I attempted to say I don't do these things over the phone, and to send me mail, but the person just kept on talking over me. I consider that rude. And, they asked for me by name

To get them to stop - their machine is relentless - in California, you can call (951) 734-7463 and ask them to take your number off the list. I found the number at their main website: www.fop.net Go to the Contact us link, then Lodge Finder. The caller ID on my phone said it was lodge 1. All you have to do is enter the lodge number - it's a 3 digit number, so 1 = 001 - and the state and it will give you a number to call. Calling the number that called you won't work. Hope this is helpful.

Also, there’s information on www.badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by FOP Lodges that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments. But you can contact them there with any questions or requests.

BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES and the people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE GROUP ON THIS PAGE< BUT IT IS ABOUT ANOTHER POLICE GROUP>

THIS IS OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ABOUT POLICE FIRE VETERAN"S AND CHILDREN'S CHARITIES. It can happen anywhere and when it does we would love to hear from you. revjames@pfcl.org www.badgefraud.org

As for the group on this page, it would be a good idea to let your fundraiser know we are out here and now you know that we are looking at them too. I would not let them misrepresent because the first time they do and we catch them, it's all over with but the crying.

Officer Down Foundation,

This is a message from Rev. James revjames@pfcl.org of the Holy Land Spiritual Church Inc. in Maryland and its integrated auxiliary Police Fire Crimeline (The Badge Fraud Tip Reporting Hotline) www.badgefraud.org

I am only going to tell you this one time. Don't you dare come out here on to this or any other board and try to say you are trying to help fallen police officers. You are not trying to help anyone but yourselves. You think I am going to let you talk to these people who are trying to protect themselves from you in that condescending manner. Let me see if I can explain this to your two week on the job backside. Officer Down Foundation's program is to teach Crisis Chaplaincy to Chaplains, it is not to provide benefits to the families of officers killed, they only pitch that because their real program would not get them one single donation, and every time you say they are providing benefits to families of officers killed it is a lie and a misrepresentation and is potentially criminally actionable against you personally as well as your bosses David Fair, Paul Kutac, Phil Leconte and David Deriks.

I will bet you did not know that those are the same group of guys that run the Police Protective Fund and American Association of Police Officers and the Junior Police Academy. These men are so honest and hard working that even after several states sued the pants off of them they had to go out and start another identical fake charity. Remember "Operation False Charity"? Yeah, wow, they were part of it, and now look at who has come to defend them and their new carbon copy of the Multi State proven fraud the Police Protective Fund and by extension The Crisis Chaplin Project.

You, a person that I already know has maybe 2 weeks experience on the phone. I am going to offer you some sage advice from one of your elders in what is left of that industry. GET A NEW JOB! This one is about to disappear.

Now, you have called into 6 of my 50 states and misrepresented yourselves, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and North Carolina and that is a problem for your organization because that is where my organization is located and our mission is to protect charitable dollars specifically raised in the name of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty. Now let me tell you what my organization does. We search out and report fraudulent Police Fire Veteran's and Children's Charities and their professional fundraisers. We protect the money of the people who protect us.

If anyone reading this wants to help with a donation for us to keep going after these scams, feel free to email me and lets talk. revjames@pfcl.org And unlike David Fair attempting to claim 501 c3 status before it is granted, Churches, like the Holy Land Spiritual Church in the United States are granted automatic 501 c3 status so you know you can deduct your donation from your taxes when the law allows.

We also recruit former professional police fundraisers as volunteers to help us go after groups like yours and you would be welcome to join us as well. And we always want to hear any tips on fraudulent activity in public safety charities so we can report them too. The days of diverting money from non profits and charities that really give their money to the families of officers killed in the line of duty, are OVER!

What a coincidence that would be huh? A church and a Minster going after a Chaplain, I would say God called one of us and the other has a big problem not just on earth, but after life too.

Do you know how much easier our job would be if your Officer Down Foundation did not exist?

I am not the kind of minister you are probably familiar with that gets up on Sunday morning to preach about Fire and Brimstone. I am the kind of minister that BRINGS Fire and Brimstone to your doorstep.

