telemarketers to now call cell phones. Way to go.

A number change is an extreme and unnecessary response. To a ''not me'' case I always recommend putting the collection agency on notice, just as you would if you were the target and the debt claim was invalid. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with return card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. This will set a legal landmine, as such a notice is ignored at their peril. This can also help pull the agency under the shadow of TCPA, which carries treble damages for ''willful'' violation.

A man's voice thanking me for my support. Wasn't asking for anything; just saying thanks! First time I ever received a call from them, and haven't heard from them again. Salvation Army is one of the few charities that spends most of what it collects on the needy they serve; somewhere around 93%. The reason they're picky about items they accept is that they re-sell them and use the proceeds to help the needy; they can't sell beat-up junk.

You've set a good example, Seattle. Only extract and avoid giving information when collectors call. Documenting and recording calls is also a good idea. It's possible T&K is skip tracing for a stranger if you never see a dunning letter and you remain mystified a week after that first contact.

Irate and Grace: Probably these are skip trace calls for someone else. If so, send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one. Calls on Sunday or any day are legal under federal law. Only your state law could overcome this.

Nicholas: Your reading of the FDCPA is flawed. (1) What the statute calls ''continued collection activity'' prior to validation is illegal, that much is true. However, the 30 days is for YOUR response time to a dunning letter. The temporary cease-comm enacted by your written dispute continues indefinitely until validation is sent. The agency can silently sit on your dispute for a week or three years or until death and never respond.

(2) The FDCPA imposes no such specific restriction on the number of daily calls to the alleged debtor, only vague language about disfavoring a harassing or annoying pattern. Certainly I would consider a barrage of calls every eleven minutes on average harassing.

Eileen: The collector is obeying a privacy mandate within FDCPA, a sore spot for lawsuits.

Annoyed: The seven year FCRA time limit for reporting of accounts to the credit bureaus has NO bearing on the ability to collect for them. Each state has its own Statute of Limitations for different debt categories, the true legal "shot clock".

Well, that covers a lot of ground, but there is always more to learn. If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and the means to sue at low cost. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

Central States Indemnity markets "supplemental insurance" ... read as "useless way to drain your savings". The few complaints I've seen regard aggressive sales tactics, trying to trap people into monthly billing which will be nigh impossible to stop. (Same problem with bogus dating sites, Video Professor, and countless other crooks) Presumably they obtain your data from your credit card issuers and attach themselves to not-really-free credit report services.

I suggest, if your are a Dish customer, call them, get through the infernal answering routine of theirs and speak to a rep. They were very good with me. I didn't know there was such a "No solicit" list with them. If it is legit it's VERY BAD business practice. Hope Dish takes complaints back to the source. Godd luck everyone.

New year, same old lawbreaking from T&K ...

If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the Federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, and collectors can be sued for their crimes. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

These arrogant morons continue to break two laws stated in the FDCPA code.....

1. After not validating the debt owed, they continue to call even though the FDCPA states that they arent allowed to call for 30 days after neglecting to validate debt, this was 3 days ago and i have recieved numerous calls from them, which brings me to the next issue......

2. Debt collectors are allowed one phone call a day, lastnight Nov. 26, 2010, they called me 8 times between 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm.....

This has got to stop, these people will continue to illegally try to get money from people if we dont stand up and put them out of business....

They replied "It is a business matter, asked me again if I was me and stated my name and the last four numbers of my social security number. I asked again what kind of business they were and got no answer. I told them I refuse to talk to them if they can't tell me what kind of business they are. I also asked them not to call me again and to take me off their list. If they call again, I plan on reporting them to the Attorney General. What concerns me is that they have the social security number.

Salesman was real put out and would not give up. I may use them once I get more facts to veify thier claims but I will always walk away from any sale that uses this type of pitch.

July 9th, 2010 good in KC KS

I had American Exteriors into my home to bid out my windows. I know there are less expensive windows out there and there is a reason they are less expensive. Most of them are junk sold by general contractors. I had a general contractor in my home to sell me simonton windows, his display window broke while giving his pitch! I did my homework before the rep came out. Had other bids from Pella and Renewal by anderson. American Exteriors bid was 5000 less and I have saved up to 75/mo on electric and gas bill. Definetly a good company to work with. The sales rep did say it was a "tonight only deal" But if you do your homework, like their product and the bid is good, then why not sign the same night? I would recommend American Exteriors to anyone in the Kansas City area!

