The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number, All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want

seatlewa calls from 3 phone numbers:
Supposed political survey - but telemarketer of cruises. Opt Out (press 9) does NOT function. Shut these people down!

Reported as a DNCL violation
I have 5 to 8 calls a day. I have called everyone from phone companies to banks and nonone cares. The no-call lists are not stopping these criminals.
Same scam, different version from those reported here prior. This crap has been going on for months. Early on the front name was ''ESA Research''. Now the given business name is ''Political Opinions of America''.
For those just tuning in, these junk calls disobey the Telemarketing Sales Rule since the callers don't bother to scrub for DNC registrants. The FTC says: ''Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the Do Not Call provisions.''
I did keypress to ''decline'' the survey, which I realize won't stop the calls and may encourage others. I have other plans for this poser. My transcript follows, delivered by a melodic male voice in ''FM radio'' mode:
''Hello! This is John from Political Opinions of America. You have been carefully selected to participate in a short thirty second research survey, and for participating, you will receive a free two-day cruise for two people to the Bahamas, courtesy of one of our supporters. Gratuities and a small port tax will apply. To begin the survey, please press 'one' *now*. To decline the survey *and* be removed from our list, press 'nine'. Thank you!'' [silence 02.5 seconds] ''Hello! This is John .... '' [entire message repeats]
[02s 25f passed in silence, I hit '9'] ''Thank you for your time. Your phone number will be permanently removed from our list.'' [silence 01 second, caller disconnected]
- ''carefully selected to participate'' = carelessly spammed with others in a block of phone numbers
- free Bahamas cruise: That's an excessive payment for half a minute of labor, not to mention highly presumptive. A week in a floating hotel is just not a good time for everyone.
- ''Gratuities ... small port tax'' = Hand over your credit card numbers and your better judgment.
- ''one of our supporters'' = a whole gang of affiliate marketers eager to harvest your phone number
- ''removed from our list'': They don't have a list to start with. They are building one for lead generation through these deceptive calls.
No msg left by the caller.. When I called back....it was a robotic female and it was about a survey, to which the time for that survey had expired.. She then said if I wish to be removed from future surveys, press 1. I pressed 1. Let's see what happens in the future.
Annoying calls from this number every day for the last week. When you answer, no one speaks and the call disconnect after 5 seconds.
When you reply to the call, it's a "survey" and "the survey time to respond has expired"?
Since I use Google Voice, I am able to block this number from now on. Thank God for Google Voice!
Call and hang up all the time. I called it back today, received a message saying it was for a travel survey, and if I wanted to opt out of future calls I could push 1. Once I did, the message said my number would be removed from all future surveys.
PACIFICTEL hung up on machine
Assholes! I keep getting calls from this #, pre-recorded message about a political survey, I just hang up although would love to jump through that phone.
This is those people who do the fake survey and then try to sell you a free cruise vacation you won. Don't read it twice, it's right. They also call from 503-468-5935. I just changed my voice mail to avoid my name. They are jerks who violate telemarketing laws by pretending they are doing a political survey. In reality they are scamming credit card numbers, getting your personal information and selling it to other scammers. When they call and no one is there, they are building a list for their new fake phone number, so they can start calling from there instead of the old one, because people are on to them.
Political survey with cruise for participating. Hung up
Call my NYC office direct line. Hung up as I picked up.
Didn't recognize name or number so let it go to voicemail. They left no message.
They said I would get a free two day cruise for participating and then hung up before I got the cruise information and details!! www.hellonchurchstreet.net
left no message
no message. I have an unlisted number that is never given out. I do not know how they got it.
Other web sites indicate that it is a automated political survey and/or offering tickets to a cruise in exchange for taking the survey and they indicate the call is really from India and not the Seattle, Washington area (206 area code.)
Company calls me everyday including Sunday. Likely the Star Tribune wanting to renew my Sunday subscription. I will now cancel it!!!!
This company calls from several area codes. I tried calling back, but it rings and disconnects. Seems fishy if you ask me.
I suspect this call was from the Star Tribune wanting to renew my Sunday subscription.
Verafast called twice. Once on Saturday (08/07/2010) and again today, Sunday (08/08/2010). They claim to be representing the Minneapolis StarTribune Newspaper, offering free home delivery of a newspaper product available to non-subscribers in certain zip-codes only. The address and zip code data they had was not correct, and the phone number they called has been on the Do Not Call Registry for more than 6 years. Furthermore, I've contacted the StarTribune several times over the last several years and told them not to call me. So, they 'farm it out' and have their henchmen call me instead. Verafast is, in my opinion, a scam-artist company that hires people to make telemarketing calls from home to support the dying newspaper industry. This includes starting subscriptions, collections, follow-up calls, etc. To date, they have ignored my do not call requests, and I have filed complaints with the FCC at: esupport.fcc.gov and the Do Not Call Registry at: complaints.donotcall.gov I can hardly wait for the political stuff to start ramping up....
The calls started 7/31/10. The Do Not Call isn't working. I am not answering the call because I have not given out my phone number. I do have the option of blocking the caller for a certain price but why should I have to pay to do that?
The calls started about a week and half or so ago. They call 8-10 times a day. One time it was well after 9pm. The Do Not Call list isn't working, there is no one on the other end of the phone, and it is daily. As I am writing this message, it is not even 11am and I have gotten 3 calls already. Anyone have any ideas on how to enact some "phone-rage"? It is getting ridiculous.
why do u keep calling? who are u looking for?
Hello this is a service verification. We will call you back later.
I called this number back. It called 3 times in a row today. There was an automated answer that said if I was not interested in future calls from them for specials (something) then I could hit a certain button to be put on a do not call list. I'm already on the do not call list!
They have called several times and because the area code is out of the area, I don't answer. They don't leave a message, either.
The robo message said that they had repeatedly tried to contact me abut lowering my credit card rate and that this was my last chance to do so.