See the problem for your organization is that because of your fraudulent activity, you are making us expend our donor’s money to investigate you because you see, that is what OUR donors (Holy Land Spiritual Church) gave their money too and they knew full well that they were giving their money for us to go after groups like yours.

That would be the exact opposite of your group where the donor’s think they are giving to the families of officers killed in the line of duty but what you dont tell them is that the money they donate is really going to David Fair's personal mission of this "Crisis Chaplain" concept.

Well if you did not know we existed before I am not surprised, they never tell you phone jockey's anything, but you are about to know we exist now.

It is our duty and responsibility to protect our donor’s money and the only way for us to do that in the case of the Officer Down Foundation is for them to shut down voluntarily or we must sue the pants off of your group until you are ended. Oh and that is not all you have to look forward too, in North Carolina where you are calling, what you are doing is considered to be a class H felony.

GET A NEW JOB! THE FREE RIDE IS OVER! WE ARE COMING TO SHUT YOU DOWN!

Sincerely,

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE GROUP ON THIS PAGE< BUT IT IS ABOUT ANOTHER POLICE GROUP>

THIS IS OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN ABOUT POLICE FIRE VETERAN"S AND CHILDREN'S CHARITIES. It can happen anywhere and when it does we would love to hear from you.

REPEATEDLY I have told them to STOP CALLING. First, I don't believe they are legit. Second, I no longer live in California! They want me to support my "local" police and fire. Yeah, sure. I do. NOT in California though.

LA FOP Lodge 1

Called them back tonight, spoke to some guy who said they are exempt because they are a "charity" (actually, from my research, a scam). Told them I was making a formal complaint immediately.

They call frequently and need to be stopped. What organization could investigate them for being a scam?

I just filed a complaint on donotcall.gov. Weeks ago I asked this FOP to STOP CALLING ME. I have moved out of state but took my 818 number with me. Told them that as well as told them to STOP IT. Yet they called me again tonight. I've never "donated" to their org as I believe it might not be a legit org. They have called me many times in the past and I've always said no.

Now that I know who has been calling, I'll continue to ignore them. The police don't come to my neighborhood's aide for hours after the calls for help are made. They've got their "marching orders" to write as many tickets and tow as many cars away as possible. The fines are huge, they make mistakes on paperwork and my family has paid the price for that. I have paid over $2,500 in fines to keep the city/county from permanantly keeping my daughter's car because of typos on reports that the police and DMV are slow to acknowledge and rectify. The city, county and state rake in billions of "free tax money" this way and they make it very difficult to recover from their so-called duty to "protect and serve". They have been reduced to being roaming "tax collectors", only thing is that we can't deduct these expenses when filing on April 16th. So, LA FOP Lodge is law enforcement asking for donations? Guess what? They've gotten their "friggin" donations already. Now I have to figure out how to pay the rest of my household bills. LA FOP Lodge 1 can kiss my A#s, early in the morning!!!

October 30th, 2009 G CA

Got the call about 6:30 PM. When I answered, they hung up. Caller ID said LA FOP FOUND. I no longer live in LA, but I have VOIP so I still have an LA area code. I hope they don't call back. Sounds like a fraud to me. Now that I have answered they will probably call again. They are likely looking for valid numbers and then call back to try to get you to give them money...just my assumption based on the other comments.

October 23rd, 2009 David

Most likely a legitimate organization. Still the Fire/Police Department are not calling but an organization that specializes in calling for donations. They will take a percentage (usually larger) and then pass on (almost always smaller) a percentage to the charity. I personally won't donate on the phone but am curious so I ask what % gets passed on to the charity. They should know but these telemarketers usually don't, make it up, or hang up, since they are likely on a base + commission.

Worthwhile to donate but do it directly to the Fire/Police yourself.

Hi. It is me again. If you do not want LA FOP FOUND calling you and If you have AT&T CALL SCREEN/ CALLER ID feature. Check my comment below for instructions. It works. They used to call me every week, now I do not see/hear them calling. Why? Because my AT&T CALL SCREEN feature blocked them.

