It's the Capitol One Collection Department. They leave the following message, "Hi this Linda, we have some opportunities that may be available to you at Capitol One. Please call me back today at 1-800-955-6600 to discuss them. Thank you."

They have multiple numbers from various area codes. I think their goal is that you'll recognize and area code thinking it's someone you might know and that you'll take the call. Very sophisticated, the message is polite. However 5 to 10 calls a day is incessant! I know I owe them money and if I had it would pay them.

JPB: While I'd agree Bobo sounded like another "Pay Youse Bills" broadstroke painter, he might have helped his case by citing the source of his claim, employee or not. Crap One has never been trustworthy from where I sit, but if the call is from a first party collector, generally made before the 180-day chargeoff, the FDCPA will not apply.

Yo, Bobo! This isn't a place to vent your spleen about who you consider deadbeats...and therefor, your post is worthless SAPM. If it is a scam, and it likely is, we are outing them. If it isn't a scam, they are in violation of Federal Law for not following collection guidelines. So, piss off!

Payback's a bitch:

I got tired of "Linda" calling all the time so I did a little research and found a Capital One phone number located in Richmond that's answered by a person. I believe it's a call center. ( 804-967-1000 )

Next I went to Capitol One's site, logged into my account and changed my cell phone contact number to 804-967-1000. Since the system they're using is automated, I added the same number to home, work and alternate. Now the automated system calls the call center using all 4 numbers. Given that when I was called they would sometimes call several times a day. I figure that call center is getting 8 calls + or - when the system fires up.

And that ladies and gents is how you Rick Roll Capital One and waste they're time and money. :-)

Yes it is Capital One. And yes it is legitimate. No it's not a scam and no it's not a "Special Offer".

Still amazes me how many people are there out there that really try to get out of paying their bills.

It is a collections call. Pay your damn bills and quit trying to deflect who these people really are by claiming a scam.

STOP saying otherwise-this is a legitimate website too, that is also trying to provide a good service and your lies and misuse of the site doesn't help those of us who really use it.

Please, folks.... this is a scam!! And they're targeting older folks who just might "fall" for their act. It's NOT CapitalOne... When they called me today, they not only asked for my 16-digit credit card number, but when I didn't give it to them, they asked for my Social Security Number. Folks.... BEWARE.... and remember that credit card companies ALL have 800 numbers. Plese take note..... this is NOT legitimate!! HANG UP ON THEM!!! Don't give them ANY information!!

Same story. Account is paid and they still constantly call. This happens to people a lot it seems. Should be something you can do to stop it. waste cell phone minutes if you arent on a unlimited plan.

Got fed up with these blokes. So I created a CVF card file for all currently known CapitalOne number assignments. The VCF file adds 35+ each w Home, Fax, Mobile and Business as incremental names for CapitalOne. Assigns to 'Ignore' group for silent ring or 'special' ringback tone. Import using BitPim.

Shared at 4shared.com. Exporting either single or bulk vCard entries from WhoCalled.US would be a nice feature addition

This is one of 10 numbers that Capital One have called me from. It started around July 21st and went on until August 1st. Then nothing and it started up again on August 17th. Same numbers, same stupid message from "Linda" calling to tell me about some "special opportunities" - always the same annoying recorded message asking me to call back a special 800 number (800-955-6600). At least 2-4 calls every day starting as early as 8:30 am and going right up until 8:40 pm at night. They even called on a SUNDAY!!! THREE calls on a SUNDAY - 10:07 a.m., 1:09 pm and 6:29 p.m. I have been keeping a log of all the calls because I am getting fed up and ready to report them. This is now bordering on harassment!

Probably a collections agency for a relative who does not live with me

SEVERAL annoying calls about payment that isn't due for 10 days! This comes from other numbers, too, most notably, 309-827-5401. Where does Capital get off?? Are the Vikings asking for a raise or something?

April 17th, 2009 annoyedone

This call from 909-391-1768 comes in two to three times a day although I have explained to the collection department that the person they are requesting is unknown to me. Check your clients people!!

Probably Capital One, yeah... I've received several "Capital One has a special offer for you!" recorded calls from the LA area lately.
