Verified basic information about our home-based farm business. Identified themselves at the end of call as Experian.

The lady seemed nice but passsive aggressive. Claims she works for Experian and they are updating their records. She confirmed my Company's name and then read off my business address. Then she asked how many employees I had and if the address and phone number she called me on was commercial property or residential. I said, "if you are from Experian please provide a phone number so that I can call you back" knowing that I could go to these discussion boards and see "whats up" before calling her back. With a deep sigh and as if she's been through it a million times before; gave me the number in her Philipino accent to call her back. The number I called was answered by an auto attendant respresenting Experian with even more questions, so who knows? It probably was and is Experian but I am done..............Experian or whoever you are, thank you for wasting 10 minutes of my life when I only have a week to live from what my Wife keeps telling me anyway.

Want my real info? Then you have to pay me for it just like I have to pay you. Otherwise, you can keep the old info on file. As it is I receive far too many sales calls from business' that buy your lists.

The caller was female and friendly enough, and obviously accessing our business information from public records. The call came in shortly before 5:00 PM and she identified herself as being from Experian. We don't have caller ID yet. Seemed legit, but still a little strange.

Looking to "identify" if this was a business number - Number is ON DNC, but they still keep calling.

I got a call from them and while on the phone, my other line rang and it was them. I had them on both lines asking about my business. Wish I knew who to report them to! I don't need to have both my lines tied up with them.

Experian just called again, and again hung up when I answered. Isn't there something in the TCPA where they are in violation if they drop too many calls from an auto-dialer?

I am on the "DNC" list, and I do not owe anyone money, yet this number keeps calling, but never leaves a VM.

just got a call from experian. was asking about someone that doesn't even work here anymore. then asked if the phone number was correct (they called me), then asked to verify the address, then asked for the name of the person in charge, and then asked for the number of employees. he sounded like he didn't know what he was doing so i asked him what exactly does he want and he just said he was calling to verify information. what are these people doing?

experian is a credit reporting agency. They troll for information and are quite persistent about it. I guess so they can make a credit profile about your company. Tell them to mind their own business. They are no authority of anything.

The best way to handle calls like this is to mess with them. Say to them you have an ear infection and ask them to speak louder. Then louder. Then louder still. Then tell them that's too loud and to spaek a little lower. Then start over with not loud enough...could you speak a little louder?

Called for business info. Said he was with Experian. He was rattling off info in a mechanical sounding voice. Told him we don't give info out. You could tell he was reading from scripts.

File a complaint here EVERY TIME THEY CALL! I have been on the do not call list for two years and that never expires. They are NOT allowed to call me. I filed a complaint at this address

Won't leave message, but will keep calling back until they get you. They are Experion, who keeps data on businesses so they can sell the information and others can telemarket to you.

DON'T give them information as it will only make things worse. Also, they collect financial information, and things like, "Who is the owner? Who is the manager? What are your annual sales?" And so on.

I believe Experian uses this info in credit score calcs. The larger the company a person is employed by, the better credit they will receive, as the business is considered 'more stable'. They prob also track business growth, as I get this call once per year, every year.

Sadly, being self employed, they prob won't see much growth in my company ;)

I have received many calls from this number and it is annoying. I called and spoke with a women that was not very clear and she wanted to know the number that I was calling in reference to and when I gave her the number she then ask the nature of our business. When I told her she had reached a government agency, she then apologized and said she would remove our number from her call list. So if you are a government agency they are quick to remove your name. I am tired of the so called 800 numbers that can now call you because they are not selling anything. Huh!

They keep calling and hanging up on me after I say my (long) schpiel and it's really irritating!! ARGH!

I keep getting some dorky sounding guy who sounds like he's 13.

He gets the name of my business wrong. I had to tell him 3 times to remove me from his list before he finally got the message. Next time he calls, I'm going to hand the phone to my 13-yr-old and let him have fun with him.

Got a call 3:27pm June 20, 2008 on my cellphone. They were looking to "Confirm my business information". After reading the comments here I called back and asked them to remove my cellphone from their records. She agreed. It seemed to be a caucasian woman each time. Not sure if it will help or not.

