Tax/Social Security SCAM CALL: Calls Coming from a Disconnected # 904-342-6602 - spokane.net

Spokane, WA - 01/016/08 - The BBB would like to report that our service area is experiencing aggressive fraud calls reportedly from the Social Security Department informing people that since they had paid their taxes in a timely manner, they were being awarded $500 per month.

They have your name and address, and call whenever they wish. The caller runs you through a bunch of personal and sensitive questions, including asking for your bank routing number.

Various false names are given by the scammers: Donnell Med, Leon, etc. The people attempting to defraud you with these calls have strong foreign accents. They do not give you any information about who they are outside of their false pitch that they are the SS Office. If you have Caller ID, it captures the number: 904-342-6602 (theoretically would be from Florida, but can't be called back - for the number will tell you that that number is "not in service").

When you ask for more information on whom they are, they promptly hang up. When the BBB searched the Internet for that number, there is a list of postings to 800notes.com warning about this very same scam. The postings also warn that this very same number is attempting to force people into believing that they ordered online prescriptions from them, a

jus calls,and says nothing,annoying considering burns up cell minutes

Indian accent person claimed to be Officer James from the Social Security Administration and that my son was elected to receive a $500.00 tax rebate from the IRS.
What kind of SCAM is this????

This Indian person just called me 10 minutes ago. He kept asking for my social security number and bank account info. I asked him who he was and all he told me was that he works for the government, Social Security Association or something like that, and he said I could receive like $300 in my account each month. I just told him I didn't have my information on me..It was weird. I'm glad I looked up the number online and I know now what it really is. I'm going to call my cell phone company to have it blocked.

They have been calling for a whole week, i always miss the calls but i won't answer even if i didn't miss them. People, just don't pick up. I will be asking my cell company to block this number if possible. Texas here. I also get 900 number calls but never answer and i heard they charge for answering the calls. so be aware.

I have received a call from this number but it had the prefix +449043426602 It was an Indian woman who had already called me 2 times this week from different numbers. She said her name was Angela Wilson and her her employee ID was RD128.. She was calling me because I was randomly selected out of over 20 million taxpayers with no criminal record. She advised I would be receiving $500 a month for 6 month. She just needed to verify my information. She gave me an address and asked if this was still correct I told her yes even though it was an old address, she then asked who I banked with once again I gave her a real bank name but not one I bank at, when she asked me for the account number I told her no and they could mail it to me, she stated they do not do that anymore as there have been to many "lost checks" I told her I was not giving her that information over the phone because it sounds funny and I will need to check it out. She stated that they will only be depositing money and not taking any out because that is against the law and they need my consent to take money out, I told her that is true but people do it all the time. I asked her for a number to call back she said she will give it to me along with a legal disclaimer AFTER I gave her my account number I told her I will have to check more into this but in the mean time if they want to mail me the money I accept cash, money order, cashiers check...she got upset and hung up.. I may be young but I am not stupid enough to fall for that SH**...I was also called on my TMOBILE cell phone....

Call from SSA issuing $500/month direct deposit for paying taxes on time with no criminal record

An Indian sounding man called, said I was to receive $500 checks from the US Treasury for the next six months as a reward for paying my taxes on time. All I had to do was give him my bank deposit information. They had a special verification number to give to the bank but would give me any other information until I gave them the account info. Hung up on them. What a scam!!!!

I love this site. Found it about a year ago when Dish Network kept calling. Anyway, been getting these calls everyday, 2-3 times, for a week now. They just called and was home, so thought I'd play a bit. First, I answered the phone, but didnt say anything. Dead air for about 25 seconds, then someone jumps on. (might as well make them pay for the call)
THEM: Hello? (Indian accent as others note) ME: Hello? THEM: Hello Patrick, this is Walter. I have your medication ready... ME: (interrupting 'Walter') Walter is not here. THEM: No, I am Walter ME: Who? THEM: Walter ME: Sorry, Walter is not here right now
He then hung up on me, i was kind of bummed, as I had more to say. So now will be interesting to see if the calls stop. If not, no biggie, ill just keep messin' with em. Not else much we can do it appears. Might as well have a little fun :)

this number called me 8 times today. says from ssa and wants bank account #. after 7th time they called i gave them an old bank name, they said "that bank doesnt exist" then got calls from out of country #. SCAM!!!!

