I think this is a legitimate call from my HSBC credit account. I almost didn't answer. The person told me that they suspected a fraudulent transaction and the account number would be frozen until my husband (who uses the card) can verify some transactions. I was not asked to give the number of the account, but was able to recognize some recent transactions to the account. My husband was in town at that time and was to be using that card today. The person was going to unfreeze the account so that he would be able to continue with it today, but he is to call them back.

Called and left a garbled message on voice mail that said something about my mastercard being locked for security purposes and to press "1" to unlock it and hung up. I couldn't understand that name of the bank that they said they were calling from as the beginning of message was all screwed up. I have a debit MC from my bank but it is fine and secure. This is a total scam. Wonder what they would've said if I had answered the call. I'm tempted to if they call back.

Company calls in the middle of the night with the message "Hello, This is an alert informing you that your control Prepaid MasterCard is locked for security reasons; to unlock it, please press 1 now." I immediately hang up and go back to sleep. I read what Mark posted and I have no card from Sam's club and am not behind on any MC payments. Not sure why they call in the middle of the night but likely to try to put you on alert, throw you off guard or something. I know that any legit bank does not do this and if any fraud is happening I will deal with it in the morning and am glad that my "account is locked" so that no further transactions are processed if someone has my card. So sick of people trying to get over on people that are running scams. Go get a job!!!

This is legitimate. I do bank with HSBC and did recently make a $700 purchase overseas.

They called my cell and my work number and also sent an email, which only they would know.

I believe HSBC has outsourced to another company to handle the call center stuff, which perhaps may not be that well organized. Still, it's legit. I've verified with my account manager at HSBC that they're going through some "changes" with regard to how they handle all their call center stuff.

When they called my company, they identified themselves as "Jerico" or something like that. Perhaps something got messed up on their screen, showing the wrong name.

Todays date: May 23, 2013 I made 2 small $ purchases from Amazon and 2 small $ purchases from Fiverr.com. Orchard Fraud Dept (1-800-419-9782) called to confirm that I made these purchases and a couple more large $ purchases I made last week. They just wanted to make sure no one was using my card. Representative was very nice. I'm glad they called. I now have this phone number in my cell phone just in case I am on the road and they try to call me. I have actually had another credit card fraud representative call while I was sitting at a gas station, after I filled up my car, to make sure my card was not being used by someone else. I think it is a good thing.

December 25th, 2012 A. P. Calderon IL

My phone caller-id display showed 800-419-9782, name "not available". Fraud seems to me as the most likely motive for this call, since I do not have a HSBC account. Moreover I doubt HSBC or their agents or any other legitimate party would be making calls using a line half-anonymous line, (i.e. not displaying their their company name).

I'm pretty sure this is a legitimate phone number for the security/fraud department at Orchard Bank/Capital One (formerly HSBC but Capital One acquired the HSBC credit card business in 5/2012). Although like dr I sometimes am suspicious if I don't recognize the number, they were calling immediately after I had an Orchard Bank charge declined--and they called all three of the numbers they have on file (home/work/cell). Unlikely that an illegitimate caller would have access to all of my numbers. Plus I looked up my past emails, and in the past dating back at least two years, Orchard Bank has emailed me directing me to call this number. I spoke to them and just needed to verify my recent charges. Additionally my online access was 'on hold' but was restored immediately after the call, further showing that this is a legitimate Orchard Bank #. A bit annoying since they seem to need to feel the need to have me verify my charges much more than my other cards--but it is perfectly legit.

September 21st, 2012 dr MO

I got a call from this number on the evening I made some purchases with my HSBC card. Reluctant to give information on a # that I do not know, I hung up and called my customer service # on the back of my card and asked them if it was a legitimate # as it was different than the customer # on back of card. The representative said that she could not find any association with this #. It sounded very profession when I called this number back but I would not give any information since the rep could not verify association w the company. I would proceed with caution.