BTW, I've had Vonage for 2-years now and just switched my MAC address the other day and I've started getting this and other strange calls ever since on both of my phones.

The best thing I ever did was give up AT&T and switch my telephone to VoIP. Experian has been harassing me for 2 weeks. Today I simply "blocked" their number. I use Via Talk as my VoIP provider and get 12 months of service for $150. I have complete control over who calls me and can route calls from anyone directly in to a message that is as tacky as I want to make it. Just what jerks like Experian ian deserve. She was polite. Asked logistic updated questions about our small business. Are they logit? Helpful? Is this a necessary call? Is all the information below of other callers correct?

Did not answer, did not leave msg. If it's Experian they left a msg last week saying that my business credit was in trouble. Funny, Dun and Bradstreet left the same msg two weeks ago.

They called my Cell phone at 0904. MY CELL PHONE. I am furious. If I ever see them call again, I'm going to go down to their main office and let them feel how annoying it is.

By the way, the caller gave her name as being Jen Mendoza. I hope that this isn't some company trying to conduct a scam. It's sad that things have gotten to the point that you have to question/almost scrutinize all un-initiated calls received that asks for information. I received a suspicious phone call today 2/5/08 at 8:50 am. A soft spoken/fast talking female with a strong accent called saying she's from Experian and "needs" to verify some information. She starts spewing out questions before I can respond. She acted very nervous and kept trying to end the call when I asked for her name, phone #, and what the actual questions were so I could have someone call her back. She said she wanted to verify some information and persisted to ask again:
1) Complete name of the business
2) Location of business
3) Number of employees
4) Person in charge
5) *I can't read my own notes on what the 5th question was* {sorry}
Her aggitated phone behaviour made me seriously doubt those were the only questions she had to ask. She gave the phone # (888)929-3282 - which I Googled and winded up here. In her haste to end the phone call, she never said what they intended to use this information for. My initial thought was it was for something FRAUDULANT. It doesn't hurt to be too careful these days.

Called my work line yesterday to try to "verify" business info - was all wrong of course. I transferred them to the company switchboard.

They called back again today and did not leave a message when I let it go to voicemail.

Called my business 10 times in the last 6 days I got home from vacation and went to the shop and missed all the calls and no messages from any of the calls!

I called the 888-929-3282 number (yes, it is Experian) and made them take the time to answer the phone, then just sat the phone by the TV while they kept asking me to speak up. They have to go by their script and have inquire about three times before they hang up.

Gave them a taste of what they are dishing out. I did this for about a half hour. Maybe if more people would do this, they would get the message.

Pretty much the same situation as Fed Up said: "Called at 9:41 am...Line open but heard nothing.", only they called about an hour later. I called them back and they told me they were calling to make sure the business information they have on my company is accurate. Funny thing is, I don't do business with Experian so they have no right to call me since I'm on the Do Not Call list (and they didn't identify themselves as a survey company). I told them NOT to call me again or I would file harrassment charges and also went to the Do Not Call site and filed a complaint. Whether this works or not, I don't know. We'll see.

It's from EXPERIAN and they just called to verify information already on file, for my company. They didn't ask anything that is not shown in the phone book.

I finally just called them and asked them to take me off their call list. They tried to get me to verify the information they have for me, but I said I'd really rather they just take me off their list. They did, and no calls since.

This company keeps calling regarding a home-based business my wife used to run, but is now defunct for over 5 years! They have been calling daily, and recently several times a day. The callers sound Indian-based, but mixed with a bit of electronic voice. Next time I'm asking for a supervisor!

My name is on the DNC list... yet I am still getting TONS of solicitor calls. They call all day long, how is it legal for people to sell my private information? Experian makes money off selling your info to companies. But they also help establish your business name.

Call them to add your name to the Do Not Sell List if you have been receiving solicitation calls like I have.

Got a call from this number at 4:16 PM today, they didn't leave a message. I see others here have complaints about them. I also went to donotcall.gov and submitted a complaint. The next best thing we can ALL do is get Call Intercept a feature by the phone company (such as Verizon) where I pay $5.00 a month to be able to add numbers that are not allowed to call my phone. It works!!! I have be able to add these junk phone callers to this and never hear from them again. Just though I would pass this along! (Great web site you go here too!)

