So yeah, I work for etech.  Yes, it's outsourcing for several companies, up to and including (are you ready for this?):
AT&T
Verizon
XM Radio
Cox Communications
DeVry college
Letourneu college
Keller University
Sattelite broadband Internet with Wild Blue

...just to name a few.  They say "calling on behalf of" because guess what?  They are doing just that!  Amazing, huh?
Like a previous poster said, they undergo all of the same training as "actual" company reps but for oh...roughly half the pay.  And trust me, they know EXACTLY what day and time it is and probably don't want to be talking to you any more than you want to talk to them.
There is an onshore and offshore location.  I can only speak for onshore, but I work with those folks and most of them aren't trying to screw you.  They are just trying to do their job in a small town without a lot of other options.
Now, this one's for you ATT/Bellsouth folks.  I know you are on the national DNC list and that's all well and good.  But if you have ATT now, have had ATT in the past 18 months, or have even just inquired about ATT in the past 6 months, you have what is referred to as an existing business relationship with that company.  This supercedes the national DNC and gives us poor bums every legal right to call you (look up the term if you don't believe me).  You DO have rights, though.  Ask to be put on ETECH's DNC list.  That'll take care of us.
Then all you have to worry about are all of the OTHER companies that ATT outsources to.

Got a call from this number today (2/1/10). I dealt with it by letting it go to voice mail. Nothing says you have to answer your phone when it rings and you don't recognize the number. They didn't leave a message. I do appreciate this site, though at least I've learned a little bit about what etech is.

JR, complaining to Congress about a corporation is a waste of time. Who do you think runs the government? Large conglomerate corporations. They pull the strings of the Federal Reserve and the Presidency, and they've lined the pockets of most politicians that write and enact the laws that protect the corporations. It's by design of the golden rule. Those who have the gold make the rules. Ask yourself; who has the gold?

I also received a call from this number. They said that it was from Yellow Pages and they wanted to update my contact information. They had my old address, so I figured that it would not hurt if I gave them my new address. I'm not hiding from anyone so I figure that if these people want to update my address, let them do it.

Anyways, I just got my first call from them today, and natural, I was curious after I received no response when I answered the phone. I called back, got the message saying I had reached ETECH INC, and hung up. I then googled the name to find the following site.

Anyways. >_< I then found THIS page almost directly below the first result. As a semi-starving musician and a kid who's working his way through college, I can relate to the people who are making the calls. They're just doing their job, trying to make a living, possibly using it for education, etc. Sure, this corporation's business practices are morally bankrupt, but that's something you can blame the greedy executives for, not their underpaid and overworked peons who are just trying to get by. Instead of using the people who do the corporation's dirty work as scapegoats, write a letter to your Congressional representatives asking them to pass laws that will close the loopholes this company uses to harass you. If you really want to bring down the company or at least get it to stop using dishonest practices, take action against the root of the problem instead verbally abusing the people it exploits. Good day.

i work at etech right now... and as im setting here reading some of the things that people wright and im laughing and talking about it with other co-workers... yes this is our job... but if you dont wont what we have to sell then tell us dont be rude or we will do the same right back... if not hang up on you... and that means that u will get another call in 30 minuets... so let us do our job and then you will be happy in the end as well...

Alliance Data equipment finds new home in Rusk with ETECH

Rusk officials didn’t let any dust settle after getting the word a telemarketing call center would open a branch in Rusk.

Rusk Economic Development Corporation bought and moved furniture and other equipment Monday from Alliance Data’s former location in Jacksonville. The items were moved to the building on the square in downtown Rusk where ETECH Inc. is locating. The expenditure was $30,500 of a $50,500 loan of REDCO’s 4A sales tax funds. The rest of the loan will go toward the renovation of the building.

“Alliance Data has been extremely helpful,” City Manager Mike Murray said Monday, as Rusk city workers and other volunteers helped load up chairs, desks, cabinets, decorative items and other equipment. “We’re excited. This (new business) is going to benefit people in Rusk and Jacksonville.”

Alliance Data closed its Jacksonville facility in April. Senior Director Russ Alloto, who was on hand Monday to help move the furniture, said the items sold are of no longer of use to the company.

“We didn’t need it at any other facility,” Alloto said.

Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation Director Darrell Prcin said the company JEDCO is in negotiations with to move into the Alliance building didn’t need the items, either.

“In this case, we’ll have to modify the center substantially, and (the furniture) was too big for what they would need,” Prcin said. “I’m glad someone can use it.”

ETECH Inc., which services AT&T cell phone customers, XM Radio subscribers and Capital One credit card users, is set to open a branch in the building on the corner of Fifth and Henderson streets on the square in Rusk.

Rusk council members approved the $50,500 loan — the first portion of an estimated $250,000 incentives package to the company — during a special meeting held May 9, upon the recommendation of Rusk Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Goldsberry.

“We feel this is an attractive package that’s very user friendly,” Goldsberry said during the meeting.

The Nacogdoches-based company first sought to locate in Jacksonville after Alliance Data Services closed, according to REDCO member Greg James, who has been instrumental in opening channels between the city and ETECH.

“I was involved in bringing the company to Nacogdoches when I was there,” James said during the special meeting. “They initially tried Jacksonville, but it just didn’t work out for a number of reasons.”

James said the company did labor force studies of the area recently and, with the closing of Alliance, thought a move to Cherokee County would be advantageous since former Alliance collection center personnel are already trained for the type of jobs they offer.

City officials said at the May 9 meeting the company could open as soon as June.

Murray said with the acquisition of the furniture and equipment, that date is closer to becoming reality.

“This puts us way ahead,” he said. “Now we can start working on getting the building ready for them.

“We want to thank everyone who helped us — either by donating trucks and trailers to haul this with or by helping load and unload. This has certainly been a county-wide community effort,” Murray said.

If the system is automated by the computer to do the dialing, and you give a negative response, even after the three times, why do you get called back again every day?

A simple solution to calls from this number and/or company: Hang up and immediately call the President of Stephen F. Austin State University. Simply tell him that, if he does not make a good faith effort to stop enrolled university students from using this company to violate federal laws, you will sue him PERSONALLY. This is a very quick and effective way to stop this once and for all.

After searching on-line, I see where others are being called by ETech such as dish network, discount air fares and bill collection. This is obviously a "for hire" company that calls for any reason they are paid to call. Since not all calls are not sales related, the DNC is worthless.

I work at ETECH currently, and I know this is not a real job but it is one of the biggest companies in my small..small college town. So pretty much everyone that works for ETECH is a college student just trying to make it by on minimum wage.

Received a call from this number. Stated they were with yellow pages. Asked if we had a business. Company was trying to get information.

These people call 4 times a day. They are so unprofessional...my answering machine picks up everything they say. Once I heard a conversation between a bunch of young teenagers and what they did over the weekend..used a lot of curse words. I have only answered once and told them to please stop calling and that I was not interested. Last night, I got a guy that said on my answering service.."What no one home...that sucks, you suck!" Who runs this mooron company anyways? Don't they listen in on their employees calls. I will be reporting them to the do not call list and any other list to stop these people from harrasing.

You guys are a bunch of idiots. Its people like you that made me lose my job. I worked for ETECH until today. They are not outside the law, they are a contracted telemarketing firm. They call for AT&T XM and Captial One, they now just had a new campaign open where they call and set up appointments for students to get into College.

To Cher (ie the comment below me): Ma'am I so badly want to tear into you but I won't. What I will respond to is the comment get a real job. I am former US Army, I got the job working at ETECH because it is a simple and easy job, and a hell of alot easier than what I used to do. I would ask you what you do, but I don't really care, because you are not better than me, period. I had a honest job, now given there were some employees who were not doing their job correctly, they were terminated. All of us at ETECH are good people. I personally hope that someone will annoy you to death from there, the worlds IQ standard would go up a full 10 points from your passing.

To the comments about the noone is there. I personally know that you are lying. What you would do is pick up the phone and hang up, before we have a chance to say anything. Happens to me on a very regular basis, so I have no sympathy for you.