Richard, your poison pen is better pointed at the FTC and attorneys general. The FCC has very little to say about collectors, whereas the FTC sets the federal industry rules. Better still, confront the offending collector yourself as those rules permit.

All: If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior and provides you simple tools for your own defense. It grants you control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue at low cost. Learn your rights and first response tactics at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

Got a call today, caller ID said MICROSTAR SOFTW. Just clicked to "answer" the call and immediately hung up. Later called the number back. They identified themselves as Crystal _____ (forget what they said), and said to press a number to hear about their current offer. Did that, and they said to leave my name and phone number and they would call me back (yeah right, I was going to do that). So I called back and hit the number choice to be removed from their Do not call list. Well, I'm already on THE Do not call list, but I pressed the number anyway. Again, I had to leave a message with my phone number for them to "honor" my request. Left them a message that I had just read something on the internet about their scam (was on the Facebook page for AVG Anti-Virus), and they should be ashamed of themselves, and they weren't getting my phone number. BTW, AVG says they are calling victims and getting them to install malware that compromises their machines, by convincing them they have a virus or malware. Grrrrrrrrrrr, hate these jerks.

ABTM WROTE, "This is absolutely legit. Paypal and Ebay both use a service from a company called Authentify (go look at their website). When you have a valuable transaction with one of them, or if you try to change your account information, they have Authentify call your registered phone number before they allow the transaction or account change to happen just to make sure it was really you making the change or doing the deal. Notice the wierd times you got calls? Most of the time when online fraud takes place, it comes through non business hours, and many times from other countries (different time zones). When you get the call, if you didn't do anything on your paypal or ebay account, you can hang up and contact paypal/ebay directly. Chances are, someone was trying to pull a fast one with your account!! Authentify is a completely legitimate security company. If they call you and you're not expecting it, you should be concerned!"

eBay contracts with this "THIRD PARTY" to SNOOP DEEPER INTO YOUR AFFAIRS & DATABASE AND SELL YOUR INFO. Further, they cannot and will not be held responsible for what that THIRD PARTY does with your info. People should REFUSE to provide all their private info to companies like eBay, PayPal and Google. It is totally UNNECESSARY to keep providing more & more info, every time you log in to eBay or PP and want to do something on your account. THIS IS JUST EBAY & PP DOING "PHISHING."

PAYPAL is even more obnoxious, because they will FREEZE your account and LOCK UP your funds if you don't provide them the info they demand. (HOW/WHY is this even legal?)

My solution for companies like this is I keep a safety whistle beside the receiver & use it (full breath, LOL) to 'make them UNDERSTAND!' I am NOT the person they are looking for. Once I blow out their eardrum with it they get the message to NOT call my number again! Can't get much clearer than that? CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW, I am NOT the man you are looking for!

You wonder why people get so angry with these calls. I checked my caller ID and the last 10 calls were from either someone selling me something, taking a survey, or a charity. I really wish that they would pass a law that surveys or charities cannot cold call you. Also, that businesses that you have used in the past cannot call you to offer products unless you put in in writing that you wish these calls. I know that people have to make a living, but really 10 calls in a row!

This is a scam. I called the number, and the person was asking for information. I didn't give anything. He even ask for my phone number. I told him, don't you suppose to have that on your screen? It was weird because he was saying, well you could have a card with a store serviced by Citibank. I said, no! I don't have any cards with Citibank and then hung up! - Guys, this is a phising call for information. Don't give your name at all.

I then called Citibank's fraud department and they verified that this number does not belong to them.

We have an Orchard Bank credit card, a branch of HSBC. At this time, we have nothing owing on the card but are continually harrassed by heavily accented men wanting us to take out expensive Unemployment, Death or Disability insurance on our zero balance. I began by telling them politely that we don't want any, but they are persistent! I get at least two phone calls a day. Never answer as I know their number by heart, so am hoping they get tired of calling an inactive number.

