They say they're calling for The March Of Dimes. I answered this morning, they asked for my wife - not at home - we'll call back and hangs up. Never gives me time to say, "DON'T CALL BACK!"

I find calls like this to be annoying I wish someone could do something to stop them.

If you pick up the phone before the recording starts and then press # or * rapidly until you hear beeping, it will temporarily screw up their computers, and they will stop calling.

We've received 8 calls from this number in the last 4 days. Always let it ring through. No message is ever left - they just hang up.

Call reportedly from the March of Dimes. On call back, the voice recording says 'thank you for calling the Donor Call Center. We tried to reach you on behalf of the March of Dimes.' Calls from charities are legal and are exempt from the National Do Not Call List.

I have been lucky to so far avoid these callers, however, there is a tactic that seems to be overlooked here, that is of complaining directly to Level 3 Communications LLC. I bet if their corporate office was being bombarded with spam calls from one of their own customers, they would quickly find a way to rein these jerks in, and it wouldn't take 30 days to do it either...If everyone called Level 3 and complained directly to them, perhaps they could do something to stop it.

I have had three calls today from this number and several similar numbers. Caller id just states the city the call is coming from. Since I don't know anybody in these cities, I have not answered.

Yes, a lot of irritating charities use that ruse, as though conning you into shaking a coin can on their behalf is not the same as a funds solicitation.

When I picked up, an actual person,not a computer, said he was calling for the March of Dimes, and was not asking for money, but for me to agree to address and mail 6 envelopes.

Got 2 phone calls from this number. My husband answered both times and nobody would talk to him. I dialed the number back and got a voicemail message - "Thank you for calling the Donor Center. We tried to reach you on behalf of the March of Dimes." I hung up. Looking for money.

For the umpteenth time, the DNC registry is for telemarketers, meaning sales. Charities, debt collectors, political speech, and surveyors are all exempt as they are not included in the FTC definition of "telemarketing". This was made known to you when you registered your numbers.

Commercial fundraisers, like the ones placing these calls, are handled differently. The FTC says: "... if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."

We get calls from this number daily. Never answer them. We are on the Do Not Call List.

I receive a call from this number every day. The caller ID displays UNKNOWN and the phone number. I'm on the Do Not Call List and will report this to that agency as well.

Calling 3 times a day starting at a few minutes after 8 AM, then mid-afternoon, then evening. No one on the line. I called the number back and pressed the "1" to remove. I will not wait 30 days for the calls to stop. If they continue, I will hunt these people down.

It was dead when I picked up. Eventually the sound of a "boiler room" of telemarketers came on and so I hung up.

I did as someone mentioned and called back and followed the prompts requesting to be removed from their list. Same as others report I have now gotten twice the number of calls, first one at 8am, 3pm and 5pm daily ... I cannot wait for the 30 days to be over. I am getting out my good whistle and hope to ring their ears off with it.

The March of Dimes autumn campaign rolls on, being split between InfoCision of Akron and Haines & Co. of North Canton, Ohio. Haines is better known as Americalist, less better known as Ameridial. These are so-called "commercial fundraisers" hired both by real and fraudulent charities to pelt us for days and weeks and pocket most of the proceeds as profit. In the 2009 campaign we received 58 calls between 17 Sep and 15 Dec from several rotating numbers. In early October it was twice a day. Often the predictive dialer would quit after three rings, and that same behavior has repeated this year.

This New York Call is the most repetitive and obnoxious of any of the charities and politicians that continuously ring without a message. Morning, afternoon, night calls listed on caller ID without a message and expectations that a person would answer an indentified caller in these days of fraud and scams. Whatever group is being represented should be avoided now and forever. And the thought that it takes 30 days or more to remove a phone number from a call list when it takes only a few seconds in a single day is ridiculous.

Called to thank me for United Way contribution last year. Wanted me to send out 19 letters in January to save babies.

Calls from this number twice daily for a couple of weeks now. No message left on voicemail. Always stops ringing just before voicemail picks up.

I called these folks back and got the recording that " Kaybee" mentioned. Since I left the message asking them to remove me, I get two calls a day from them, one between 8am-8:30am and one in the evening 8PM-8:30pm.
Very annoying. Hopefully, they'll take me off their list soon.

Receiving calls from this and other unknown callers (and other numbers) constantly for a week. I don't answer when I don't know or recognize the number or the caller. They need to STOP CALLING ME! I am calling as directed below to stop the calls, and the March of Dimes will NEVER get another penney from me ever! I have also reported them to the do not call registry.