To Mr James Bond.........really? Sir all you have to do is speak to the representative that called you. I have an idea of what campaign was calling, its an AT&T campaign that I worked on. Believe me sir when I tell you, getting your business line annoys us more than it annoys you because that cuts into the money that we make. The problem is that AT&T gives us 60,000 leads and does not shift through them to make sure the information is correct. If the numbers are incorrect we get business lines, Disconnected numbers, and the lot. Had you simply spoken to the rep they would have apologized for the inconvenience and they would remove you from the system. Thats all it takes.

To the people who want to be on the Do Not Call List. You do not understand the purpose of the list. You think that it stops all calls, that is your ignorance. If you have paid an invoice to for instances AT&T within the last 18 months, then AT&T can call you, even if you are on the do not call list. If you have requested information or had contact with again for instance AT&T within 18 months then they can still call you. So do not complain about that, its in the law. Secondly, if you wanted to get on the Do Not Call list, you are at the agents mercy. I personally never put people on the Do Not Call List, if they interrupted me, did not let me speak and finish the mandatory disclosure required by my company, or I just felt was being rude just to be so. So the next time you get a call, don't forget we are human to, and that it is our job like it or not, be polite and we will be friendly back, be rude and well, that's fine with us to. The best form of entertainment in that type of job is having people threaten you. I laugh right into the phone every time and then just hang up.

To the people who have legitimate complaints. I apologize to you guys. We know some people do not like our job, and we don't want to bug you guys believe me, and when you say not interested, we have to rebuttal 3 times. If we don't the admins feel that we are not trying and they wind up like me, out of a job. Again I am sorry that we inconvenience you from whatever it is that you are doing home while we are working, but it is our job just like you have yours, hopefully.

Ok, just got an auto-reply from one of the people I emailed at ETech. Her name is Mary Sommers and her email addy is mary.sommers@etechinc.com - her auto reply said she is out of the office today, but will be back on Monday 3/30 and if you had a Do Not Call request to email the receptionists. Well, I decided to call instead.

I called 936-559-2200 and pressed '0' and got an operator. I asked to speak to someone regarding being put on a "do not call" list and she said "well, first, I would like to let you know that if you are on the do not call list you will be missing out on some of our very valuable promotions. Would you still like to be on the list?" I told her yes, of course, and she took the phone number down and told me that it takes 24-48 hrs to be removed but it would be done. Very nice and cheerful woman actually - but I'm glad that I called.

I just filed a complaint with the Do Not Call website. I do not have dealings with any of the companies mentioned by others (so why do I have to call eTech directly?) and these people are apparently outside of the law. Someone there has to take action on this. Please file your complaint with them, the more the merrier.

Go to donotcall.gov and report these people! As long as you have been on the list for over 30 days you can do this!

I answered to tell them to stop calling (they have called several times and I don't answer)and the receiver had ringing in my ear! They call me and RING! I just hung up.

I am more than annoyed by salespeople these days. You cannot even walk through the mall anymore without people jumping on you. I have always been a shy and quiet person, but I am becoming belligerent with rude people. NOTHING annoys me more than people calling my house to sell me something or ask for charity money. I have continuously told these people not to call me and they continue to do so. Any help with these morons would be really appreciated. I cannot believe that they make any headway with people over the phone.

These calls are from the scum-bag marketing company E-Tech. I have no business relationship with them & I'm on the DNC list, & yet they call me. But here's the real point: Even if E-tech is representing some company that I do have a relationship with, everyone knows that the calls from E-tech are unwanted. Everyone knows they bother 100s of people before hitting a potential customer. While it may be legal for them to call some people, E-tech knows, the employees of etech know, & everyone else knows, that they are a royal pain in the butt & the work they do is not reputable or polite. It's a no-brainer. They (e-tech) bother people for a living. Begining and end. Not everything that's legal is good and considerate. They should all get a life and a real job.

Received a call from this number today. An Indian sounding voice wanted to know the "correct" listing of my phone number for the "Yellow Pages". First, my phone is unlisted. Second, it is a nonresidential account. Third, I've got a no solicitation clause in my service plan. Does anyone know who these people are as I'd like to take legal action for their intrusion on my privacy and for wasting my time.

Computerized call, I finally answered because they called several times a week, every day at least once to be exact. Phone rang, I picked up, got the computer ringing...person on other end picked up, asked to speak to me. I asked who was calling. They once again said they wanted to speak with me. I said it depended on who was calling. He said he was calling on for AT&T and wanted to verify some "personal information". I told him that I doubted that AT&T needed any personal information that they didn't already have and that I was not interested in any of their marketing calls. I told him that I wanted to be removed from his/AT&T's phone list. He said it was not a marketing list. I said I didn't care what kind of a call it was. I wanted to be removed from the list. He said he would and then I hung up.

This number started calling the same day I authorized a credit check to get pre-approved for a home loan. Since they've been calling a few times a day with nothing but dead air. My husband once stayed on the line for two full minutes to see if they'd hang up or anything, but nothing.

When they call you don't say the person they are asking for is not there because they will call you back. Trust me I use to work for them. Sometimes when I would call people they would really get a deal but they didn't want to listen. Some customers had old packages and they could have been upgraded to new ones if the customer took the time to listen that could save them money. I know people don't like telemarketers and I can't blame them for that belief since now days not everyone can be trusted. No offense to the company and no offense to the readers just wanted to leave a comment about this subject.

ETECH INC calls my phone EVERY DAY several times a day. I have never answered & never will. I wish I could get rid of them. They never leave a message. This should be against the law.

Seems that the second most commented subject would be the DNC list correct? IF YOU HAVE RELATIONSHIP WITH A COMPANY OR RUN BUSINESS THE DNC DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU MY FRIEND! If your number is on a company specific DNC list it only lasts two years then you get dropped. (kinda like bad credit) So heres some advice from me, If your polite to me & ask me to help you, im polite to you If your rude to me than you probably know what it sounds like when a phone hangs up right..? I wish there was room here to call out people specifically, but this is for the rude people. ~= ) Ill be real, REAL honest. I deal with rude people like you all day long. But I cant seem to make myself feel any pity for you. it actually makes me care less about how you feel. If your rude enjoy your problem have nice day, I cant tell you how to stop the calls. I work for Etech! Ive been sitting here reading these comments as I make calls to some of these people! I dont really leave comments on webpages such as this one. Most of the time I have better things to do! However since all of the bad-mouthing & threats seem to directed towards me & my fellow agents, I feel I should chime in & say something. First of all I make an honest living. I remain in compliance with what the law regulates. For the lack of a better term I play fair. So what that means is that im not a liar, or a scumbag, & especially not a crack dealer (as was mentioned by someone earlier) (i have chosen a better alternative). Anyway I wanted to touch on a few subjects here! Most of the comments are about calling with no message correct? Its a waste of our time to leave a message... so we dont, end of story.

I have a terminal disease. My telephone is used for medical and social purposes. The time we all have on this earth should not be wasted by selfish money grubbing mass marketers. so while you go on and on please remember what is really important. Put yourself in the position of someone like me.

Etech is a great company – and is the second largest employer in East Texas. Etech offers tuition and child care reimbursement, 401K plans, medical & dental insurance and much more!! Etech contributes to our local economies in Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Pasadena, and Rusk – all located in Texas. Etech is also a major corporation that is located in India. The next time you decide to sit around and complain about how you constantly are being called by Etech, do something about it and call 936-559-2200 and asked to be placed on the DNC list. THE NATIONAL DNC LIST WILL DO YOU NO GOOD – READ THE FINE PRINT BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE REMOVED FROM COMPANIES’ CALLING LISTS THAT YOU HAVE EXISTING BUSINESS TIES WITH & IF ETECH WORKS FOR THAT COMPANY, YOU WILL HEAR FROM ETECH UNLESS YOU GET PLACED ON ETECH’S DNC LIST.

