The phone is ringing, and I don't recognize the number, All Caller ID says is, "NAME UNAVAILABLE".
Please help me figure out who is calling and what they want
Nationwide Insurance |
nationwideinsurance calls from 14 phone numbers:
Yep, its nationwide. It was a follow up to info that was provided on the Nationwide Website.
An it's hilarious to see people's comments about this, I used to think the same things of these "annoying scammers" until I started doing telephone surveys as a job and now I hate my life, I've had some of the rudest and outright most vulger things said to me, and mind you ive worked retail and customer service. To answer some questions if you want them to stop calling you have to let them state where they are calling from and why and most of the time just say "not interested please remove me from the list" and people will, there are however jerks that won't. Also if you are rude to someone those people you are rude to can get mad and set you up for a bunch of callbacks in one day. We also are not allowed to leave messages unless given an 1 800 # for people to call back that's why we don't. A lot of times to, the computer system handles all the #'s callbacks and we just literally press keys on the computer basically sit at a computer and a call will pop up, we don't have some big book we call from. We never who we are gonna call next, and sometimes even when you "take a number off" it ends up back in the system and it's very frustrating doing my job when I'm getting yelled at for things I actually have no control over.
I actually work for a company that calls regarding the Pertussis and HIB vaccination study, someone told me to come on this website and see what people are saying. I can actually say the research is true and they are just people in a call center doing their job.
Unsolicited call to my Cell Phone from Nationwide Insurance
I did NOT request quotes for anything but have been getting calls saying I did.
I requested an online insurance quote from Nation Wide. About 2 hours later I received a phone call from a number I did not recognize. When the phone stopped ringing my voice mail notification sounded. It was Nation Wide so I immediately called back and asked to be removed from their call list. The representative stated that she could not remove me from the list. Instead I had to answer the phone next time they called & then tell them I not interested. Only then will the phone calls stop. I asked if there was anyone above her who has the authority to remove me. She stated no. I explained that something has to be done because I am on a pay per minute plan and every time they leave me a me a message I am gonna be charge to check it. What if they call if I am not available? At that point she asked for my phone number & said she would email it to her supervisor to see if there is anything that can be done. Let's see what happens.
Well, this # called again (must've just missed them, I was outside a minute) and I called them back (their office was closed and they called, hmmmm.....) I left them a not so friendly note saying "stop calling people during dinner and while they might be in bed with your %^$@ research! No one cares!"
Now.....see what THAT does.
I found on another site that this is a marketing company. The owner and CEO is Dick (for sure) Weese, his wife Karen is the VP. It is based out of Boulder, Co. They call all hours of the day and night and weekends including Sundays.
These people have called me daily for the past week! I've asked them to NOT call me any more...but still the harrassment continues! Hate the bastards!
recvd phone call on my cell phone from Nationwide Insurance. Automated message trying to telemarket their insurance.
13 March 2012 -- 11:54 am -- Called my cell phone. Left a "robo" message, but did not wait for the outgoing message, so their message was unintelligible. Learned from another website that this is Nationwide Insurance robocall.
This number called on Sunday afternoon around 4:22. The caller ID says "Research Center." I didn't answer, and they hung up after three or four rings
Steve Dogan, I use that trick. I add a bit more to it though, "_________ Police Department, Fraud Division. How may I help you?"
As usual, when I didn't recognize the calling # I answered the phone saying: "_____ police department." All I heard him say was "Ahh....ahhhh....I got the wrong #." and he hung up!
BOY! Does that technique work! Half the time it scares the heck outta' these telemarketing, survey, etc. people! :)
I just always answer the phone: "______ police department". (See, we're a small town and don't have one, so I can do that!) :) BOY! Does THAT get rid of them in a hurry!
These people are annoying. They call any time, any day. Never leave messages so I know its a BS call.
I'm using the airhorn idea. I actually bought one last year, but was talked out of using it. Next time they call, SUPRISE!
Calling with a survey about immunization rates. Said I was on do not call list, but caller said survey calls weren't required to follow DNC rules. I huffed, I barked; afterward I checked into it and it is true. While survey calls are annoying, they are permitted.
This brings up an issue that annoys me in every election cycle. Pols were careful to carve an exemption for themselves out of the DNC law, but I am less and less inclined to give to a political wh0re who calls people he/she represents or hopes to represent against their will. Snail mail may be more expensive, but it's not as annoying for the recipient.
this mufa f___er keeps calling F___ him
i keep getting the same phone call.ever nigth a the same time.i really wish they would stop calling my home phone.
Have received MANY calls from this number over the last few weeks. VERY ANNOYING!
Unknown, but caller ID shows "Research Center". We are on don't call list. How can they keep calling??!!
The usual - no message just the call and caller ID.
If you have a verizon smart phone, go to the app store and download norton utilities, it includes call blocking for free !!!
hey you guys someone keeps calling me from 720 214 0442 they are a major scam
this co is nuts
(continued). YOU HAVE TO REMOVE YOUR NUMBER SEPARATELY FOR EACH "STUDY" YOU'RE "SELECTED" FOR. I've already remobved my number 2-3 times through their website. Each time, calls start up 3-6 months later, supposedly because I've been picked for another study.