Oh. Another method. My brother got a Panasonic Cordless Phone. It has a BLOCK unwanted telephone number feature. He just entered all the LA FOP FOUND telephone numbers and as soon as they call, they hear a busy signal at once. It works too.

September 20th, 2009 Jeff CA

I've done a little more digging. FOP is a national organization. The national's web site is at www (dot) fop (dot) net. They have a California chapter at www (dot) cafop (dot) org. Google on "fraternal order of police" to read up on them. Since they are exempt as a charitable organization from state and national Do Not Call laws, probably the best that can be done is to navigate to the "contact us" page at cafop, call or email them, and ask to be put on their private "do not call" list (they probably do maintain one, you just have to be persistent until you reach someone in charge of it). Call blocking service from the phone company is another solution, but the service is fairly limited: only a few numbers at a time can be blocked, and there are other limits. Another alternative is to get one of the various devices on the market that can be programmed, based on the incoming caller ID, to: stop the call from ringing your phone, immediately divert the call to an answering machine or other device, play SIT tones (the three ascending whistling tones you hear just before the "this number is disconnected or no longer in service" recording) so that the caller or auto-dialing equipment they use thinks your number is disconnected so that it is removed from their call list, and other fun things. Unfortunately, the best of these, the 'Intelliscreener', is out of business, but there are others. Google is your friend. :) (Try 'telephone call screen'.)

September 20th, 2009 Jeff CA

I got a call from them last night, from 323-208-3952. I am also on the Do Not Call registry; unfortunately, charitable organizations, political organizations, telephone surveyors, and other such nuisances, are exempt under the law-- because they are not telemarketers. My phone is also unlisted. Telephone canvassers do not use telephone directories, they just call every number in the area they want to cover (that's why their call centers are sometimes called "boiler rooms"). When I do not recognize the caller ID displayed, I usually answer (just in case), but am prepared to dismiss the caller. The rep from LA FOP asked for the lady of the house. When I told him I live alone, he started in with his pitch: "The police keep you safe, but you probably do not think of us." I Googled on LA FOP FOUND, found this page, and that Los Angeles and Louisiana both have a Fraternal Order of Police that go by LA FOP FOUND.

If you have a complete choice package from AT&T, your line is equipped with Call Screen/ Caller ID. As soon as you see LA FOP FOUND on your Caller ID, do not answer the phone. After it stop ringing or after they hung up, use the CALL SCREEN menu from AT&T by pressing *60 (asterisk 60) and follow instructions. To Turn On CALL SCREEN, press 3. To include the tel. number of the last caller (LA FOP FOUND), press # 01 #. AT&T says if this phone number called(LA FOP FOUND), your home phone will not ring instead LA FOP FOUND will hear a polite message that you do not want to talk to them. As User ID "C" wrote, They have another phone number (323) 208-3952 I do not know if it will work or not because I just turned ON my CALL SCREEN feature today. Hope it works.

Remember, NEVER give money to cold-calling telemarketers no matter who they say they represent. Even if they're moderately legit, the actual charity will receive only a small portion of your money. If it's a charity you care about, contact them directly or use their web site.

the number that came up on my ID was 3232083952. they hung up when i said hello

They called and asked for money but were not able to say how they got my number. When I asked for some type of business license or verification of the organization, he suddenly said "we have a bad connection" and hung up. This is not a legitimate group!

Sleazy charity telemarketer. Calls repeatedly. When I finally answered to tell them to remove me, they wouldn't let me get a word in and cheerily said they'd try again later and hung up. DO NOT give money to telemarketer charities. Very little of the money actually goes to the organization they're claiming to represent.

By the way, phone numbers on my caller ID for LA FOP FOUND are (323)208-3941 or (323)208-3944

I get the same Caller ID for LA FOP Found calling once a week. If this is the Los Angeles Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, you are right Alex, they are just asking money. They will not leave any message on my answering machine. If I do not know the person on my caller ID, I do not answer. Not only will they call, two of my friends received a letter from Police foundation if you are in LAPD territory, and Sheriff foundation if you are in Sheriff territory. They are asking donation or join a yearly membership and in return they give you a bumper sticker and ID that you are a member or have donated.