I am completely amazed by the lack of intelligence that exists in this world!! Surely you all have better things to do than sit around and complain about Etech. In regards to the “get a real job comments” – I really would like to know, are you flipping burgers for a living? Maybe cleaning bathrooms? It takes talent to put up with angry customers like yourself and actually assure them that you want to help them out! With the current state of the economy, we could all use discounts on our current services – which is the reason for the calls at times…. While emailing Matt Rocco will get you a response, why bother? Just call the front desk!! That is what the receptionists are there for, just like they are for most reputable businesses.

To those defending telemarketers (here after refered to as a**holes). I have never purchased any thing based on a stranger interupting my day.I will never buy any thing from any company that uses this tactic, If you were/are polite I will also be polite. Don't use a computer to call and connect me to a (he or she isn't there, they are still bothering some one else) person so that all I get is dead air then hung up on. This is a sure way to be on my bad side when/if you call back. If I say I am not interested then accept that and don't call me back, I won't be happy or polite about it. They tried to connect me to pay per minute phone sex line

Rang a couple times. I picked up. No one there. Swore are the dead air, hung up, and came to this site. Hate it when I take the time to answer and all I hear is nothing.I called them back, spoke to management, threatened to file a DNC complaint (which I did) and this yahoo tried to tell me that they were AT&T and that my phone service was AT&T. I told him he was dead wrong.

Oh, and to the Etech person who yelled at everybody on the board - I gave you people two opportunities to "talk to me", in spite of the friggin deceitful crap you tried to pull, and I STILL GET CALLS. I understand you may not have control over it, but as long as you keep being so obnoxious you're gonna get those types of responses. And the control you do have - get a different job. If you don't like people yelling at you, quit calling them when they don't want it.

The company is Etech, Inc, which actually does show up on my caller ID. Had gotten several calls with no one on the line - or it would start ringing like it was transferring to another number but no one would answer. Finally got a person one day - said he was calling to give me the new customer service number for AT&T, then proceeded to try and sell me more phone services. Got a second call - somehow had forgotten who and what they were - and as soon as the guy said "I see you have AT&T phone service" it clicked in my mind who it was. I told him I had the services I wanted and was not interested in anything else. He said "oh no, I'm calling to tell you you are eligible for a $50 check." I said ok and he then proceeded to tell me that I had to sign up for another service to get it. I repeated what I had said before - a little more forcefully - and he hung up on me. Have gotten two more calls already today.

I am on the DNC list. This is the third call that my answering amchine recorded. I figured that I would call them back at the number that was listed on my machine. I called and after hearing a few clicks (that I took for connecting clicks)I was talking to AT&T. I informed them of what happened and they stated that it wasn't AT&T that called. They asked for the phone number that was left on my machine and I told them. They said that their number was ***-886-****. Their number, in no way, matched the Etech Inc number.

CONTROL AT ALL OF WHO GETS CALLED AND WHO DOESNT. EVERYTIME SOMEBODY ASKS TO BE PUT ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST WE DISPOSITION THE NUMBER AS DO NOT CALL AND LET THE CUSTOMER KNOW IT WILL TAKE UP TO 30 DAYS FOR IT TO GO IN EFFECT AND BE REMOVED FROM ALL OF OUR LISTS. Caller identified himself as from AT&T yellow pages but caller ID said Etech. He wanted to verify my business info. I refused and said I never advertised with AT&T and stated that I was on the do not call list.

Well, Folks! It's been nearly a month now, and all call from ETECH,INC. have completely stopped! Not a one! When I sent that email to John Pennebaker, I put on the subject line, "Stop Your Harassing Phone Calls!" He forwarded my email to Mary Sommers, Executive Assistant who wrote and said that our phone number was removed from their (as I called it) "harassing call list". It was less than the 48 hours which I gave them. NO MORE PHONE CALLS in the early morning hours. Wow! I can sleep! (Now I have to set my alarm clock to wake up!)

It shows Etech Inc on my caller id, but it must not be very important beacuse they never leave a message.

This number has been calling my cell phone about 2:00pm ish everyday while I am at work. I don't have a home phone line so not sure what telephone service they would be trying to convert me to... or how they got my cell number.

Just got a new number. MANY calls a day, nobody on other end. Says etech on ID!!

This website is great. I got the right info to stop this BS.
I filed a complaint at donotcall.gov (I have already been listed with the DNC registry for more than 31 days)
I called 800-397-1083 (Entech) and asked to be removed from their dialer and they promptly took the phone number to do so.

Now I will wait 48 hours to see if it stops.

IF it does not stop I will....
- Contact AT&T's Compliance Office mentioned in several of the comments herein
I will start logging all the calls I get. Show proof of DNC registry.
Take ETECH to small claims court and hit them in the pockets.....
THEN, write a letter to AT&T cancelling services

After many months of early morning phone calls from this number, I read the messages on the Internet site "Whocalled us", and I emailed John Pennebaker, at Etechinc.com - Director of Compliance and Operational Excellence, to have my number removed from the company's calling list. In 48 hours, I received a reply from Mary Sommers, Executive Assistant with Etech.inc, as my email was forwarded to her - and she wrote that my phone number was removed. Simple! No calls this morning!

I just play "By THe Sea, By The Sea" by Spike Jones in their ear. Never heard a voice.

MARKETING CALLS - MY number is unlisted ???. This phone number is now blocked forever. My phone will never ring with them again

Just recently started receiving these calls on my cell at around 7:30A even though I'm on the DNC Registry. Tried calling back with my number blocked and it went to an automated menu ("Press 1, Press 2..."). Chose 0 to speak with a rep to tell them to take me off their list, but it went silent and hung up. WHY can't companies allow you to block people from calling you?

Forget AT&T, I'm on the DNC list and I got a call about XM Radio. I don't subscribe to XM Radio and never have.

They have called several times. When the answering machine gets it, they don't leave a message. Today,they called 3 times in a row- once, I picked up and hung up when I saw the number and name. Another time I told him not to bother me again, that I was on the do not call list. He was apologetic, and said that he was looking for the VFW hall. He had an Asian accent. Then, when I tried to access my email on my computer, it wanted my password, which would be OK, except for the fact that I have a picture for a sign-in seal! I had to find out what to do about that. The email co. said that it could have been compromised. So, I removed all temporary cookies. Then, it worked as it should, showing my sign-in seal! Is it possible that the phone call was connected to this problem?

They call about once a week (guess I am lucky compared to others here) I never answer, they continue to call. What are you gonna do. It looks like they don't care.

Claimed they were calling on behalf of ATT. I'm not an ATT customer and have not been for many many years, and my number is also on the do-not-call list. They were trying to verify postal information they found associated with the phone number. When I asked what their company did, and it finally came up they were data marketers, the caller said he would take my number of their list. If they call again, I won't be as nice.

I sometimes receive calls twice a day from this number. It goes to the answering machine & then it's like a phone off the hook. The phone company delivers the message "Please hang up if you'd like to make a call" & then it goes to a constant beeping like the phone's off the hook fo 30 seconds. The answering machine message is just a bunch of ticking sounds, It's really annoying. The one time I picked the phone up to blast them, nobody was on the other end. It's become harassment at this point.

This company has repeated called us between 7:25 and 7:35 am, and sometimes again later in the same day. We have asked to be put on their DNC list. They say they are calling on behalf of AT&T. Since we do business with AT&T, I called AT&T to verify this. AT&T says that ETech is one of their vendors and not calling on their behalf. I told AT&T that they should be aware of the practices that this vendor of theirs is using and that they should STOP using them. I verified that I am on AT&Ts DNC list to make sure no loophole. The next time ETech called us, I took names, asked to talk to supervisors, asked for phone numbers (they told me to look on my AT&T bill), but I insisted and they gave me 800-222-0300, which does not match my bill or caller ID. I asked for a mailing address, they refused. I asked for a written copy of their DNC policy, and they said they would email it, but I have still not received it. They keep calling. They say it takes a few days to be put on their DNC list, but has been many days and they still call. I want this to stop but do not know what else to do. Every time they call, I take names and ask for the same stuff: phone#, mailing address (never have gotten that), to be put on DNC list (they say they will add me), and a verification of that in writing (have not received), with a written copy of their DNC policy (have not received that either). My suggestion to everyone who visits this site is that find out what company they say they are representing, then call that company and complain about them. Maybe with enough complaints this will stop?