Oops, last message cut off. As other people have mentioned, you can go to their website (diresearch.com) and ask to be removed from thie list. HOWEVER, note that there is fine print that says something to the effect that the removal only applies to the study you were picked for. So...if you are

this telemarketing service thinks it's a game calling people in all hours and not answer when you pick up the phone so i told my friends to call this number anytime they feel like it to see how these people like to hear the ringing all day and night. 303-415-9830.
This number is very important for the survey. but it is not have any matter related to the survey.
Don't care who the heck they are. I don't do surveys. I don't accept any kind of solicitation calls. NO MATTER WHAT OR WHO IT IS ABOUT! My opinions are my own. Piss me off and I will tell you about it. Leave me alone if you don't want to hear me bad talk you. This is what I tell these kinds of jackalopes.. You can fill in all the right words. I am sure they do.. Dumb Arses!
Another annoying solicitor who does not comply with the NDNCR. And they don't have enough respect for their targets of solicitation to leave a proper message or to STOP CALLING.
We answer. They hang up. We answer. They hang up. We answer. They hang up. We answer. They hang up.
I hate these people. Their computer dialer should catch a bug. Today, I answered "Just another B&%% S&*! call" and, oh, they hung up.
Calling a cell phone number that is on the Do Not Call list. Verizon wants an addition $5 a month for the ability to block junk calls on cell phones (????????). Argh!!
I got a call from this number. I answered it I said hello, the male caller asked me how my day was going? I said fine. Then he asked me if I spoke english? I said obviously yes I do. Then he said oooh sorry there's a lot of noise here. He wanted to "ask me some questions to see if I qualified for their survey"? HUH? I told him I'm sure I don't and hung up.
i just called the boulder,co number listed on this site "gary answered.I verbally ripped him a new asshole.he said"please be advised per federal law i have 30 days to comply with your "do not call request".if they call again im going to start calling them 20 or 30 times a day .id like to kick Garys ass.you hear me gary, you POS!!!!
So, don't ever request an online auto insurance quote thru Nationwide Insurance unless you want your phone ringing off the hook. I've received 4 phone calls in the last 2 days (beginning at 7am) from them and they NEVER leave a message. It's reasons like this why I don't give out my number. Ugh.
I have received several calls over the past couple of weeks .
We are on the national & wisconsin DO NOT CALL lists but it doesn't stop a company identified as TRIANGLE calling from 414-291-9031 from calling .
Scammers like thes people rarely pay their taxes. At a minimum they are required to file returns if they are carrying on business in the state. Severe penalties for failure to file.
I'll report them to the IRS & Wisconsin DOR. They need the money :)
We just recently got a new phone number and this company has been calling us off-the-hook. We have asked to be removed from their list MULTIPLE times. Just tonight, they told us that asking to be removed from the list that we actually get put into higher rotation. I don't understand what is wrong with these people, but we are definitely reporting them to anyone who might listen. I HATE scam artists which I am sure that these guys are. Ridiculous!
Called number back. Recording states they are research center out of Calif & if I wanted any information about my credit to push a number.
Have received 6 calls so far in last 2 hours and they won't leave message
Received call from 703-291-9031/Research Center - caller ID, at 4:22 p.m. on 11-3-10. Well educated female voice wished to pose questions regarding vaccination. I declined, thanked her and terminated the call. Then went to website, www.diresearch.com clicked on contact and on bottom of page clicked on removefromlist@Diresearch.com. Entered requested information to remove my number from their call-list.
They keep calling me and I finally went to the website provided by one of you wonderful complainers and removed my # from Their call list. The code is Case Sensitive so type it directly as shown. Otherwise it will say "Code is invalid". One try is all it took me. I also registered a complaint with the National Do Not Call site!!!!! and Hey.......thanks for the Scum bag Owners name and Phone #. I so far have called it 10 times!!!!! How does it feel idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALRIGHT, now we are getting somewhere!
The company is called "DIRECTIONS IN RESEARCH", and they are based in San Diego, CA.
Their employment line is 858-707-6094, although so far every trick I have tried only shows that the number (like the 9031 number) is unlisted, but they DO have a website:
from which I was able to pull the following information

Received a call from this same number on 9-13-2010 around 12:50 PM. After answering the phone, the caller just sat on the phone and hung-up. Apparently, this company or whom ever it is, has not been taught any phone etiquette.
Please stop calling.
Who are they? Why are they calling?
Call blocker is my friend. :)
Called me today. Hung up as soon as it detected my voice. When I called back I got a recording offering to sell me insurance or remove my number from their list. Reported to DoNotCall.gov
They call all day long-three or four times a day and evening. When I answer they hang up. I want them to stop calling!!!!!!!!
Go to Diresearch.com. Click on the "contact" link at the top of the page. On the next page click on the "removefromlist@Diresearch.com" link at the bottom of the page. Enter your phone number the and code. The code is cASe sEnSitiVe so read it carefully. I had no problem.
I called the 303-415-9830 that I saw posted by Joyce. The guy who answered was named Zach, he immediately asked if I wanted to be put on the do not call list and asked for my number. We'll see. I'm amazed anyone answered, it is almost 9pm.