We made the mistake of using this company and they were so unprofessional it was pathetic. From the minute they drove up with my thousands of dollars of windows in the back of a junky old pick-up truck to the day they left with our lawn covered with debris. I could go on and on about the damage they did to our home and the many ways we were lied to by our salesman.

THIS IS OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ABOUT POLICE FIRE VETERAN"S AND CHILDREN'S CHARITIES. It can happen anywhere and when it does we would love to hear from you. revjames@pfcl.org www.badgefraud.org

As for the group on this page, it would be a good idea to let your fundraiser know we are out here and now you know that we are looking at them too. I would not let them misrepresent because the first time they do and we catch them, it's all over with but the crying.

Officer Down Foundation,

This is a message from Rev. James revjames@pfcl.org of the Holy Land Spiritual Church Inc. in Maryland and its integrated auxiliary Police Fire Crimeline (The Badge Fraud Tip Reporting Hotline) www.badgefraud.org

I am only going to tell you this one time. Don't you dare come out here on to this or any other board and try to say you are trying to help fallen police officers. You are not trying to help anyone but yourselves. You think I am going to let you talk to these people who are trying to protect themselves from you in that condescending manner. Let me see if I can explain this to your two week on the job backside. Officer Down Foundation's program is to teach Crisis Chaplaincy to Chaplains, it is not to provide benefits to the families of officers killed, they only pitch that because their real program would not get them one single donation, and every time you say they are providing benefits to families of officers killed it is a lie and a misrepresentation and is potentially criminally actionable against you personally as well as your bosses David Fair, Paul Kutac, Phil Leconte and David Deriks.

I will bet you did not know that those are the same group of guys that run the Police Protective Fund and American Association of Police Officers and the Junior Police Academy. These men are so honest and hard working that even after several states sued the pants off of them they had to go out and start another identical fake charity. Remember "Operation False Charity"? Yeah, wow, they were part of it, and now look at who has come to defend them and their new carbon copy of the Multi State proven fraud the Police Protective Fund and by extension The Crisis Chaplin Project.

You, a person that I already know has maybe 2 weeks experience on the phone. I am going to offer you some sage advice from one of your elders in what is left of that industry. GET A NEW JOB! This one is about to disappear.

Now, you have called into 6 of my 50 states and misrepresented yourselves, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and North Carolina and that is a problem for your organization because that is where my organization is located and our mission is to protect charitable dollars specifically raised in the name of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty. Now let me tell you what my organization does. We search out and report fraudulent Police Fire Veteran's and Children's Charities and their professional fundraisers. We protect the money of the people who protect us.

If anyone reading this wants to help with a donation for us to keep going after these scams, feel free to email me and lets talk. revjames@pfcl.org And unlike David Fair attempting to claim 501 c3 status before it is granted, Churches, like the Holy Land Spiritual Church in the United States are granted automatic 501 c3 status so you know you can deduct your donation from your taxes when the law allows.

We also recruit former professional police fundraisers as volunteers to help us go after groups like yours and you would be welcome to join us as well. And we always want to hear any tips on fraudulent activity in public safety charities so we can report them too. The days of diverting money from non profits and charities that really give their money to the families of officers killed in the line of duty, are OVER!

What a coincidence that would be huh? A church and a Minster going after a Chaplain, I would say God called one of us and the other has a big problem not just on earth, but after life too.

Do you know how much easier our job would be if your Officer Down Foundation did not exist?

I am not the kind of minister you are probably familiar with that gets up on Sunday morning to preach about Fire and Brimstone. I am the kind of minister that BRINGS Fire and Brimstone to your doorstep.

See the problem for your organization is that because of your fraudulent activity, you are making us expend our donor’s money to investigate you because you see, that is what OUR donors (Holy Land Spiritual Church) gave their money too and they knew full well that they were giving their money for us to go after groups like yours.