These idiots work on contract for Dish, ATT and other massive companies. They use what is called a predictive dialer that calls phones numbers in the system to determine when someone is likely to answer and then assign that information to an outbound dialer where they have a higher probability of getting someone on the phone if you answer your call is instantly reported to some moron who is trying to sell you something. It could not be more annoying and the practice probably skirts the do not call laws with regard to the sampling for an answer. As for the legitimacy of the calls it would depend on whether or not you have done business with ATT, Dish or whoever else they are representing for that call.

This was a telemarketing call to get me to continue my contract with XM Radio. I recently purchased a GM car that came with a 3 month trial of XM. I am on the DNC list! While the call was legitimate, I believe they should use mail to convert me to a paying customer if I am DNC.

The caller Id showed as Etech. Etech is simply a call center service used by large companies to to B-to-C and B-to-B telemarketing. I don't know if Etech or XM is reponsible for adhereing to the DNC laws. It probably depends on who supplied the list. I'm sure I could complain about both companies if I was so inclined....

Bellsouth sells your number to these guys do not talk to them they will change your service without your permission!You must call bellsouth and request they not sell your number as soon as you get a new one!I speak from experience.

This has been going on for OVER 2 YEARS and I cannot get it to stop!!! This is rediculus but I do not know what else to do. I have reported them but it seems to do no good! Unbelievable about these people. They have been calling my house for months now and anywhere from 8am Eastern time to 10pm. Multiple times a day. I am at home recovering from foot surgery and decided to pick up the phone to find out why they keep calling. The guy on the other line was foreign, couldn't understand him, so I hung up. No more than a minute later he calls back asking me why I hung up. I told him that I didn't understand a word he said, didn't care to know what he was selling, and to stop calling my house all the time. Told him if he called back I would report him. So I started looking into last night and here I am reading what everyone has to say about it. This company should not have the right to do this and it should stop!

They've left a few calls with someone just saying 'hello' a few times, then hanging up. Finally got one today where they said my name, so I *69'd and found out about this company through google. I called their 800 number, and when I hit 0 for an operator, it redirected to At&t. Then I called and chose a line to buy a product, got stuck in a loop, and am now on infinite hold.

Made DNC registry complaint, but that will probably not do much. This is aggravating,

Called first (today) and there was the typical telemarketer's delay so I hung up. He called right back and said "I'm with AT&T, your phone company". After I told him I wasn't interested and hung up he called back again but didn't leave a message when I let the answering machine take it. My caller ID showed at least 10 calls from this number in the last month. I'm on the DNC list but apparently that doesn't mean anything.

This number continues to call my number. If it keeps up we will contact the local law enforcement office.

Johnny said it was a customer service call from AT&T and wanted to update online yellow pages for AT&T and had our old address so I gave him our post office address and he tried to ask for more info. They just tried to call again and my other associate asked them to not call anymore.

These people just called me. They wont say anything. I just listened after saying hello and I could hear an open line and it hangs up after about a minute.

The policy in this house is if we do not recognize the name/phone number we do not answer. First I blocked my caller ID (dial *67); then dialed this number back. Automated system said press "0" for operator, and I requested that they STOP calling me. She said they would. I have been getting calls all day long... and have reported them to the donotcall.gov site 4 times. I hope this stops the calls.

I found the name of a contact person on another site, and left e-mail messages 3 times to remove my number from their lists. Received response, calls stopped for a couple of weeks. Now they're calling again!!!

Lady spoke with very poor English. She knew the words but could not pronunciate. She was very persistent in getting what she wanted. She asked said she was working for AT&T. Looking for information about my personal company business - name, type of work. I had difficulty understanding what she was saying and said so. She repeated a couple of words that she knew she thought she was saying correctly and would then ask, "Yes?, yes?". When I finally realized what she was saying, I replied, "Yes". It's been 12 hours since the call and now I concerned that I agreed to something I don't know about.

Says ETECH on Caller ID. They called 7 times yesterday, never said a thing, just hung up. We are on the DNC list, always have been, and we are BellSouth customers (now AT&T). They have been calling almost every day for about a year and a half. We have filed a complaint.

Foreigners (Indians) calling asking for some department in some company. I can't understand anything they say. I have asked each one to send a copy of their no call policy and they say they don't know anything about that. I tell them I'm on the national no-call list and they just ignore me. I tell them to put me on their no-call list and send me a confirmation and they say OK but I just get more calls. Also in violation of FCC rules their predictive dialers do not connect to a person within 2 seconds. I have reported them to the FCC for each violation and have started proceedings against the company in Nacogdoches to sue for each violation ($500 each). Contacted the company by email and got no reply.

I am registered with the Do Not Call List and still receive disturbing calls from unknown companies or organizations. This same Etech Inc who was phoning me last year in 2007 has now started up again in 2008! This is very annoying! They call and do not leave any message and hang up. Seems these bent on disturbing folk have more productive tasks to do than harass innocent people who have absolutely no interest in telemarketing surveys. I am most thankful for your website to help us report these unnecessary disturbing calls. We can expose these people to everyone else so others aren't made to feel they are the only ones out there being "ding-donged" to death!

After many months of telling these people that we weren't interested and that we wanted on the do not call list and getting nowhere, and knowing that we are on the national do not call list I found out that they are able to get around that because they work for a company that we already do business with (AT&T). They are so persistent that today they called, I hang up; they called right back, I told them we were not interested and add us to the do not call list, and hang up; they called back right back, and I told them that if they called again I was filling harrassement charges; they didn't call back. I then called AT&T and made them remove us from the list of people they can call, and now I'm double checking our national do not call registration. If they call again I will file harrassement charges because you shouldn't have to tell them more then once not to call again.

Just registered DNC today. This name calls 3 - 4 times a day, no answer after 5 seconds. I hang up.

I picked up this time and waited as a ring tone started then someone picked up on the other end and said, "who's calling?" I stayed on the line, heard noise like the person was in a room full of other people and when I did not respond they hung up.

They called again and this time someone talked. They are trying to say they are from AT & T. I don't believe this. I've told them not to call me once before and they keep calling.

I called ETECH directly and asked for a compaint department representative. This was after 5 calls. I spoke with a woman named Mary who states she will send my number to the IT department and place my number in a "non-callable" status. I am also on DNC, but hope this works.

Person with heavy accent addressed me by my first name and asked if I handled the energy bills in my home. I responded with 'yes', then he said he wanted to talk with me about Reliant - my energy company. I immediately told him that I did not want to discuss my service and that I wanted him to take my name off of his calling list. He yelled at me and said that he was not going to change my service. I yelled back (childish, I know) and told him that I was not worried about that - but that he was to take my phone number off of his list immediately - I did not want another call from him or his company. He said okay - I hung up as he was still saying, okay, okay, okay.....

Called, kept acting as though there was a bad connection. I asked 3 times if it was a solicitation call, so I could inform them that I was on DNC list, and not to call back. Foreign accent, again, acting as though he couldn't hear me.

They called, I answered. Said he was calling from Bellsouth and gave me info about my service. But he kept phrasing it in questions...I don't ever use affirmatives with telemarketers because I heard they will take out your "yes" or "right" or "that's correct" and use it to get you for some bogus service. So use neutral terms and get them off the phone fast!

i work at a small counseling office, and they keep leaving black messages. its filling up my machine, and i am worried that people seeking help will not be able to leave messages because they have filled up my machine.

Been calling on and off for months. I am sick of it. I am taking care of my elderly mother who is very sick, and these idiots won't stop calling. I came from my brothers' funeral and guess who the first call came from? Never do they say a word. I emailed the contact address and made it plain that I want these calls to stop. Someone named Mary returned my email stating she was sorry and would stop the calls. Not waiting to see. I have had enough. Now it's my turn, I filed a report to the DNC and next I will see how they like getting messages from me like 1,000 or so a day. These people are heartless. Please help me out by filing a report, calling your state representative, (tomorrow' task)or anything you can do to aggravate or stop them.