A man said he was from Experian. They had some outdated information about my business. I simply said okay and did not correct them. They then wanted to know if any named Janie D. had ever worked for us. I said I couldn't remember everyone that had worked for us since 1965. He thanked me and hung up.

Called my work number today. Wanted to verify name of business, address, my name as a contact, and the number of employees. I gave them yes answers to business name, and business address, but refused to answer the other questions. No point.

Caller said it was a "dispute resolution center" and asked for the business name. I said it was a residence. Caller verified phone number and asked to confirm there was no business associated with the number. I said no. Caller apologized and hung up.

Got hangup call, *69'd the number, prompted me to enter my area code and phone number and pound sign before I could speak to rep., but every time I did that, I would get a disconnect. Did that three times, so called the number from my cellphone. Girl who took my call said they were Experian and when I asked if they were Experian the credit reporting agency, she said yes, but they were a separate division and asked to verify my business info, which I did because she didn't ask me anything that wasn't already publicly available anyway, didn't ask for social security number or gross sales or anything like that. I asked her to send me a copy of the business profile they had for my company and any other info about Experian Business Services and she said she would. We'll see. If they call again, I'll report them. I'm on the do not call list. Lot of good it does.

Finally went online and googled the number to see who the f**k keeps calling my cell and not leaving a mesage (I never answered it). That's how I found this great site though, so I guess that's the little silver lining. I urge everyone who's on the Do Not Call List to report them every time they call, and everyone who is not on that list to get on it, and start reporting these guys after you've been on it a month. The greed and intrusiveness of companies that want to profit from you in any way knows no bounds. Don't even get me started on AOL, which will not cancel your e-mail account when you tell them too, and will keep taking money out of your account. I took the precaution of blocking them from taking that automatic amount and they stole another amount and claimed someone "in my household" made a purchase (who--my cats? Certainly not me). After screaming repeatedly at someone in customer service in India for about 20 minutes and threatening repeatedly to report them to the Attorney General for violation of the COnsumer Protection Act (They ALREADY paid out big bucks when sued for doing just this) they finally refunded the money. If I went to your house and stole money from it and was caught in the act, I'd go to prison. Why don't our elected representatives do something about flagrant theft from consumers or harassment of consumers by corporations? Our time and money is just as valuable, and we vote too, you know. Take the time to report these cretins, because it seems that is the only way to stop this.

What if you give them nonsense information. 'We have 200,000 people working for this business, we've been in operation for 1500 years.' Will they go away then?

They could at least pay you for the info or send you chocolate and flowers for the bother.

File a federal DO NOT CALL complaint if your number is registered in the directory. If there are enough calls the federal government can demand $10K/call in fines.

Got a call from this number today ON MY CELLPHONE. This costs me money and time. There was a voicemail recorded from this call but when I called to retrieve the message, there was only the sound of loud background mumbling noises, as if the caller was in a large room with lots of other callers. The caller left no message.

Been getting alot of these" verification' calls from various numbers... one that I actually talked to had 17 YEAR OLD DATA.. so I said.. " If you can't find out any more current information on my company.. then you have no business calling me.. so STOP CALLING>

Today.. I just got the one from this 888-929-3282 and I just answered and said.. " STOP CALLING ME OK>> JUST STOP CALLING ME!" and hung up!

I hate this phishing calls. They always act like it is important to speak to me and if I am in a meeting they leave the number so I call and listen and get put on hold. I was very upset when I did speak to someone and I really don't think they will call me again.

They usually call on a tuesday, but now on a thursday? I think it should be mandatory that all toll free numbers list the actual caller or company name.

Repeat of all complaints/comments above. A real "pain" of a caller and waste of our valuable time, cell phone minutes and patience!!!

I too just got an unsolicited call on my cell phone from 888-929-3282. I wonder how they get a hold of my number to begin with? If I were you, if you see this number on your caller ID, just ignore it. Good luck and God bless.

gotten a call from them about once a week for a month. i don't answer because i don't pick up numbers i don't know. the thing that pisses me off is that it's my cell phone! and i never give that out. maybe sprint is selling me out.

Someone from this number called our business without identifying herself. She immediately started asking questions personal such as "is your business owned by the government", etc. I thought this was a bit invasive so I hung up.

