Many of the Sears debt accounts were already uncollectable when Citi Group bought them a few years back. Sears had been shopping around its distressed credit division for maybe eighteen months beforehand. Be very sure what Citi claims against you is accurate before you tell them anything.

As a collector and not a sales firm, Citi is not going to honor the DNC registry. As I believe it would be a first party collector, FDCPA won't apply either, but some states have their own laws for restricting contact and bad behavior in such cases.

2010-11-28 02:03:18 UTCMacBoy

This is CitiCard - Calling on SEARS account/cards -
SEARS is going broke, now that K-Mart owns them - They
are DESPERATE for money, and have to resort to this in order to stay afloat.

As long as you make a minimum payment, they can't touch you.

Put them on your DO NOT CALL list .....
If they keep up, go to your local SEARS or K-MART store & file a written
complaint at their Customer Service Desk....
Caller: CitiCard/SEARS
Call Type: Debt Collector

Automated. Calls several times a day. Does not seem to actually be Citigroup/bank.

2009-11-28 20:39:04 UTCsteve

NOT CITIGROUP! ASKED ME FOR MY PASSWORD. NEVER GIVE YOUR PASSWORD OVER THE PHONE.

2009-08-25 15:56:32 UTCCarm

If you get this call, call the customer service # on the back of your credit card. You will be directed to the fraud account. I called and there was fraud on my account and they are sending me a new card overnight. The fraud was from Pro Flowers and Overstock.com.

2009-08-19 18:11:20 UTCDreamstalker

No message left, cell phone only rang for approximately 1 second (by the time I heard the ringer the call had been aborted, as if for a wrong number). If it was a legit call I would think they'd leave a message.

2009-01-28 15:27:03 UTCSGIFL

No Caller id no message- to my cell

2008-10-06 13:42:53 UTCEm

They've been calling on weekends, weekdays, starting as early as 8 am. Never a message. But if it's Citi again, they've pulled this "fraud alert" nonsense on us in the past. They'd refer to some routine charge at a place we normally shop - like a bookstore or whatever, showing concern that it may be "unusual activity"on our card. When we assured them that it was indeed a legitimate charge, they immediately launched into a sales pitch for some other service. Sneaky.

2008-07-04 00:52:51 UTCMom

They called saying that they were citicard.

2008-03-19 23:49:23 UTCAmber

We have several accounts with Citigroup - Citibank, Citicards, Citifinancial... I received a call and when I answered, the recording repeated 'please hold for an important call' about 5 times, then I was disconnected. I called the number on my caller ID back, and the greeting was 'Thank you for calling citigroup' Then I was prompted for my account number. I put the number in for our main credit card account, but the system responded that the account number was not recognized. I was transferred to an agent, and asked for a SSN but I hung up at that time, because it was odd that they did not recognize the account number.

I called the 800 number on the back of my credit card and told them I received a suspicious call. They verified that the number (904) 954-1091 does belong to a legit Citi department - the bank card department. They could not find any apparent reason that they would be calling for our credit card accounts (one of them was just only opened yesterday, the other is in good standing). They told me to call 1-800-950-5114 for customer service and they would assist me.

I followed through, and determined that there is no reason I should be receiving a call from Citi. They really need to get their act together - CitiFinancial, CitiCards, CitiBank... one hand is oblivious of the other.

Anyways, the number is legit, and it is Citi[something].

2008-02-27 22:03:14 UTCKathy Elliott

When they call they ask for my husband. I say he is not available they ask for accounting dept., I told them to call his office. The man just says ok and hangs up. A little later call again. I answer but they hang up.

When not here they also leave a message that there has been some sort of account activity and they need to verify what is being charged. BUT get this....when I call back to be sure and give them my Account Number. If there was a problem with my account they would KNOW the number!!!!!!!!!!

2007-12-26 17:47:00 UTCAlisha

Valid call from Citibank. They call up to 10 times per day. Please file a report with the FTC, as this type of repeated calling is prohibited by law- EVEN IF your debt it valid.

2007-12-24 14:50:17 UTCdon

called and left message to call them at 800-7357952, said it was concerning a business matter. i have no credit cards at all and have not tried to call them back. the only thing that comes up on my cell phone caller id is call from line 1, so it appears that they are trying to block their number from showing up on caller id.

2007-12-04 16:12:16 UTCdani

this number called , claimed to be from credit card security company. citigroup.