These people call me about 3 times a day and have been for weeks and even late in the evening when I am going to sleep. I am on the dnc list, too. I will take the call next time and report their company to the BBB. Fed up!

I was recieving several call a week from this company. I called and spoke with the COO, Matt Rocco. What a classy guy. He explained their business, they are hired by companies such as AT&T, Capital One, Verizon and others to handle sales and customer service calls. They do not make any calls on their own but are representing these large companies. He took my phone number and stated he would place it on their internal DNC. Calls should stop within 48 hours or sooner. We shall see.

They called 12/18 no message

They called back 12/19 and I answered but it just rang with no one picking up on their end....reported to do not call registry for both instances.

They are calling me twice a day now.

Calls over and over and over, never says anything, but contiues calling. We are on the DNC list but that list

In researching the number I find it is AT&T marketing communications services and is connected to several individuals names at a south Texas address and has some ties to Texas A & M - maybe they are doing the calls. This solicitor called on a Sat. at 12:22pm. When I answered pretty quickly and said hello one time, no one said anything.

did a reverse look up to see who/what this call was. they call almost everyday. different times but usually in the evenings. i answer and no one says anything then you hear a click. how do i find out if it is bellsouth. i am also on DNC list. do i need to call bellsouth and have them stop. any help would be appreciated.

This number appears daily on my caller id. Sometimes multiple calls per day.

I receive calls from Etech 5-6 days a week, despite the fact that I am on the national do-not-call list. They usually call and hang up, staying on the phone line just long enough to leave a blank message on my answering machine. They call at almost all hours of the day, morning and evenings. If it doesn't stop soon I plan on taking further action in terms of seeing them fined for harrassment.

Call came through and when I answered no one responded. I hope my telezapper will stop these calls.

I just put my number on their DNC list. I called 936-559-2200 and pressed O for the operator and they took my number and put me on the DNC list. They were calling up to 6 times a day for the last two weeks.

Call from this number, but no one there. When I called to complain, it took me through a menu, then put me on hold, then hung up on me.

I am a Bell South customer so apparently they can keep calling even if i'm on the DNC. Whenever i ask to be removed from a list, I get calls from another number apparently associated with Bell South. I'm not sure if the calls or from BS or if they have sold my number. It is frustrating when I answer and no one says anything. One time someone called claiming to be from a BS collection agency asking me for my credit card number. When I inquired about the call, one person from Bell South said the call was legit. Someone else told me the call was not associated with Bell South.

Claimed to be AT&T. wanted my name and telephone number. when I asked them to repeat who they were they hung up

Caller said calling from AT&T on-line directory to verify company address. They had incorrect address, I declined to provide info.

I just get hangup calls. I do answer. I am on the DNC list and have asked to be put on Bellsouths DNC list. Apparently BS keeps contacting me from different numbers?

Has anyone though about calling Bell South? Following the money is a sure fire way to find the heart of the problem. As long as Bell South is willing to pay, there will be companies willing to hire desperate college students. You may be taken off one call list but Bell South will pay someone else to call you. Start harassing the marketing people at Bell South.

I have no problem with telemarketers doing their job; however, calling more than once a day is harressment. That is what is pissing people off. I can handle one hang-up phone call, but when it is multiples times a day it makes me mad. Would you like me to call you repeatdly and hang up on you? (Especially during dinner?)

This company LIED to me. They said they were with AT&T. While on the call I looked up their phone number on this site. Were they ever shocked when I confronted them on the lie they were telling me.

It is not honorable or ethical to accept a job harrassing people, whether that means you can't go to college or not. I'm getting those calls, being interrupted from my "real" life. I do have a "real" life and I don't want telemarketers to be part of it.

I work at a call center right now, and let me tell you, I hate those phone calls just as much as everyone. I know that a telemarketer is considered by most as the lowest of the low, but cut us some slack. We are all just trying to carve out our living just like everyone of you. We are real people just like everyone else, we have feelings, lives, and families. I know that is it annoying to have all of these repeated calls, if you answer it and ask them not to EVER call you again, the calls will stop. It saddens me that a bunch of normally nice people can be so rude when it comes to a simple phone call. When you watch TV you have to endure the commercials, people don't waste valuable time making fools of themselves by complaining on this site. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got two calls today from this outfit. Both hangups.

I do want to clarify one thing concerning the so-called "Do Not Call" list. If I understand the law correctly (and someone correct me if I am wrong), being on the list does not mean you cannot be called. There are several exceptions. Charities can call you, I believe. So can political campaigns. And, most importantly, any organization with which you have conducted business in, I think, the previous 6 months can call you. If, for example, you have an account with BellSouth and BellSouth contracted with Etech to perform telemarketing on its behalf, Etech is probably well within their rights to call you. Granted, BellSouth isn't getting their money's worth if all Etech does is hang-up on people, but that doesn't mean they are doing anything illegal.

Of course, none of that should stop us from complaining to them directly, but, according to my understanding, complaining about a violation of the do-not-call list law is probably a waste of time.

They kept calling my home, finally went online to donotcall.org and filed a complaint. This should be done on all telemarketers, especially if you ARE on the DO NOT CALL list and they keep calling......

We should all harass the heck out of each and everyone of them.

Me again. Sorry. It's been about 24 hours since I made my polite request to be removed from ETECH's (and its clients') call lists -- not 48 hours yet, I know -- and when I came home this evening there were TWO hangup non-messages from ETECH on my answering machine. So I'll wait, and we'll see.

In the meantime, I'll add a word for the undergraduate kiddies who express their loyalty to their corporate masters by telling people who have been paying phone bills for decades to "grow up" and cheerfully accept the daily intrusions on their privacy: Try to understand that you are not working for the only company that makes its living from this parasitic practice, and one day you may understand that the only universe you're at the center of is your own.

Thanks to whoever it was who posted the email address (matt.rocco@etechinc.com) to send DNC requests to. I just sent one -- politely enough that I hope to avoid retaliation -- so I'll see what happens.

In the meantime, here's a comment for whoever said we should support and sympathize with ETECH employees because they're just doing their (low-paying) job, the same as McDonald's workers. I have no interest in eating anything McDonald's serves, but I respect the people who work there. However, if McDonald's sent their people into my neighborhood every day with sacks of greasy crap to bang on everybody's door and hawk their disgusting wares, I would have different feelings about them.

Has been calling my CELL PHONE everyday around 12pm except on weekends. If answered, rings to another phone apparently, I hang up. Very irritating.

My Grandmother keeps getting calls from this Etach company. She is 82 years old and confined to a chair most of the time because of severe arthritis, and these people have been harrassing her 4 to 5 times a day which is ridiculous, especially when no one is on the other end of the line when she picks up.
I've done phone sales before and I know most of them are trying to just earn a living, but the company, legitimate or not has no right to harrass an 82 year old woman 5 times a day.

A male called on behalf of AT&T. He sounded like he was calling from India, ie his English was really bad and he didn't even have a Texas accent. He called on my home phone, not on my business phone.

I am now receiving 6 - 8 calls per day from this number. Nobody is on the other line, and I've tried to return the call . . . however, the option to "Speak to a Customer Service Representative" (by dialing zero) immediately drops the call. In the past, I have asked to be removed from their calling list at least 3 times, however it is not happening. The individual on the other end of the line always speaks with an Indian accent, so it may be a systems issue between Bellsouth and the outsourced vendor, ETech, Inc.

When calling back, I can tell that there is a link to Bellsouth and AT&T, however I am unaware of how any of us can remove ourselves from their list. ETech, Inc. claims to be a "Customer Relationship Management" outsource vendor, however they are more like a Customer Relationship Destroyer.

I am calling Bellsouth & AT&T right now to file a formal complaint.

I'm on the DNC list, and I'm disgusted with these companies that think they can buck the system!