Caller id had only the #, they did not leave a message.

They asked about one of my websites. They could have only gotten that number from whois, which I'm pretty sure is not allowed.

They want gross sales, ownership information, but they do not understand what is a public university, which is owned by the 17,789,864 people that live in the state of Florida.

I keep getting calls from them. I've set my CID to give me "Experion" for this number so I know not to answer it. Needless to say, I send a "Do-Not-Call" complaint each time. I have that down to a science. Sometimes I'm done before the four rings are done and my answering maching answers (and they hang up without leaving a message).

called my number multiple times - definitely a data mining operation. I gave them nothing and told them I didnt have time for them.

I find it odd that these calls are supposed to be from Experian and in your banner Experian is one of your advertisers.

I don't answer calls with #'s I don't recognize esp when the caller ID shows the name us "UNKNOWN"

Looked it up today and found it under Experian.

I used their contact form (careful not to fill in the street address, company name, city, zip) and told them to remove me from their calling lists.

I don't expect them to honor that request even if they're SUPPOSED to so I'm reporting it at DNC site, though I doubt that will help either.

Maybe enough complaints will prompt DNC to update policy on ANY unsolicited calls? A girl can dream!

I asked them what company it was, they said Experian, calling to "make sure their information about us was correct". I told them I would report their number and their call. The dude desperatley tried to stop me from hanging up.

The fact that I had to search to find that this was Experian hiding their identity makes me wonder about all of their business practices. Why hide and refuse to leave messages if they have a legitimate business purpose? They are just trying to waste the time that in small business needs to be spent making money.

This one calls my fax line all the time. They never leave a message. Super irritating.

The agent said that Experian was calling to verify information about my business (on my home phone number), and that the system only allows them 30 seconds before it disconnects and redials another number. I'm hoping I never hear from them again.

Called my cell phone at 6:47AM CST this morning. Then called again a few minutes ago at 2:49PM CST. I called the number back, got a recording that asked me to input my area code and number, then a girl named Casey answered. She could hear me just fine, then when I politely began to inquire as to why I was getting nonstop calls from this number, and some at 6 AM in the morning, she began to pretend that she couldn't hear me. I then informed her that I will be contacting the BBB and the FCC & FTC in regards to their illegal business practices by violating the the Federal Do Not Call List. All of a sudde, she could hear me just fine. Amazing. Driving to Cingular tomorrow morning and filing a formal complaint against them as well.

Received a call from a male who identified himself as Carlos from Experian on 1/03/07 at approximately 3:00pm PDT. He asked for 'Helen', but there has been no person here by that name
for many, many years. I told him that and asked to be removed from their database. He was polite and acknowledge my request. The next morning at 8:35am, I received two rings from that same telephone number, but did not answer.

We should get paid for answering these calls.

I like to get gross with them... if its a man that answers, I ask if he likes to take it up the a** and if he likes huge co**. If its a woman, I act like a complete pervert. I have memorized this number and do not answer in my normal voice. I realize most people don't like to do this, but so long as you dont threaten bodily harm, its freedom of speech AND they won't call back, at least for another 6 months. Works like a charm. I echo what Matthew said...these people called me on 12/13 at 10:44am. I just got Caller ID earlier this year and no longer answer numbers I don't recognize. Either it's a scam, a sales call, or socio-political groups wanting money.

Looks like they are busy. Not sure if they called the cell or home (cell is presently set to forward to home). I have a 1-person home-based business. I answered, she asked if this was [my business name]. Knowing this was just a call spammer, all I said was "take this number off your list" and hung up on her.

Received call from them today, 12/8/2006 1:20PM. I refuse to answer a call from a number I do not know. All too often it is a sales call.

I have investigated, and, according to my telco, these folks use an auto-dialler that calls thousands of numbers a second - but if the agents are all busy, the phone automatically hangs up when you answer it. This is illegal, technically, but no one will go after them, because it is a common practice. I just don't answer calls from this number.

I am a small business owner, she told me she was calling to verify my information. I told her I would not verify anything and asked her to put my number on their "do not call" list. She insisted on "verifying" my information and I just kept telling her no. The she told me they were "just a credit reporting agency." I'm not sure what that meant. I told her I was reporting her to the FTC for refusing to put me on their "do not call" list and she hung up on me.