I just got a call from a womand with an Indian accent. she said she was with SSA wanting to get my account # because i was choosen to receive a $500 drafted to my acct for the next six months because i pay my taxes on time. I asked her for her # so i could call back to verify who she was and she would not give it to me. she told me if i did not feel comfortable in giving her this information i could provide it on the automated service. the system asked me for my name and my account #. I gave my name but when if asked me for my acct # the same woman broke in on the call and asked me to please provide my acct #. but she said if i did feel comfortable to speak with the automated service. now tell me why would i do this if you still can hear everything i'm saying. I also did a reverse look up and the # orginated in jasonville Fl. I could not find anything on them with the BBB in Florida. I going to contact Tmobile and homeland security. Oh and by the way she called on my cell phone and I have Tmobile servcie. PLEASE BEWARE

They call on my cell phone twice everyday and three times on Sat. I tried to reason with them,
yelling at them, screaming at them, all for not. It's been going on for about a month now.
Called Verizon ( my cell phone service ) to see if they could block but no luck. Please, Please
someone go postal on these people.

Tried To Tell me that te Social Security Office was giving "Selected people from this state" $500 per month for the next 6 months and asked for my bank and account number. Had all my other info I.E. Name/Address/Phone.

This foreign sounding man keeps calling, asking for Nancy. He has been told repeatedly that there is no Nancy, but he keeps calling back. The last time, he asked my daughter for her name and address, etc. Thank God she was smart enough not to give it to him! Scary!

I just wanted to let all of you know that this company has a real number that I got out of them. The number is 954-904-5610. I have put it in my grizzly dialer and it is now calling them 10 times a minute for the next 30 days. I have basically shut down their system for the net thirty days.

Please let me know if the calls stop for the next 30 days. If they do then I will just set them up to call them forever. If you can get more number from them and let me know I will set them into the system.

I get at least three to five calls a day on my cellphone from these idiots. When I asked them today what gov't agency handles tax information, the dummy responded with SSA. Then he had the nerve to tell me that it was four in the morning and that he didn't have time for the arguement. They got so frustrated with me, he hung up the phone. I asked him for a number to call back the SSAO and verify his claim, he became very defensive. Once I explained to him that I verify social security information all the time for my employees, he shut up and hung up. There needs to be a PSA set in place to notify the public of this new type of fraud and to never verify any "personal" information over the phone. My number is on the do not call list, but somehow they still got it and called. I am afraid that someone or some entity will contact the "right" person who won't question them and get taken advantage of. I've heard of it happening before and I know it will happen again. I called the number back that came up on my caller ID, the message was that that number is no longer in service. By doing the reverse number lookup, it originated in Jacksonville, FL. However I believe the call may have originated overseas.

Someone sounding African has been calling from this number saying that my wife will be getting $500 for social security every month for 6 months. I have talked to him as if I was my wife and told him on 2 occassions I did not believe a word and hung up. He is still calling!!!!! Who is this jerk???

They never leave a message. When I finally called back I get a message that says the number is not in service. This is the first time I've had one of these on my cell phone ... only started the past couple of weeks. Annoying, but good to know I'm not the only one getting called.

AND TOLD ME TO CALL THE G BI, THE FBI AND TO DO WHAT EVER I "DAMN WANTED". THEN THE ACCOUNT NUMBER THAT THEY WANTED, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD IT AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO GARNISH MY ACCOUNT FOR $250.00 FOR REFUSING TO GIVE THEM MY ACCT# ON BE HALF OF A FAMILY MEMBER THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO GET 500.00 DOLLAR FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS. THESE PEOPLE ARE VERY DANGEROUS CALLING OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION LIKE THEY HAVE IT ALL BE VERY CARE ANY ONE THAT HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THIS FRAUD OPERATION.

