we had been receiving this msg since we moved into our new house. i finally broke down and called the #. after waiting on hold for over 20 minutes, i finally spoke to a woman (with a thick midwest accent) who immediately asked for my ss#, which, obviously i didn't give her. i asked who they were and why they were calling me since i had no outstanding student loan debt. she asked for my phone number to search her database (took several minutes), and told me the name of the person they were trying to reach (Irena). we get calls all the time for someone named Irena, who i'm guessing, was a previous resident of my house. i told the woman that irena no longer lives here and she was happy to take our phone number off the list. Not a scam, just a wrong number (i still would not give them any personal info, if i were you).

This recording has called repeatedly even though I have told them I am STILL IN SCHOOL and do not have any loans in collections. They will not remove my # from their call list even though I am obviously not the person they're looking for. Morons. I blocked the number, but I still get voice mails from them. Thank the lord for visual voicemail. :)

This isn't legit. The US department of Education identifies who they are first and asks what you need before asking for any personal identification such as SS. This number didn't identify themselves at all and asked for SS before saying Hello.

All collection agencies working with the US department of education are legally obligated to tell you who they are, that they are trying to collect a debt and any information they acquire can be used to collect that debt before collecting any information or talking to you about your loans, again this number did not do this.

They are not real.

If you are receiving repeated, misdirected, and/or abusive calls from a third party debt collector, you may find relief in the provisions of the FDCPA, the federal law which regulates collector behavior. Learn your rights at FTC-dot-gov. See also your state laws for additional support.

Cathy: Now you know what aggressive skip tracing sounds like. Obviously (to the rep) you are hiding this relative in your attic and you can be rattled enough to produce that person. Send a cease-comm notice via USPS Certified with card. The FTC and many consumer watchdogs explain how to draft one.

Asterix: There are numerous reasons for a debt collector to call, but it's not sequential dialing. You're either thought to be a debtor or can help locate one. Their calls to mobile devices become illegal once notified, by the way.

KDB: Collectors will always start with whatever contact data is on an account, but may branch out to relatives, neighbors, workplaces, or anyone they think could help. Strictly from an efficiency and investigatory standpoint, this makes sense. The usual problem is that collection reps are trained to disbelieve anything they are told which thwarts payment. The common problem which follows is a conflict in the law. A collector must make "meaningful disclosure" of its identity yet respect the privacy of whoever is named on a debt account. Most lean toward saying as little as possible to avoid lawsuits.

Adam: The tactics reported here are not merely "strong arming", they are hostile and illegal! No one should come to a "payment arrangement" with such a scofflaw. Challenge all claims and don't tolerate bad behavior. Again, the FTC and rights advocates explain the proper stance to take.

We've been getting daily calls for a couple of weeks and decided to answer the phone. The guy asked for a family member who no longer lives with us. When I told him that, he insisted I give him their current phone number. I told him he could look it up on the internet. He insisted his call was important and that I take down his phone number. That company should not be allowed to harass family members!

Received an automated call 18 March 2011 (1PM EST). The caller claimed to be from the US Dept. of Education with "important information regarding your student records." There are multiple college-educated people living in the house who would have "student records" on file. The call did not identify (by name or anything else) who they were trying to reach. Didn't mention anything about delinquent loans (like other posters), but no one in the house has any student loans, either!

This reeks of a scam through and through.

Have been receiving many calls from this number and 636-925-3773. They call several times a day but say nothing when we answer. It's more than annoying... it's harrassment! If they have a reason for their call they should state it or stop the calling! My idea is that it is some collection agency that is attempting to collect a debt and the debtor (bless their heart) has given our number out. If they are so smart why don't they check the phone service to see what name the account is in before they continue to harrass people.? Rocket scientists...