They call us on a regular basis. I never answer my home phone any more if I don't know the number, as 99% of my calls are things like this. I went to their website at www.diresearch.com and entered my number. I will see if it takes me off the list. Will report back here later.
They keep calling in the early AM until the late PM many times daily with no message.
Someone who gave her name (can't recall what it was) and said she was calling for the firm of Chadwick, something-I-didn't-catch and Bailey and they were conducting a health care survey in our area (Virginia). I said I didn't care and hung up.
I get calls from these folks every day 3 times a day. The one time i did get a human being on the other end I told her the according to the FCC they have to do what is called a TCPA deletion of my information from there system to stop contacting me. Since I am the identified owner of the phone account and they verified it was me they should have stopped calling. That was 3 weeks ago, they still call in the same pattern every day. My next step is a notarized letter to stop all calls to my number and then if they continue it will become harrassment and my lawyers will then take over and hopefully I can get them to pay me for all of these idiotic calls.
I've received at least 13 calls in 7 days from these idiots. Has raised my blood pressure to the point I'm about ready to explode. If I could fly out to Denver and go to Dearborn Data, they would hear words they have never heard before. JUST STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
I too am being harrassed by these people on a daily basis. I just called the 303-415-9830 number and Christine apologized and said she'd put me on their do not call list, we'll see. I told her next time I would report them to the ftc.
since new # in early june i receive 1 or 2 calls every day allat different times
Go to this website to check these people out. Scumbags. www.ripoffreport.com/Internet-Fraud/Directions-Research/directions-research-inc-tell-m98fd.htm
I'm getting a group of people together to terrorize and kill family members of Dearborn Data employees, owners and stock holders. Anyone on this complaint board wanna join?!?
Just for fun, if you are working or living in an environment that you could do this in, answer the phone whenever a suspected telemarketer is on the line. If you hear a real human voice and they start their shpeel, hold a gas charged air-horn to the phone & blast them for a second or two! You can get them from amazon.com for as little as $7.00 for the 1.4oz can or under $30.00 for the 8oz which will last a very long time if used in short bursts. Refill 8oz cans are about $16.00. Free Shipping often available on orders over $25.00!
Even if it's a recording, wait and see if a human takes over the call or if there is an option for them to start recording you, then blast them!
Don't get mad, GET REVENGE!
This number calls my home every day at 10 am and at 8:30 pm. When I answer the phone there is no one there. The caller ID reads Dearborn Data. When I call the number back the voice says "This phone number is no longer in service." Currently, I have a stalker named Trisha Pimm. Thought is was her. I still am not sure it isn't.
i also think is scam they keep calling the also calls a sound the do not leave a message when your answer the phone you can hear anything the other side.
always call dont leave message a thiink is a scam
calls every nite,Very annoying I have a man with cancer and it keeps waking him up
I just received a call from this number and called it back. They claim to be from San diego, cal.
Some crazy survey about voting. Called my frigging cellphone multiple times
Line just buzzed then a hang up. Called back "dearborn Data looking for Bill Wilson (?) Claimed he called and spoke to him yesterday.
how can i get this number to quit calling mine?
no one ever speaks to me and they call me all the time?
More annoying callers who don't leave messages. Obviously not a very important call. I love caller ID, I use it to my advantage without getting worked up because then "they" win.
These people have been calling at least 5 times a day, including weekends, for the past few weeks. I don't answer, and they never leave a message. I called the number back and got the name Directions in Research. I googled it, and found their web site. It says: "Directions In Research is a market research / public opinion polling company, whose sole purpose is to collect opinions from the general public in the areas of telecommunications, healthcare, finance, technology, public opinion and many other areas. We do not do any sales solicitation of any kind and therefore in accordance with the DNC guidelines are excluded from the "Do Not Call" list. We are very grateful for the good will of the general public in the daily course of our operations. However, we do not wish to be an annoyance and we will remove your telephone number from the research project for which you were contacted. To do so please click on this link - removefromlist@Diresearch.com"
When I tried to remove my number from the list, I was directed to enter one of those codes. The code was easily read, but when I entered it, I was told that it was wrong. I tried at least 5 times, with different codes each time, and always the code was invalid. I've never had problems like this with these codes on any legitimate site, leading me to believe that they are not as reputable as they would like people to believe.
I requested an insurance quote on line and it looks like they keep trying to call me: 4 times in 2 days.
Says it's a research and marketing
Now I'm getting calls from this number on my unlisted phone line which is registered on the do not call list. Intellius info:

how do you stop these phone calls
who is dearborn data and how do you stop these anoying phone call
I'm tempted to call them back and just remain silent. Or maybe tell them I'm from some research firm calling for a survey... And then just keep calling till THEY block MY number.
hang up, no message, 1 call
Annoying - "Directions In Research"
To remove your number from this company's list, click: www.diresearch.com
This company called "DEARBORN" had called atleast 4 times in the last two weeks... I called the number back today and got a recording that stated " The number you have reached is not in service... this is a recording..." When I answer the phone for them they never answer you and they just hang up...