Two calls about an hour apart. Claimed to be from Davenport University about information I had requested. I told the person on the phone I never requested information from these people. He then asked if I lived near some Campus I've never hear of. When I told him no I lived in Oregon, he immediately hung up

I just received a called from this number and it came up at Etech. I called it back, blocking my phone number. I pressed zero to get a representative. I shared with her that I have been receiving calls from this number and it came up as Etech and she immediately said, "that's us." I alerted her to this problem and towards the end fo the conversation, she said that the company is aware of the problem and have been trying to work on it. I asked her to add my number to DNC list and she said it should take up to 48 hours and she apologizes if I receive another call. I am actually baffled that such a large company, Bellsouth which is now AT&T would carry on in this manner. Frankly, I'm not impressed. If they really have a "wonderful" deal for us, insert it in the bill. End of story. Thought I'd share my experience today and encourage each of you to call the number back and asked to be put on the do not call list. This has left a sour taste in my mouth for this company now.

I justed called and asked to speak to Megan the lady on the phone said she was not there today but asked if she could help. I asked to be put on their DNC list and she asked for my phone number (I could here her typing my number in the computer.) She said it would take 24-48 hours to be removed. They don't call you and, surprise, they don't know who you are if you just call them up and start hollering, demanding to be taken off the list and then refuse to give your number. Sorry, but see, here's how it works:
-You give your number to Megan.
-Megan submits a list of numbers to I.T.
-I.T. runs a "delete query" on the databse to remove your numbers from the dialer system
-your number is removed.

They allow you to block certain numbers within , say , a 4 state area but nothing beyond that for their stupid fee . You can block any incoming call either from an entire area code such as 800,888 etc or just one particular number .I love mine and very rarely get any calls anymore. I just blocked this number today so adios to whoever these idiots are . This device is well worth the $100 I paid for it . Try it , you'll love it .

I too am in sales (for ATT) so originally I had some compassion for their plight. Selling upgrades to DSL service can't be a fun way to make a living. But after looking at this website I reeally don't care.
I am guessing that this company has an agreement in place where they sell services and get compensation for each sale they get. Anyone can do this type of sales for the phone company. But if Bell South (especially now that they have merged with ATT) knows they are making them look bad they will do something about it.
The phone company (ATT) is always concerned about thier reputation and fair sales tactics (if for no other reason than when they get sued, they get sued big). So if people complain to ATT about this they will look into it and possibly break relationships with the company.

I tell ya, some of you guys are really, seriously, great! You can read, and figure things out! It's simple, if you don't like the calls, request to be removed from the list. Others.. well... you need prayer.

When it's demanded, it's irritating, and less likely to be done. If you just yell, holler, scream or cuss.. then don't expect anything but dial tone in return. Do you want us returning the favor? I mean, we could, and you couldn't do a think about it b/c what goes around comes around, ya know?

If you are patient, and listen to the person you're requesting from - they will explain to you that it does take up to 30 days to be removed, that way, if you get an "accidental call" you'll know just to disreguard it.

The info on this page is all you need to request... you're already at the PC - email the compliance officer... or hey, if you HAVE the DSL they're calling about, pick up the phone and request.

Maybe it's the simplicity that's scaring the majority of you? It has to be!

Well Number 4 today. And this time not only was there dead silence but they hung up on me. Suffice to say this is a case of harassment and I told them so in an email and that I am calling the cops.

Out of curiousity I decided to check where Bellsouth was available. Bellsouth isn't even available in Missouri. If this bunch is with Bellsouth then why are they calling me. Upon further research I see the phone number belongs to a telemarketer, even if they were once employed by Bellsouth they sure aren't now.

The calls I get are the dead silence kind, 3 of them now in two days. And of course as others of you posted I too have received dead silence on the other end two out of three of the times. The third being that I didn't even answer. Anyways I gave anyone on the other end and earful, assuming there was an earful.

Anyways I am going to call the cops if they call again cause calling you and there being dead silence multiple times is nothing but harassment.

MANY, many calls for the last few months. Interesting to knw it was Bellsouth, my own phone carrier, behind this. Typical - calls a few times each week (last time, it was almost 10pm EST), but no one is there.

Asked to talk to my wife, told him she wasn't home and he said he'd call back later then hung up.

Maybe you aren’t interested in saving money, a long-distance plan, or any internet services, but there are plenty of people out there that do. The people that post on this board are the same people I see everyday who are on an outdated plan or overpaying for services. If you just take 5 minutes out of your day to just say hello, and no thank you we will stop calling you for a while. Usually 3-4 months, which we call you again to inform you of new services or maybe your situation has changed…before I was a telemarketer I never really understood how it all worked, so now you know.

I have a question for the people we supposedly call on cell phones, do you have your house phone forwarded? Darwin award…..

We call on what’s called an automated dialer. Sometimes it connects to a call and there isn’t an agent to answer it. Another reason is its going to keep calling a number until someone picks up the line. We don’t just have a list of numbers in front of us that we call, we talk to whoever answers, which is 10-20 seconds after YOU say hello. Sorry this is the best technology out there. Research predictive dialers…if you come up with a better idea, you’ll be rich.

If you would get a new phone company other than BellSouth then Etech will stop calling you.

if you dont answer when you get a call such as these, the AUTOMATIC DIAL, not the actual empoloyee throws ur name back in the database since you "WEREN'T HOME" so if you're home, and dont want them to call...... politely ask to be put on the DO NOT CALL list and wait for the disclosure to ENSURE you're on it, otherwise - - YOUR phone company will call you when they have things to offer you *gasp*

They called for AT&T to try to sell faster DSL service. During the time we were talking, was disconnected. How about that, someone representing the phone service is disconnected while trying to sell a phone service. (HA! HA! HA!)

see this # on caller ID all the time since getting a land line again. am tired of it. was working at home today so I picked up to tell them I am on DNC. line rang twice on their end, woman picked up, then hung up.

I found Etech's website and tried to contact them to get these calls to stop. Their "contact us" link is invalid and the 800 number provided is useless. What a bunch of BS!

Mom gets 7-8 calls an no one is every there dead space. I had told her to tell them that she is on the no call list but never anyone there to tell this to! How annoying!

I called the number back. It is a sales call offering FAST ACCESS DSL and long distance service for Bellsouth. I think that's interesting since Bellsouth no longer exist. I just put them on hold and left them since that seems to be what they do to me.

This must be a CONTRACTOR for BellSouth & AT&T. They continue to call regardless if you are on the DNC registery or not. I think a class action suite would be in order to stop the calls!

Have been getting calls many times for the past week. They stayed on long enough for the answering machine to kick in and left blank messages. Caller ID indicated the number - 936-559-2200. I'm on DO NOT CALL list, don't know how they could still call my number.

Have never got an answer when I pick up call. Have gotten over 30 calls in 1 month. I am on DNC, my answering machine informs all telemarkets to remove me from there lists. For those that mentioned Bell South I am with Quest, they probably have no conection to either company.

Etech, Inc, formerly Effective Teleservices, Inc, formerly Berry Direct (when it was owned by Bellsouth) is a marketing company mainly based out of Nacogdoches, TX. However, it has call centers in Lufkin, TX and Qandahar, India. It is a telemarketing agency, whose VP/VPO is Matthew Rocco, Director of Operations is John Pennebaker, and Senior Operations Manager is Robert Wagner (though he is apparently leaving soon).
The company is about as crooked as they come, and very poorly operated (all of their high-quality IT and management members are gone or are expected to leave soon).
Their agents are practically unsupervised, so they almost never leave a message when noone picks up, and they stuff their outbound calling queues well beyond the legal limit (they also scrub their lists by adding people who've been called already in order to ensure they get paid for scheduled dialing projections).
You may call the Nacogdoches office at 936 559 2200. Either tell the receptionist to put you on their DNC list, or ask for John Pennebaker or Matt Rocco and chew them out.

From comments here, it must be related to the fact I'm a Bellsouth customer -- now the New AT&T. I've been getting this in my Caller ID since the branding for New AT&T went into full force. Pretty sad when your phone company spams you with unwanted phone calls.

I called them back. It is a company called eTech..the automated attendant says they provide CRM service on behalf of or in conjuction with Bell South..(not sure)...pressed -0- and spoke to their staffer Nancy who promised to enter my numbers into their DNC list..she was pleasant and accomodating.