I started receiving calls from this number a week ago. They called my work and a few family members phones to get a hold of me. I called the number yesterday and was given the run-around. I was transferred to 7 different people who had no idea who I was! They were finally able to verify me when I stupidly gave them my cell phone number. The lady said she was with the Dept of Education and that I needed to pay my loan off today. When I told her that I already made arrangements two weeks ago, she became very rude and said I needed to pay over the phone right now or I would be in default. She knew how much my loan was and other private information, so it sounded legitimate at the time. I foolishly gave her my checking account number and she wanted to know how much money I had in there. That was a major red flag. When I told her I wouldn't be able to pay until Thursday, she hung up on me. When I called back, I got transferred numerous times and was yelled at each time. They kept asking for my account number and SSN. I got hateful and hung up the phone. I came across this website yesterday and read everyones stories, so I closed my checking account before these scammers could do anything. DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE OR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!

The compliance managers name is Ben Colemand - atleast he says he is. Any collection agency that answers their phone using their initials is not one to deal with or intends to be professional. A gentleman answers the phone "FAMS"... I have received several calls and am a very understanding person as to how this happens!
The only time I get upset is when the person on the other end of the phone is not working with me to stop the calls from happening in the future. Dont bother pressing 2 because the automated dialer will just hang up on you and call again later on. You will need to dial 6396 925 5390 and ask for their Compliance Manager Ben Coleman if you wish to be treated professionally and see that your number is removed.

Allied interstate student loan collection.
Apparently these "classy" well-trained, guard dogs, will bark up the wrong tree.
My uncle has a student loan from 20 years ago. Im the lucky chap that has the same name as my dead beat uncle. So "John davis" the collector thinks i'm lieing... He thinks im just denying that Im my uncle. WE HAVE THE SAME FREAKEN NAME!!! Anyways... These guys will call and call until a person might need therapy. I CANT SLEEP WITH OUT THEM CALLING. So i decided to help my uncle take care of this matter for good. Of course my recommendation and any professional will tell you "Its always best to make payments!" but its always best to know your options before negotiating with these "Classy" Collectors. Heres a website I found that some "Student Loan collector" Made... He spills the beans....

Hes a collector so i still hate him, but personally I think this is the first time some one actually came out the laid out the rules on the table. Its a mystery as to why this type of thing isn't more accessible.

If this was a ligit operation they wouldnt just leave a message on a random phone leaving no information on who they were looking for and who should call them back. They only need to speak with the so called student not disrupt other peoples lives, and playing a recording to get random people to call them back and then have the nerve to ask them personal questions I would call that not legit!

This collection agency has been calling me AT WORK for more than a week not — despite me repeatedly telling them that I am not the person they are looking for, that they have the wrong number. I work for the direct loan origination program and that is the servicing department that calls. if you get late on a payment a autorecording calls. the servicing number is also 1-800-848-0979 and website is www.dl.ed.gov I believe they ask for the social because they have to verify who they are talking to before they can release any information on your account. That is the same reason why we ask for a social when people call here. That is the only way to look up their account. It is a requirement to provide your social in order to be eligable for any title IV student aid (grants and loans)

FAMS, they are rude and you should find out what creditor they represent then call the creditor first before giving them any information - THey told me they repped Dept of Education, which they do work with, but by called Dept of Ed first I saved myself $5K in fees I would have had to pay if I would have set up a payment arrangement with these people. I looked this number up as I was on the call with the gentleman asking me personal questions to be safe and became concerned when I saw several negative comments. So I hung up and directly called Direct Student Serving center and tried to verify the message and phone call. I explained the situation and the lady confirmed that they had indeed reached out to me regarding my delinquent loan. The first call did feel fishy but I am now confident that it was a legit call. Both DRS center number and this "mysterious" number both begin with 1-800-848-_______. This is legit.