I have received calls from this number serveral times over the past week and 3 times today. When I told them that they had the wrong number and to stop calling me they called me a Bitch and hung up on me.

these people are annoying! they keep calling me atleast three times a day! the only type of message they leave it sounds just like background noise with a bunch of people talking. i try calling back and they are out of service. i went to the donotcalllist.gov or something like that and put my number in and they still call me! im sick of it!

I work for the 800 number at Social Security and this is NOT a real program. I had a lady call and tell me that they said they were from SSA and would credit her 500.00. The knew a lot of info about her already except her bank info. Please take n/a to protect yourselves from these people. This is a scam. Gov agencies don't work like this.

If you catch them at it and say this is a scam they suddenly become a radio station..Take any name they give you and write it down..All the information we get will help to nail these guys hard!!!

I got a call today from these Indians twice today. They told me that I was a good law abiding citizen and that my state wants to give me 500 dollars for being on a survey that says I don't have a criminal record and that I pay my taxes. So I told them to send me a check and they told me no they need my bank account number. So I told them I'm glad the state is doing something so nice for it's citizens but I am not going to accept this offer. They tried to be smooth, the first guy I talked to I told him that I don't want 500 dollars and then he said let me get my supervisor, then this second Indian came on the phone and was talking in some heavy accent. There was a lot of noise in the background, sounded like his family members having lunch or something. They must be poor and living on dirt to try and pull off this scam. I wonder where they got my information, probably dug through my garbage. I wonder how I can track this number...

Callerid indicated "Florida Call". We're getting calls from them about 3-4 times a week. Once my wife answered and they asked to speak with her husband. When she asked who was calling (about the 3rd time) they said it was the online pharmacy calling about my prescription order. Of course, I never deal online for prescriptions and told her to hang up. But they still call. I guess it's time to report them to the NC Attorney General.

They were trying to get me to order an appetite suppressant over the phone. The man told me his name was "Jimmy". When I told him I would check out their special online he was not happy and hung up.

I have a tmobile account and tmobile doesn't have call blocking. So I put their number on the mute ring-tone. It's been about 12 months of daily calls w/ no messages. The one time I answered they wanted me to re-order medication I had never ordered. Definitely an Indian accent. Connection was poor as well

They started calling my home number three days aga and have been calling twice a day. My husband answered the call yesterday and they wouldn't say anything! Today when they called the answering machine was coming on and I could hear a man saying Hello and then when the beep came on for them to record a message all he said was Hello and hung up. If they call, why don't they say anything?

I get the same online pharmacy thing. Unfortunately India is exempt from our national do not call act. Naturally, since India is not a part of our great nation. So it won't do any good to request them to remove your number because they are not bound by American law. All you can do is block their number if your plan lets you do that.

These turkeys have been calling for over two years.
Often more than twice a day. They call themselves "on line pharmacy". I have reported this to the FCC (they don't care) and the FTC (they don't do anything).

they call me nonstop! saying they are calling to refill my prescription! what prescription you ask? i have no f'ing clue i keep telling them to remove me and they dont of course!

I keep getting calls from this number and someone with an indian answer asks for Dennise, first time I thought it was missdailed and explained to them that they got the wrong number but they kept calling and calling sometimes couple times a day. They are very rude and they don't stop. What can we do to stop these rude people?

Indian telemarketer has called our unlisted number (also registered on the national "do not call" list) several times over the last 5 months - sometimes up to 3 times a day. They hang up on me, insisting on speaking only to my husband. We have BOTH asked to be removed from their list - that is, the times we can get the words out before they hang up on us. They only identify themselves as "online pharmacy".

Someone from this number keeps calling me and asking for Brian. I try to tell them that they have the wrong number and they hang up before I can ask them to take my number off their list. They call at least 3 to 4 times a month and are very rude everytime.