Couldn't really understand caller due to terrible connection (I think she was calling on a cell phone), except that she said she was a Paid Caller for March of Dimes.

This number is for the March of Dimes. If you call the phone number back, you will listen to an automated message. If you then press the number 1, you will be put on their "Do Not Call List". You shouldn't receive any more calls after that.

I called the number today and received a recording, saying it was Donor Care, calling on behalf of the March of Dimes. 6-15-2010

Whoever this person is calls me twice a day. It's been going on for months. They wake me up every morning 7 days a week, so it's some sort of computerized dialing. There is no one on the other end when I answer the phone. Caller ID only shows their phone number. If I don't answer the phone, they do not leave a message. There has to be some way to get rid of this nuisance.

"Unavailable shows up on my caller ID" I answer and no one answers back. So I hung up.
Thought of doing a *67 callback, where my ID does not show up. However, 1)Why waste the time and 2) Some scams have you call back and next thing you know you have a huge phone bill. (3 No idea who this is, so just ignoring it.

I received the same thing. No one responded when I answered, but the caller ID showed that it was from New York and displayed the same number.

Whow is it? That call just about everyday..I young sounding lady calls, and asks for me. I tell her she has the wrong number. Sounds like they are attempting to sell Time Shares or Royal Palm Vacations Scams, or something. It anyone finds out, let us know.

I've been getting two calls a day from this number, one in the morning and one in the evening, at almost exactly the same time every day. I went to marchofdimes.com, filled out the complaint form and within a few hours received the following reply:

This is an incredibly persistent caller / callers phoning to solicit volunteers for the March of Dimes neighbor to neighbor drive. When I requested that the calls stop, and they did not, I reported the problem to the March of Dimes national headquarters, marchofdimes.com

Starts calling every morning at 8:00 - have asked them to stop, but they haven't. Now I answer and
immediately click off - they don't seem to get the hint that I'm tired of them calling.

The calls will not stop. The calls used to be once in a while now they are everyday. The calls start at 8 am and are as late as 9 pm. I wish I could not make them stop.

I just called this number back to be removed from their list. All you have to do is call this number, wait until it asks you if you want to be removed from their list, then hit number 1. It says it takes up to 30 days to be removed. Thanks for the info T.

My phone company will only allow me to block a couple of phone numbers. So I got the free PhoneTray program at phonetray.com and now whenever my computer is on it can block the calls for me. I turn off my computer when I'm gone, so it won't work then. But who cares? I'm not home. If they want to leave a message on the voicemail they are welcome to do so. But when I'm here I turn on the computer and it blocks any telephone number I tell it to. I even have it blocking bogus phone numbers -- the ones that start with 0 or 1 in the area code. It's free and it works great. I wish everyone respected the DO NOT CALL list, but crooks won't and politicians don't have to. This takes care of the problem once and for all.

Came across as WH PLAINS NY on caller ID. Called the number and recording said March of Dimes. Option #1 to remove your number from their call list, which I did 3 times just to be sure. LOL... Perhaps they'll get the message. I thought being on the "Do Not Call" national registry took care of this crap, or is it that "Charities" are exempt from this. Pure BS. As a younger more angry youth, myself and my friends would find out these numbers we requested to not call us anymore, and we'd spend a boring, rainy afternoon clogging their phone numbers by calling nonstop for 2 or 3 hours and just wasting their time. We would always request they remove our number at the end of the call. Sometimes we'd call and act like telemarketers on purpose. Turn about is fair play. Then again, my phone allows me to block unlimited numbers from any area code including the toll free codes. This solves the problem. For those who can't do this, it is a pain in the ass to be bothered by stuff like this. Good luck to all.

Received 2nd call today, and 5th over the last 3 days from this number. Caller does not identify themselves via Caller ID or by leaving a message. No one should be able to call a number continuously without IDing themselves. Notifying FTC & States Attorney general regarding these types of calls. Please consider doing the same.

I picked it up yesterday, mistaking the number, a pause then a women said March of Dimes, and I said I'm busy and hung up .. it rang this morning at 8am .. I have blocked it.
My wife does send them money because they keep sending return mail stickers.