The caller, who was extremely pleasant, informed me that someone had given my name as a reference. However, I've never even heard of the person who supposedly submitted my name. I asked what type of company she represented - and I was told 'financial services.' When I specifically asked if they handle collections, she indicated they did not. However, when I called the number back, the rep that answered told me they do, in fact, handle collections.I was transferred to a manager who assured me they would remove my name and number from their data base. When I asked how they could possibly have my name and unlisted number in the first place, she suggested that my name might have been crossed with someone elses on their list. This certainly doesn't explain how they got my name and unlisted phone number in the first place. Very strange. If they continue to call me again, I will report them to the appropriate authorities.

Yep. It's the department of education. No matter what bank originated your loan, they are in charge. Thank god it's all simple now. They do ALL the loans like it always should have been. Totally LEGIT!!! Believe it or not the U.S. Federal Government will hire someone to collect on Federal Student Loans. Listen people. Direct Loans is a legitmate company. They are the company that handles all the collection services for U.S. student FEDERAL LOANS. Any site with the ed.gov in its url is LEGIT. Actually almost any URL that ends with .gov is legit because only Governments of Nations can hand out those domains. It's a long process and a lot paperwork just to get one. I doubt a scammer will go through all that trouble just to get your SSN. there are easier ways...If they are contacting you it's because your are somehow associated with someone who has or is trying to get a Federal Loan for school in the USA. Or they made a mistake. People do make mistakes....even the FEDS**. Check the legit sites below for more info.

I used to work for this company. While it is true they do strong arm you, they are a legitimate collection agency. They collect on Sallie Mae, US department of education, Chase, Capital One, Bank of America, and AT&T. It is unfortunate to see some of you say stupid things like don't answer, they will go away. While that may be true, the debt will never go away. They will keep transferring it to different collection agencies, then finally sue you and garnish your wages. In all honesty, it is best to work out a payment arrangement now than keep waiting. To be honest, they won't turn down money. As long as you are honest with them, they do listen. Take this from someone who used to work for them.

Receiving repeated calls from 636-925-5300. Caller ID says it's from Fin Asset Mgmt. Been calling for several days now. Not answering anymore. Most of the calls to my home number is now from this number- includes calls into the evening. I don't owe any debts and when retiring years ago cancelled all my credit cards- so if this is a collection company as I've read in some of the other comments here, they are way off based. I'm considering cancelling my phone service. My phone provider says they'll block the calls- for a fee of course- no way; they'll just loose my business.

Just talked to them - it is Dept. of Ed. They were super nice and helpful, but I was unaware that I had an account with them. Apparently my original lender sold part of my loan to them and somehow that information didn't get to me. As a result, my account with them was past-due. They had left a couple of robo-messages on my voicemail not saying about a past-due account, but that they "needed to update my records..." not the kind of call I'm in a hurry to return. If I had, I could have saved some hassle. So if you get that message - return the call.

This call said a person (my son) had listed me as a reference and they needed his current address. They kept calling him by the wrong name, then would change back in the next sentence. They seemed to know that he was at a new school (named it) but yet they didn't know where he was? It was all a little suspicious, and very unprofessional sounding. And why make the number "unavailable" on caller ID? All that, plus the fact that he has gotten mail from Direct Loans at his current address make this seem like a scam. They are not getting any information from me by phone. If they are legit, they will try mail as well. As he is currently a full time student, he is not owing them $$ right now anyway.

This does not appear legitimate, despite the few comments below. I've received several of these calls, but I don't have any student loans. Further, any service that wants an SSN before even getting your name is phishing.

I called this number back. They were looking for my former roommate. The rep was very sympathetic and helpful in removing my number from their system, though she did warn me that they'd be doing a skip trace, and if it came up with my number again, it'd go back in the system. I don't believe it's phishing, especially since the number is listed on the dept of education's website here.

