March 29th, 2013 GOTCHA MA

They called for the SIXTH time in FIVE DAYS today; THIS time on GOOD FRIDAY. I was home, getting ready for out of town guests. I finally decided to ANSWER this call, even though I usually IGNORE them, to CONFRONT these SELFISH GREEDY SOBs.

The girl who answered my "WHAT do you want?" tried to so quickly give her name and the NAME OF THE TELEMARKETER SHE WORKS FOR, that i couldn't catch it. She IMMEDIATELY went into her SCRIPTED SPIEL "on BEHALF OF 'The American Lung Association'." I STOPPED her and INSISTED on her Name/COMPANY before she went any further. She AGAIN talked TOO SOFTLY for me to hear when revealing this and started once more on her script.

I stopped her once more and VERY FIRMLY INSISTED on her SLOWLY, LOUDLY and CLEARLY telling me her name. She stated she was "CARLA PELLAGRINA (or PELLAGRINI) and the name of her TELEMARKETING COMPANY IS "INFOCISION".

I informed her that I am on the DNC List and DID NOT WISH TO BE TELEMARKETED, to which she replied they were 'exempt.' HOWEVER, when I FIRMLY INSISTED that I had THE RIGHT To DEMAND that even a 'non-profit' NOT TELEMARKET ME, especially if I so INDICATED TO HER, she HAD to take me off the list.
She 'agreed' to do so, but I'm not sure how honest or compliant they will be. HOWEVER, I NOW have a TELEMARKETING COMPANY NAME to go along with these numbers and I have already put in ANOTHER complaint against this company.

I HAVE donated to ALA in the past - BUT NEVER AGAIN. I'm pretty sure I INDICATED TO THEM - ON MY CHECK, in fact - THAT THEY WERE **NEVER** TO TELEMARKET ME, EVER, despite that donation. SO, they have VIOLATED those terms from the beginning and I intend to pursue this further with letters to ALA with a cc to the FTC/FCC.

TELEMARKETING COMPANY:: >> "INFOCISION"

Caller ID shows ALA. At first I thought this call was from Alabama. However, I received another call from 202-370-7283 with the same caller ID of ALA. After checking that number, it appears to be the American Lung Association. I've had numerous calls from them in the past, all from different numbers. They never give up!

Called the number back. It's the American Lund Association and during the call you can press the buttons to be taken off the call list. Said it might take 30 days.

August 20th, 2011 Muffy MD

This is the American Lung Association. They're looking for a person to handout envelopes in the neighborhood which asks for donations. No one has money these days!

(917) 210-0241

May 7th, 2011 Dennis FL

Found this page by googling 800-370-1890. Had been supposed to collect money for American Lung but now think it is a scam. They said that I send donation requests to neighbors and didn't need to identify myself. Now found that I have to identify myself because I collect the money and send it back. One good way to get money is to have someone people know ask. They feel safer giving and feel pressured to give. I Googled American Lung and sent them an e-mail asking if they were doing such a campaign and got no reply. I decided it was a scam so didn't collect money. Got a call thanking me for helping and saying if I had questions to call the 800 number above. Your experience here continue to make me think it is a scam.

Terminator, both the TCPA and FDCPA allow a daily 13 hour call window beginning at 08:00 in your time zone. This makes 08:00 a de facto acceptable start time for cold calls in general. The only "ruling" which might impede calls before 09:00 would be in your state law.

Called 8:28AM CST. Did not leave a message. I do not think that the "Charity" status exempts them from the no calling before 9:00AM ruling.

February 7th, 2011 J Yang TX

I received this call more than 5 times. It was either 8:20am in the morning or 5:30pm in the evening.

January 30th, 2011 Resident47 RI

Early intel suggests these are charity calls for American Lung Assn. For years until last Spring Am-Lung had hired Akron call center InfoCision. Now they have appeared to switch to rival MDS Communications. Not sure if the deal is exclusive. The current crop of calls is about as bad as InfoCision's, with a similar style of calling repeatedly from a rotating set of numbers and often lacking any useful CID.

We've had calls for the past ten days from the following numbers which are likely on behalf of this charity: 202-367-9124, 202-367-9133, 877-288-3089, 877-815-4868, 877-815-4876

The calls from commercial fundraisers are exempt from Federal DNC under the charity status, even though such call centers are very much for-profit and pocket far too much of what these periodic campaigns collect. At times the "charity" group is itself a profit enterprise, compounding the deception. However, as a commercial entity, each commercial fundraiser is expected to honor its own no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and "the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."