I bet these folks make money off you when you call to be "taken" off of their list seeing this is a toll call.I'm going to call the phone company to try to have them blocked. I wouldn't waste your money calling them, whoever they are,they probably won't remove from the list anyway. If everyone keeps calling back them look at all the money that is wasted.Probably hundreds of thousands over the course of a year. If they don't get any funds off these return calls then the phone companys sure do. I'll let you all know if the phone company will block these calls.

received call from this number, I picked up (saw the area code and thought is was a friend for that area) I said hello twice - no response, I then waited for someone to respond - nothing - then a disconnect. If this is the March of Dimes I will definatedly not be donating to them.

They call 3-4 times each day. Called back and got recording: "press 1" to be placed on do-not call lis" but they never confirmed my calling number. Tried calling them using *67 to mask my number and got the same recording. BS! It's time to go to the March Of Dimes website and let them know that this repeated telephone harassment = 0.00 donations. BTW I don't believe in that 30 days to make the don't call list. If I gave them a donation they would process it immediately; therefore they should be able to add my number to their do-not-call list within 24 hours.

I have been inundated with calls from this # for over a year, I have done the "press 1" routine, I have called the March of Dimes directly @ 800-996-2724 at least 5 times and the calls just keep coming. As others have posted, this is nothing but pure harassment. Does not do any good to contact the FTC (trust me I have tried) as MOD is a charity and they will not do anything, so much for citizens privacy rights. If these calls where not bad enough, I now have the MOD calling me from 914-380-7168 including a call at 8 AM this morning!

Minn, this number is a solicitation from the March of Dimes. I dialed it back from a different phone.

I get calls from this # 2 or 3 times a day....I answered the 1st call and have not and will not answer again.....they have gone into voice mail but never leave a message. What I don't understand is, if they are calling for a donation, why doesn't anyone speak after you answer? Why is it dead silence? Something is just not right here.... to everybody on this list that have called back and pressed "1",check your bank balances and phone records daily. I agree with Strategy.....and, if it is the MOD they would want to fix this problem immediately to stop bad publicity. I think we are all screwed!

Recieved call from 914-290-6339 on 11/6/09 at 9:00 AM. When I answered the line was disconnected. Googled the number and see that many people have received calls from the above number.

Called at 10:07 PM. We are on a DO NOT CALL LIST as out number is used as an emergency hotline for public safety personnel.

Received with 'Unknown Caller' and I never answer. I respond only to charities via the mail. I think most people understand that these are professional companies representing scores of charities. A telemarketer sitting, staring at a monitor while the computer makes the calls.

From this site I found out it was the March of Dimes who was harassing me multiple times a day. YES, it is HARASSMENT when you pick up every freakin' phone call and get nothing but dead air. Tonight I kept holding on and finally someone asked for me by name (I never even spoke hello -- just picked up and sat there) and after being asked for by name I said "remove me from you list and this house will never give another donation to the March of Dimes" -- harassment is not a way to receive money from me. There are plenty of other NOBLE charities who BEHAVE in a noble fashion rather than HARASSING past donators. Dude was shocked (probably since they keep blocking their name and I knew who they were) but said "okay." We'll see if they start up at 8 am tomorrow like they've been doing for weeks now. And people wonder why charitable giving is down?!? 'Cause certain charities behave like jerks, that's why!

I do not believe this is from the March of Dimes at all. I think if you go ahead and push #1 (which the message tells you to do), you are giving them access to your phone line or something weird like that. I don't know--I just know that I have heard you should NEVER push a number on your phone in situations like this. Just don't answer. Don't let curiousity get the best of you. If they don't leave a message then it was nothing important. March of Dimes is a legitimate company. If they were calling, you can bet they would speak if they got someone to answer. Besides, when I do get calls from them--it clearly says March of Dimes on my caller ID.

This is a DONAR CALL center calling for the MARCH OF DIMES. The synthetic Operator (If you call the number back) will state why they're calling and then give you the option of pressing one (1) to be added to their "DO NOT CALL" list-which of course takes up to 30 days.

just received a call from this number - called ID picked it up as out of area - i didn't pick it up, but the message machine came on, no one on the other end for a few seconds before hanging up.

This number is a donor call list for the March of Times. Our number is listed with the Do Not Call Registry but they keep calling! I called it and after a recorded message they indicate that by pressing "1" they will add you number to the do not call list. Worth a try!

Try this...Start pressing random buttons on your keypad. It will screw with the system that is calling you. i get these on Saturday's/ Reverse lookup says disconnected call.