No response or anything - I tried calling the number and there is a recording that says this number is invalid.
First, make sure you sign up on the National do not call list.
Next, file a report against them with the FCC... the calls will stop!
i answered no one on the other line
These people called claiming that they were collecting information about vaccianations. Would I be willing to answer some questions about my baby's shots...(ummm no) for $25.
Hey, thanks for that info SERVITBACK!! I can show them how to creat FAKE info, if they want a taste of their own medicine. I will gather household items in my house and creat a fake person - that'll show em!! Bunch of morons!
Let them call again, I will participate!! I will give them all FAKE information!! Lets see how they like that!!!
I called that number back, and they say they are based out of San Diego, CA, but the number is listed in Triangle, Virginia. They are a marketing research company! LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY!!!!
I am so sick and tired of getting calls from this so called RESEARCH CENTER until I am ready to shoot somebody! Well, not really, but if they don't stop, I will make it seem as if I did! How annoying, they never leave a message, they call numerous times a day, and call anytime they feel like it! STOP already!!! The telephone company needs to do something about this, because consumers should NOT have to put up with this crap!!!!
I get call and hang up and then had comcast call me to state that they were checking if my number was take?? WHAT WAS THAT? It also shows up as dearborn data. Seems to be a call and hang up for me several times as well
didn't answer, never do.
They called to follow up on the service I received at an insurance company recommended body shop.
Went out a picked up one of those freon charged air horns, people use on their boats. The next time these 'people' feel lucky, they are welcomed to call, and make my day, Punk...
Went to the Diresearch.com address. Filled out the info needed to stop all this, and was informed (3 times)that the security code was not valid!!!
Why am I not suprised???
They call every day, often multiple times, and never leave a message. I have had a bad cold all week and can barely talk, so I don't appreciate getting out of bed to answer the phone for "research center."
This number calls at least once a day. They leave no message and have hung up on my husband when he's answered. I called the number back today and it states it is a market research firm based in San Diego. It asks you to enter an extension or push 5 for immediate service. The 5 does absolutely nothing except tell you the recepionist's desk is closed (in the middle of the business day). I pressed 611 for a directory listing but it asks you to enter the first three digits of the person's name, so I just did Smith. Pablo Smith's extension is 6006 but it never transfers you it's just dead air. You are able to leave a message when pressing option 5 so I left a message asking them to take my number off their call list. How irritating!!!
Get calls from this number almost daily - when I answer - there is no one there. Can't tell if they hang up prior to my answering or if they hang up just as I answer. I have let the phone ring as many as 6 or 7 times - no matter how long I let it ring, when I answer there is no one there.
I missed the call several evenings in row. I answered today and it was a rep calling for a follow up on the service provided through my insurance company as I had been in a car accident.
I answered when this number called today, there was a pause and then the caller asked for Jeremiah.
I told the caller that there was no Jeremiah here and that he had the wrong number. Then he hung up
on me. It's obviously a telemarketer. They are so invasive, they're just another form of data miners.
Really makes me sick. What's this world coming too?
I called Boulder Calls 303-415-9830 and asked to be removed from the call list. It must have been successful, have not received any calls since.
Called to Boulder Calls 303-415-9830 told me that they do rate quotes and asked if i would be interested. i said none whatsoever they said i would be removed off of their lists immediately
Call hang up.
Once again, no message. They have called me serval times. If they don't leave a message I am not going to call them back. Also, I do not answer calle ID's I don't recognize.
In addition, I also have Comcast.. Anyone know someone who works for Comcast that can do a little inside undercover work for the rest of us annoyed people??..
Today when they called I answered and there was no one there, and just dead air and when I call the number back it tells me "The number you have reached is not in service, this is a recording 2820" .. I get these calls at all hours and usually ignore them.. I thought today I could get a live person and tell them to STOP CALLING ME !!!
I am going to call the 303-415-9830 listed in others comments and hope I can get them to stop.. Thanks for having this web site.. Maybe the insanity can stop..
They have called three times today. The third time I was home to answer the phone. Claims to be "Betty" of "Marc Research" doing research on children's vaccination ages 2 mos. to 13 mos. Refused to give any more information. Was told by supervisor to hang up. This fake "Marc Research" called many times a few months ago and was ordered to stop calling my number. This is the seventh time that they have called since 17 October 2009. According to several web sites this is a scammer pretending to be a collection agency pretending to do "research" in order to collect information on potential victims. It is obviously not a real research organization. These callers claiming to be "Marc Research" are complete idiots. The real M/A/R/C Research is at www.marcresearch.com and does not even have an office in Virginia. It is a subsidiary of Omnicom www.omnicomgroup.com The scammers also use the number 712-941-2323 ("Joy" of "Marc Research".) The fake "Marc Research" idiots have now called at least 13 times.