That would be the exact opposite of your group where the donor’s think they are giving to the families of officers killed in the line of duty but what you dont tell them is that the money they donate is really going to David Fair's personal mission of this "Crisis Chaplain" concept.

Well if you did not know we existed before I am not surprised, they never tell you phone jockey's anything, but you are about to know we exist now.

It is our duty and responsibility to protect our donor’s money and the only way for us to do that in the case of the Officer Down Foundation is for them to shut down voluntarily or we must sue the pants off of your group until you are ended. Oh and that is not all you have to look forward too, in North Carolina where you are calling, what you are doing is considered to be a class H felony.

Liviticus 6-2 to 6-5

When any of you sin and commit a trespass against the Lord by deceiving a neighbor in a matter of a deposit or a pledge, or by robbery, or if you have defrauded a neighbor,

or have found something lost and lied about it—if you swear falsely regarding any of the various things that one may do and sin thereby—

when you have sinned and realize your guilt, and would restore what you took by robbery or by fraud or the deposit that was committed to you, or the lost thing that you found,

or anything else about which you have sworn falsely, you shall repay the principal amount and shall add one-fifth to it. You shall pay it to its owner when you realize your guilt.

Started receiving daily calls this week. I answered the first time but got no response. Last couple days, when I pressed speaker to answer, I immediately started pressing ## over and over, as quickly as I could.

It hasn't worked, since I still rec'd call following day. I understand doing so confuses 'machines' and removes your number from a database. FYI, that's worked for me in past.

A site I checked before whocalled.us, informed me the toll free no. belongs to AT&T. Why would a phone co. be harassing people this way? I want it to stop, whoever it is. I'm on the Do Not Call list. I refuse to call the number back.

This is the number from The American Cancer Society. They're very aggressive about reaching out to the community for help with the fight against cancer. I read a note from someone further down, and they said ACS calls more if you've donated in the past. Which is not necessaraly true. He also said that the only way to stop the calls is to stop donating. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!! That is not the way to stop calls. The ACS is extremely important in fighting this disease. And the ACS cannot continue without the extremely generous people that do donate. The next time you get a call, if asked, the agent has the ability to limit the calls to one time a year. Or they can remove you from the system with a note saying DO NOT CALL. but please don not take the advice to stop donating. www.cancer.org

I did some checking on these guys before they came out and regardless of their "do-or-die" marketing program I know that an upsca;e window runs about $1300-$1500 where I'm from. they came in WAY less for an comparable product. Could I have I got a cheaper window? Absolutely. They do provide an upscale window slightly above a builder grade price. I've been pretty darn happy and I'm a cynic at heart.

First of all, correct me if I'm wrong, know one has a friend named "Name Unavailable" so why answer in the first place? Second, if you are on "The Do Not Call" list you know firsthand (if you actually read it) that charitable organizations are exempt from such list. To be quite honest, I'm on the list and all I get is charity calls. The list stopped the solicitors but started the charities. And the reason we take the bigger portion of the proceeds is because were hired by the charity to do the fundraising
just think 600 employees to call the entire country we use computers, lights, gas, water, everything we have all these bills to pay then to pay us. We have to pay our bills just like you do we only do as were told you cant blame us. Half of you people we call if given the opportunity would be doing the same thing to survive the economy. And the care packages don't go out blank the actual charity not us professional fundraiser has the list with the names of soldiers.

I received a call about 9:30 this morning (Saturday, April 24, 2010). I declined to make a donation and the caller started making a big push by talking faster and talking over me even though I insisted that I wasn't going to give any money. Then he started getting rude and telling me that these people (Navy veteran's) are dying for me. Again, I said I was sorry but I wasn't going to give. He continued to talk and then I said I don't like to hang up on people but.... At this point, his tone of voice was extremely rude and he said, "I don't either." He then hung up on me. I will never give to any association or anyone who behaves in this manner.

I offer my sympathies to those who have lost a loved one. However, this organization definitely doesn't have the substance of character that we find in the people in the armed services.