* Press 2 to have your phone # removed from the telemarketing call list

They called me asked for me by first name...I said yes then the guy continued to say this is Crystal vision software, you recently purchased print master. I told him no I haven't purchased print master or anything else like that. then he said oh no I'm not saying you purchased it, we have over hundreds of products. Then he tried to say i updated something, purchased something, and/or installed something on my computer. I told him No I have not. And then he said oh you haven't we'll let you go then and hung up. I was like what in the world.. See on caller ID it shows up microstar software and the guy on the other ends says, Hello this is Crystal Vision Software. Basically he tries to con you into buying something without you even realize it. Don't buy anything from microstar software or crystal vision, from what i've read they are scam artist. They con people into purchasing items that they can't even use on their own computers. because the item is waaay outdated.. i mean like items for window 3.2 and windows 98.. not very many people have window 3.2 or 98... plus most people now days go to walmart or another local store or to dell or some place like that to buy ink and other software products.. so people please don't fall for the stupid people from microstar software or crystal vision software.. they are just rip offs.

These are Very Low Life Scumbags who can not get a Job anywhere because nobody will hire them because they are mentally Brainless.
They are almost always scared to death to Talk (they are listening).
This is the perfect place to have a little fun and Practice Being a Stand Up Comedian. Who Knows it may turn out to be a great side-job after a little practice with these Mentally Retarded Rejects.

When you see their tel number 800-446-1022 on your caller ID make sure you ANSWER as NASTY as you possibly can with sex comments etc etc etc etc etc sex comments etc etc etc. They should answer you Real Quick (they seem to have major sex problems relating to can not climax problems), you have the choice to stop talking and listen to them beg you to talk or you can get some real good person to person comedy job practice.

They will have more outside numbers call you trying to bother you , write these numbers down and after the second call put them on your hit list, you will have good luck: BE AS NASTY AS POSSIBLE .
I will update some good ones soon without the offensive words soon. Let us know how it goes and Share your best comedy with us.

Can't ignore them. They just continually harass with their calls. Not only do they call landlines, they now have begun calling cell phones. All my numbers are on the DNC list. But it makes no difference. if ever you have had dealings with them in any sort, that gives them the right to call thus making them exempt from the law. Beware of calls from this number. It's a guy by the name of Frank Pollacco that traffics drugs and launders money through several fictitious companies. Sure he has really nice business cards for all these companies but have you ever tried calling the numbers... for such a big time businessman (as he likes to refer to himself as), none of his companies have a receptionist and even the fax numbers go to his cell phone.... need I say more.

Good tips for what to do are at 800-446-1022.com - but here's my story:
I said "No" to 7 callers. 4 more were hang-ups. I called back, chose option #2 & left my name on their "do not call" list. On call #12, I asked for a supervisor and raised holy hell by recounting these calls and telling her that these relentless calls have guaranteed that I will NEVER buy anything from them. My next steps are to report them to "Do Not Call" abuse; file a report with my state's Attorney General & Better Business Bureau & to call my credit card associated with them (Orchard Bank) and tell them that I will cancel my card because of the way HSBC (and their call toadies ICP) harrass with their calls. I've had it and now am fighting back.

I kept playing with her and told her I didn't understand and she read "her sales pitch" over and over. One thing you must be careful of is never answer any question with a "yes" or you are signed up! I think I drove this woman nuts by asking questions over and over .. she finally hung up on me! LMAO

This one called every day. Finally answered and was told they could only talk to my husband. Quickly asked which company the worked for and was Room Store. They called again and husband spoke with her. She was trying to get him to by something.

I fell for this "bottom feeder" credit collections company. I did have a charge off in the amount they specified they were collecting on. Yes,I did authorize an electronic check to pay off the debt. Afterwards, I felt something wasn't legit. I did some research to find they were a bogus collection company. I called my bank and opened an investigation and sure enough they were not a legitimate company. Luckily my bank refunded my money. Don't fall for this like I did!