(877) 619-1828

December 30th, 2010 Resident47 RI

Please know that the calls AHA authorizes commercial fundraiser InfoCision to drill us with are often not properly announced via Caller ID. There is only so much "caring people" can stand of daily mystery calls which border on harassment, placed by a million-dollar business which keeps half or more of what it collects for its charity clients. Please don't try to claim that coaxing people to propagate your junk mail is not somehow soliciting funds.

A commercial fundraiser is expected to honor its own no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and "the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."

December 29th, 2010 American Heart OH

Please know that the calls you are receiving are part of the American Heart Association’s Dear Neighbor campaign. Infocision is a telemarketer based in Akron, Ohio and routinely runs aggressive campaigns for charity and political groups. Here is a potentially incomplete list of their past and current clients for the year 2010:

Alzheimers Association
American Cancer
American Diabetes
American Heart
American Institute for Cancer Research
American Lung
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation
Ave Maria University
ChildFund International
Concerned Women for America
Coral Ridge Ministries
Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America
Faith & Freedom Coalition
Habitat for Humanity
International Fellowship of Christians & Jews
Jewish National Fund
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
March of Dimes
Media Research Center
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Open Doors
Operation Blessing
Prison Fellowship Ministries
Saint Jude
Smile Train
Telecom Pioneers
UNICEF
United States Citizens Association
US English

Recent Infocision tactics include predictive dialing and the use of multiple rotating numbers to frustrate caller blocking. Because campaigns can run for weeks and months, the call center is encouraged (if not obliged by contract) to keep pelting the same unresponsive targets through the bitter end. Charities are among the FTC DNC exemptions, even if third party for-profit firms are involved in collection.

Note that there may be overlap with other telemarketing firms working the same accounts in parallel, such as Donor Services Group, Echo Marketing, MDS, and Telefund. However, as phone campaigns from client groups also tend to overlap, it is quite possible (and has already happened here) to receive calls by the dozen each week. Ostensibly they are from different sources but often they all originate from Infocision.

This means that while you may successfully get on the internal DNC list for a single client group, Infocision is bound to call again soon for any of their other thirty-odd clients. Stronger countermeasures may require entry into a master DNC list for the call center itself, a sort of blanket protection. Sometimes you may get satisfaction from contacting the charity or interest group directly and reporting to them the irritation caused by its hired phone jockeys.

However, my records show that the same charities and PACs run the same campaigns at the same times each year. Some will add a call recipient to internal DNC as requested, then conveniently forget the request just in time for the next campaign. If comments to these caller databases sound strident, it's only because we are so very tired of saying "no" every day we are near a ringing phone and having to repeat and redirect our requests.

American Lung Association?? Since when do they call on SUNDAYS? Not exactly a way to foster goodwill, or garner a donation.

April 11th, 2010 Grover16 PA

I called the number back, why not it is toll free. The recording said it was the American Lung Association. It took perhaps 90 seconds to get to the option to remove my home telephone number; I only had to speak the number and then push one to confirm. The recording then said they have 30 days by Federal law to remove my number but they would try to do this within 2 days. This seems to me to be easy and straightforward. Let's see if this is the last call from them. When I compare being annoyed by an unwanted telephone call to our troops being in harms way or that there is no cure for cancer this seems to me like a minor issue.

These asses call everyday...it's a war of will between their auto-caller and my "caller blocker" on my treasured Panasonic phone. So far...it's 18 calls...18 calls blocked. I chuckle every time the blocker tells me it disconnected the call. A beautiful thing. I also chuckle every time I read one of these posts from folks who actually return the call and wade through the choices to "be removed from the list". Wow...are there no limits to the stupidity of some Americans???????

From the FCC Do Not Call government website:

You can register your phone numbers for free, and they will remain on the list until you remove them or discontinue service – there is no need to re-register numbers.

The Do-Not-Call registry does not prevent all unwanted calls. It does not cover the following:

*

calls from organizations with which you have established a business relationship;
*

calls for which you have given prior written permission;
*

calls which are not commercial or do not include unsolicited advertisements;
*

calls by or on behalf of tax-exempt non-profit organizations.

American Lung can hound people to death because they are a non-profit and are excluded from the do not call list. You can read more on the website: www.fcc.gov

April 5th, 2010 dlb SC

This is the message I got when I filed a complaint with the "donotcall.gov" web page:

We Are Unable to Accept Your Complaint

We are sorry, but we cannot accept your complaint. The number you entered, 877-504-6336, had not been registered for 31 days when you received the unwanted call.

Note: If your area code has recently been changed and you receive the message "Grace period has not expired" when you attempt to file a complaint, submit your complaint under your old area code.

Please print this page for your records.