Received a call from 866-441-3070. They identify themselves as the "Coalition for Medicare Choices" and give a DC address. It is a robo call that asks you to "push 1" to be connected to your Senator's office to ask them to stop cutting Medicare services. It would be very interesting to see who is funding this, I suspect health ins. companies. The legal info on their web page references "America's Health Insurance Plans ("AHIP") " as the legal entity at the same DC address. Further: "Welcome to AHIP’s web site. America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is the national association representing nearly 1,300 member companies providing health insurance coverage to more than 200 million Americans"

I wasn't here to pick up on the call but they did leave a canned message. The guy said he was calling on the behalf of the Salvation Army. They were looking for donations of clothing, furniture, and other household goods to be used at a new rehabilitation center in Portland, ME. He went on to say that if I had anything they would be glad to pick it up. All I had to do was call the 800 number to have the pick-up scheduled.

I don't have problem with this outfit or other non-profits but I wish these calls as well as political calls and survey calls could be prohibited by the FTC. Oops, lost my mind. Politics would always override common sense.

February 25th, 2010 LKP

DECEPTIVE call from a front for the medical insurance industry, asking me to just push "1" to "join" the Coalition for Medicare Choices to stop Congress from cutting my Medicare Advantage benefits. THIS IS A SCAM OF THE WORST SORT - trying to scare people about the health insurance reform that Congress and the President are trying to pass, to make health care affordable for everyone. It'll probably cut the outrageous profits the health insurance makes - while they increase rates by nearly 40% so they can make more profits. Then they will use the results from this "poll" to prove how many people don't want any health bill to pass.

I stayed on long enough, this time, for them to ask me to push "2" if I wasn't interested. Hopefully they won't call back. In the meantime, I'm telling my Congresswoman about this call.

Got a call at my work phone number from 888-346-9068 claiming to be SunTrust Credit Card Fraud dept. Gave my correct name and correct last 4 digits of my card. Asked me to call back at 877-348-6420. I called back, they asked for my credit card number and my name. I gave them the last 4 digits and name (which they had stated to me) but no way was I giving them the full number. The woman then asked for the phone number they called me on, and I told them. (So far giving them only what they already knew, but nothing more). She then claimed to have trouble finding the account, gave a different last 4 digits, which I said was incorrect. She then asked again for the full card number. That's when I hung up.

FYI - if you have any kind of account that is past due, many of these 800#s are 3rd party collection agency calling you from 8am - 9p your local time. They're legally allowed to call those hours 7 days/week. If you know you owe, don't pick up the phone boneheads. Don't answer it, even better idea - unplug it from the wall.

The reason why you may be getting calls from several different companies holding the same account is that they buy your account from the originating creditor, so yeah, 3-5 companies may be calling you for a debt that you've already paid in full. Be prepared to mail/fax the bloodsuckers copies of how you settled that debt. They go by Tate & Kirlin, Nationwide Credit, Gurstel Staloch & Chargo among others.

This phone number belongs to Nationwide Credit which is a 3rd party collection agency. I know they collect on Lane Bryant accounts and probably dozen of others. If you have past due accounts that are 6 months past due, this is who's calling.

I said 'yes' to $20 but figured I would check the situation out when the envelope arrived. I won't be sending the check after reading all these testimonials but sure wish the FBI would get them since this constitutes mail fraud. Judging by their mailings a lot of money has been spent setting up this scam.

I let the answering machine take it. It sounded like a small child or feeble woman muttering names incoherantly from a distance. I thought at first a friend's toddler accidentally called me.

I called the number back. A recording came on and said they were dish network. The recording states, ei you want to stop the calls, press #2. hope it works.

Called again today and - big surprise - left no message. These losers can call til the cows come home, ain't ever gonna be answered!

January 26th, 2010 Ruth WA

What a total scam this one is. The recording at the number is for the Coalition for Medicare Choices and advises callers to leave a message with name, phone number, address, etc., but then cuts the call of after the "goodbye". I have e-mailed requesting that my number be removed from their list and have also been continuously redialing the number hoping to run up their bill. It probably does nothing, but it does provide some satisfaction.

January 26th, 2010 Ruth WA

Blah blah blah. Sales pitch asking people to let their senators know not to cut the Medicare Advantage play and offers to connect caller with his or her senator. I wish congress would re-think allowing this type of call to escape the "Do Not Call" list. It is annoying and offensive and I will let the coalition for medicare choices know what I think of them. You will notice I commented on 10/12 that I had asked them to remove my number. Oh my, imagine that! They didn't do it! I'll ask again.