Normally, I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, but I was expecting a call back from someone and didn't look at the caller ID. I answer, and a man asked to speak to someone I've never heard of - John Smith, we'll say. When I told him he had the wrong number, he said "Mr. Smith, you need to stop lying and pay your bills, or things will get really bad for you!" Once more, I told him he had the wrong number and hung up. The line wasn't closed good when the phone rang again, same number. I was curious now, so I answered. There was no preamble, just a launch into a profanity-laced tirade about not hanging up on him, paying my bills on time, yada, yada, yada. I hung up. Again, the phone rings, same number. I didn't answer. Very tempted to call the AG's office in Missouri though. Even though I wasn't the person this guy was looking for, that's still no way to conduct yourself. Not sure what it is about having the protection of being on the phone that makes these guys so belligerent and rude, but I'll bet he'd be much calmer and civil if he was eye to eye with someone rather than on the phone.

Like others who have posted here, I'm getting calls from this number regarding someone who I don't know and who has never had this phone number or address (at least not in the past 15 years). If these guys are debt collectors, they're obviously not very good at it.

Several things about this call. They call regarding my "student records", yet the website they tell you to go to has to do with loans. I am not even old enough to have a student loan, my mobile phone is unregistered anyway. How did they find out who I was? they didn't. It is easily possible to spoof the outbound number so that it looks exactly like the US Department of Education. They ask you to go to dl.ed.gov normally "dl" is a subdomain for a domain (eg "ed.gov"). In this case, the actual website is www.dl.ed.gov, which is a malformed URL. I don't know how it actually pulls up a website, but the server cannot be tracked/pinged/or looked up via WhoIS. I'm not about to call that number back, I don't trust it. And if this is a scam, it is truly ingenious as far as the website goes. Its a pity some people spend their time coming up with such things

These people call repeatedly and refuse to obey the law. I have reported them to the FTC and local officials since they 1) are calling for a person who does not live here and I do not know 2)they continue to call after they have been informed of this fact and 3) they continue to call after I gave them notice verbally and in writing to stop calling my phone number. If they call you Do Not Answer and REPORT THEM! They are operating outside the law and need to be shut down! And yes, these criminals are equivalent to COCKROACHES in my personal opinion and need to be stepped on! Harassing innocent people who DO NOT OWE ANY DEBTS is not only against the law, it shows how slipshod and lazy the employees and management of this company operates.

If a debt collector does contact you after you request that he stop, you might have the right to sue and collect damages.

Quote the actual law to the caller:

"The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires that you stop phoning me at home and at work once I request that you do so. I intend to send you a certified letter tomorrow putting my no contact request in writing. If you continue to phone me, then I will file a complaint with the FTC and the attorney general."

If they don't stop after that then send them a certified letter with your request and contact your local District Attorney's office with your complaint and any other pertinent information you can provide.

If a debt collector does contact you after you request that he stop, you might have the right to sue and collect damages. I would -

This is bullshit. It's a phishing scam. Usually your account number for loans is your SSN, so they'd be able to match your name with that. Maybe the call would go farther. Don't buy it - delete this shit and let's hope somebody firebombs these fuckers.

Financial Assets Management - These guys are a strong arm collection agency and have been calling me about a Chase credit card. They repeatedly call me at work. I have told them in no uncertain terms that they must stop calling me at work and should correspond with me via U.S. mail, but they continue calling me at work. I was polite with them on the one occasion I spoke with them. Some manager who had been listening in on the phone call didn't like hearing me tell them I had no money to pay them. He jumped in and began aggressively threatening me. I repeated to him, again politely, that they must stop calling me at work and told him that was my official notice they stop. This, of course, added to his rage. Rather than waste my time listening to some imbecile go off the deep end I just hung up. They have continued calling me since then and I no longer answer the phone. I have done some research online and found numerous complaints against this company. They are clearly breaking the law and it would seem the FTC is either toothless or is OK with turning a blind eye to this type of criminal collection practice. A SUGGESTION TO ALL WHO MAY READ THIS: If you must answer their calls (which I no longer do), tell them one thing and one thing only "Stop calling me! This is your official notice. If you call again I will file a complaint." THEN, file a complaint with the FTC and pray that some day the FTC will start taking these things seriously. Best of luck to you my fellow consumer victims.