Guess that is how some get around the "do not call" list. Get a new number every 30 days and continue to call numbers with impunity.

April 2nd, 2010 FYI

Those mentioning being on the Do Not Call List: charities, political messages, and anyone you have established a previous relationship with (banks, credit card companies, insurance, etc) are excluded. In other words, the Do Not Call list doesn't do squat in keeping the most annoying offenders from calling you.

These maggots 877-504-6339 have called on several occassions and have nothing to say (not even any identification ) I have done a search of this number and it comes up as the "North American Numbering Plan" )NANP. which says that calls from this number may be billed to your account.

The call is from the American Lung Association. As noted, they call and call. But if you call back there is a message which tells how to get off their list. Per the message, federal law allows up to 30 days for removal, but the message says they will attempt to remove your number asap.

If this is American Lung Association as stated by L.L. below, they're very annoying. Sometimes their name shows on caller ID and other times only this 877 phone number shows. This is not only a scam, but worse, these losers are using the identity of a real charity -- the American Lung Association -- to get around the Do Not Call Registery. They are NOT the American Lung Association. They will call you under all these numbers (and soon to be others), so ignore them, or make the caller's life difficult by abusing them on the phone: 917-793-5553, 917-793-5555, 917-793-5557, 917-210-4612, 917-210-4615.

Call came from New York on 10-17-09 at 09:38 hours CDT, My Lovely and Gracious made the mistake of picking it up too fast, and it was American Lung.

This is Portfolio Recovery Associates: If you go to this web page, you will see the thread for "The American Bar Association" on the "Who Called Us" web page. They use the number 773-922-5435: whocalled.us/lookup/7739225435

They have an affinity for calling people with the wrong caller ID - I believe this is a Felony.

LISTEN CLOSELY TO THE 2 MESSAGES - ITS THE SAME GUY MAKING THE RECORDINGS AND HE IS ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN A FELONY - JAIL IS LIKELY FOR THIS MAN!

The FBI has been notified as well asd the FTC,FCC AND NSA.

some scumbag claiming to be with American Lung Association. Wantd to send me encelopes to mail my neighbors. Told him I didn't think so.

April 11th, 2009 lena MD

Any unknow caller who doesn't leave a message gets blocked. Only scumbags call cold and don't have the decency to leave a message.

April 9th, 2009 Marie

This started in March 09. They call 3 times a day, around breakfast, lunch and dinner times. On the weekends they call anytime between 9 AM and 8 PM. Never leave a message. I also filed a complaint with the FTC. I also wrote a letter to American Lung Association and told them about my complaint filed with the FTC and that although I had contributed to them in the past, I never will again and to please remove me from their records. If this is American Lung, it's horrible to harass potential donors like this. If this is Portfolio Recovery, American Lung should sue their asses off.

March 30th, 2009 JB

This company keeps on calling, many times a day - all different hours and ANY DAY of the week! I usually screen my calls as I made the mistake one day of saying yes to "Diabetes Association" call for sending out mailings - which I will not do now as I believe they have given out my number as a good "mark"!

March 27th, 2009 Angela

They call every day, two or more times a day. Today I filed a complaint with the FTC and reported them to the National Do Not Call List. It's not American Lung Association, it's Portfolio Recovery Associates Inc. impersonating as the American Lung Association. It's fraud. Report them to the FTC and the National Do Not Call List.

March 25th, 2009 Kim

If this is really the American Lung Association, the ID should say so EVERY time. I'm not buying. I think it's solicitors.

March 25th, 2009 Bobbie NY

March 17th, 2009 EH CA

Oh, and just to be clear, it is in fact the American Lung Association (or so the recording says).

March 17th, 2009 EH CA

You can call the number (long distance, naturally) and take yourself off their list. I just did this today, so we'll see if it sticks.

March 12th, 2009 Fishwood MA

Same thing, I answered on 2 rings, nobody there. I called back, recording said they were American Lung Association. They (or Cancer) called me last month asking me to send letters to my neighbors. I told that operator my reputation with my neighbors was more valuable to me than any donation I'd give, so it wasn't nothing, neither do I have spare time. I went through a menu today, 1 to be removed, 3 to really be removed, entered my number, it was invalid so entered it again, 1 to confirm it, and the voice said while federal law allows them 30 days to remove my number from their list, they would make every effort to do so in a couple of days.

March 11th, 2009 Kate RI

These idiots call me not once a day, but twice a day. I usually don't answer, but I did yesterday and told them to STOP CALLING ME. Guess what, last night they called back and when I answered, they hung up. Just called me AGAIN, I told the BITCH to stop calling me and she hung up. LEAVE ME ALONE, YOU JERKS!