2007-10-15 17:44:45 UTCAlisha

this is citibank. Probably a credit card call.

2007-10-05 15:09:54 UTCJustin

It is CitiBank Fraud Protection. Just Call the # on your card and they are just verifying recent activity. Happens if you purchase an item out of state. In my case, I shop in SC but live in NC.

2007-09-24 23:20:55 UTCBen

missed a call to my cell phone at 6p EDT. no message.

2007-09-14 20:39:16 UTCNick

THIS IS CITI BANK'S Number, ive gotten MANY calls from them about late credit card payments (next year's new year's resolution I think). So don't be all 1984 on them, and just give them the info they need, cause most likely, either your bill is overdue, or there were some questionable purchases on your credit card.

2007-09-11 16:11:21 UTCBUY AMERICAN

I just called them back. They are in India. It's a call center for Citibank whatever. They work for Homedepot, Sears, Zales, etc. They wanted my S.S.# Not a chance in hell. They had no info. to give me on my phone number or why they were calling. I don't like doing business with a company that I cannot drive to and talk to a real person. God Bless The U.S.

2007-09-07 16:11:35 UTCBryan

It's 12:10 PM on a Friday and I have gotten 3 phone calls from this number already today. Finally the third time around they leave a voicemail. Has anyone looked at the legal issues with this? There are laws against bill collectors harassing the customer. My issue was that somehow my payment didn't get to them. I don't think it's necessary to call the customer repeatedly like they do. "A computer makes the call" is not a good excuse from this company. Who wants to sue?

2007-09-06 14:39:19 UTCIndrit

first time, and they left no message

2007-08-29 01:04:06 UTCmaliha

Yes i also get about 10 calls from them a day. Its starts in the morning until midnight. I have picked up a few time and nothing on the other side. Please have them stop.

2007-08-23 17:52:07 UTCTERRY

VALID CALL FROM CITI FRAUD

2007-08-23 17:49:53 UTCTERRY

IT IS VALID FROM CITI FRAUD DEPT

2007-08-10 22:55:27 UTCWW

Phone callback said "Citicards". I answered and they had "hung up." I called them back and when the polite voice said "May I have your account number," I gave it. She then asked for the password, which I also gave. She then said that there is no record or any reason in the system why a call was needed to me. Now I am frightened. Trying to call them back and cannot get through.

2007-08-01 23:50:29 UTCMarc

caller identified himself as from citigroup and said that he was inquiring about some possbile fraudalent charges. he left a number but instead I called the number on my credit card who confirmed that they the call was legitimate and that they had detected fraudalent activity on my card.

2007-07-12 17:01:10 UTCAl

This is Citibank or cards associated with them. The automated call does not tell that or any information, But I ignored the message and called a couple of my cards and citibank confirmed they made the call. when I complained about their message not not specifying who is it from, they said it was supposed to and they would look into fixing that.

2007-06-07 13:18:52 UTCDavid

Caller left a message with my wife for me to call 800-388-2200 regarding "personal business." I called back, and they said they were CitiCard and could they have my credit card number and mother's maiden name. I responded that I would not give that information - could they prove to ME that they were citicard? He understood my problem and asked me to call the phone number on the back of my credit card, which I did. Turns out I had an overdue payment. Also - the answering system on both numbers sounded identical, so it sounds like this was a legitimate call. But - they are being irresponsible in initiating a call to me and asking for this kind of information over the phone, just as an identity thief might do.

Bottom line - if someone calls claiming to be from your credit card company or bank, call them back at the number on the back of your card.

2007-05-24 21:33:37 UTCAndrew

Got two calls today, no message left. I have a Citicard but I am paid up.

2007-05-14 15:31:46 UTCSandi

I don't have a Citicard anymore - paid off two years ago - what gives.

2007-05-13 16:40:24 UTCRobin

This is incredibly frightening.... seeing as how I *have* a Citicard... and I have a past due balance. However, going by the rest of their crappy customer service I figured that they wouldn't call to tell me my acct was late. By the way, this number does NOT google as a CitiCard number. Do NOT give your account number to ANY number except the customer service on the back of your card!!

2007-05-01 22:16:56 UTCALison

I just got a call from them today.

2007-04-30 17:16:17 UTCJW

The number is from citibank. no doubt. It asked me to call 8009505114 which is on the back of my credit card. So I called. nothing serious. just verify some purchases, though a little bit annoying.