They call about once a week. I have not answered but next time they get my Full Metal Jacket Soundboard treatment.

They called my cell phone two times till now, both in the morning. At the first time, I was driving, and I had to poll over to check who was calling. When I picked up, they just dropped off.

Caller id says Out-of-Area.
I did not pick up this call as is my policy for all caller ids with this moniker. If I pick it up by accident I question the caller about how I'm to know if they are who they say they are. I inform them of my policy to not conduct business with any call center operation or anonymous caller. When I hang up on them I feel empowered.

received a call from these guys at 4:19 pm today and had the pleasure of listening to someone shuffle stuff around with a loud background of people talking.

Same as everyone else here. Only, my number happens to be my cell phone (it was my land line previously). I am wondering if they got the # from old WhoIs records! I called them back and told them to remove my # from all their lists. I *hope* that keeps them from calling! Irritating. It is against terms of service to use WhoIs data (if they are), It's beyond me how many Credit Card companies and the like "steal" info from WhoIs! (BTW, I use Private Registration now).

These calls have continued for quite awhile, never anyone talking when I answered til today. They claimed to be experian... wanted information about a company no longer associated with my number and I asked them to remove me from list..... Bet they don't

Asked her why she was calling. "Business verification" was her excuse. She asked for gross sales, number of employees, and got nothing. I asked her why I would give information like that to a stranger who calls and doesn't have the decency to at least leave a message. Right over the top of her head, she kept up with "We are conducting surveys of businesses...." I had to interrupt her and tell her she could get that kind of info straight from the US Bureau of Labor websites, and not disturb small businesses privacy. "We don't use your personal info" is what she said. I agreed with her and hung up.

Called home phone and did not leave a message. I called back and they played dumb and said they have not been calling me. This is Experian. REPORT THEM EVERYTIME!!

Wanted to 'verify' business information, but they called my home, which is not listed for my business.

Same experience as everyone else - data mining by Experian. They either hand up or may have a live body asking questions.

This number called and I asked them questions to see what this was regarding they said its for a credit service company that sends out data to potential costumers, well I got pushy and said what customers? They wouldn't reply, well they answered as I mentioned before Its private information and I am only the business call office.

The phone rang and no one was there--we've had this number show up on caller ID before. How can we get them to stop calling?? It shows up as Square Is. The most recent call was tonight at 7:25 p.m. pacific time on October 14.

I am the owner of a business and have a private number but was caught off guard by an employee when this person called to 'verify' business information. They said they are not soliciting, and do not sell their information. I was very busy at the moment and gave her my name and number of employees! I'm normally a very cautious person so I feel angry that I got duped into giving any imformation at all. What is the purpose of this data collection?

Called at 12:10 PM. Wanted to verify company information (which they had wrong). Told them I would confirm nothing because I didn't beleive who he said he represents. He said OK and that I should call 888-929-3282 and talk with anyone there to confirm our info. They are data mining.

Calls many times each day, every day - when I answer, there's no one there.

I didn't answer because I was at lunch and not expecting a call from a toll-free number.

I was called at 1:22pm Pacific on Sep 21, 2006.

Called the number and told them to remove me from their call list because their calls were irresponsible. They would hang up before I could speak with someone, and they would not leave a message. Happened 4 times in one week. She seemed to be OK with it all, and apologized. Said the were "calibrating their system." Told them it was their system and the call pattern was that of harassment, and that I would report them to the phone company if they did it anymore.

Said they were from Experian. Claimed my Phone # was a business. Told them it was not. They proceeded to tell me they needed to verify my business info. I hung up.

Called at 8:13 am and I missed the call. Did not leave a message, at all.

Called and wanted to do some data mining. I didn't believe they were experian because the Caller ID said "Square IS NF", whatever that means. turns out that the number is on the page provided by "Business Phone". Oh well.

It is Experian, a data collection company. When they get me I just say I won't answer, and hang up. They want gross sales, ownership information and that kind of junk so they can sell it to companies who want to "market" to us -- which translates to WASTE OUR TIME!