Caller ID just read "New York Call" with nothing but silence. This is annoying. When I called the number back it was the March of Dimes saying they were sorry they missed us and would try again. Then, when prompted, I asked to be put on their "do not call" list.

The real scam is being foisted on us by the phone company, not the charities. I pay extra money to the phone company every month for "call blocking." This means if the caller does not identify themselves, the call does not come through. So why does the phone company allow calls from "Out of Area" and "Unknown Name" to come through? THIS is the real scam.

I used to collect for the March of Dimes until they changed my collection area from my middle class neighbors to the welfare housing a block or so away. When I didn't get any contributions from the welfare housing, MoD wanted me to donate the full amount of their "goal" for my collection area. No Way !!! I haven't volunteered for them since and haven't given them a penny either.

Both charities and political parties are exempt from the "do not call" rule ... maybe it's time to get that changed to where do not call really means "no calls!"

Why do we put our number on the DNC list only to find out that we still keep getting these harrassment calls?? I am sick of it. The calls come late at night, at mealtime - it never ends.

Just received this call at 8:25 PM Arizona time which means its 11:25 PM in NY. Answered but no one was there. Finally after about 45 seconds someone came on the line and said "Hello?" At that point I said into the phone "F&*$%@ A$$H*&@" and I hung. Dont these people ever sleep?

Got a call no one answered me when i said hello. Waited and again said hello could hear a tv in the background so i asked if they were having fun. They hung up.

So what is the point in calling and hanging up when the call is answered? Whether or not this is the March of Dimes, I don't want someone playing games with me when I answer the phone. I report every unsolicited call to the do not call list. I don't know if it helps, but at least I get it off my chest.

I, too, have received many of these calls. If I don't recognize a number, I don't answer. My curiosity got the better of me and I called it back. I also googled it and found this site. Upon calling the number, I pressed *1* to have my name removed from the list. I use to do what they requested in the past, that is, to mail out envelopes to my neighbors. Out of doing it for 3 years and only getting 1 envelope back, I decided not to ever do it again and just mail them a donation. I hope they quit calling!!!

Vikki, try calling the March of Dimes directly at 1-800-996-2724. I was getting calls 7 days a week including calls before 8 AM. I called that # and was advised that my # would be removed from their calling list. It worked for several months however I started getting the calls again today!

As far as I'm concerned this is harassment. I want to know how to stop these calls. With any calls like this - when we have answered we've asked them to please remove our names - not a problem - only they don't stop. We are even getting them at 9:00 at night.

just talked to a March of Dimes supervisor who assured me calls would stop at my number. I heard that 3 weeks ago. I am also on a do not call registry nationwide.

I know some people at March of Dimes. I have reported a lot of your issues and sent up several e-mails. I don't know if it will do anything but I sure hope so.

I didn't recognize the # but I have family in that area code so I answered. After saying "Hello" several times they never answered & hung up. I called back the # that was on my caller id they said "Donor Center" for the March of Dimes and we will call you back. If you wish not to be called back press 1 to be removed from caller list. This is a 1st time this ever happened to me from them. After reading comments from other people I believe they pre-recorded the message from March of Dimes to make it a scam so people won't donate to these poor kids. What a world we live in.

Sometimes when I get annoying calls such as this, I answer, but do not talk. I just put the phone next to my radio and walk away. That has worked with other callers, so will try it with this one when they call again.

I get at least 2 and maybe 3 calls a day from these folks. If I don't recognize a number on my caller ID, I listen to my answering machine. They can call me as often as they want. I don't really mind, because I know that we will never chat. I get my passive-aggressive rocks off on them.

I get these calls from a couple of places that are charity-related. The relentlessness of the follow up calls makes one rethink charitable giving. Charities may have turned this over to "professional" fund raisers of the telemarketer variety. I can't believe the results are worth paying for - and I assume it's a percentage.

What makes all you people so sure that it is the March of Dimes? because they "say" so on their answering machine? Please....I can say that I'm Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan on my answering machine...would you believe that as well?

Frequent calls from this number. I never answer and they never leave a message. When I returned a call to this number I got a recorded message claiming that this was the March of Dimes.

A friend received a blank call the other day. Her Caller ID showed (914) 290-6339. She called back and got a woman she couldn't understand. A day later a man called from that number saying, "I'm interested in babies", an odd thing to say. My friend asked him not to call again. After googling the phone number and viewing posts on this an similar sites, I wondered if this is a scam, and not officially the March of Dimes. According to these sites, annoyance calls from this number have been going on for almost a year.