2007-04-28 00:56:57 UTCMike

They've called me multiple times from this and another number. The problem is, I've already talked to a manager about my payment, and even though things were cleared up, I'm still getting calls.

2007-02-19 13:11:49 UTCColorado

i've been getting calls on my cell phone (which is not listed on any accounts or contact info anywhere) for the past couple weeks. they come from both 904-954-1091 and 1095. any real business would leave a msg. i doubt it is legit, and i have no accounts with citibank (or any related company). they're getting blocked today.

2007-02-15 14:16:52 UTCSheri

This is definitely Citigroup. No worries. I had a message from their fraud protection place. Totally legit...

2007-02-06 04:29:16 UTCTS

No message.. I unplugged the phone from the callID screener when I seen the call coming in. Have not been called back.

2007-01-31 07:42:02 UTCBob

Caller repeatedly asked if I was . When I asked who was calling, he asked again, with an intimidating tone. This cycle repeated twice after which I hung up. Don't worry about hanging up on this caller. They cannot be insulted! I called back an they answered as "Citicorp". The person answering claimed in was not a sales call, therefore it was no violation of the "no-call" list.

2007-01-29 09:13:41 UTCHarry

Citi fraud alert -- called to confirm suspicious charges (2 internet charges I placed with non-US firms).

2007-01-25 12:12:07 UTCEd

My bank card number was recently stolen, but supposedly the number was cancelled and no other identifying information was lost. I'm starting to question that now. I also received calls from 904-954-1095. I called them back and heard the same recording as everyone else.

2007-01-23 18:49:27 UTCcrs

same story as everyone else, they say their citibank collections; I do owe them some money (very little), but they are relentless with their calling at odd hours all the time...

2007-01-20 12:55:15 UTCdancer

interesting that i start getting calls from this number out of the blue. calls start outrageously early. sometimes as early as 6am. and they don't stop until way late at night....around midnight...even later! ONCE a message was left...but it wasn't in english and it didn't sound like someone actually talking into the phone....just random background noise. other than that messages are NEVER left. calls come in back to back for about 5 minutes straight. i'm NOT going to answer. i don't know who it is. and i don't appreciate the inconsideration of these people...citigroup, citicards, whoever it may be....i don't have an account with them.

2007-01-17 22:04:29 UTCanna

2 calls in the last week. A female voice leaves a message that says it's from Citibank calling about recent activity on my card. She leaves an 800 number to call. I checked that it was a proper number for citibank by comparing it to the one on the back of the card then I call the 800 number and they tell me that no one has called from there. Is there such a thing as phishing your phone number?

2007-01-06 10:31:43 UTCtb

these people a relentless. I've sent several letters requesting that they stop harassing me. Still I get 10+ calls a day. They rarely leave a message and when they do, they try to act like they know me from high school or something.

2007-01-06 02:04:28 UTCHawaii

Today received same call as others, on cell phone which is not listed on my account. Called number back, no recorded message, only live voice of a young girl who asked me why I was calling. Asked for first 5 digits of my SSN (yeah, right) and my birthdate. Can't print here what my response to that question was. Ironically, I also received a call from the real CitiCards the day before, but on my home phone. This does not sound legitimate.

2006-12-29 10:43:26 UTCjon

Just called the number back and its Citi Group. We must fight back. maybe program a computer to keep calling them and tie up the lines. Cause thats what they do to us. Let the fight against the telemarketers begin!

2006-12-26 12:02:16 UTCGreg

Just got 2 calls from them on 12/26. Didn't answer the number since I didn't recognize it. Found the number here.

2006-12-23 11:00:35 UTCtb

here we go again.. more hangup calls from citibank. they call so much that the battery in my phone goes dead and I miss important calls. its saturday 9:00am! do these people sleep?

2006-12-22 17:11:32 UTCTB

Citibank has been calling me 5+ times a day - all hours. Since I do not have anything to say they want to hear, I'm not going to answer EVER! If you want advise regarding credit cards mine is "don't get one."

2006-12-22 14:02:44 UTCHarold

Same as everyone else, calls at non-business times, etc..I decided to call them, a deep voice comes on right away telling me the call may be monitored and then someone comes on and says "Thank you for calling Citicard can I have your account number?" I said no and asked why wouldn't a message be left for me. I was told "the computer" was doing the calling - nice. I told her I didn't have a Citibank credit card and she told me it could be a Home Depot card (not that one either) or even a gas card. Other credit card companies leave voice mail messages, not sure why they're going about it like this, sure does tick me off when my phone rings and I see that 904 areas code.