February 25th, 2009 ac

After daily calls for two weeks, I answered today. It was a pleasant young man who quickly assured me he wasn't asking for a donation. All he wanted was for me to help by addressing the letters they would send me to the people who live on my street and buying the stamps----sounds like a nice donation of time and money to me. I declined.

February 25th, 2009 dancer GA

I googled this number and found numerous people who say this is a debt collector in VA, called Porfolio Recovery Associates. They are junk debt collectors and are said to be bad news. I thought it odd that The American Lung folks would call me daily because I DID answer a call months ago and told them I was not interested in volunteering, and that call I believe was on the level. But these guys call daily. My answering machine is 'full' so they can't leave a message and I don't answer calls from people I don't know, so they can just call all they want and no one will ever be home. I believe this is fraud on their part if they are using the Am Lung Assoc as a cover to collect a debt they think is owed. The govt needs to look into this.

Have received more than one call from these people. Originally thought it could be a family member's number who I didn't recognize.I answered it and it was silent, got worried looked it up and got me to here. Would like to report them but don't know to who?

September 19th, 2008 ROBO KY

I called the number and the message said it was the Lung Association and that I would be called again. Just block the number.

September 5th, 2008 Rob IL

Today was the 2nd consecutive day they called. Didn't answer either call and they left no message. Will try the 30-day call removal option.

September 3rd, 2008 Kirsten OH

Call 917-210-0344 and select the option to "Hear more information or be removed from our call list". Once in that menu, select the option to be removed from the call list and enter your phone number when prompted. You'll be removed within 30 days. Charitable organizations are exempt from the DNC Registry, so threatening action won't do any good. Requesting to be removed from the list (or blocking the number if you have a VoIP phone capable of doing it) is the most effective.

August 26th, 2008 yuck DE

Oh yeah, and they called me in Delaware, about 8:30 PM. Not ridiculously late, but late enough to expect a family member or something important. Jerks.

August 26th, 2008 yuck DE

Yep, same stories as below. No message, or blank message. I called back and it's the American Lung Association, automated message. Press 1, then 3, and you enter your number and they'll remove it. Takes 30 days. Hope it works!

August 21st, 2008 Becky

This is the 2nd call in 2 days - didn't answer the first time because I didn't recognize the number. Today I answered; just heard the line noise and then a click. Then nothing. Irritating. Called back; got computerized recording stating it was the American Lung Assn. calling with an update - they'd asked me to send out their donation requests to our neighbors last year; I got no response from any of them and contributed myself. I most likely will not volunteer to do this again. I do not want any campaign updates, so I did the 30-day removal. Hope it works.

From February 26 to May 07, 2008 American Lung has called us 39 times. We believe that this is an excessive amount of phone calls-even for a non-profit organization. They never leave a message, but will call back the very next day. Does anyone know how to stop these excessive phone calls?!

May 2nd, 2008 Merri

They have been calling for weeks, leaving no message. I finally picked up, and it turned out to be the
American Lung Association, asking me to mail 10 envelopes for their campaign.

Seriously, they have called every day, twice a day for over a month. I have never answered. The just called TODAY - SUNDAY at 245. I called back and removed my number. This is nuts. They're off my charity list!

April 20th, 2008 Hugh FL

This number shows up daily and today (sunday), I answered and said hello three times and someone finally came on and I blasted her for calling on a SUNDAY. I thought telemarketing was illegal on Sundays. If it isn't, it should be. We get precious little respite from these idiots as it is. And, yes, I am on the no not call list. It is totally worthless.

2calls-no message-caller unknown

April 9th, 2008 sd

917-210-0344 called twice a day for almost a week. AMERICAN LUNG was listed as the caller. I finally answered the call which was a robo call and it took several seconds for the live body at the other end of the line to answer. I asked her why she was calling me twice a day. While she did remove my name and phone number from her list it became clear to me that she was really trying to contact an 87 year old relative of mine who is now in a nursing home and this calling company had somehow attached MY number to their list with her name.
They said I got so many calls because I didn't answer. Duh? I asked them if their joy in life is tormenting 87 year olds because they don't answer.
Also, due to the delay between answering and the live body coming on, most people would just hang up which would trigger more CALLS. DON'T CONTRIBUTE.

the usual scenario: hangs up just after the machine picks up.

April 3rd, 2008 pj NM

got another call on my business line again from these people. Called the number back - got the American Lung Assoc pre-recorded message line saying that they were calling to give me updates. Followed instructions to be taken off the list. We shall see if the calls stop in the next 30 days - says that the number should be removed in that amount of time.