Just got a call from this number, Financial Assest Management has contacted me before and I do owe AT&T money so yea.....it's a collection agency! Don't pick up!!!!!

February 27th, 2009 J N C

They seem to be FINANCIAL ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, INC. Missouri Operations Center 70 Corporate Hills Drive, Suite 103, St. Charles, MO  63301. I got this information from my caller ID and the internet. They are a collection agency known for illegal practices and rude behavior. They have never sent me the required notice in the mail before they began harassing me by phone. I do not owe any debts but they call every couple of minutes and let the phone ring 2 times. This goes on for a while then they let the phone ring for about 40 times. This has been going on now for 2 months or more. I have sent all this information to the FTC. I suggest you do the same if you are also being harassed by this company presumably for debts you do not owe.

February 27th, 2009 Duh

I don't answer calls from anyone I do not know. They began calling my phone number in January and they are still calling today. They call every few minutes for about an hour and they only let the phone ring about 2-3 times. Then a few more times during the day and let it ring for 30 times or more. This has happened day and night everyday since they began calling. I don't know what they want nor do I care.

I've been receiving these calls constently. I finally called back 1-800-848-0981 and the first thing the lady asked for was my SSN. I asked why and she said "It's required as part of the process". the 1800-848-0981 is a legit number for direct loans. I received a call from that number today asking to call them back and I did give out my information to them and they told me to disregard the call. I was really worried that it was a scam and I gave out everything so I decided to look off my monthy bill and I called the number on it and they said that the number that called me was legit and it was a 24 hour direct loans number. They said that if you are under someones contact information that does have loan through them, that they might call you to reach them.

Called asking for someone who's name is similar to mine (must be guessing from my first initial). Said that I was listed as a reference on someone's college application. I have never heard of the person they mentioned (something, Cunningham). They also said that they didn't have this person's phone number on file and that is why they were calling me. They asked me to please call them back EVEN if I did not know the person referenced in the call, so they could "correct our records". The person calling did not sound professional in the least. Funny, I recieved a similar call a few months ago saying I was a reference for a completely different person (never heard of them either). Sounds like a scam.....

If you are behind on your credit cards and they have turned it over to one of these collection companies...this is what you do...NOTHING!!! Do not answer your phone. Do Not give them ANY information. Do not confirm your name, address, city, state, bank account, credit card number, social security number. NOTHING. Eventually they will go away. If you open a dialog with them then they will hammer you into an agreement to pay, you will give them an account number (bank or cc) and watch ALL of your money disappear!

Who are these people??????

October 4th, 2008 Debbie TX

Someone from this company called me asking if I'd seen my neighbors today (9:30 a.m.) He had the names correct but I don't know how they got MY phone number in order to contact them. I told him if it was an emergency, he should hang up and call 911. He said he had some personal information they needed, so I told him to call THEM and leave a voicemail. It just surprised me as contacting me seems to be a new low in the fine art of debt-collection (or personal information management.?..)

October 3rd, 2008 E H MS

I do not know what these people are about but they have called twice so far asking for people I have never heard of, both times different names. My credit score is over 750 and I have no debts what so ever except for my mortgage which has never been late, I have never been with Cingular either. So far they haven't really tried getting any information from me, which I would not give them if they did because you have to be an idiot to just give out information to anyone that called. But I would like to know why they keep calling asking if I know random people... The first time the person just asked for me by name then asked if I knew so and so then when I said nope they said ok and hung up. The calls are wierd and I think if they have no other purpose I consider them scammers.

OK, getting these calls on my cel, never answered. Got some info from this company. I Pretended to be a new client looking to sell some of my over due accounts. Supposedly V.P. of sales (i.e. collection account purchasing) is Gary Turner, his direct number is 770-888-3626. I ran this number and it seems to be a residential # and address. So, not sure if it's real. Maybe he works from his home. If it's a real V.P. feel free to harass someone back.