2006-12-22 11:38:55 UTCJohn

I received a call about 10am this morning. It rang twice. When I answered no one was there. I have not called the number.

I am getting the same calls from 904-954-1095 and 1091. No message, but these people call multiple times per day and I don't have any late card payments. Maybe a scam??

2006-12-17 20:50:10 UTCStephanie

They called around 8:30 p.m. CST on a Sunday night. I did not answer the call. We are on the do-not-call list.

2006-12-15 21:48:59 UTCMiguel

I get the same about 10+ calls a day 904-954-1091 and 904-954-1095. anyone know how to enter there # somewhere so they can be called several times a day?

2006-12-14 04:28:26 UTCJarrett

I have gotten about 10 calls today, in about 20 minute segments each,

Caller ID says CITIGROUP
Very interesting, i'm blocking this number.

2006-12-06 20:52:09 UTCKaty

I just called the number back and first a recording came on "your call may be monitered" and then a girl answered saying "Citi cards can I get your account number please"

I have a citi card and I can promise you they don't answer the phone that fast and why in the world would they call my CELL phone!

I also looked up all of citi's phone numbers and to no surprise this isn't one.

I think we should prank them back!

2006-12-05 22:26:38 UTCVictim

Somewhere on-line, my credit card number and my name address and phone was lifted. This guy woh called was testing the waters to investigate the fraud. He never identified himself as a credit card representative, just acting as a person making a sales call. The next day, the card company contacted me and alerted me to a fraud alert as far back as 19 days ago.

2006-12-05 00:23:00 UTCSHC

They called on both phone lines at the same time, from 2 different phone numbers (this one and 904-954-1095), and left automated messages to call 800-339-3724. So, I did (hey, it's their phone bill), and sat on hold for about 20 minutes. Apparently they handle credit card accounting for Key Bank, Citi Bank, and Quick Books. I told them we didn't have anything late, and without even asking who I was, they promised to call back in a week if they didn't receive payment. Whatever ...

2006-12-02 15:25:05 UTCJ.S.

Number just showed up on caller ID. Did not answer the call.

2006-11-28 16:20:32 UTCAnnie

They started calling me a few times yesterday. This is citigroup. I had a closed account with them several years back that had no issues with it. they looked it up and didn't find any unusual activity. Can't tell if this is a scam but I googled this number and it did come up as one of their numbers. Odd, I complained again today.

2006-11-25 09:37:43 UTCMike

Showed up on caller id of my cell phone. Returned call and was immediately asked for my account number by Citicards. Don't think so!

2006-11-19 13:33:43 UTCHM

CITI group. I just called them back and verified legitimacy of the calls. Wanted to take care of outstanding balance that was delayed due to bank error...I complained about the number of the calls received and the odd hours. He put a note in my file and said that the number of calls should be reduced because of the balance being current...let's all cross our fingers.

2006-11-18 18:21:39 UTCJack

This call is from Citigroup, who recently acquired AT&T credit card services.

2006-11-15 09:53:18 UTCEmily

Answered phone and no one spoke. I let it sit for 20 seconds then hung up and went in search of the number. Same number as these people. Person can't be that smart for not blocking the number if it is a scam. I do have a credit card from Citibank though. Wouldn't they say something though???

2006-11-14 11:55:46 UTCS.G.

I received a recorded call today saying that one of our Citi Bank accounts had a problem. They gave a toll free number to call. Once I called it, they asked for my 16 digit account number. When I told them that I didn't have an account, he asked for my social security number. Sounds like a scam to me.

2006-11-12 21:59:12 UTCstacy

They call quite often and dont leave a message. I work nights and they are always waking me up during the day. Cant turn the phone off incase one of the kids schools call.

I didn't take the call as I didn't recognize the number. No message was left, but I'm pretty sure it's Citigroup calling as I haven't made my credit card payment yet. :) Guess I ought to do that, huh?

I get a call sometimes 5 times or more aday. Once they even called me at midnight!! NOW that's pushing it!!! Next, time I'm going to answer and they're not going to like the response I give them. I don't know who this is but would really like for them to stop calling everyday, upto 5 times a day and they don't leave a message. I even get a call from the same # but the last digit is a 5.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