January 25th, 2010 Kit VA

Have gotten several calls from this #, never leave a message. If it's so friggin' important you have to call me 3-5X per week, leave a message! And show your name!! In the meantime of course, I will never answer. I think it might be time to turn my answering machine off during the day...that seems to stop them for awhile. Also, if you belong to AARP, call them and ask them to remove your name from their databases; they give member names to "providers" THEY (AARP) think have worthwhile services. I told them that was a bunch of crap, these jerks prey on senior citizens. Fortunately I'm VERY savvy but I'm sick of all the stupid insurance calls/snail mail/political garbage. Also told AARP if I don't see a drastic reduction in calls/mail within 6-8 weeks, I'm canceling my AARP membership. Who, ESPECIALLY senior citizens, needs this crap and annoyance?!!!

They keep calling my cell phone for a debt of my fiances. They started calling two days after we received a bill from Allied Interstate which is the company handling the debt. Now why would two companies be handling one debt especially if the debt is being paid!? Hmmm.... Quite odd and how did they get my cell number??? So I told the guy who called on Saturday that they could send to me via mail and the guy instantly started laughing at me and telling me to do whatever I wanted to...I told him to just send me the info in the mail and I will take it from there.. He continued laughing and repeating himself... I told him not to call me again, I have read about there fraudulent acts and scams online, they are not acredited by the BBB, etc... I told him to send paperwork and if they ever called again I would sue them for harassment... All I received was continuous laughter and the same response to do whatever I wanted to... They have five days by law to send me the paperwork I requested otherwise I can file a lawsuit... They continue calling from about 15 different numbers. I either ignore the calls or answer and say nothing. Next time I will blast music in their ears and see how they like it... I do Accounts Receivable for a living... I would never do any of the stuff they are doing... Just continue ignoring their calls... If i know the number is someone I want to speak to I answer otherwise they can leave a voicemail... These people only leave a voicemail if it is your house number... Check other posts on this company by reading up on the other numbers... You will find complaints for each phone number...

These fools are really bad. I have a blocker, so, there is no inconvience on my part, but, can't help wondering where the government is with the don't call list. They pass these laws...everyone feels like heros and then they do nothing to enforce them. Dirtbags....

I just got this call as well. He kept on insisting on spilling out his promotion even when I insisted he put me on their DnC list. It is mandatory that they stop right away as soon as the person says this but in most cases, they don't. In a lot of cases, the DnC list only lasts for maybe 3-6 months then your number is put back into their "buckets". The "gentleman" was definitely NOT from Florida. I'm guessing their outsourcing to India for these calls now.

They have been calling all day. I live in MA where there is a special election coming up next week. Looks like it's some pollster wanting to know who I'm voting for based on what people have said in the past about this number. I can't wait for this stupid election to be OVER.

The top three numbers all occured in one day...the 3071 number twice, the 1670 twice and the 8009 number once. Sent them a nice email telling them to stop calling or I'll be taking Mary's advice :)

This perp might not be associated with the the owner of the number but found a free usage of it. It is a private party that has accessed the federal DNC database or a downloaded copy of it. There are currently some 47 locations that have this pirated copy on their auto dialer and are changing their location periodically. There is no economic value to what they are doing since virtually no one will give personal information that permits identity theft. Eventually, the feds will catch one in violation of the statute and give the sociopaths involved a slap on the wrist. Local Committees of Vigilance may be the cure for sociopathic harassment, the same as they are for highjackers on the internet. If you find the location for someone doing this in your community, not easy, be sure the local media know about him.

I received a solicitation for a donation over the telephone from someone saying he represented the U.S. Navy veterans and wished to send a care package overseas. I immediately declined the request because I had never heard of this organization. I guess I was right to be cautious.

American Exteriors might be one of the many window companies out there that call repeatedly to get an appt. set with us the howeowners. though their marketing plan might have holes in it, I have found that most window companies operate with the take it or leave mentality when in our homes. So you ahve to take the good with the bad,I guess. I did buy their windows and couldn't be happier.