My personal belief is that this is contributing to identity theft in this country. What's the purpose of these calls? To sell something? So they call a hundred people and 99 of them get angry because it's unsolicited (or they're on the do-not-call list). Just one person bites on what they're selling. Isn't that how identity theft works? Phishing scams go out to thousands of people. One person believes they are getting a message from a trusted source, clicks on a link and responds to it and BAM! An identity is stolen (hopefully, that is all that is stolen). If I used my phone to do what these people are doing, I'd expect to get reprimanded. Apparently, these people don't think the same way I do. Here's an idea, though (and I apologize if this has been suggested before). They had to purchase their service from somebody. I have to pay for my phone. So why don't we penalize the service providers for selling their service to someone who uses it for, oh I don't know, calling people on a do-not-call list or, more importantly, IDENTITY THEFT??? I'm guessing the provider(s) won't do anything because that will affect their profitability. Reputable service providers should be able to cross-reference calls made against a do-not-call database. If someone uses a listing of theirs to call a number on a do-not-call list, they are immediately suspended from operation.
"Dearborn Data is a DBA Name for Mainstream Marketing Services Inc, 3220 Prairie Ave, Boulder, CO 80301. The phone number for their office is 303-415-9830. The President of the Company is Dick Weese, the Vice President is Karen Weese."
This number has called me three times in the last two days
They keep calling me but never leaves a message. I don't pick up solicitation calls and this seems to be one of them.
Too many calls says "Contact this website to remove your name from the list. It took me some time to find it but they have their own do not call list. diresearch.com"
Why should I contact them, when I am on the do not call list? Clicking that link and adding your number just lets the scumbag know that the numuber is valid, so they can keep calling.
A Yellow book is an organization's annual report. I had a call yesterday to participate in a survey. The female caller referred to my boss and "peeps she'd like to talk to". Are you kidding?
Caller ID was 703-291-9031 Triangle, VA

This number calls about 4 times a day. Never leaves a message. I love caller ID.
Contact this website to remove your name from the list. It took me some time to find it but they have their own do not call list. www.diresearch.com
I have received an annoying call from this number. They kept on calling at least 5 time a day every day including evenings and weekends. Finally we picked up and asked what’s this about. She has mentioned about some Yellow Book survey. I told her my phone number was registered for DO NOT CALL Registry and she says that doesn't apply to them in rude way.
I cannot repeat what I said here, but I hope that puts an end those calls.
This "person/machine/spoofer" keeps calling incessantly during the day/evening without leaving any messages?????????
These people have been calling nightly for several weeks. We never pick up and they never leave a message. I'm thinking next time, I'll answer and tell then to leave us alone. It worked for the last annoying jerks who kept calling and calling and calling...
I sure wish these assholes would stop calling.I get so sick of hearing the phone ring constantly.
They said they were a grant funding company. Pure scam!
no answer, left no message
no message left
I don't answer, no message is left.
Got a call today, didn't answer...Just said "Research"
These scammers called today for the 6th time. This time I was there to answer the phone. The female voice identified herself as "Joy" and claimed to be with "Marc Research". She refused to give the address of the company and hung up the phone. The real M/A/R/C Research does not have any offices in Sioux City, IA. I filed an FCC 1088B after the fifth call.
I picked up the phone the last time they called, on Friday. A voice said something about hold for the next available agent. Then silence. I wait about 30 seconds, saying "hello" every few seconds but there was no one there. This scammer has now called five times.
I received a call from this number today. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a msg.
I spoke to them because they were calling from my bank - did i get scammed?
I answered by singing, "F*** You, F*** You, F*** You", the very first time they called, and immediately hung up when I was done. I think this may have given them the impression that calling me was a waste of their time. They haven't called back.
Note to "Been Frauded" You are right, but everyone should also be aware of Bud Hibb's web site.
Note to the "T-Mobile sold my number" crowd. Anything is possible, but it is much more likely that you gave your number to a third party you thought you could trust, and that they then gave it to the credit bureaus as part of their routine business activities, or that they shared it with a third party (customer satisfaction surveyor, bill collector, marketing research partner, financing provider, etc,.) who then shared it with a credit bureau or data broker. You have to be totally hard core about not giving your cell number to anyone. Here is an easy trick - get another number (landline, VOIP, you name it) and forward that to your cell phone. When you need to let someone reach you by cell, give them the number that you forwarded. That way, they can ring your cell phone, but if the number gets in the hands of a pest, you just "throw it away" by changing the number. Of course, one problem that you see today with any number you may get is that you sometimes inherit the previous owners pests, and they refuse to believe that the number has changed hands. Anyway, I only give my actual cell number to my family and close friends, and it has worked well for a number of years. Only junk calls I get on it are just being dialed blindly, and I get very few of those.
If you pick up the phone when it is "RINGING", it will more than likely be a collection agency on the other
end looking for any kind of info to connect you to an account or create one. If you see the number on your
caller ID and "CALL THE NUMBER", you will actually connect to the actual party that the number was assigned
It's called phone spoofing. This is mostly done by collection agencies. They pretend to be someone else
and getting enough info from you to create an account. Next thing you will get is a paper threat to pay
something in full or go to court. Some of us have been dealing with these bottom feeders for months and
years. We have programs that track and trace these numbers and then match them to the time and dates with
the phone company. None have matched the actual caller. They also spoof themselves as your neighbors.
