Bottom-feeding debt collector... Totally disregards FDCPA consumer laws... You can look them up on the FTC website and see that they were finded $240,000 for repeadily violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Violations include:

(A) Discussing details of the consumers' alleged debt with third parties, such as the consumers' parents, children, employers and co-workers;

(B) Communicating with consumers at all times or places that the company should have knew or known to be inconveinent, including at the consumers' place of employment;

(C) Using language the natural consequence of which is to harass, opress, or abuse;

(D) Falsly stating or implying that failure to pay the debt could result in arrest, imprisonment, or garnishment of wages; and

(E) Threating to take action - such as filling a collection suit against the consumer - when the company did not intend to take such action.

I have been receiving calls from the same Kelvin Turner. He said he was with United Recovery System. However, when I searched the number it shows up as HSBC. If in fact they are part of United Recovery System, URS was fined $240,000 and had a number of restrictions placed on them for violating the FTC FDCP act in April of 2002. They were to continue keeping records of complaints for the next four years. Some of the complaints were: abusive language, threatening arrest, harassing the comsumer even after it was requested that they no longer call. Contacting third parties ie: children, parents and/or other family members. It seems as though they have not changed their ways. Maybe somehow legal action should come about to help them see the error of their ways.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