I called up Bellsouth and the woman said that "no we don't sell your phone number" and I quoted what people have said on this site. I then went on "do you know who Etech is?" they said "no". They added on $4.99 for privacy directory thingy which I think is stupid since I am already on the DNC list. And whats the hell is the point of DNC? I still get telemarket calls!

They first call with an 800 number and now they call with the 936 number. I don't answer these type of calls regardless.

They call me every day, and every day I don't answer. I initially found them using a Google search on the number (which led me to whocalled.us!) Known as Etech, Inc. or Effective Teleservices Incorporated, they clearly aren't trying to hide their identity, which is more than I can say for most of the mysterious spam calls I get.

This company calls every day several times a day. I am a bellsouth customer and I complain because their customer service sucks so badly. Every time I have to call their technical support for DSL some jerk puts me in a que to be called by this number continuously. I yelled at the last idiot that called here but they don't care.

Got a call twice today from this number. No one on the other end. I tried to call back to find out who they were and to tell them to leave me alone, that my number is on DNC. No answer..found the 800 number and it said that the lines were to busy to answer the call. I will report every time they call because this needs to stop.

Calls at least 4 times a week. Has been calling for at least 5 months, always before 5PM EST. Was finally home from work early one day and answered just to see who the hell has been calling for the last few months. Turns out it's AT&T / Bell South (Merger). When I answered there was a pause, then it ringed out to another number or extension and I was connected with someone that had an Indian or Pakistani dialect. He wanted to consolidate my phone bill (2 seperate lines with different call features). The catch was that it would be $20 a month more than what I'm paying now for service. I declined within the first minute and then spent over 15 minutes trying to tell this guy "NO" with no effect, the guy was persistent. I know about phone service "slamming" and didn't want to say anything that would allow this guy to change my service. This guy seriously got my blood pressure UP. I later contacted AT&T and told them about the incident and the CSR said my account wasn't changed and that he'd block the number, but declined when I offered to give him the offending number, (936)559-2200. I was told it would take 2 to 4 weeks for the block to be in effect. If in another month I'm still getting daily calls from that number, I'm going to lodge a complaint with the BBB and go from there. It's ridiculous to be harassed by someone that you're paying for service.

Also I've read all these complaint's and rebuttles and none of the proponents of these calls has explained why when their company calls and the person they call answers the caller isn't on the line. Why say it is so important to call someone if you aren't going to say anyhting when you call. the whole point of calling someone to talk is to talk not just sit on the other end of the line in silence. that is why people are mad. not just because they are being called.

Someone from this number calls early in the morning, LATE at night, weekdays and weekends, often waking me up, and there's either nobody on the line, or I hear them hang up on me.

Checked. Effective Teleservices is a subsidiary of L.M.Berry, which is a subsidiary of AT&T. Telemarketer was truthful in this. Also, L.M.Berry is a telephone directory company, and this is why they called. I think they would have hawked a directory listing. They called my business number, and DNC doesn't apply to me.

Phone spammer claimed he was compiling a list for AT&T. Started asking for personal details. I asked him who ETECH was and he got defensive. I asked him what he was selling and hung up on him in mid sentence.

Called this a.m., left no message. This is my pre-paid Cingular cell phone, and I pay by the minute. I do NOT want telemarketing phone calls, particularly if I have to pay for them.

NACOGDOCHES, TX @ 1-936-559-2200 is registered to ETECH, INC. But you can call them at 1-800-397-1083 and tell them to remove your name and number from their main list. They told me it takes up to 24-48 hours to update their list and remove you. They do sales for BELLSOUTH !!

The number belongs to Etech, Inc. They are just one of the companies that solicit for BELLSOUTH !! I told them the last time they called to remove me from their list and then I called their 1-800# and told them again that I am on the Nat.donotcall registry and remove me from thier calling lists. When these people call you, all you have to do is remain calm and ask them to place you on their DNC list. The National Registry does not include existing business relationships. If you really want to complain, call BellSouth and not the number thats calling you. They are only doing as instructed by BellSouth. I called the number back, and politely asked if i could be put on THEIR DNC list. If you yell and cuss like some inbred idiot, no one will help you. Called me several times, but only in the morning (which woke me up) and in the evening, during dinner. No sound, no voice. I've been on DNC since 2/10/06, and they still call!

Not Required: thank you for telling the general public to send me emails. When you do, please give us your phone number if you wish not to be called and it will be placed on Etech's DNC list. Etech is a small call center company located in East Texas and India. We provide services to large fortune 100 companies. We call nobody on our own, only those as instructed by our customers. By the way, we offer a livilihood to around 1500 people in areas of Texas and India that are very underutilized. If fact, we are a HUB certified firm in Texas. You can always call and ask for any of our fine receptionisits. They will cooperate fully with you to put your name on the DNC list. There is no reason to swear at them or threaten them, they will help you.
One more comment to think about ... We get paid when we make sales for our customers. Why would we want to call people who aren't interested in being called??????? Folks - give the employees of Etech and other legitimate call centers a break, we are no different than many of you in that we are trying to do the right thing in a world where the majority of people aren't. I finally answered the phone after getting called 10x/day for weeks. They told me they were Bell South and were calling me for a free upgrade on my DSL. The guy I spoke with was named "Steve Gordon" and when I asked for a return number he gave me BellSouth's DSL number. I spoke to a Bellsouth rep today and my Free upgrade is NOT FREE. These people are pests and they are LIARS. I am now dealing with Bell South's legal department. FRAUD!!!!!

ok, there are a lot of comments here and someone may have already said this. just got a call from them saying they were with at&t yellow pages wanting to confirm my address for my free listing. when i questioned "what yellow pages listing" they have no answer - they aren't provided with that information. i operate a home-based business, don't advertise, don't want to - yet they call me on my cell phone - as far as i know, at&t doesn't give free listings to cell phone users. they can't tell the business name. when i pressed her - she said i would have to call at&t - i asked for the number and she hung up on me. don't think at&t does business that way...

Ask yourself one question.....DO YOU HAVE BELLSOUTH SERVICE NOW? If the answer is YES, then you may as well get over the calls. They are a BS Affilliate. There for the DNC does not apply due to the fact that you have an existing relationship and they can call. Sorry, thats what BS District Manager said to me after about 25 calls in 2 months.

Said they were Bell South & talked about adding onto my DSL service. They had an accent & were hard to understand. So I just kept saying no to everything. I got frustrated with that & him trying to talk over what I was saying-so I kept repeating "I do NOT want any changes to my service" & finally they hung up on me.

ETECH INC called once again Friday afternoon and then again just now, when I was finally home to answer the phone. The rep called to confirm a phone meeting I scheduled with one of his clients for this coming Monday. So, for me, this was completely legit.

Granted, it would have been nice for someone to leave a voice mail but it's all good now.

This is harrasment. When I answer the call no one is on the other end, just a hang up and this has been going on for months. I should have the opportunity to tell the starving college student or former McDonalds employee that I don't want to receive any more calls. The wonderful tuition reimbursement organization you work for needs to fix this problem. I'm DNC registered and this continues day after day. My family doesn't need this and neither does many others as evidenced by the feedback.

Looks like I am one of the few located in the north that has received a call from ETECH INC and has posted on this page.

I've never been a BellSouth customer although one of my favorite golf courses on which the PGA Tour plays is the TPC at Sugarloaf, home of the BellSouth Classic.

Sharing this is just as irrelevant as anyone complaining about receiving a phone call. Please realize that there are better ways to spend your time.

As one that has worked in inbound and outbound call centers, please try to remember that we're all human beings. I acknowledge that there are scams out there of which to be concerned but it's just a phone call. Address it as you need and stop short of making it personal. In turn, you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation.

I've seen mothers become strippers and then lose all interest in their children b/c the drugs consume them - we have a hard world full of hard choices... weighing the options of telemarketing and drugs... They don't call you and, surprise, they don't know who you are if you just call them up and start hollering, demanding to be taken off the list and then refuse to give your number. Sorry, but see, here's how it works:
-You give your number to Megan.
-Megan submits a list of numbers to I.T.
-I.T. runs a "delete query" on the databse to remove your numbers from the dialer system
-your number is removed.