Advice: take your bill or some proof to the phone provider and have them trace. If you owe money or have
ever in the past, you can bet places like these will be faking themselves as someone else to get the data
they need. Make note that these collection agencies can get a lot of info on people by accessing credit
reports. Type:"phone spoofing" in your browser or here's a site for a start:
en.wikipedia.org . Everyone should be aware of these activities for their own protection. Also see: "predictive dialers" and "VOIP".
Note: Known collection agencies that were tracked: NCO Financial Systems, Law Offices of Joe Pezzuto - Collect America, Cavalry Portfolio, Southwest Credit, Lowery Law Group-CACV and Portfolio Recovery Services.
Based on my iPhone call log I received a phone call this past Monday (06-29-09) at approx. 6:12PM PT that I did not answer. Then I was called by this same number yesterday (06-30-09) at approx. 6:16PM PT and that I did not answer either.
Then I received two more calls again today (07-01-09). One at approx. 6:50PM PT and the other again at approx. 7:38PM PT and by that estimate these two phone calls were 48 minutes apart. And each of these calls I did not answer as well.
Groo is correct per message below. These annoying and unwanted calls started coming in after recent transaction with cell phone provider. These calls had better stop. I am on the official DO NOT CALL LIS.
"You know,,,,ever since I upgraded my cellphone and service with T-Mobile I've been receiving all sorts of calls from survey companies or telemarketers. Coincidence? I think not. I suspect that T-Mobile has been selling out their customer list to telemarketers. Has anyone on this forum noted if these calls started to come in about the same time you had some sort of transaction with their cellphone provider?"
Received two calls about an hour apart from this number. The first time I answered, the caller hung up immediately. The second call was from a nervous-sounding woman named Emily, who claimed she was from Mark Research Company. As she was giving me her scripted schpeel, I Google'd "Mark Research Company" and came up with nothing. Big surprise. Emily asked if she was calling a landline or a cellular phone, said she didn't know what type of line it was because "we selected you at random".
Emily then asked if I was a parent. I said yes. She then asked if I was a parent of a child between the ages of 0 to 23 months. When I asked why, she stated that Mark Research Company was conducting a study to see how many parents in a certain area are vaccinating their children. When I said I wasn't a parent of a child in that age bracket, she said "Oh. Oh. (pause). Okay. Well. (another pause) Well, then you're not in this study because we're looking for children in that specific age range. That's when most kids are getting their vaccinations anyway." I corrected her - vaccinations don't stop at 23 months! She then became hostile and attempted to engage me in a debate about vaccination time lines. I bid her good evening and hung up.
They are calling again even though I told them on May 28 not to call anymore. FCC needs to do something. I am tired of the constant calls and dialing tone recorded on the answering machine.
Directions and Research is the company name. I usually ignore calls from telemarketers, but I have answered the phone four times for these jerks. In each case, I asked them to remove me from their mailing list. They always hang up on me without acknowledging the request and therefore continue to call. I have found that reporting telemarketers to the FCC does no good, as they will simply send you a form letter indicating that you "have not provided enough information." Funny thing is last time I reported anything to the FCC it included the full name, home address, business address, all phone numbers, and various links to public's disgust with the perpetrator. But I still got the same form letter. The government seriously needs to look at these organizations that fail to do their job and cut them before even thinking about raising taxes
This number has been repeatedly calling my elderly mother's home phone several times a day and hanging up when her machine answered. The last time they called yesterday she fell and injured herself trying to get to the telephone. It was their third time calling that day. I called the number and cannot get a person. Someone needs to stop these people.
They've started calling several times a day in the past three days. It's 5 pm here now, and they've already called 4 times today. They hang up as soon as the answering machine picks up. This is nothing but harassment.
They said Hello and I screamed into the phone as loud as I could. So far no call back. Love it.
Next time I will grab a horn or whistle.
Hello again. I wanted to add to my previous post that, in the nearly two weeks since I yelled at them to leave me alone and not call again, I have not received a call. You might try doing what I did. I was reluctant to answer any of their calls, but what I did seems to have worked, at least for now.
Nearly every evening around 8 pm for about a week and half now, this number calls my home, rings three times and hangs up. My number is a non-published number that I've had for over 7 years now. I rarely give it out. I am also on the do not call list.
Number continues to call my Colorado business number and never leaves a message. Calls 5-9 times each day.
i get a call from this number a couple times a day, and i let answering machine pick up but no message. i refuse to answer this number. nor call it back.
I am getting 2 to 3 calls per day for several weeks...no one is there if I answer to request them to stop
Me again. The calls from 712-941-2323, Research quickly went from one every few days to several each day. The latest one came in at 5:15 p.m. two days ago. I thought my wife was calling me from the store, so I went to answer it and saw it was Research. I'd had enough, and I picked up. After a second or two a woman came on, gave her name and where she was calling from, and that's as far as I let her get. "No!" I shouted into the phone. "I don't want to do this! Don't call this number again!" I hung up. I'll do the same thing if they call again. BTW, the Do Not Call list doesn't apply to these people because they say they're a research company, and therefore exempt. Whether they're actually doing research, or disguising a sales call as research, I don't know. Meanwhile, if people really want to hear from these kind of people less, then make robo-calling illegal all across the U.S. Make them dial. That'll cut down on the garbage.
