The March of Dimes charity, which frequently describes its name on your caller ID as “MOD,” has been phoning frantically leading up to the Christmas holiday. The ten phone numbers I have seen from them, and blocked since 10/18/11, include 240-210-7121, 410-202-0116, 571-261-0034, 804-234-9034, 914-368-2551, 914-368-2553, 914-740-1892, 914-740-1895, 914-740-1896 and 914-740-1897.
I’d recommend that everyone who receives one of these calls block these numbers or, if you have no call blocking telephone equipment, that you simply not answer the phone.
How good a charity is the March of Dimes? The following description of “MOD” is from the current Wikipedia article:
The March of Dimes has been described as a bureaucracy that has taken on a life of its own through a classic example of a process called goal displacement. Faced with redundancy after Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine, it adopted a new mission, "fighting birth defects", which was recently changed to a vaguer goal of "breakthrough for babies", rather than disbanding.
Charity Navigator has given the organization a rating of one out of four stars based on its financial filings, meaning "Fails to meet industry standards and performs well below most charities in its Cause." It also notes that the president Jennifer Howse was paid $633,132 in 2010.

How much money could be left for those who really need some help after paying the March of Dimes president over $600,000 per year and absorbing the expense of the vicious phone call campaign they are putting on just now? Please make your donations locally to a legitimate charity that will spend most of it on those who are in dire need rather than on lining the pockets of the charity officers and other “administrative expenses.”
They call several times a day, starting between 8 and 9 am, even on weekends; if it is a legitimate charity, what are they thinking? who on Earth would want to support them???
Received 2 calls from them so far today. They call almost every day. I will never answer their calls.
The caller i.d. says either MOD or March of Dimes. Call back the phone number - it was an automated message when the phone picked up. Press 1 to "Learn More About the March of Dimes" and then press 3 to remove your phone number. You'll have to enter your phone number but listen carefully when it's repeated back to you because it didn't get my phone number right several times. It said it will remove your phone number from the system within a few days. These guys have driven me nuts for the past couple months. They start calling shortly after 8 a.m. and keep calling numerous times throughout the day until almost 9 p.m. I have an unlisted number and am on the DoNotCall Registry - I shouldn't have to unplug my phone before bed to be able to sleep in on Saturday. I called every single number that said MOD/March of Dimes that was stored on my caller i.d. and entered my phone number so we'll see.
It is the March of Dimes, but there is no response when i finally got irritated enough to pick up. i've phoned the listed number for MOD and left a message to remove our number from their records....we'll see.
The main number for MofD is the following;
914-997-4488
Five calls in the last two days, every time I pick up the phone, say hello, no one is there redialed the number and "opted" out of any further calls. I am on a do not call list! I understand this is the March of Dimes,,from this day forward I will shun them like the plague..I NEVER GIVE DONATIONS OVER THE PHONE. AND I WILL NEVER WILL DONATE TO THE MARCH OF DIMES!
Second call today from these scam artists.
cannot get these people from calling at all hours of the day-relentess. reported to FCC and anyone else to cease immediately!
These idiots called again today and woke me up! They call several times per week and have called for several weeks. I will never give them a cent. I never do business with any telemarketer.
MOD March of Dimes
If you call back, press 1 for more information, then at the end of that recording, there is an option to opt out of further calls.
MOD March of Dimes
So I received a call from this number @ 9:00 AM this morning - thank goodness I was awake, if I had been woken up by someone not responding when I said hello, I would have been very unhappy. I am not sure why they are calling and not responding to HELLO!
I have received calls for several weeks from New Rochelle, NY, sometimes two or three times a week. I have been told that this is a scam and not the March of Dimes. When I confront the caller, he/she says that it is definitely not a scam. If it truly is the March of Dimes, its marketing people need to change their tactics and stop calling. I am on the No Call List so they should not be calling me. I asked the caller right before Christmas to remove my name from the list, but I received another call this afternoon and was very adamant about not every calling me again. I would like to know if this really is the March of Dimes.
Usually get at least one call from this number every day. Very annoying.
Get two or three calls a day from this number. I have requested that they stop their telephone attack twice already but I guess there is some kind of comprehension problem on their part. I will report to National Do Not Call list everytime they call from now on.
March of Dimes used to be a credible charity. Now they are spammers,to me.Go Away!
This is rediculous! They ring my phone 3-4 times a day -- morning, noon, and night. The only day they missed was Christmas! I would never give them a cent.
Calls seven days a week. Shows MOD on caller ID. Sometimes several times a day. Very annoying. If this is MOD they can look elsewhere for donations.
This number calls several times a day, 7 days a week, no message.....If it is March of Dimes, I will NEVER give them a penny.....Very annoying and intrusive on privacy
It's the March of Dimes. I gave once on their website when my niece lost her baby, but that doesn't mean I want calls day and night including Sunday. Call them back and press 1 to listen to their message. You can then press 3 and have your phone number removed from their list.
I've been getting these calls plus the one from March of Dimes, continuously. 3-4 times a day. Really
getting to be very annoying. Never any messages.
The March of Dimes autumn campaign continues, being split between InfoCision of Akron and Haines & Co. of North Canton, Ohio. Haines is better known as Americalist, less better known as Ameridial. These are so-called "commercial fundraisers" hired both by real and fraudulent charities to pelt us for days and weeks and pocket most of the proceeds as profit. See reports from last year on 9147401890 and 9147401894.
As a commercial entity, the call center is expected to honor its own no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and "the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."
They have been calling two or three times per week, for three weeks. Usually says MARCH OF DIMES on Caller ID, but with the last two calls, it said MOD. I don't intend to ever answer these.
REPEATED CALLS DAILY DURING DAY & NITE, SOMETIMES AFTER 9:OO
NEVER LEAVES A MESSAGE
I think this is March Of Dimes.