Just wanted to add a note on here. Recieved a call from 636-925-5300 a couple times this week, finally today a message was left for me. The company is Financial Assests Management (FAM). Found out the company name with a google search and found this website here. Glad I looked it up because I wouldn't have returned the call otherwise. Just wanted to say sometimes calls from companies like FAM are totally legit. FAM is the holder of my US Dept of Education student loans. Everyone I have dealt with at the company have been polite and helpful. I work in a call center doing customer service myself and know that sometimes the attitude that a caller gets from a rep is just mirroring the tone of the customer. In my opinion if they are calling you, you should at least call back and verify it is a legit call to collect a legit debt.
Today I spoke with a James in regards to the message I got and he was helpful and polite.... but then again I was nice and polite also.

Auto calling people many times a day for weeks and months is harassment (with stress on the second syllable). Business practices like this would be outlawed if congress wasn't bought and paid for by greedy, amoral, corrupt, lobbyists; but I digress. This Financial Asset Management company occupies the same economic strata that money changers did in the temple 2000 years ago, or divorce lawyers or ex-Enron CEOs fill today. In an ecological niche, they would be leaches or tapeworms, parasites hungry for an unwary host. No, I take that back, more like wolves that pretend to be sheep. Yes, desperate and depraved, mangy, red-eyed wolves, peering at your house from the dark corners of your lawn. Looking for an unlocked door or window and rummaging through your garbage when no ones looking. Whoops, there I go again- digressing. Beware these people and tell them nothing. Spoke to Kim Moses, then to Victor Webb, then to Jay (J.?) Bateman, who identified himself as the manager. Mr. Bateman said that his office is at 1967 Lakeside Parkway, #402, Tucker, Georgia 30084. He explained that the company is a bill collection agency, and that they obviously "called the wrong number." But my number is unlisted, and they left a message for me by name. I have a perfect credit rating and don't owe anybody any money, so I'm still curious how they got my unlisted number. They would only say that "we have ways of getting unlisted numbers." They also refused to give me the name of their attorney of record.

To Pan~
I think you need to educate YOURself. If the Department of Education hires an outside source to collect a debt, it IS misrepresentation for the caller from the hired company to claim to be calling from the Department of Education. The caller should introduce him/herself by name and state the company's name which they are calling from at the very beginning of the call. The rep should only refer to the Dept. of Education as the client for whom he or she is collecting the debt.

Just now the man with an indian accent called and said he's with "satellite services". I just hang up on him. It's to the point that my children know not to answer the phone because they record you saying YES and you wind up being charged for things. Be very careful not to say anything to these people, just hang up. I get calls in the middle of the night all during the day, they are relentless. I have filed complaints w/ the do not call registry, but nothing helps. completely frustrating. Be careful not to speak to these people.

The Do Not Call Registry does not apply to the collection of debts. Educate yourselves. Financial Asset Management Systems does not buy accounts either, they are hired by the companies to talk to people because you won't voluntarily respond, and you're already extremely delinquent. By being belligerent and evasive yourselves all you're doing is continuing to not pay your bills. If it is fraud, or a disputed account, hiding doesn't fix it. Resolve the problem, which doesn't always mean paying on it. Reporting a collection agency calling you when you aren't being cooperative or verifying your identity doesn't hurt them. However, offensive messages and phone calls are not called for, and no one can defend that. In lieu of the department of education, FAMS is hired to represent them, so they're not misrepresenting a single thing. Good day.

Caller ID read Financial Asset Management (phone number was 636-925-5390). Called for my son. Would not give me any information. Were rude. Called my son & asked him if he had any outstanding business dealing with Cingular, student loans, Chase Bank. THIS LOOKS LIKE A SCAM ... BEWARE!