They've been calling several times a day for at least a month. I don't bother picking up, but boy do I hate running for the phone just to see their number!!!!
I've been getting many hang up calls recorded as a dial tone on my answering machine. Even when I do answer the call, they hang up. The calls come about 1-1/2 hours apart. I don't have caller I.D. so finally today I *69'd and it gave this number. If they are the same people who called me a month or so ago, I told them not to call me again because I'm on the do not call list.
As I was typing this, they called again so I answered. They stayed on the line and identified themselves as Universal Call Research Center and wanted to do a survey. I asked to be taken off their list and that I'm on the do not call list. The guy was nice but said that since they aren't selling anything the do not call list doesn't apply, but they will remove me from their call list. ... they'd better!
They have called 7-8 times in the last 3 days. I am adding them to my blocked number list.
Started calling yesterday and called again today. I did not answer. Just says research. I am also on do not call list.
Got called this evening from 712-941-2323, Research. They got my machine and didn't leave a message. This was on an unpublished line, and I never give out that number to anyone except friends. However, the local cops -- who have access to unpublished numbers -- have been known to use it during charity fundraisers, and the local newspaper has used it to try to sell me a subscription. (I presume the paper got the number from the cops. They're very tight around here.) BTW, an unwelcome caller always claims "random dialing." It's a lie. Anyway, I will post again with more info, if any.
They've been calling several times a day for weeks now even tho we're on DNC list. Very annoying.
They call daily to my office number, very disruptive.
I called their number 4 times and requested to be removed. When they continued to call, I answered. Before I could finish the statement asking to removed, they hung up on me. I have filed a formal complaint.
This call first came in on Thursday, May 14 on my secondary phone (with no services like caller ID). This morning (Friday, May 15) I was called again. It was a perfectly pleasant young woman doing a survey on the subject of child vaccinations. Entirely outside my demographic, so it was a random call.
Lesson here is that, while there are scams a plenty out "there," there are also many legitimate calls and inquiries, whether or not one wishes to participate. This seems to be one of those, though I'm not qualified, i.e., who they're looking for. Don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water...
caller ID says "research". have called almost daily, mostly between 5-6 PM. yesterday it was at noon. I don't bother to answer any "research" call...
Called twice on my business line and hung up before I could answer. Any way to make them stop?
Called my work number Friday and Monday, did not leave a message.
You know,,,,ever since I upgraded my cellphone and service with T-Mobile I've been receiving all sorts of calls from survey companies or telemarketers. Coincidence? I think not. I suspect that T-Mobile has been selling out their customer list to telemarketers. Has anyone on this forum noted if these calls started to come in about the same time you had some sort of transaction with their cellphone provider?
I'm po'd now thinking they stopped using Sergeant, Blue IA and switched to Research. I'm on the DNC list and the next time this rings the person on the other end better have cotton in their ears. Police whistle. Works great.
I know you slime balls look at this site.
get a real job.
You make more screwing cows in the corn field.
oh did that already?
Ask your mother how she likes you now.
called on behalf of Zurich - wanted to take a survey
Phone rang four times. No message, no one spoke. No idea who is calling. Anyone know? 712-941-2323.
Sergeant Blu IA, they started calling this week, they call 3x's a day. It started at the end of April. I have been avoiding answering since I am on the DND list (little that does!) & it annoys me how many MORE calls I get since getting on it! I called the number, blocking mine but I doubt that works given FedEx always knows where I live I call them. So, why wouldn't these people? Anyway. I noticed they always calls 3 times a day. So after the phone rang today I called back, it is busy and not connecting. So, then he just called again, Mark he says with some kind of long named research none marketing non selling supposedly company who claims to just want to know what people are doing to prepare for the future. Once he stopped I asked how he got the number he said random dialing. I said, well, we are on the DND list for a reason. Please do not call this number again, we do not want to be bothered by anyone, thank you, have a nice day and I hung up. He did not say anything during that time. See, I have a neighbor who answered "questions" for something and they asked too much about her "plans" for her future. She talked too much and then her banked called, someone stole her ID. I don't care to trust that won't happen. If I want to plan my future and such with a stranger, that would be someone I hire not a cold call I answer from someone I never heard of from a number I cannot trace much less get answered.
I only answered since I could not find online where anyone had. I was trying to make sure it wasn't someone I did need to talk to and I want the calls to stop. If they call back I will note that here. We all know people can block and or foil their Caller ID so I never trust it anymore. I just wish I could block everyone I needed to with Comcastic!
I'm programming my handsets with this number and setting the ringer selection to 'Ringer Off' for this number. At least I don't have to listen to the phone ringing when they call again -- I didn't say IF they call again -- it's WHEN they call again. It's just a matter of time.
I asked not to be called again and the female on the other end said "I'm not selling anything, so I'll just call later and I hope you'll be in a better mood." and then hung up.
Same old crap as with the others that call all of the time. I would like to put the SOB'S behind bars and make the listen to phone rings all night and day.