Followed advice of previous commentators. Pressed "1" to be removed from their do nt call list. Responded their mail solication earlier in the year with a donation. If they don't make good on their promise, I may consider not donating to them in the future.

I also followed the advice of "T" and called back and got the message that it is the March of Dimes call center. I stayed on the reocrding until they asked if I wanted to be put on their "do not call" list by pressing 1. I did that so hopefully no more calls after 30 days!!!!

I want to say thank you to 'T' who left a simple comment below. I called back and remained on the line until given the option "press 1 to be placed on the do not call list". I'm hopeful that it will actually stop the calls.

We have not gotten them calling in a while so now starting again. Guess because my grandmother dealt with them and more a good while ago they start calling us as things with my grandmother are now directed to us

If you have dealt in some fashion with these people and others been told the DO Not Call list can't do anything against that.

I get an average of two calls from this number a day. No messages and am tired of it. Someone make them quit.

Calling my number every day. I do not answer calls that are out of my area code unless I know who it is.

Listened to the message and pressed "1" to go on the non-contact list. Called again today and I actually got a human. Told them to stop calling and got the usual "sorry for the inconvenience". Called the MOD in NY and told the receptionist that I put up a banner in front of my house saying DON'T GIVE TO THE MARCH OF DIMES, THEY WILL HARRASS YOU". Actually got a call back from someone saying they would not call again. We'll see.... They will never get another dime from me.

Getting sick of this call coming early in the morning while grandkids are still sleeping, plus calls throughout the day as well. Caller ID just says "New York Call," and they never leave a message. I finally started answering it to stop the ringing but get no response after saying "hello," so I hang up. Their persistence is really getting on my nerves!!!

Answered this call, because they have been calling everyday. They said that they were from the March of Dimes, wanting me to send 8 letters to my neighbors asking for donations. I told them no, because I did this before and got no response from anyone, and asked them to remove my number from their list.

I get calls on weekend mornings from this number.

We do not answer our answering machine if the party that is calling does not say anything.We try to block those calls but they keep popping back.I am also on the "no call " list ,does not seem to make much difference.

I answered on a phone without caller ID and a lady asked for Miss incorrect pronunciation of my last name. I said she was not avaliable and looked up the number in the call log where it said West Harrison NY. As I have a ooma phone I blocked the number and they can never call me again.

They've called at least once a day for the last 4 days. I haven't been home, but there is nothing but static on my voicemail.

I am so very tired of this phone number. Never has a 'name' on caller ID & never leaves a message if my answering machine kicks on... sometimes it only rings 2 or 3 times & the answering machine doesn't have time to kick on. It is a telemarketing firm calling on behalf of the March of Dimes. You can press 1 and be placed on the DO NOT CALL LIST. 30 days to process. I think I'll hold my breath.

If folks need us they need a name on the caller ID and if they get the answering machine or our son they need to leave a message. We will not answer unknown numbers that we can not identify. How can we stop these calls? I feel like we pay for unknown callers to bug us.

This phone number calls me several times a day. It is from March of Dimes. I have asked them numerous times to stop calling.

I have received this call numerous times lately. They say my name on the message expeting that if they know my name I will answer them. It shows Not available. Perhaps I will do as W Rowen did and call the numer and push 1 and have the number removed from the list.

These people call several times a day and I refuse to answer this number. They do not have the courtesy to leave a message or identify themselves on my caller ID. I have asked them in the past to put me on their no-call list but they continue to harass me. I do not and never will respond to solicitations for charities over the phone.

Just got a call from these jerks. They say they are from the March of Dimes, but when I asked to be removed, he hung up on me. Calling the number says they are "Donor Center" and you can hit a key to be removed from their list.

I'm calling the March Of Dimes to complain. After all, I don't know who these people are and if they are really with the MOD or not. Anytime you get a call you don't want, complain if you can. It's the only chance we have to slow or stop this constant abuse. The lawmakers can't or won't protect us and neither will the phone companies. I hate them... :-)

This number calls quite often and leaves no message and calls early in the morning too, I don't usually answer numbers I don't recognize.

I was told that they were calling from the March of Dimes and wanted me to go door-to-door in my neighborhood soliciting funds.

They continue to call at all hours of the day and evening. Caller ID reports this number as Out of area. We now have the ability to block them as do any other customer of Verizon. Call your phone company and ask to have the number blocked.