I keep getting calls from this number as well. The number traces back to Financial Assets Mgmt at the following website: www.fams.net These guys keep calling asking for a person we've never heard of. We're on the DNC registry. I'm going to report these guys to our local DA.

Received the call about noon, was an indian woman, said I won a $1000 shopping spree and a free vacation. Said it would be free hotel and airfare. all I had to do was send in $1.95. told her not interested, man took call, indian also, asked why not take advantage, said does not accept debit or credit, but checks, promised it was secured, told him hold on then i hung up. immediately he called again, asked why i hung up, told him i don't believe him at all, he asked me how can i go through life without trust, call lasted 8 min. finally he told me some sad story about his kids then said bye. but he tried repeatedly to get that bank account number. then he said get a check, write date on it, then write freegifts america on it, then i stopped him and said no plain and simple. he went on about the free gifts. i asked if i could shop anywhere for free he said yes, he said but i have to pay the buck 95 for the codes that would arrive in the mail

A so-called "Mrs. Andrews" with the fakest southern accent I've ever heard has called no less than 4 times a day for nearly 2 weeks now, excluding weekends. I've answered once or twice and have had the same recorded message each time.

July 31st, 2007 Diane

These people have been calling several times just about every day. I don't answer the phone when I see this number on caller ID. They say that our Chase account has been sold to them. I talked with them the first time they called and I told them not to call back but, they did anyway. I ended up losing my temper and told them to go to hell and hung up. I was so mad and upset that I was shaking. I have not answered the phone since then when I see this number. They don't usually leave a message but, when they do, it is usually some guy that doesn't identify his company or why he is calling. Our son told us about your website.
Thanks!

They claim to be the U.S. Department of Education, but this seems like an identity theft ring to me -- they ask for a Social Security number before they even know your name. I've never had a student loan either, there's no reason to be on their list, but they call every day and refuse to take me off.

June 13th, 2007 Hit them hard CA

First of all, to the person who gave this company his ex-wife's credit card #, Good Job! I am still laughing over that slick move ... Very clever.

Now, for the rest of us, it is not likely any "law enforecement" agency is going to help us out. They are too busy being busy to deal with little stuff like this. So, I propose we hit the bastards where it hurts them most. Every time they get an incoming call on their toll free number they are charged a fee by their telephone company. So, if we all just call their 866-904-7796 number time after time, hang up after 10 seconds or so to make certain they get hit for the connect fee, after a while their incoming toll call costs will start going up. They have to pay the fee or lose their telephone line, their life blood.

Now, I do not know if this is a problem from a legal perspective. So, I am going to take the position that I am trying to reach someone, and keep getting a recorded message. Folks with computer modems, just set up an auto-dial, and hang up after 10 seconds, then redial again, and again, and again. Oooops, programmed the wrong #, sorry ...

Even if we can't stop them we can become a financial pain in the ass to these idiots. Serves them right.

Oh, uh, the disclaimer. Do not do anything mentioned in this note without checking with legal counsel first, to make certain you are not breaking any laws ...

Ciao!

I got a call from this number. A man who sounded Indian (dots - not feathers) was telling me that he wanted to send me a supplemental insurance card and wanted to verify my name and address. I told him this sounded like some sort of scam, and I also told him that I was having a hard time understanding him because of his accent and the fact that he was talking so fast. I asked if there was anyone else there who could speak better english and he said that he was speaking better english than me. HA! whatever! He then proceeded to tell me that he grew up in the hip hop age and that was why he was speaking so fast then he hung up. Somebody needs to track these people down and put them out of business.

I got a call from an Indian (from India) gentleman twice, telling me I purchased a vacation package in 2001 (six years ago) and they want to reactivate the package. As soon as I told them to reactivate it, but I will not provide any billing information and if I am billed i will report him, he hung up. If you call the number back and chose option 2 (for English), it asks you to input your card number! SCAMMMM!!!!