So...if you don't want the calls, don't start yelling at people that have nothing to do with calling you, and are there to HELP you. Stop acting like a 3 year old, give her your number and you WILL be taken off.

Ok, so I have read all the comments about this company. I do not work for this company but I have before and fyi when you call the number that shows on caller ID it is NOT the agent that called you you are getting the receptionist. The receptionsist acts just like any other receptionist who answers an office phone system. She does not call you at all, the only time she talks to you is when YOU call her. If so many of you have called and reported this company and they haven't been fined then don't you think that they are going by the rules and they do know the law. As we all know that if they were not abiding by the FEDERAL law then this company would be shut down. This company is located not just in Nacogdoches, TX but in serveral other towns and cities as well, not to mention its major customer is BellSouth.This company provides literally 700 plus jobs in this small East Texas town. They have a wonderful tuition reimbursement plan that reimburses their full time college students the money that they paid for tuition or books whichever amount is higher. So while you are calling back and cussing at the receptionist who is not responsible or while you are cussing at the agen that is calling you just remember that they are doing what they are told. They are trying to make a living. They do abide by the laws, the numbers that are given to them are the numbers that BellSouth gives them, how else could a company in Nacogdoches, TX get those numbers. I agree with the HA HA HA HA person. If you have an existing business relationship, they CAN legally call you whether you're on the federal DNC list or not. If you don't want them to, then you need to ask to be taken off the list. It's Bellsouth, this is a number that calls anyone elderly on the list so the person can inform you that they are adding onto your service. They neglect to tell you how much higher the bill will be. They will disregard the fact you are on the do-not-call list if you are on it, and the only way to stop it since they won't speak, is to call them back, and complain.

They call me and there is no answer

Glad I have Sunrocket! Ever since I switched my phone line to Sunrocket from Bellsouth, these guys call my number about six or seven times a day. However my phone never rings. I placed their number on my blocked call list using the online System for Sunrocket and their calls go directly to voice mail. They never leave a message, but I really don't care since I don't have to deal with them. My number is on the do not call list, but the DNC list doesn't apply to companies with whom you've had ties to in the past 12 months.

They have called my house 3 times a day for the past week and a half. I got pissed and called them back. I was put in touch with Meghan, the receptionist. She transferred me to a sales rep from BellSouth who never heard of ETECH. I bitched him out anyways. I called Meghan back, she transferred me to a sales rep from Embark who, again, never heard of ETECH. Again, I bitched this person out. I called Meghan, again. I asked her who ETECH is. She told me that they are an agent calling on behalf of some credit card company. I then bitched her out for the hell of it. She hung up on me. I called her back. She said she needed my number so that they would stop calling me. I gave it to her, and she said it will take 48 hours for the do not call request to take effect. I bitched her out. She hung up on me. Now, I will continue to call Meghan every few hours or so just to hear her voice. I think I'll stop yelling now.

Calls daily and never leaves message. I've added a block to my phone system for 936-559-2200. Now they will get any out-of-service message. It's great having a phone system from Phonnect.com that I can easily manage.

They started calling my cell phone number every 2 hours. I have about 7 calls today. They never leave a message, and I get charged by the minutes when I answer their calls during the day. I am not a Bellsouth customer, but my business phone company was recently purchased by someone else, but Bellsouth claimed to service my area. I started getting all sorts of mail soliciations in the past two weeks, and that was when these calls started to come in. All the mail solicitations that I have contacted stated that they got my information off of Bellsouth telemarketing list. This is outrageous, and something has to be done to punish Bellsouth. Although it may or may not be Bellsouth who are calling, it was Bellsouth who sold my information to everyone else. And I am not a Bellsouth customer. But even if they do service my area, it is still wrong. Congress needs to take action against them during the Fall Elections.

calls all the time!!! when i answer, it is dead air. i stayed on the line for like a minute & 1/2 & someone finally came on. told them to stop calling. never worked before, so don't feel like it will this time either. i am a bellsouth customer already, so i don't see why they keep calling!!!

nacogdoches,tx. no answer when called back. does anyone else seem to think that the number is CHECKING DNC numbers for residential use like I do? Kind of like sending out a massive spam email and recording the email addresses that send the "remove" reply back?

I've received multiple calls. Some are hangups. Three times I've gott a person, and three times I've told them I'm not interested and not to call back. They say they are calling for Bellsouth. We are not Bellsouth customers and we are on the national do not call list.

CALLS 4-5 TIMES A DAY, NEVER LEAVES MESSAGE

I have previously reported this Co. BUT today I talked to the Kenneth Parker, the sales rep,and then to John a supervisor. I was told I had to be on the 'Bell South' Do Not Call list to avoid calls. John said Bell South furnished Etech all the names and numbers of former customers for them to call and try to sell service and the only way to stop calls was the bellsouth do not call and he has now put me on their do not call.This is a real illegal sell scheme and I hope that FCC would act and close this operation down and with a fine high enought to get Bell South attention as remind other operators the 'Do Not Call'list means something for the people.

this call show up on my caller alert on the day of 10/10/06 at 1:15pm and i had this number on block but it show up on my alert on who were calling, so pls if you are a telemarket do not call here no more , i am not interesting in buying or switching to any other long distance carrier at all, I am satisfied with what i got now. so tell me who you are and my zip code is 40475.

I don't answer calls if I don't recognize the caller or if it's blocked. I just started getting calls from them a couple of weeks ago. They've called 4 or 5 days a week and at least three times a day~today they've called FIVE times...GRRRR...and never leave a message. Caller ID is "Effective Teles". We just moved from the West Coast to the Gulf Coast about 3 months ago and forgot to register my new number with the DNC.

Calls no-one answers. Not even a Bell South customer nor have I ever been one. Always Verizon or Sprint.

Multiple calls as with others no one there. I don't stay on the line for very long. This may be a computer to see when people are home so that human telemarketers can be more effective. I am also on the DNC so I get no follow up calls.

They've been calling every day for 3 months! Since I never answer, you'd think they'd stop. I'm also on DNC list - this is one of very few telemarketing calls that come through. Can't stand it!

I get this call daily 3 or 4 times for a few weeks now on my caller ID but don't answer it. I answerd the call today though and said "hello" twice...no response so I just left the line open. After about 30 seconds they hung up.I think I will set this number up on my call blocking feature.

Doesn't Bell South get it when we say tell them not to call anymore? Even after telling them we are on the DNC registry? Seems to be a blatant disregard of the law. Also, why would we want to trade with a company that doesn't seem to get it?

stupid telemarketers

Called this morning. 8.26.06. Calls often, at least several times per week. Simply says Nacogooches, Tx on the caller ID. I do not answer most of the time. When I do answer there is only silence or a hangup.

Receive calls on phone but do not answer. They never leave a message. Stumbled on this when trying to find out what this company does. We started the DNC list about a week ago so they don't have our info yet.

We just moved into our new residence and our phone number has been activated for about 10 says. In that time span, they have called four times. Whoever it is, never leaves a message. From reading the other posts here, I see they are related somehow to BellSouth (our phone carrier). I have reported them to Bell South and registered my new number on the DNC list. Also, caller ID simply says "Nacogdoches, TX".

Been seeing these calls many times a day, have a recorded message saying that their call is a telemarketing call and I want them to remove my number from their list.

Was finally able to get someone on the other end to speak after calling my house every 2 hours today. Said they were calling on behalf of BellSouth. Was told it would take 30 days to get me off their calling list. Informed him I was on the national Do Not Call List and had already reported them and I had better not receive another call.

This number calls my home every two hours. Asked them not to call, calls continued. I don't know how to make it stop. I am on the DNC list.

This caller continues to call my home. No one will say anything on the other end when I answer. They allow it to ring through to the answering machine and stay on long enough to leave a blank message.

Called wanted to sell me phone service, explained on DNC and do not accept these type of calls here. She rebuttaled, I told her again that we have 2 VOIP lines and dont want her calling back.