These people called me at nine at night. I am trying to put my daughter to bed, I say "who is this?".. they hang up. I try to call them back on caller ID# to tell them this is an unacceptable time to call and I get a busy signal and on the next time I tried I also got a ring followed by a standard try your call again, you may have made a dialing error message...tried again get a busy signal so they can bother my family at nine on a school night, but I cannot return their call to tell them not to call me. BAD BUSINESS... WHATEVER THEY ARE SELLING, I don't want it! THEY SHOULD CALL PEOPLE AT NORMAL BUSINESS TIMES. MAINSTREAM MARKETING PRACTICES BAD BUSINESS. I'm sure the pres. of this co. is not being bothered by this kind of bad telemarketing, and instruct his or her telemarketing employees to leave people alone in the night...or at least have the courage to speak to the people they have just interrupted. How rude.
I pressed "1" to talk to a rep and was immediately disconnected. I won't answer again.
We do not own any vehicles that would even be new enough to qualify in any such warranty offers
How do I stop the repeated calls from this number, 214-416-2888
According to caller id they've been calling everyday for weeks. Finally spoke to someone today and they asked for a 'mister' and there is none, then a 'mrs'--i'm not that either. I had to demand three times before he would say he was calling from Countrywide Insurance. When I told him he obviously didn't know who he was talking to he hung up on me. I own my car outright and have no outstanding debts, so it can't see it being a collection agency. Have no idea who or what they want but it's getting annoying.
This company called and identified themselves as being a local Allstate company. After he confirmed all of my personal information to provide me with a free insurance quote, he stated, "someone will call you back in a few days with that information". I knew I was in trouble then, but am not sure what they can do? Or more importantly, WHAT I CAN DO?
They call every day and play this automated message. I tried getting through to a rep (it says press 1) so I could tell them to remove my name but no one answers.
I got a call from this number once a day for the last 4 days. I don't answer it, and the caller leaves no message. When I called the number, there was a pre-recorded message that says, "Thank you for calling us back. In a moment, we will make this the most exciting..." at that point I hung up. I called annonymously, but they still thanked me for calling them "back."
Anyway, sounds like phone solicitation which is in violation of the Do Not Call list. I know it's futile to report them, but I will do it anyway... so here we go again. I wonder who actually takes these kinds of calls and makes it profitable for telemarketers continue.
Getting the expired car warranty scam phone call on my cell phone
This could a investigator gathering info maybe for a car repo
I wasn't here when they called and they did not leave a message. I would have answered to get some information as to why they were calling. My number is on the do-not-call list so I'm sure they wouldn't be calling to sell me vehicle warranty insurance - would they? Guess I will have to wait until they call again to see what they wanted. I have to admit that I'm surprised that they are actually sending the Auto Warranty identification for the caller id display. Probably trying to change their image.
calling cell phones. On do not call list. My phone registered to a hospital Frequent calls. Large internet archive of this callers abuse. Will report this issue my very very powerful hospital resources to address the problem.
Autodailer call about extending auto warranty (bogus, because I haven't had a warranty for years). Filed complaint at esupport.fcc.gov
OK... I called the number back.. thats how they get around it.. You called them
back and the recording gives you the schpeal... listen to it for a minute, she will ask you to "press one" if you want to be removed from the list.. also that you had to have approved for them to call in the first place by taking an online survey or something to that effect.. press one folks and you'll be removed from their list within 10 days.. it's that simple.. and quit participating in online crap that ask for you phone numbers !! :) Have a great new years.. Regards, Smitty
They called at 9:00 in the morning and someone was coughing in the background, then they hung up - I'm going to call them back on my friends cell phone at midnight this weekend................
This automated bot dialer just called a 1-888 business number. I chose option 1 to talk to a live rep & before I could finish a sentence to let them know their bot is calling a toll free business numbers he hung up on me.
your car warranty is about to expire. we don't have a car warranty
called and said it was the local Country Wide Insurance company. Tried to get me to switch insurance. I don't live in Denver (or Colorado).
Got a call from 213-416-2888 and they said nothing but could hear a guy coughing in the background. When I called back got a recorded message if I want to make money etc. Sounds like a scam.
These bottom feeders need to get a life! Probably a scam of some sort Reported the call to the Do Not Call List.
i did not answer but the caller id said auto warranty i'm glad i did not answer because stupid me i year ago i accepted the auto warranty i was told it be 430.00 and i thought what a great deal yeah right well i got some paper work in a week but and in the the paper work it said the auto warranty was 1800.00 and the 430.00 was a down payment in the mean time i cancelled ,well i never was refunded the 430.00 . the people i talked to were rude and i told them they were liars.so don't get scam by this number.
I signed up for "do not call" with gov't.
These people have been harassing us for 3 to 3 weeks re: Auto warranty .
We don't even own a newer car.
Can't believe that this call came through showing Auto Warranty on the caller ID. Is this a new twist to trying to sell unwanted or unneeded vehicle warranties? Anyway I wasn't here to answer the phone and they didn't leave a message. Better luck next time.
Automated female voice, to extend auto warranty
call to cell phone - did not answer
Received several "unknown" phones this past week. I do NOT answer.
Internet look-up said Paetec Communications- Los Angeles I'll not answer next time!
I have no idea why we were called. We have not applied for any loans. Sounds like a scam to me, possibly a "phishing" operation.
